Watched the trailer and it does look awesome! Will probably have to wait quite a while until it's released over here though.:(

Christian Bale lost a ton of weight for this movie!:o
Equilibrium is another awesome Christian Bale film, very stylish!

Are you talking about that Matrix-esque carbon copy of a flick? Just kidding, I thought Equilibrium sucked. Nice plot-line, though.

Equilibrium was a crazy movie. I began to watch it as I woke up all tired on a Sunday morning, and it sure woke me up.

It was so like the book 1984. You know; forseeing the future and everything.

I'll have some expectation for this movie. Hakeem, hopefully you're right.

That's what I thought at first but then I watched it and thought it was a lot better than both Matrix sequels.

those IMDB guys are crazy. I mean, when someone starts quoting Kafka and Dostoyevsky, you need to stop reading. too much :p

Callan

IMDB is not that bad, voting wise, they have a relatively good indication of what's good and what's not... but some of their votes are just pure crap... for example, Hook only has something like 5 stars, as does Titanic, yet the Others or something like that has a higher score... and the Village for example only has 6.5... so underatted.

A lot of people are extremely ignorant and just vote 1 for great films... like the godfather or the lord of the rings... every film has people who vote 1 and people who vote 10... but the way that IMDB works it out is pretty good.

The Machinist has a good score, 7.6... generally when I go by the IMDB rating i knock everything up 1. So, Godfather will be 10/10, as will LOTR and Shawshank, therfore, the Machinist will br 8.6, the VIllage 7.5 etc. I found this works pretty well and is a good indication of votes.

I just saw the Machinist, and im confused

* Spoilers *

I thought the movie was decent, but Bale's great performance made this movie anything more than should have been. I thought it was a little too similar to Memento and Fight Club. Except it wasnt as easy to follow as Memento and wasnt as entertaining as Fight Club. Maybe if i see it again ill like it more. Theres just too much movies these days with the story revolving around a character who interacts with characters that dont exist. The Forgotten being the obvious worst example.

Hakeem, you liked this movie, can you explain some things to me?

- Which body was in rolled up carpet at the beginning? Why was he getting rid of it?

- What was in the fridge?

- Is he in a mental institution or prison cell at the end?

- Was it just me, or did he look a lot like Kevin Richardson from the Backstreet Boys?

As for Bale, great performance, being in a movie like Batman will only give him the fame he deserves. He was anorexic for this movie, that couldnt be healthy. Apparently he wanted to go down to 110 pounds, but producers thought it was unhealthy, so he went to 130 (i cant even imagine what hed look like at 110 pounds). He lost weight by only eating a can of tuna and apple a day.

SPOILERS

1- there as nothing there, it was supposedly the bald guy, but since the bald guy was his subconscientious, it was all his imagination.

2- not sure about why the fridge was bleeding.

3- he goes to confess about the accident at the end of the movie. I dont actually remember that final scene you talk about (:/)

4- yes he did look like the BSB guy. btw, shame on you for naming them :nape: :p

Same here. If I didnt know, id think his roles in the Machinist, American Psycho and Reign of Fire were all different actors.

I actually have no idea what he actually sounds like. Does he have an English accent? I know hes from the UK but hes been acting since a young age and has prob been in the US since he started acting.

Christian Bale is the most underrated actor out there to me. I think the new Batman flick will raise his status tenfold, as I expect an amazing performance in that one as well, restoring the Batman auora after Joel Schumacher brutalized it.:kader:

Rather than start a new thread on it, i just searched and decided to post here. I just seen this movie and Christian Bale is barely recognisable in it. Damn he lost so much weight just to play the role in this movie.

Overall i thought it was a great movie. Better than a lot of garbage out there, did anyone get the feeling the ending was a little anti-climatic?

Well, I thought the end was good, actually. This movie is an absolute winner. I love dark, weird, almost anti-genre movies, and The Machinist is one of the best. Shame we get so few.

Anyway, I was shocked at Bale's loss of weight. Am I the only one thinking it's wrong and stupid to risk your health for your job's sake?

Hakeem
02-04-2005, 05:06:PM
I wouldnt say stupid. he committed and he it worked great. and Im sure he had doctors and all that stuff checking on him so he wouldnt get hurt.

Yeah, i think it can be dangerous to lose so much weight like that, but maybe like Hakeem said he had doctors checking him out regularly, or maybe even a dietician to help out on what would be the best foods to keep your health but to trim off the weight.

Yes the ending is good, it reminded me a bit like American Psycho in a way for some reason, its a weird, weird movie none the less.
