Sir Calumn 02-12-2004, 02:22:AM Yeah, Hakeem's blog is really good and I highly recommend it. He's the only one of us to actually get of his arse and put his reviews and thoughts onto a site :p
PS: I loves The Life and Death of Peter Sellers
Hakeem 02-12-2004, 12:28:PM just updated it. decided to go with Closer which saw tonight and was trully great.
hanek45 04-12-2004, 08:21:AM Great stuff there Hakkem (Y)(Y)(Y)
Tenes un error en la ultima linea (hablando sobre Alexander) :jambo:
"because I don't think that the movie will."
Hakeem 04-12-2004, 12:35:PM thanks :)
Hakeem 21-12-2004, 11:26:AM for those who care, my reviews for Life Aquatic, The Aviator, Spanglish and Lemony Snickets are up :p
coming soon: Beyond the Sea which I saw tonight and really liked.
Sir Calumn 21-12-2004, 06:22:PM I'm very interested in your Aviator review - that looked really good to me. As you say though, the fact Scorsese hasnt yet got an oscar is a travesty, but I do hope they dont just give it to him because of that and not on the merit of the film. I agree with what you say in the final passage about Jude Law, the same is true of Gwen Stefani I think who has been really highly billed but is only there for a couple of minutes - I hate it when films do that. I definately do not think GoNY was worth an oscar though, an OK but mediocre film. He should really have got something for Raging Bull or Taxi Driver, but I would have given it for Goodfellas - I mean, come on, Dances with Wolves won the oscars that year so the compitition must have been really bad. I will still go see The Aviator if I have time, but thanks for the warning anyway :p
Hakeem 21-12-2004, 09:12:PM I dont think GoNY shouldve have won for Best Pic, but for Best Director.
but yeah, I know Im in the minority about GoNY cause I absolutely loved it.
so far The Aviator hasnt gotten so many good reviews, and no awards from the critics yet save a few supporting for Blanchett.
and speaking of that, Sideways have won almost all the critics awards so far, but its pretty difficult that the Academy is going to give the Oscar to an Indie (:/)
Sir Calumn 22-12-2004, 01:28:AM Sideways isnt released here for another month, but I'm really looking forward to it, it looks superb. I would like to see more Indie films getting oscars, though I will be fully supporting Tarantino, Thurman and Kill Bill 2 this year. Kate Winslet is gonna win best actress for Eternal Sunshine for sure though.
Hakeem 22-12-2004, 10:55:AM hope she does. all the rest of the best actresses (with the exception of Thurman) are all old and playing period pieces (BEing Julia, Vera Drake).
I heardHIlary Swank in Million Dollar Baby was excellent but since she already won an Oscar is going to be pretty hard for her to win another one.
Sir Calumn 22-12-2004, 07:18:PM I havent seen Million Dollar Baby but I heard her performance was very good - Kate Winslet for best actress is about the only one which I reckon is a dead cert though. Vera Drake doesnt look particularly good to me, I do quite like Mike Leigh (All or Nothing is a superb film) but I just cant see anything special about this film, it's original, yes, but I dont see how it can be that interesting or developed. I will still see it though I expect.
