The fact that football is not as popular as other sports in the US doesn't mean the US isn't significant. Keep in mind that ice hockey is unpopular as well here, yet the NHL is still considered the world's premier hockey league.
MEANWHILE, it would be a travesty to leave out players like Marco Etcheverry, Peter Nowak, Ben Olsen, Brian McBride, and Stern John just because they play in the United States. DC United has, in just four years, already won more international cups than the champions of many European nations that are represented in the game (including Sweden and Norway), and defeated Vasco da Gama last year to win the Interamerican Cup. I realize that a lot of people in Europe really don't want to admit that MLS is legitimate, but although I realize that it is not quite up to the level of the English Premiership or Serie A, it is definitely strong enough to be represented.
I would also like to see the Russian league in there, but not at the expense of any of the leagues already in the game.

Instead of MLS, I'd like to see some eastern-european leagues in the game. No matter what you say, I still believe MLS is low class. Now, you say that DC's international titles prove them woth it, but you seem to forget that the, say, norweigan teams are playing against other european teams, who are indeed stronger than north- and south-american teams. Noone can ever compete with europe concerning soccer. Sorry.

Mo Johnston?!?! Give me a break! He's a mediocre player on a bottom-of-the-table team.
As for competing with Europe... STOP BEING SO ETHNOCENTRIC! The South Americans can compete with Europe any day. Vasco da Gama and Boca Juniors could beat most European champions out of sight. The top leagues in Europe are Italy, England, Spain, Germany, and more recently France, and maybe, to some extent, the Netherlands - and teams from these leagues pretty much dominate European competition. Don't use the fact that Real Madrid beat Vasco or that Barcelona beat Boca Juniors lately as an excuse, Real Madrid and Barcelona crush the likes of IFK Gothenburg, Rosenborg, and Sturm Gratz a lot worse.
