I didn't buy this, early today I was at a customer's house, fixing their old big-screen, after we were done I noticed that the guy had a pretty good DVD collection, he saw me looking throught it, so I told him I was surprised he had Amadeus on his collection, (he had told me he worked as a contractor for construction, I guess someone with a musical background would be expected to have it, plus it didn't seem right in his collection, he had alot of 80's action, alot of horror, and pulp films).

So he said "You want it, go ahead take it, I don't know how I got that".
"Have never seened it, and don't plan to."


So I took it.
He was pretty cool, even though we were there a short time.
Gave us a couple of drinks, and even let us play around with his 73 ich, DLP projection TV.


I love this film, had never gotten around to buying it, I'm a huge Classical Era fanatic.
This is definitely my favorite Music/Play-type film of all time.

First of, I hadn't done this type of work in a while, and my cousin just called me out of the blue to see if I could help a guy he had just hired to do a job, since he was going to be out most of the weekend due to a family reunion of part of his wife. I had worked with him before, most of this stuff is pretty easy, but I guess he just didn't trust the new guy.
Without wanting, I ended up doing most of the work myself, that's when I noticed it.

What is the story all about ? Never heard anything like this.

It was a television show that was on British TV in the early 90's. The concept being that celebrities would pick a Fantasy football team and they'd plot their course over the season.

Chatting with the celebrities and, the majority of the time, just making up random sketches and segments based on things they'd seen whilst watching football. Only the 2004 series (centering on Euro 2004) got a DVD release.

That 7-disc footy thing is canny. Has archive footage of Newcastle's 1910 FA Cup finals. Loads of interviews and it really gives you an insight into why the NASL blew up.

I recently bought a whole bunch of stand-up comedy DVDs, including some Jackie Mason, George Carlin, Lenny Bruce, Bill Maher etc and the only Bill Hicks DVD I didnt own, Sane Man. Cant wait to check some of these guys out as my American standup viewing has been very limited up til now.

the hard drive is separate, and I got a 180 gb one. it plays video, audio, and picture, and is capable of HD (720p, 1080i...). even plays backed up DVDs (files)! the screen quality I get from ripped video is quite better than I expected (DVD quality on a normal 2-3 CD rip with the proper HD tools), and it's very portable. it won't replace the DVD (cover art, box, etc..), but I'll definitely have some fun with this.

My brother just brought a copy of Seven Swords the other day. must say not bad as martial art films go. Had loads of dvd extras which is always good - particularly liked the behind the scenes and stunt work

I see... Almost nobody in Russia buys licensed dvds - only illegal copies of it :D 120 roubles ~ 2.5 pounds. There are also collection dvds available - up to 15 films on one double-sided dvd for the same price of 120 roubles.

Yeah, unless it's something I really want to see, I wait for it to come down to below £10, or go into a special offer, which everything does eventually. On the HMV website they regularly do three for fifteen pound offers, with loads of great stuff. Also, Fopp's often have good DVDs for just £5 or £7.

Fopp is SUCH a good store. For indy music or film, i'm so glad its one thing we actually do have in Sheffield.

I'm now 'The Ladykillers" and "Intolerable Cruelty" short of completing my Coen brothers feature length movie collection.

Same here, and I dont intend to complete it either - I have a feeling those two movies would severely damage my opinion of the Coen Brothers, which is extremely high at present.

There is a new directors cut of Blood Simple coming out soon, however, which I will certainly get.

Yeah, they quickly became one of my favourite filmmakers after I watched Raising Arizona and Miller's Crossing some years back. I just love their awesome writing and quirkiness, man. And it doesn't hurt that they continually recast some of my favourite actors in Buscemi, Goodman, Turturro and Frances McDormand on the regular.

Heh, it's pretty funny that you're also holding off on seeing those two movies that I've also mentioned because I feel exactly the same way aswell, man. I've had countless of opportunities to pick both of em up for bargain based prices but I just couldn't pull the trigger, man. Anyway, yeah. My seriously flawed completist temperament will over power me sooner or later and force me to buy 'em.

Nah, I will always hold out. I saw about 30 minutes of Intelorable Cruelty on TV once and had to turn it off because my Coen Brothers likeometer was crashing. Ladykillers is even worse, apparently.

Miller's Crossing was the first of their movies I saw, and I absolutely loved it. Then came Fargo, which really impressed me, and then the mighty Big Lebowski, which just blew my mind. I also loved The Man Who Wasn't There, just an incredible work of art, and The Hudsucker Proxy because it is just a delightful little film. Their casting is spot on, and I love the way they are prepared to cast people which may usually be considered purely as supporting actors in lead roles, to superb effect. They also know how to get the best out of Frances McDormand, she is always top notch in their films, as well as working with many of the greats such as Paul Newman, Albert Finney, Tim Robbins, George Clooney etc.

I just love their work so much that I will avoid having my opinion of them stained at all costs. Luckily, due to my penchant for older and more obscure films and directors, alot of the films I want are impossible to get hold of, so few areas of my collection are complete and that makes me less concerned with completing my Coen Brothers collection than I otherwise might be.

As far as I know this is no directors cut of the Departed in the works.

There has, however, just been a DVD rerelease of Children of Men, meaning you no longer have to settle for that ****ty vanilla edition with the cover that looks only-just-not-pirated. The new one is two disk and has lots of special features, and best of all, if you have the vanilla edition you can send it in and they'll replace it for the new one free of charge!

How are you doing that with the DVD regions thing? I'm going to the US next week and thought about buying a bunch of DVDs over there, but immediatly realized they wouldn't work on my european DVD player (region 2). I'm really not sure how it works... :$ Lots of UK DVD players can play all region DVDs, especially the cheaper ones you get from supermarkets and the like because it costs money to encode them. In my life I've bought four different DVD players and every single one has played region 1 DVDs. Apparantly even if you do get one that's encoded you can crack it just using the remote, but I dont know how. You could search on google though.

I use the PC, I put the DVD in and open it with RealPlayer, I can't remember EXACTLY how, but there is an option you can use that de/recodes it, normally, though, when I put it in, a pop-up appears asking me if I want to change the area code, and that does it.

Look for a small program called "AnyDVD", that should solve all the regional bullsh!t, please it even has a function that allows your DVD-player to jump straight to the menu, without having to watch through all that copyright crap.

It's probably the best HBO produced show ever......hell even the best show ever made in tv history....bar none...ehm. I mean, it and the Sopranos are 1 and 1A for me, but the depth, intense level of absorption and writing on the Wire is just simply unmatched.


Now I've been meaning to buy these as collection pieces for quite a while, but I just never got around to it, man. With season 5 (most likely the last one) looming, I finally got the impetus to grab 'em to refresh my recollection of the first three seasons.

one of the funniest, most cleverest movies that I've ever seen, man.....quite a while go...maybe more than a decade since I last saw it.....on VHS. The commercial for the second season DVD really caught my eye so I went ahead and bought season one. So far I have not been disappointed. Great series and a sure A++ for a series that portrays how Rome was back in its days

Anyhow, It is indeed a great F****NG Series. from the cast, to the storyline, to the scenery.

I just finished watching season one and now its on to season two. Favorite characters on my list has to be Titu Pullo and Lucius Vorenus. I did hate vorenus for what he did in episode 9, but man did he redem himself two episodes later. Ohh and Servila, Is she one crazy, pissed of bitch or what. I felt pity for her at one point, now I wish she just died.

I've just ordered Season 2 after catching the odd episode here and there. Season 1 is incredible, I've watched all the episodes with the historical facts as well and watched all the special features too. ROME has hooked me on history - especially the Empire.

Also if you thing Servila's pissed in this one wait till season 2!!

Shame 2 is to be the last season - ah well best to go out on top I guess.

I'm actually on the last two episodes, and I agree, the only bad thing about this entire series is that it was only two seasons long. :(. And you ain't kidding about Servila.

As far as getting hooked on history, I'm about to buy a book that goes into detail about the roman empire. This series sure has opened a great deal of interest for it even more.. :rockman:

I'm taping "The Tudors" on BBC at the moment, I'm hoping it's in the same vein as "Rome" albeit about old British history obviously (which is also fairly brutal as well)

I don't think this one is an HBO production, more like an in house BBC job.

I'm with Virgin Media - SKY 1 was dropped from the VM package after SKY hiked the price up - Channel Four is only allowed to show episodes three years old (plus Sky 1 showed far more episodes per week too)
