This morning I watched Fox World Sports news and they had a clip of David Beckham in Real Mad. studio where he told some reporters that he will retire from his national team (ENGLAND) after the World Cup 2006 hosted in Germany ends.

He is still very young to retire IMO. But good luck to him.

The KING of freekicks..

Beckham will be over 30 in 2006 if i'm not mistaken. Usually that's the age players retire from their NT's.

Shaune Wright-Phillips will be out on the right wing by then

I also found it funny on MOTD when they said "oh he is picking himself then" LOL

He is still an excellent player at club level, but I think he should retire from international football next year.

You guys are nuts, all of you. Do you even have a clue what you`re saying.. Beckham is one of the players England will remember forever, his freekick skills will never, ever be mastered by another footballer. Him, Mihajlovic and Zidane are players that I enjoy watching taking free-kicks.

Today people don`t like him mainly of his poorly taken PK`s so what..the man gets nervous or who really knows what`s going on behind the curtains if you know what I mean.

That implies that they'll let him take any penalties.

I don't like him because he is a liar. He is also no where near as good as he was from 1997-2001, those were his best years.

I don't know that Eriksson will have much to say about it, with the amount of **** he's gotten I think Beckham would rather get kicked in the sack than take another PK.

He'd better perform all the best he can do in WC 2006, assuming England qualify for WC 2006. Man, in EURO 2004, he's so idle in the field.

duuuuuuuuuuuuude?:(

that's gonna ruin my money-maker! Fetching penalty balls from stadium roofs and selling them!!!

Kiddin

It's about time, I think. We should remember how great he was for the English NT, his free kicks, his shooting, passing, vision, his leadership, he's commitment and how he used to let it all out on the field :)...until 2004, obviously

What a load of absolute bollocks you lot talk...........so he misses 2 penalties in his career....so what.........I remember Baggio missing an important penalty once or twice as well.Jeez...your'e all envious of the bloke and it makes you look small and stupid. None of you know a damn thing about Beckham, apart from what the media feeds you..you're not even funny....just pathetic. Becks is 10 times the man any of you lot will ever be.And the reason that he is captain is because he does what all great captains do.....he inspires the team.Just when we thought we were in a trouble situation,he has saved the day many times. If you want to talk about poor performances in Euro 2004 ....look no further than the crap Italian team or the rubbish French team.At least if we are gonna go down,we will go down fighting and not play like a bunch of continental pussies..............:rockman:

England captain David Beckham dismissed suggestions that he would look to retire after the World Cup in 2006, admitting he is still aiming to win over 100 caps for his nation.

Beckham was rumoured to be considering stepping away from the international game after the World Cup in Germany in 2006, but insisted ahead of England's friendly against Spain in Madrid on Wednesday that this was not the case.

"I said, as other people have, that this World Cup could be my last but I hope it isn't," Beckham insisted.

"I'm not looking to retire. I want to keep going for as long as my legs will take me.

"I think as a youngster everyone dreams of playing for and captaining England and I am lucky enough to have done both of those.

"I want to carry on as long as I can and when I started with England I set myself a target of winning 100 caps, or perhaps 106 or 108 like Sir Bobby Charlton or Bobby Moore."

Beckham has only just returned from the rib injury sustained against Wales, playing a full game for Real Madrid as they crushed Albacete 6-1 this weekend.

"It's nice to be back. I enjoyed the game and it was an important win," added Beckham

"Fitness wise I was okay. I don't know about 90 minutes but I will do my best to play for as long as possible.

"The Real doctors, physios and the manager don't want me to play the whole game but that is down to Sven Goran Eriksson.

"As a Real Madrid player, to lead your country out at a place I play my football week in week out is a dream come true.

"The stadium is a great place to play football. I've spoken to a few people about it and they are all looking forward to playing at the Bernabeu."

Michael Owen is also looking forward to running out at the Bernabeu in an England shirt, as he looks to continue a run of form for Real that has seen him establish himself in Spain.

"It's nice going into games on a high," said Owen. "The last time I spoke before an England match the question was totally the opposite.

"That whole trip, going back to England and seeing all my mates, put a fresh bounce in my step.

"The Wales game gave me a lot of confidence and then I scored against Azerbaijan. I came back to Madrid with a spring in my step and everything has been rosy since then

"It should be a great occasion. It's a fantastic stadium and the lads who haven't played there before will be impressed by the facilities.

"I think it will be a cracking game between two international heavyweights.

"We have a half-decent record against them, we beat them 3-0 at Villa Park the last time we played but it's a long time since we've played them so things might be different."

Would be a pity to see Becks go (altho he is apparently not going)..

Problem is, England don't really have a fox in the box, waiting for that perfect ball (eg. Ruud)... most of the england forwards like to get the ball deep and then run a the defence (that fact that Sven likes to play defensive doesn't help)... so beckham doesn't really have much of a target to cross to..

thats probably why he looks useless for england now...

or maybe, i am just deluded and he is useless fullstop..
