View Full Version : Robinho signs with Benfica
Punkt 29-10-2004, 02:10:AM According to the press today, Robinho signed a 5 years and half deal with Benfica yesterday in Rio. Benfica will pay his wages (1M euros per year) and a group of investidors will pay the transfer money to Santos. If this is true it's a MAJOR sign for us. :D

Paulo Da Silva 29-10-2004, 02:16:AM sorry but that article says he'll stay 1and half years only
shokz 29-10-2004, 02:22:AM Thats the newspaper which said that Rui Costa was on his way to Old Trafford, but it was not true at all. I'd wait for either Santos or SL Benfica to release an official statement before believing anything from Record.

Record wasn't the only to publish this news. All papers published it.
Both clubs will only confirm this after the brazilian league is over. Santos is fighting for the title.
Punkt 29-10-2004, 03:11:AM Robinho birthday is the same as Eusebio: 25th January :D
Virgo 29-10-2004, 03:14:AM I will only believe it when I see him holding the Benfica shirt.
Until then it's good to dream :p
PI-AIR 17 29-10-2004, 03:16:AM not with Barca?????????????

so the investidors are Chelsea :p
I'm anxious to see him with our shirt :)
PSVFOREVER 29-10-2004, 04:46:AM I still have (very little) hopes he'll come to PSV...
Virgo 29-10-2004, 04:55:AM bleh you already got Alex don't be selfish :p
Vagegast 29-10-2004, 07:04:AM Can't compare a mediocre defender to Robinho.
And AFP is quoting the Daily Mail.
if he goes to benfica it will be a waste of talent..
he should go first to a mid table spanish team then to barca
0le_Spain 29-10-2004, 07:32:AM He should have gone to PSV and then to Barça just like Romario and Ronaldo did :p
bbranco10 29-10-2004, 07:44:AM Guys you think Benfica is bad for him?
Hell get european experience and play good teams then from there he gets noticed, like Diego right now at Fc porto. This is defenitely better than a midtable spanish team as he wouldnt get european experience. Well with some of them.
let's hope one day he'll join the Brazillian legion at Milan :D
syaz_wan03 29-10-2004, 09:02:AM isnt psv is nursery club for chelsea...?
i heard abt. this plan long time ago...

I think Robinho fears EPL and the Dutch league.
Nakamura 29-10-2004, 06:25:PM Well, Portuguese newspaper "O Jogo", one of the newspapers that yesterday said Robinho was almost sure in Benfica, is today saying that the transfer is at risk now.
To me, this is all typical press bullsh*t to sell more. Right now there are several clubs wanting Robinho and they create a lot of speculation surrounding that.
Anyway, I think we Benfiquistas should start facing the fact that Robinho won't probably come to our club. One more case to join the hundreds others where the press announced players were coming to Benfica and they didn't.
Do you still give an credit to Portuguese sport newspapers when it comes to transfers? I don't.
Of course, we can only dream and wish for it to happen.

yes a mid table spanish team is better than go to Benfica... sure  It's better play to battle against the relegation in a small team than play in a big team that fights for titles and will play in the CL next season. you're right.

his agent arrived today in Lisbon and said that Robinho choosed Benfica has his number 1 priority because he likes the club since his 14 years old (because of a hardcore Benfica fan friend that lives in Santos) and he likes Portugal.
Virgo 29-10-2004, 07:19:PM where did you read that about the agent Punkt?

Robinho is not that good.. I;d predict he'll be back in Brazil in about 1 /12 years even if he lasts that long
SB9Dragon 29-10-2004, 09:11:PM Like I said b4 I still can't imagine Robinho at Chelsea. That would be suicidal for his health :crazyboy:
Punkt 30-10-2004, 12:12:AM Last reports say that Chelsea is not involved in the deal.

He wont go to the EPL because he's too skinny atm. But the Dutch League? You gotta be kidding. After seeing some of Kezman's performances for Chelsea, i'm sure Robinho would **** on the defenders at Holland.
adnan2850 30-10-2004, 01:31:AM who is robino????

Young Brazilian striker, couple years ago he was said to be the next Pele.

Neither we do. Everyone here in Brazil (including me...) thought Alex was a very good defender, now he's doing ****e from what i've heard. Maybe he'll settle, but still...
Thank god our attack makes for it. Anyway, he're in the league, there are clubs that scored 70+ but conceded 60+. Crazy stuff.
Virgo 30-10-2004, 01:59:AM you don't see many 5 - 0 or 6 - 0 results in Portugal or close to none, on the other hand in Holland when you look at the results between the top and the small teams, most of them are really heavy wins.
The point is you could say defences are better in Portugal than in Holland. Even the small teams here apply really high pressure on the opponent attackers.
Robinho is a Benfica fan and obviously he would have much less trouble adapting to portuguese lifestyle than dutch mostly due to the language barrier. However, he would shine more in the dutch league I think.
Atlas 30-10-2004, 02:03:AM Robinho did good in choosing Benfica there he can play for a good team and get experince in Europe to play for a bigger team later and maybe he will become stronger and grow some muscles
The thing is, that the gap between big clubs to small ones in Holland is bigger than in Portugal. Things seem more even in the Superliga.
And most of the good defenders play for the top clubs aswell in the Dutch League.
Vagegast 30-10-2004, 02:09:AM What can I say? I agree with both of you.
PSVFOREVER 30-10-2004, 02:50:AM Well, apparently Real Madrid made a bid for Robinho
http://www.vi.nl/vi/show/id=62802/contentid=64422/sc=16a02d
It says it isn't known how much his contract is.
Zlatan 30-10-2004, 02:51:AM Like they need him...
RuiCosta_10 30-10-2004, 03:22:AM F*ck, Real in the Run! :(
GO CHELSEA GO!! (H)

is that the same Alex who used to play for Santos and was amazing at fk's ? :(
zuppafly 30-10-2004, 06:48:AM I'm a Porto fan and I'm obviously concerned about Robinho joining Benfica.
But I'm also a Portuguese and I would love to see him in our league. It would only help our projection in Europe. And a stronger Benfica also means a stronger Porto (it's always like that ;) ).
So I'm hoping for this one to be true. Just imagine Diego, Fabiano and Robinho playing here... now that's something I would never expect :)

Better for the kid, better for the Dutch league, better for soccer. So he might score once or twice when he possible plays us? Big deal.
Paulo Da Silva 30-10-2004, 10:56:AM Personally i feel Robinho would be better off going to Holland. a much easier, less physical game then the portuguese league.
But on te other hand, Fabiano, Diego and Robinho playing in the Portuguese league is just amazing.
Zlatan 30-10-2004, 02:55:PM Nah the kid will join atleast a Portuguese club, most likely ATM Benfica, because the culture isn't really a huge diffrence and they speak the same language as in Brasil. If he's wise enough he doesn't have to think twice to go to Benfica.

Yeah. But look at Luisão, apparently at the start he wasnt all good. Now he's performing (from what i've heard) and most of the times he plays for the Seleção he does a good job. Alex is young, he'll improve....i hope.
Virgo 30-10-2004, 09:29:PM yeah Luisao was sh*t when he came but adapted really well and he's been rock solid this season.
Still he has a very good partner in defence, Ricardo Rocha one of the most underrated defenders atm.
PSVFOREVER 30-10-2004, 10:54:PM Alex amazing at freekicks??? hahahahahahahaha funniest thing I've ever heard, his freekicks go: 20 mettres over, in the wall or they don't even reach the wall...
Punkt 30-10-2004, 10:59:PM the majority of the Brazilian CB need time to adapt. just see Luisão, he sucked when arrived and now is the best CB of SuperLiga IMO. I remember Aldair in Benfica, just played 1 season and wasn't so good and we sold him to Roma where he made a great career.
RuiCosta_10 30-10-2004, 11:02:PM Also Anderson Polga at Sporting, was always on the bench, and used to play like sh*t at the begining, now he is their best defender IMO... Still, nothing special :crazyboy:
Punkt 30-10-2004, 11:06:PM the press today told that the deal is confirmed, but Santos wants Robinho to stay until June 2005 to play in the Libertadores, but Robinho wants to part to Lisbon in January and are pressing the club.
Robinho: "Benfica is a great club. My objectives now are to win the brazilian league and then part to Europe."

Back here in Brazil, Alex was one of the best free kick takers on the league. I guess he's like Carlos, he just hits it hard. When it reaches the target, it's pretty likely to go in.
RuiCosta_10 31-10-2004, 07:04:PM Robinho scored two more yesterday in Santos 5-0 victory against Roger...
I wish so much he come to us... :(
Against Fluminense. Ok, Roger plays there. I know how you Benfica fans love him...(H)
RuiCosta_10 31-10-2004, 07:09:PM Well, i don't... :p
