It has impressed me. I didn't get on with CM4 or 03-04 as many people knew but somehow I have now decided that FM2005 is better than CM01-02 (or thats the feeling I get from playing the demo for an hour)

So from me it gets a big thumbs up, although, I need to make a decent tactic, I lost 1-0 to Anderlecht with Liverpool in my first friendly

I agree with you, I never really got the feel for CM4/CM0304 like I did with CM0102.

But I like this game... I need to get a better tactic of course, I lost 6-1 to Arsenal as Chelsea :$.

It's great the only thingy is that the sound doesn't work but I think that's because it's a demo.

Yeah I have to agree, the way tactics work are completely different in this game. I have been performing very poorly recently with a 4-4-2 tactic that usually works quite well in CM0304. However my bad luck seems to be taking a turn for the best, just beat Portsmouth 3:0 :D :p

oh one negative thing: Maxim isn't in there :(

iv only played a bit, but im impressed so far. the layout is a bit wierd and takes getting used to. the offside rule is still crap though. a player on the left side of the pitch still gets called offside when its passed to a player on the right side, but i hope thats tweaked along with some stats. villa have £6 mil to spend, not £3 mil. and some of the other stats are dodgy too. barry plays left, centre mid and def. and some others iv noticed too. not too much to worry about though. im sure it will be sorted... the ball is much improved in the 2d game engine. as is some of the movement i think.... i have noticed players running away from the ball slightly again, if the comp wants you to play badly for a bit, but i spose that could be put down to a slip or something. i have seen that in real life, where a player doesnt run to the ball and stands off and the opposition gets it.....

overall, its good. it feels more polished than cm4 and 03/04 already and its only a beta demo.... roll on the finished article...

With regards to the sounds, someone on the official SI forums reported that you can copy the sounds from CM03/04 to the data/sounds folder on the FM2005 demo and it works fine. Wonder if the same is true of the skins, I know probably not but it is the same code after all.

Aye i agree with the whole tactics thing. Another thing i've noticed is more realistic transfer fee's. The asking price is pretty close to the value....like i bought robinho for 3.4 mil, tevez for 7 mil and van der vaart for 7 mil

We will be updating the sound effects for the full release and generally don't include them in Demos to help reduce the filesize of the download.

Much of what you speak about here has been fixed or is in the process of being addressed.

The final database (which controls items like budgets, player positions, etc) is no where near final and will naturally be updated for release.

With regards to the 2D Match Engine we have since improved offsides and resolved 'players running away from the ball' and will be continuing to improve its quality right the way up until Release.

I've never bought one of the CM games (I only tried the demo for the last one, and the new FM demo), but am definitely thinking about getting this one (assuming I can in Canada?).

The only problem is how addictive it is .. lol ..

I've been playing around with a few league 2 sides and i noticed that Lincoln City are grosely underated!

Hint hint SI, i think a few Lincoln players are weak in certain areas and you haven't got the attendances correct when taking into consideration last seasons average attendances.

Apart from that an excellent demo, couldn't bring myself to quit last night.

Its not the final data, thats probably why Lincoln City are underrated in the beta demo.

In real life Manchester United's Giuseppe Rossi is an amazing talent at 17 years old but in the beta demo he has alot of 1's for his stats. In the Gold demo, he will probably have Godly stats for a youngster.

Part of this could be data issues (i.e. we need to update the database that holds information about a clubs expected attendances), however we have also made some tweaks to attendances on the whole for many leagues so that they're more realistic.

Dont grab there name, it wont work instead grab thier postion you selected for them which is to the left of the name and drop that in there ok :)

i like the game overall. it reminds me too much of cm 4 though... i've had numerous counts of offsides when my defender is trying to pass to the midfielder, and shots have been over the crossbar constantly. it has good speed, kinda like 03/04 on my comp, but its pretty good overall. i think some minor fixes have to be done, but i like the game.

My only problems so far

Player fitness is horrible everyone has low fitness for somereason, Pires and Ljunberg cant last more than 1 half:|

Also my midfilders always shot over or to the side when its a easy chance

Other than these two the game is excellent, but is anyone else finding this game a little too easy?:confused: Or are Arsenal just overrated:crazyboy:

nice one.. i thought as much.. it is only beta after all... im really impressed. its a lot harder than the others, which is good. i won most friendlies against lowly opposition, but iv yet to win a prem game in 4 attempts so far.... lol

arsenal is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy overrated in my game. arsene is also the cockiest mother****er i've seen. before our game, they were undefeated, and he relesead a press statement saying we have no chance to win the title and we will get trounced by them. this is after i lost 4-2 to aston villa (im chelsea).

i won 2-0 and then released a statement saying he needs to stfu and his team aint goin nowhere (H)

also, i've come to a conclusion real madrid is close to unbeatable. ive destroyed both monaco and another team in my CL group with goal differences of 3-4 each game, but madrid have owned me. there is no way of getting through their defence, its unbeliavble. carlos is like a brick wall and nothing gets passed. and sweet jesus, they playe 4-3-3 and the midfield of zidane, beckham and figo is so overrated its not funny....

im on a sugar rush so im gonna go and try and beat them again...

i wonder if they'll bring out other quickstarts for the demo like they used to :confused:

LOL, one cool thing I've noticed is that as a manager, player's agents will approach you and ask you to look at videos of their client!! Quite cool!

managed to go on a good run of results since I lost my first match against Boro, trashed Palace 5-2 with a Cisse hattrick. (H)

It seems you need to be a bit more creative with your tactics i've been using a 4-2-2-2 and its got me some very good results.

Uh i dont have a Target place all i see are General, Version, and Compatability at the top and target are not in any of them:confused:

The Squad Selection code was still very much work in progress at the time we created the Beta Demo. We have improved it considerably since then and addressed most of the issues people are reporting in the Beta Demo.

The Screen History was work in progress at the time the Beta Demo was created and we have since fixed the problem with the squad screen not remembering the last item you sorted by. It now remembers all states and this applies to various other screens too (which was part of the Screen History code).

There are now appropriate icons to indicate when a player is injured or away on international duty (and these will take precedence over others in the squad screen). This allows you to see who is available and who isn't (and you can still use the Filter Dialog to hide 'Unavailable' players).

I was gonna say the same thing, about the main player selection screen.

Will the position dragging buttons be brough back? You know, like GK, DC, DC, DL, DR,.....etc on top of screen that you can just drag onto a player to make him play in that position?

And the tactic screen too... Can you make it easier to switch between the main tactic window and the individual instructions?

The position icons are now back in (so you can drag and drop the position onto a player).

With regards to the Individual Player Instructions in the Tactics screen, we have made several improvements here but what did you have in mind? You can select the arrow to the left of the players name or if you are viewing the Formation (with the pitch) you can double click on a player from there to view his Individual Instructions. All of this is in addition to using the 'View' menu to access these instructions too.

can we have traditional view and sorted by condition? cause i used to use that screen. i certainly not very like to use selection view. too many information just make me confuse, just my opinion. i just want traditional view back ;)

you know, maybe its just me or my strikers, but i have to bring this up.

ive played about 15 games by now, and the game is good overall, but i have begun to notice that 95% of the shots that don't score are either over the bar or so wide by the goal that they end up by the corner flags. this is the same problem i had in CM4 and it scares me. i would like to see a bigger disparity in shots. i don't care if the shot is fired at the goal and the goalie saves it, but if my shot is not on goal it is so wide or over the bar that it's ridicilous. in cm03/04 more shots were directed at or around the goalkeeper, so he had to move to make saves, which made it seem realistic. i thought it was just me, but i played arsenal and man u, and henry and ruud, rooney, were all shooting 10 feet from the goal. i play matches on extended so i get to see a good range of shots, close range and from far and its the same result, for me and other teams. maybe it's just happening to me.

I already stopped playing the demo, but I think it's great (Y)(Y) I'm just not interested if I cant work on something for more than a half year. Interface is difficult too btw:p 2D pitch definitely improved(Y) The team screen is annoying indeed btw:kader:

edit: will the new dutch league be implented (it starts in 2005/06)

is the old way of viewing the squad going to be available at all? i much prefer my squad to be in order of gk, df, md and st, then i can see who i have got in each position and make a selection based on that... its a bit confusing at the mo....

This screen is being tidied up, so it will be sorted another way be default, and will keep any changes you make to it. Because Eidos own the look, the traditional view can't come back.

Remember this is the beta the gold demo will sort out problems with alot of the screens.

I really hate the new player selection screen. I'll get used to it, but I miss having two columns of players, and selecting players is annoying, all these gay menus pop up :kader: I really hate the new interface with all the menus that pop up... I played the demo, probably wont play it again as i'm pretty hooked up on my Guarani game. Starter as Liverpool, beat Anderlecht 4-1 with my classic 4-1-3-2 formation. Didnt test the MC running to SC yet, hopefully they correct the AI bug on this one.

I love every part of it, except for the new interface, which is quite difficult to get used to. The match engine kicks ass, and i'm pleased to see that unlike in 03/04 the strikers actually win headers (i use the 03/04 default version, and on that one even defenders with 8 for heading beat my 15+ header strikers, except on corners).

Looks like the tactical part of the game is kinda harder, although i won the match 4-1 it was pretty even, 13 shots to 13. Cisse is a demon.(H)

The heading thing is wrong as its jumping which wins the header, heading is the quality of the header. If a player with 20 jumping and 1 heading went up against 5 jumping and 20 heading the 20 jumping would win everytime.

Theres a problem with too many shots and high scores but its been fixed. Good teams had too much difference against worse teams.

Just downloaded, would be perfect with a better interface, and less shots, same goals (i.e, shots have more chance of going in, as when my player is one on one, I don't feel the same buzz you get irl, because you know he'll miss)

Demo is great, but my tactics are crap. I lost 6-1 to Arsenal, and i drew my next 5 games.

But I am really impressed with the demo.

Someone please tell me that a traditional skin (underground or not) CAN be made... Maybe even with a taskbar on the SIDE?? :(

ive had the demo since wednesday and i am pretty bored of it but im really looking forward to the actual game and cant wait :)

the match engine is great i tend to play with pitch in the Right Side of the Split View, the actual layout is good to took me a bit of getting used to but i think its great now

of course lots has changed since the beta demo was made and more will be changed so im confidant the Football Manager 2005 will keep me entertianed when im not working :)

I got bored after 4 weeks playing (in the game 4 weeks). I cant play with this awfull player selection screen.

Well I changed the skin so that the menus will be on the right. (The other skin) IMO it's easier to navigate for a right handed lad. :crazyboy:
But it would be nice to be able to swtich to the traditional view for player selection.

i think its good that you can actually buy some players for their value............. in 0304 i had to bid two, three, sometimes up to ten times a players value to get anyone not on the transfer list........ but, at least in the demo, ive purchased sneijder, zlatan, mexes, vandervaart for approximately their value :o


btw, @ Neil, how will the Australian league be implemented? there is currently not national league, and either today or tomorrow our board will decide the clubs who will participate in the new league, and probably the structure/time of the league... which will kick off next season. i see that the old NSL clubs (namely Marconi) are now in the state league, and as SI have said that the Australian league will be playable, I assume that you will implement the new league? :confused:

i using man utd but when i have £189m transfer budget was after i played 6 seasons.

I have played the game and I think it is pretty good. However, there were a few problems:

1. In my game, I (Blackburn) scheduled a friendly against the U18s. It was my last friendly before the season. However, it wouldn't allow me to have more than 5 subs on the bench. I was able to use all 5, but I should have been able to have 12 men on the bench instead of 5.

2. I tried to sign DC Lamine Traore (sp?) from Anderlecht. He is 21 and has 30 caps (Burkina Faso) and we agreed to a fee of $1.4 million (US). However, a work permit was denied, and the appeal was denied as well. You would think 30 caps by the age of 21 would be enough for a work permit.

I've been playing with Tottenham, just cause I like Tottenham, and I think I've been doing alright. I think the scorelines are a bit high some games, and the menus were confusing at first, but I'm already getting used to them.

The one think I don't like is that there is not enough variety when it comes to bad comments towards the opposition, and that they are all coach related. I mean, what if I want to bash the team itself instead of teh coach. There's all these options to praise and suck the other coaches dicks, but theres not enough variety about talking trash, that's all I'm sayin'

Anywho, I probably shouldn't talk trash anyway, my last game was against Liverpool and I commented how I would enjoy a victory over them... well my players got all mad at me AND I lost to Liverpool 3 - 0, it was my first loss of the season, on the 5th week. Oh well.

That was in Cm03/04 too, it's because the rules of the u-18 league only allow you 5 subs I think. (not sure though)

IRL you can only use 6 subs in FIFA/UEFA(and probably all official federations) approved friendlies as off this year, so the use of 12 subs isn't reakistic anymore either.

Everytime i try to download the beta it says "File not Found"

It was only online for a week, so it's not up anymore. Not to worry, a gold demo shouldn't be too far away. 2 maybe 3 weeks is my estimate.

hope SI realize that there are two Reyes in the game, what at Arsenal and one at Sevilla :o :(

i already uninstalled the demo. play back cm03/04. now waiting for the gold demo. seems they change and fix quite a lot of thing. may be the tactics that work in this beta demo are not working on the gold demo as well :p

well, Rob's tactic was cracked after 2 games, I went on to lose 4 straight... changed tactics, beat Chelsea 3-0 :|

I can beat Chelsea and Man Utd 3-0, yet I'm losing to Aston Villa and drawing with Everton :|

and I hate the processing of matches, takes wayyyyyyy too long... I prefer the fast processing of CM 01/02 :(

Pfff, comon, CM01/02 no matter how good was when it was made and maybe compared to FM nowdays it was better, but comparing both games NOW Cm01 is crap.

Also don't go say it's **** immediatly while this is only the Beta demo. Wait until the gold demo is out.

i disagree alex, i still think CM0102 is easily the most playable of all, its fast and the match engine is easy. CM4 really was 3 steps backwards and only now are SI catching up.

Either way the demo im playing of FM is damn good :D

if you saw my earlier post, I said I loved the game... it does however have its faults which need to be fixed in the actual game

CM4 made about 3 steps forward. One of em was the 2d engine. (you find the rest).
the only step backward was the wibble/wuble screens. It had bugs, but still better than CM01 in everything

oh alright fair enough, lol, indeed it did take many steps forwards but the bugs let it down crucially.

But put it this way alex, id still rather play CM0102 over CM4 anyday - and im not the only one.

oh right, they're your only problems. lol

First one has been changed for the better, a lot more consitency in matches due to major changes in the match engine.

Processing has been shaven. though obviously no-one really knows as its your computer that matters, suggestions would be to change the processing style on the preferences menu

playing gold demo now. found some something that "unusual"

henry only have 15 for dribbling and finishing and 16 for first touch :D seems a little bit unusual.

so that critiano ronaldo. 16 for dribbling

the stats often start really low then shoot up
