I just got PES4 today, and whoa is it a crock of **** or what. Gameplay is pathetic. As slow as a fart. Can only dribble in 8 directions up,down,left,right,all 4 diagonals. Dribbeling is stuttery and crap. Hit the buttons, and they dont do anything... Shooting is absolutely bollox, Free kick taking is retarded, how u suppost to aim with nothing, pitch is scled way too big, I feel like ive got akers of space. Passing is crap. half the time they dont even reach. What else did I find crap about this game hmmm, Online play is a joke, the Netcode is crap it lags like a whore. And I mean it. Tackeling is a joke, its as if theres no tackeling cod even been written, You cant tackle that simple. Slide and its a foul every time, hit the soft tackle and nothing happens.

Well, at least your defenders can actually SCORE in PES, like when you take corners. You can take short corners, curl the ball and every corner is different and special but in Fifa every corner is almost the same.

When you substitute players in PES4, there's a little cutscene now which shows the current player getting off the field and the substitute running to the field. In Fifa, however, they don't even show who are being substituted on the screen, the commentaries just say something like "Well, the manager made a substitution" and the AI doesn't even make substitutions; you have to edit it in a .ini file to make it work, which is stupid.

This and alot of other things has PES over Fifa.

I've said this hundreds of times and I'll say it again... I was a long time Fifa player before I tried out PES and I can say that the only things that are better in Fifa are multiplayer support and the Player Runs button.

Unlike the others I won't say you are an idiot, but I will suggest that you have hardly given the game a chance, and that what you are saying sounds exactly like what anyone says after trying out a rival game to your favourite for the first time.

I suggest you re-approach the game as if you didn't have FIFA to fall back on, play it for a week or two exclusively, and then go back to FIFA and see if you can stay with it. If so, then fair enough, maybe you just like FIFA more.

I know for a fact I have only ever played PES, starting from way back when it was only ISS98. I have only ever played one FIFA and I hardly gave it a chance. I am, however, planning to try the FIFA05 demo and see how it plays. But, unlike yourself, I will try and give it a bit more than 10 minutes.

fifa 05 suckz in comparison to pes4, everything is worse-the shooting system (it looks like the ball achieves a speed of 500 miles per hour-but the keepers get it :rolleyes: ), the graphics and especially the kits with the stupid blurry effect, the passing system and crosses are **** as well and the funniest thing is that the game is totally scripted so that there isn't a great variety between millions of possibilities to score goals (like in PES4 and in PES3 as well), a lot of goals look the same. The only thing, which is really good at fifa, are the fanchants.

FIFA is a good arcade game for children between 6 and 10 years, who have a great imagination about football, PES is a serious football simulation!

The only advantage FIFA has over PES, is that it has a more polished feel to it in the Audio/Video Department. PES kicks FIFA into touch, when it comes to gameplay.

I agree but also call 2nd defender and 1st touch. I also dont mind the free kick system but it needs to be varied so you can also play short free kicks instead of shoot. If all these were in PES I would bin Fifa for good.

In PES you can do a short pass instead of shooting . . . It`s easy, just press the pass button. And there`s a button for calling a double team marking too, if I`m not wrong it`s either L2 or R2 while defending in PS2, not really sure.

It's default F1 on keyboard and I believe it's Select on PS2. There are dozens of ways to do a free kick in PES — including using another teammate. You can see it and practise it in the Training menu. You can also choose the trajectory of the ball by using R2 and L2 (E and C on keyboard) and, like I said before, you can also curl the ball by using the arrow keys left or right.

I'll be surprised as hell to see him attempt to reply to all of this abuse.

keeping on-topic, yep, I too was a fifa lover untill I saw the light, in 1999 and I've never looked back. I always knew that FIFA was fundamentally flawed, a retarded half asses effort by EA canada...yep, even WC98 and FIFA99, both good games, but missing 90% of what we love about football.

Konami filled the void with sublime, superb gameplay which compliments football, rather than a bastardisation of football, newton and the FIFA licence...

I am also looking forward playing Netherlands when someone great guy like The Wolf makes a PES4 patch which fixes the team and player names, kits, balls, shoes etc. :p

The thing I dislike the MOST about Fifa 2005 is:

- Defenders, midfields and attackers stay on their own vertical line and AI midfielders never go past attackers, defenders never go past midfields, etc.

Example: my midfielders loses the ball, the opponent can run many meters ahead before he meets my defenders, who hardly ever moved up the field.

In PES4 the whole team plays like a team.
Example: With Madrid, if I play with my side-midfielder and hold up the ball for a second, Roberto Carlos comes sprinting up the field, ready to go for the end line, or at least offers himself to receive the ball.

If you play real soccer (or any other field/ball sport) you know it's important to make triangle shapes with 2 team mates, so you always have one 'free' guy to pass to.

Fifa never ever did this. The team that made the game has probably never even played the game. Idiots ;)

They can't be compared i agree with that but to me PES feels like the arcade version.

I've never really liked PES always been a Fifa player but been playing PES with the lads out the SFTLA for the last week (we've ben playing a load of different games latelyt online) and also played others online on that pes4 online matchup, PES has its good points but also its bad points just like Fifa. It's really down to which u prefer and even though i'm just as good at PES as i am at Fifa (therfore your point that Fifa players find it harder is flawed), i much prefer Fifa for the extra features as already pointed out like the First Touch and most importantly for me the Player Runs. Corners and Free kicks i think suck on both games being honest and the tackling is the same on both just hold the thing and it tackles so whoever criticised Fifa cos of holding it tackling instantly i find its also the same in PES so dunno where u got that from. Another thing i have noticed is playing the comp on PES on 5 star difficulty is way easier than world class on Fifa. Comparing both games to their previous games two years ago i'd say Fifa is the one making the most improvements each year and getting a lot better than its previously been while i didn't see much difference to PES when i last tried it back then.

Either way just stick to which you like there's no need to go on about which is better cos at the end of the day its is your own opinion and preference. What w've all wanted is PES to go online on PC so both games are gonna get better in the future with both companies competing with each other which can only benefit both communities in the long run. We're also gonna be starting up a PES league in the SFTLA community so both games will be catered for. (H)

I know I dont post much but been a member for a very loong time, But eh just thought id throw in my 2cents. You guys talk about which one is better all the time, its like why just why? Why not just play the game you like and thats it, Heck if you want the real deal why dont you just play real Football/Soccer and just save yourself the aggravassion (sp?) of worring if your playing realistic football/soccer or not. :)

That was my opinion -a major Fifa fan for more than 9 years- who decided to download the demo and give it a try...

Most of the things that need to be said have already been mentioned, except maybe one thing.
Ppl used to say that PES/WE are superior to Fifa as regards the gameplay, whereas Fifa beats it at graphix and presentation... THAT'S PLAIN BULL.
PES4's presentation is INCOMPARABLE to the crap Fifa shows... 'Total Broadcast mode'???? That's a lie worse than politics. The replays of PES4 are plain addiction... you can watch it for hours and still not get bored... same applies to EVERYTHING else before/during/after the match.
As regards the graphics, let me put it that way. PES4 on medium detail beats Fifa05 set on high... Oh and the Net animations... WOW... a wonder how did EA convince me such a simulation to reality is impossible concerning the net movements. I mean, sometimes I replay a goal SIMPLY to enjoy the smooth net's reaction.

If only Konami had better publicity capabilities and commercials... EA would close its doors for good.

PES4 is plain realistic amazingly enjoyable football... what's Fifa? That's anything else... volley-ball.. handball.. maybe can't tell.
That was my opinion -a major Fifa fan for more than 9 years- who decided to download the demo and give it a try...

Most of the things that need to be said have already been mentioned, except maybe one thing.
Ppl used to say that PES/WE are superior to Fifa as regards the gameplay, whereas Fifa beats it at graphix and presentation... THAT'S PLAIN BULL.
PES4's presentation is INCOMPARABLE to the crap Fifa shows... 'Total Broadcast mode'???? That's a lie worse than politics. The replays of PES4 are plain addiction... you can watch it for hours and still not get bored... same applies to EVERYTHING else before/during/after the match.
As regards the graphics, let me put it that way. PES4 on medium detail beats Fifa05 set on high... Oh and the Net animations... WOW... a wonder how did EA convince me such a simulation to reality is impossible concerning the net movements. I mean, sometimes I replay a goal SIMPLY to enjoy the smooth net's reaction.

If only Konami had better publicity capabilities and commercials... EA would close its doors for good.

pes4 has call 2nd defender, and fifa's first touch is a good idea but they fuc*ed it up as usual... it works on every player, 99% of the time.

Unless some EA`s fanatic SG mod changed the pool, I doubt that FIFA will beat this year. That screen was taken just an hour before the pool ended.

It's great to see so many people realize what the better game is..........

Maybe Now fifa will put most of thier effort in gameplay instead of choosing the right
"SOUNDTRACK" for a football game.......

When you play Fifa, everything is scripted — at least in 2004 and 2005. So since it's scripted there is no real fun scoring same and same goal again and no use saving it as a cool replay. You take a corner and choose one of the three players to pass to and you score. You get a corner again at same place and send to the same player and you score exactly the same goal; same way, same guy, even same side of the net.

Only thing Fifa has over PES/WE is commentary and licences, but i'm sure Konami will make it better in future releases. I was surprised though when I heard that the commentator in WE/PES Peter Brackley, says the name of almost every player in the teams I've selected if not all.

I've played FIFA for a while now, good arcade fun with a couple of mates, but then oneday I played PES 2 and it just bought the biggest smile to my face, I couldn't get over how new and exciting and refreshing it was, I still think PES 2 is beter than FIFA 05, let alone how good PES 4 is.

I got FIFA 04 and PES 3, after a month playing FIFA made me want to gauge my own eyes out it was so bad, you could barely score inside the area apart from with headers, you could never get a one on one with the keeper and the game was just so unrealitically compact, you could never get a decent counter attack, and as for their gimmicks, god they're awful, they market them as if they're revolutionarry but you just don't notice them. Then they go saying how off the ball is the most important thing in Football, bollocks! And then this year it was 'fist touch is what makes a player great' Bull****! Stop trying to con us with your marketing techniques, we're all dumbass Americans who'll belive what you say, we can work things out you know! They just use the name and think they can just get away with making bad game after bad game just because it's got the word FIFA on the box, the next FIFA game I buy will be made by KONAMI(H) :D :f***: :hump:

the graphics in PES4 are so much better than FIFA. have u ever noticed that the players in FIFA dont have shoulders!!! wtf is that? and i remember playing FIFA 2000. using manchester united. beckham would take the corner, the goalie will run out and punch it to the exact same spot everysingle time and keane would b there to score an easy goal.

I just have to put my 2 cents in also. I never played PES until this year and I was a fan of the fifa series and actually bought 2005. After playing it for about 2 frustrating weeks, I realized how tired I was of playing the same scripted game over and over, sure it has all the licenses and a huge modding base but the game just lacks realism and replay value. The goals are almost always scored the same way and don't even get me started on the pathetic most unrealistic corner kicks ever. Why can you only kick the ball to 3 or 4 guys. This has been my major complaint about Fifa for years and they have never changed it. So I quit playing and after about a month of withdrawall I noticed the PES series and began checking out the forums and reviews. Sure the game does not have all the licenses but it sure delivers an amazing game on the field. At first I was not blown away by the game but then I started to do the training and soon realised I was no longer playing an EA game where it's all about smashing buttons at a certain time. Sure the new right stick control is a big improvement but it does not fix the rest of the problems EA have never bothered to fix. They just update the rosters every year and add a feature or 2 for good measure. Needless to say I am a full convert and would never even waiste my time on a fifa game as PES is 1000 times better and more realistic. Not to mention the kick-a** modding community which have made the game even more realistic. It scares me to think that EA has already monopolized american football with their crappy Madden game and now it looks like baseball and other sports may follow soon. EA=lazy.... they just dissappoint me year after year.

On FIFA you have the little crosshair to put the ball, so at the end is very easy to score.

On PES is as simple as: the center of the screen is where you put the ball that centering left to right, to center the ball up and down the power of the shoot the powerfull the higher the ball is going, after that with the PAD (or keyboard) when the power is charging you push it to the left (with a right-footer) is going to take a curve to the left if you push it to the right is lot harder to the right-footer to make a curve to the right.

Just make it your self in real life, and you will see that PES is very like "real soocer game", FIFA is just to "straight" everything is so well programmed that you can score in 10min like 10 goals!!! just for one team (tell me if this is not true) in PES you can have at least 2 goals for both teams that's because that is the SOCCER LIFE!.

Try to play a real soccer game 2 teams, 22 guys and 1 ball and you will see

I Played every Fifa since '98, and believe me, the first time i played PES4 I thought "This is impossible to play, let's go back to EA" but just two days later i played ONLY PES4 and one month later i uninstalled FIFA. Yes, EA's menu and soundtrack are the best, but just look at the gameplay! I can't think of playing again Fifa, PES4 really is realistic soccer and FUN! :rockman:

Once when I was playing Fifa, I thought there was an angel on the field but no, it was just Crespo. His hairband looked like a freaking halo above his head it was so badly done. EA must have let their 5 year old sons or something do the skins for the players. Geez...

You don't know what you are talking about...

Graphics are stonage...heck no..there is hemi light that simulate GI, shadow, hemi shadow, specularity etc. May be you are talking about the turf texture that 'some' of the stadium got (you limited with).

The player can't run? press R2 or faster R1..or faster R1 + tap directonal button...or faster R1... then with R2 diagonal.

I am a rock & metal fan, too. But honestly in FIFa there is a variety of sogns and styles (some just terrible) that PES4 unfortunately doesn' t have. About the graphics I think that PES4 ingame is really better (and realistic) but the menus could be simpler and more modern...

People must be a total retards if the can't figure out how the PES menus work :)

Are people really that lazy? All you have to do is to check the menus and see how they work.

All I'm saying is when somebody comes from 7 years of Fifa (like me) it takes a bit to take confidence with PES menus... You can change every single aspect of the game, and it's not so easy at the beginning. :crazyboy:

Anyway, once you have learned, it's easy. But please, i understand that the PC version is similar (almost the same) to the console one, but when I want to write a name let me use the keyboard and not the joypad to navigate the screen keyboard! Only a bit more user friendly, that's all I'm asking. :)

Granted, Fifa has the advantage of better commentary and official licences,but the gameplay can`t compare to PES. FIFA gameplay seems almost linear and the A.I is very predictable.

PES Kicks FIFA`s ass,then checks for the boot marks. :D

To be honest, i have to agree with surfy...
The menu,s as well as the gameplay graphics do look too Retro and arcade like.
It doesn,t look much different now, to when i first played ISS Pro.

But hold on... Menu,s don,t matter, it,s the gameplay that counts, Right ? .... :kader:
