shokz 13-10-2004, 11:15:PM Given the conditions I'd not be surprised if England drop points.
Wright-Phillips probably would've played if Sven used 4-4-2 instead of the 4-3-3 diamond.
Ubik Valis 13-10-2004, 11:16:PM I guess so....I'd be supporting only clubs too, if I lived in sh!thole like England or Jamaica. (H) :(

soccerbest 14-10-2004, 12:08:AM HT: 1-0 England
garlei 14-10-2004, 12:11:AM Does Jenas deserve a start?
Personally I don't think so. He never really did that well at international level. Give Wright Phillips a chance. Sven might find him mature enough to play at an international level.
VanTheMan 14-10-2004, 12:27:AM ya.SWP should have started.I would pick him over Jenas anytime.More pace.Better eye for a goal.An full of tricks
Anyway 1 more goal for England may settle it
soccerbest 14-10-2004, 12:37:AM Smith comes on for Defoe
lplover2k2 14-10-2004, 12:52:AM Swp is very good;i think he now is good enough to get a start specially when he can play the same position as Beckham
shokz 14-10-2004, 12:56:AM So will Azerbaijan be competing in the next Olympics? I must say this team has some pretty good divers. I'm in awe.
VanTheMan 14-10-2004, 01:12:AM Robinson may be our Eng no.1 by 1 year.he looks better now!
how was Rooney in this game?
soccerbest 14-10-2004, 01:14:AM He was rather quiet, but had a couple of free-kicks parried by the keeper. Got subbed by Joe Cole in the 85 minute.
SlowSilver 14-10-2004, 01:18:AM Solid performance by the lads, good result. (Y)
mufc_daddy 14-10-2004, 05:51:AM Owen: 'I was wind assisted'
Stand-in skipper Michael Owen admitted the blustery conditions helped him score England's only goal in the win over Azerbaijan.

His first half header was enough to seal a vital 1-0 away victory for Sven Goran-Eriksson's men after the World Cup qualifier had been in doubt due to the uncompromising weather.
But Owen, who admitted joining up with his England colleagues after a difficult few weeks at Real Madrid has given him a boost, took advantage of the windy conditions.
He said: 'It was a great ball from Ashley Cole and the wind was swirling everywhere, everyone thought the defender would get it.
'Even my header bent in the wind, the conditions were tough but obviously it helped me for the goal.
'It was important for us to win the game, the players come second and it is how we do as a team that matters.
'It's nice to get a goal but the game's not just about scoring. I can play well and not score, like I did the other night (against Wales on Saturday).''
With David Beckham absent, Owen continued: 'It was nice to be captain, it's a great honour.
'It was always going to be difficult, away from home it's very tough.
'Over the years I've seen it become 100% more difficult going away to play.
'We would have taken a 1-0 win before the match, but it would have been nice to have scored a couple.''
England had a number of half-chances to extend their advantage, but their hosts also had opportunities to get themselves back into the game.
Owen continued: 'We've got six points from two games and we're happy with that.
'We'll see when we get them at home, I don't think the public would be satisfied with a 1-0 win.
'We're not trying to hide anything, we could have played better but if you said we could win 1-0 we would have taken that all day long.''
Owen admitted his vital goal capped off a great few days for him on a personal level.
The Real Madrid striker added: 'It's been a great night.
'To be captain, win the game and score a goal, and go home (to England) to see my family, it couldn't get any better.'

At least the goal was rightfully his. I cant believe he tried to claim that one off Frank against Wales.
At least we are on top of the table and thats the way it will stay.
