View Full Version : how come i don't get to play?

on my first game for the jv team the coach only let me on for 3 minutes and then took me off. I don't know why he took me off. He put me in center midfield and I ran all over the ******* field. I got back into defense, won two balls in the center, and made runs up front. This was more than everyone else on the team did the rest of the match. In training I can't keep up all the way with all the runs but I'm always the best in anything with the ball and I sprint faster than the rest of the team.

Don't tell me I'm not good enough. The results so far have been 3-0, 6-2, 7-1, 11-0, 2-0.

Does this mean I'll never get to play?

talk to the coach. no use in bitching if the coach just won't let you play. if you're as good as you say you are talk to him and figure the problem out, because he can't afford to lose you.

AhmedK
30-09-2004, 05:27:AM
talk to him, really, the first step to success is to not alienate yourself from the staff and other players. What I said to him when I was on the JV team was: "Hey coach(or mr._____) today(or talking about playing time period) I felt i worked really hard, did a lot of things right, and went 110% to the ball, im wondering why I was taken off so soon, because I would really like to get better and get more time, and the first step is to know from you, what I need to really work on after practice and on weekend"

You tell him that, and I guarantee you three things: 1). The coach will love you/respect you above any other JV players 2). because you have shown him you have drive, and determination, your name will almost immediately be put on a list of potential Varsity players for next season, or even this season 3). they will start overlooking tiny mistakes and faults because they know/think you will work 110% to fix it.

Also, if you are a bit out of shape, ask the HEAD coach for a ball after practice, so you can do some running with the ball, or ask for a few to work on shots, that also puts you in really good light.

btw, good news everyone, im sure you care, but next season im likely going to play NCAA DivII soccer with ESU, im going to have to pay, but last years seniors, who play their now have told me they are sure I will be able to make the team, since they don't have many players who are really good on the ball. I will have to lose more weight, and get really fit for the Uni level though. Even I don't make it, ill play intramural, and then try out the season after, if a player comes out for the team a couple of seasons in a row, they are bound to take him.

Like Ahmed said, the only thing you can really do is ask him. He makes the decisions and he'll know the answer.

I came on with about 20 mins to go the other week, did quite well, all the other guys said I did good, even the manager. Then the next week I came on with 10 mins to go? I even said to myself 'how does that work out?' But the main manager said to me in training i'll get a start soon and i've impressed him probably the most out of everybody at the whole club (this is mens btw lol, im not a sucky youth player :p) and i've just got to wait.

I work my hardest in training and treat it like it's my chance. It sounds like you work hard but just try and give it ur all... All the time. Maybe do some extra training work on ur own so you are able to keep up with the runs.

Do that and you will get your chance... Then... Take it

HA! only 55? In our junior school league, there is always only ONE team who gets over 50 players trying out every year and they are always winning the league, the rest get 25-30 max!

Dude, u were on for 3 minutes, you have little influence on the result... so maybe, you are not good enough...

From the scoreline, your team seems pretty good without you..so yeh... *hint hint*

maybe your coach thought u were already tiring out??

best is to ask him, but if he sub u off after 3 minutes, it can't be good..

good luck anyawys

where the **** did i say anything in this thread about discrimination bull****?

I made it to practice late today (Chess club, where it is important I come) and only made it to the scrimmage. A lot of kids laughed at me when I came because they figured I wouldn't show up every again, but I set all that straight in a little bit. I ran everywhere, I made the deftest passes you can imagine, and I stopped all their plays. They just stick me in defence now because I can't run but by the end of the game I played wherever the hell I wanted.

The coach just said that he had to get me more playing time. He could have done that in the last game. Why the hell won't he play? I just don't ******* get it. It sounds like he's just not going to let me play the next game either

I may transfer out of ESU and go to Penn State after 2 years(engineering program), If I got straight to a Penn State satellite campus, instead of the main Uni,or ESU Im sure I will play Varsity level, all of Penn States schools are DIVII, but since its a satellite they wont have as many good players, or as much pressure to win titles, which means less running, which means Ahmed is a happy boy. :( :p

Eugene, if the running ever gets too hard, find a private place, and make yourself vomit.....works like a charm!(H)No more running!

I dont do that btw, our team captains do, but I just go over to the stream near the pitch and sit in the shade sometimes......come on! Im here to play soccer, not run cross country! :$

They were laughing because of the lack of commitment you showed by turning up late. What in the **** are you doing at a chess club anyway.

Y'know, I once played soccer for my school team. Soccer ain't big here in Australia and I'm reasonably athletic and was much more skillful than the majority of the rest of my team.

Like you, EugeneF, in my first game, I played 7 minutes in the first game, set up a goal which put us in front 1-0.
4 minutes later, I was subbed off.

I asked my coach 'why did you sub me off?'
He replied 'because you turned up late to training, and although you are a skillful player, other players on the team laugh at you and when you do come to training late all the time, you always perform poorly in the running department which is the most important aspect in soccer.'

Moral of the story: You're Screwed :)
(Oh, and if you're wondering, I never played another game after that game and we finished last in our division :))

You should switch sports because if the coach doesn't like you (which he obviously doesn't) and you dont have the respect of your team mates, you might as well just switch to a sport like Grecco Roman Wrestling or something.

My first season of soccer, I had a coach like that, he would find any excuse to put players on the bench.....I tried to do everything right, but by the end, I said screw it! I had some of the best times of my life sitting there on the bench, having fun with all the other clowns. (H) By the end of the season, he only put the losers, who no one liked, in the game, they sucked. This season however, everyone either quit, was cut, or moved on to the next level. :( Not as fun anymore, but soccer is soccer. btw, that coach I was talking about.......we pantsed him a few times. You HAVE to be in shape to play any level of competitive soccer. It's no use having skills, making two runs and then being out of breath for the rest of the game. Also, when you aren't fit, you react slower, you don't think as fast, you have less agility etc. Soccer requires fitness before alot of other things, because without fitness, there's not much you can do for 90 minutes.

Sounds to me like you need an attitude adjustment.....

No amount of skill will make you team win if you have that attitude.
Maybe your coach knows that and is trying to teach you something...maybe you should learn.
But your arrogant attitude coupled with your whining like a little biotch and the fact you show up late for practise is definitely not going to get you more playing time.

Playing time is earned, it is not a god-given right. So work your a$$ off and be HUMBLE and earn your spot on the team (if you are as talented as you say you are, then you will give the coach no choice but to put you on the team). But if you whine and moan about not getting playing time, I can guarantee you that the vast majority of coaches out there will give you bench, bench and more bench.....

Grow up, work hard and earn it..... or quit and shut up....but for ****'s sake, stop whining

then stop making whinny threads.

a month ago you couldnt run for 2 mins, and now you want to be a starter, after being late to practice no less... I dont know where you play, but every team I've ever been.. if you were late for practice.. you didn't play that week.. you have to earn your time.. not whine about it.. so if you want to leave you alone.. stop making little girl threads

:rockman:

Help?

Eugene, are you saying that chess club is MORE important for you than soccer  ? If it is then why are you playing soccer? Why not improve one thing, rather than be OK in both?

Still Chess Club
