Another great player quits the international scene.

Czech Republic captain Pavel Nedved has retired from international football to focus on his club career at Juventus.
The 32-year-old European footballer of the year has been suffering from a persistent knee injury and does not believe he can play for both teams.

The midfielder won 83 caps and scored 17 goals in a decade with the side.

Nedved, who suffered the injury in the Euro 2004 semi-final defeat to Greece, said: "It really saddens me to be leaving the national team."

He added: "I believe that my former team-mates, who I was honoured to play with, as well as my fans will respect and understand my decision.

"I do not want to be seen as leaving without feeling or as being disgruntled."

its sad, the international scene suffers again
but great for juve

i heard somewhere that a french coach said if ur profession is football your nation should have the right to call on you to play no matter what

and with all these great players leaving, its kinda sounding like a good idea now

i dunno, maybe he just had sour grapes over zidane

I also thought he had already quit. Anywayz I guess this is the best thing for Juve since they won't have to put up with him being called up for WC Qualifyers.

Well there were reports of him saying that he had quit but then he said like last week that he had never said such things and that he can't wait to play for the Czech team again so who knows.

Anyway great news for Romania since we play the Czechs next month :rockman: :rockman: but I agree this is sad for football seeing Zidane, Figo and now Nedved leaving the international scene :(.

Does Poborsky continue in Czech NT?

After Zidane, another 1972 guy stop his intternational career.
