View Full Version : Fifa 2005 resolution probs ...
Guys , i'm in big s**t
I have installed Fifa 2005, but ingame i can only select following screen resolutions :
640x480x16
640x480x32
800x600x16
1024x768x16
Now, my PC is fast enough, my graph card (ATI radeon 9800 XT pro 256 RAM) also, I even tried a fresh installed WinXP , with all patches, updated drivers (catalyst 4.9), but still ...
DXDIAG doesn't show any faults or malfunctions, all other games work ( I play NHL2005 at 1600x1200x32)
I'm kinda desperate, anyone got an idea how to solve this ?
Thx,
SatY
jotty 09-10-2004, 07:29:AM I have a worse problem, the game runs very slow i mean slowww
My spec is high as well and I am running a Radeon 9800pro.
Is this another Radeon problem.
Anyone help please.
I talked to a support member of EASports for over an hour, trying to figure out what is wrong.
Now , I know my hardware and drivers are ok, ANY other game runs smoothly and on high resolutions.
Fifa 2005 autodetects your "level" of graph.card and adjusts the possible option choices to the ones you're supposed to be able to handle ... And for some reason, my card isn't recongnized as HighEnd :(
Guess Fifa is out, and the waiting for PES4 begins :)
Quboid 10-10-2004, 09:41:PM Same card, same drivers, same OS, same problem. Stupid EA trying to be too clever. I hope they patch this fast.
I've put my old card in (Geforce FX5700) and it works.
Strange ...
cristi 13-10-2004, 09:48:AM I have a Radeon X800 XT and it still doesn't allow me to pick a higher resolution than 1024!
I wonder what cards are the high resolutions meant for.
askywalker 13-10-2004, 03:23:PM Hi Guys
I Have a Nvidia 5900 Ultra.
To add to the confusion, I can select 1280 x 1024 as my resolution.
But, when the match starts it is running in 1024!
I can't force the resolution with a locale.ini either.
Any idea on this one?

Yup, that's my problem too
Quboid 13-10-2004, 10:41:PM I'm not sure but I think FIFA is running at 800 for me regardless of what I choose from my limited options.
CVS Stilton 15-10-2004, 04:15:AM Radeon 9200 stuck at 1024 x 728....
Xtr3me3 18-10-2004, 06:26:PM some ppl are having this problem...mostly ati radeon XT users
[mouta-FCP] 18-10-2004, 07:05:PM Seems that FIFA have an issue with ATI cards...
schils 18-10-2004, 07:28:PM Same here...ATI 9800 pro w/latest drivers. Selecting 1280x1024 in the game set up still yields 1024x768 during game. EA? EA? Anybody listening? Hello?
Paleta 19-10-2004, 12:15:AM did you try creating a locale.ini file with RESOLUTION=1280x1024x32 ?
schils 19-10-2004, 01:31:AM No, how do I create a locale.ini? I edit the cmn data ini all the time, but never knew how to make one from scratch...if it's to time consuming, don't worry about it, thanks.
Yes, and didn't solve a thing
wmania1 19-10-2004, 10:33:AM Game looks worse than fifa1998 on my radeon 7200.
ma-sc 20-10-2004, 03:58:AM have the same prob: radeon 9500 pro and a resolution of 640x480!!!
Quboid 20-10-2004, 07:14:PM Are EA likely to patch this? How long does it normally take for them to release a patch?
bizjer 20-10-2004, 08:15:PM yeah, i have a new x800xtpe card, very nice but cant get highter than 1024. Still i put the d3d settings onto max, aa=16 af=8 etc, game looks quite nice but would rather it be at 1240 or whatever that res is.

pool4ever 24-10-2004, 05:15:PM help. my game stuck at 640x480
I found a solution :)
I had the same probs, couldn't choose the resolutions, had choppy gameplay.
After some days of trying different things, i went on to reverse the drivers of my ati radeon 9800XT.
When i got to Catalyst 4.5, all worked as designed :)
I lost the choppy framerate after installing WinXP SP2.
So :
WinXP SP2 + Catalyst 4.5 (uninstall your current drivers before installing the SP2 and the Catalyst 4.5)
Driver location :

Quboid 28-10-2004, 07:20:PM You sir, are heaven sent! :kader:
Performance isn't as good as I'd hoped but I guess I can only push my XT so far. I guess having an LCD with a native resolution of 1600x1200 has it's disadvantages :(
