View Full Version : Crash on startup
Quboid 29-11-2004, 08:44:PM PES4 crashes on startup for me. This happens with both the demo and the full game, and both when starting the executable (PES4.exe) and the the config program (Settings.exe).
When I load either program, nothing happens for about 2 seconds and then the error box "pes4.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience" and the send error report thing appears.
My specs:
Windows XP SP1
P4 3.0C
1GB RAM
Radeon 9800XT (Cat 4.10 and 4.12(beta) both tried).
This has happened on 2 seperate windows installations.

the demo doesn't even work so i doubt getting a new copy of the game will help. and i'm not gonna start screwing with my pc just for this game, all my other games work so i'll just go without this one, i have the ps2 version anyway.
umosay 12-12-2004, 12:47:PM Same problem here, somebody help!
Derseu 13-12-2004, 03:33:AM I had same problem all the time until made a few changes in CMOS setup utility. Try this... Go to BIOS setup, under "Advanced Chipset Features" you'll find two lines "System BIOS Cacheable" and "Video RAM Cacheable". Disable both! Selecting "Enabled" allows caching of system BIOS ROM at some memory address, resulting in better system performance. However, if PES_4 writes to this specific memory area, a system error may result. Since i disabled those two features game run w/o any problem almost for month.
Quboid 13-12-2004, 11:19:PM There are no options like that in my BIOS, nothing comparable at all.
Everlast 13-12-2004, 11:32:PM Maybe updating to DirectX 9c and your video card driver will help with the problem, you don't really want to mess with the BIOS if you not sure about it, just my 2cp :)
umosay 14-12-2004, 06:44:AM I had the same problem, try unplugging your gamepad if you have as it conflicts, as mine did!

I just wanted to say thanks for this advice. After spending an hour uninstalling, re-installing, updating drivers and generally messing about, on reading this thread I unplugged my Nostromo Speedpad n52 and bingo - problem solved.
Thanks again.
crazyrussin 31-12-2004, 01:52:AM I have another quetion about specs.
I got Radeon 9500 with latest drives and everything. The mathces run but only on very low resolution 640/480. After using RadLinker and setting everything to High Performance instead of graphics it went up a little but only to 720/480. Do u guys have any ideas what other settings can I change to get my resolution to 800/600 or so?????????? Is 9500 so weak it cannt support any higher??????? In theory it should run perfctly on 800/600, it is in fact not minimum but recomended.
I would really apreciate any help.
crazyrussin 31-12-2004, 06:16:AM So anyone want to help me on this one??
Derseu 01-01-2005, 06:31:AM There is another s...t happend to my PC. I just upgraded OS to WindowsXP SP2 and the game crashes all the time now??? WTF.
It's looks like we need some special PC to run game properly. Sweet Jesus!
bwaarp 13-01-2005, 05:55:AM any further ideas on this?, mine wont work either, i tried patching it to 1.1 but it says error 1628 (iirc) tried the demo and an iso copy, neither works...although pes3 works fine on the same machine.
bwaarp 18-01-2005, 08:06:PM just went out and purchased a copy of the game, and guess what...it crashes on startup. its a bit unusual as i dont have any problems with any other games including PES3, far cry and hitman contracts...they all work fine....dammit..pissed off now.
steady teddy 20-01-2005, 02:06:AM I just installed PES 4 and I get the IE error message but it only happens every other time I start the game. If I start PES 4, I will get an error message. If I try restarting again immediately afterward, the game will start. The error is only occurring at the first attempt to startup. Strange.:(
bwaarp 20-01-2005, 04:13:AM yaay...ive sorted my crashing out, i have a hercules dj console for a soundcard, i unplugged it from the usb and viola! problem sorted....just installed the wolf patch too....truly the best computer game ever just got even better
so it seems that the crashing is a usb issue...
