David Beckham remains Britain's wealthiest footballer in a list of the sport's richest people.

FOOTBALL'S RICHEST PLAYERS
1 David Beckham £65m
2 Dennis Bergkamp £37m
3 Michael Owen £30m
4 Robbie Fowler £28m
5 Alan Shearer £22m
6= Sol Campbell £20m
6= Rio Ferdinand £20m
6= Ryan Giggs £20m
6= Roy Keane £20m
10 Thierry Henry £18m

But the England midfielder is only 41st overall in the list of football's money men, published by FourFourTwo magazine.

Beckham's fortune is estimated at £65m, nearly twice as much as Arsenal's Dennis Bergkamp, whose £37m is enough to put him second among the players.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich tops the poll with an estimated £7.5bn - up £2bn from last year.

He is followed by Joe Lewis - a Barbados-based investor whose investment company ENIC owns Tottenham Hotspur and also retains an interest in Rangers - who is valued at £1.8bn.

Irish investor Dermot Desmond, Celtic's principal shareholder, is third with £850m, but there is no place in the top 100 for Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.

RICHEST MANAGERS
1 Sir Alex Ferguson £15m
2 Sven-Goran Eriksson £10m
3= Kevin Keegan £7m
3= Arsene Wenger £7m
5 David O'Leary £5m

Michael Owen is third among the players on the list - who are either British or British-based - while Robbie Fowler is fourth, the Manchester City striker having built on his fortune through property investment.

Only two managers make the top 100, with Sir Alex Ferguson top with an estimated £15m fortune.

England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson scrapes in at number 100 with £10m, while Arsene Wenger and Kevin Keegan are joint third with £7m.

The list was compiled by Philip Beresford and Dominic Prince, the authors who produce the Sunday Times Rich List.

A FourFourTwo spokesman said: "The list was compiled using established methods of calculating business values and individual wealth.

"But, naturally, there is an element of estimation because people are reluctant to open their bank accounts for examination."

Four Man United backers top rich list

Four of the top 10 richest people in English football own shares in its richest club, Manchester United, according to a newly-published football rich list.
The annual survey for Four Four Two magazine, compiled by the producers of the Sunday Times Rich List, offers further indication of United's financial muscle.

American business tycoon Malcolm Glazer, who has a 28.1% stake in the club and recently failed in a takeover bid, is sixth on the list with a personal fortune of £560million.

He comes in behind Celtic's principal holder Dermot Desmond (£850million), who also owns a one percent stake in United, but is ahead of rival shareholders John Magnier (eighth with £520million) and JP McManus (13th, £400million).

The fourth United shareholder in the top 10 is Scottish mining magnate Harry Dobson, a 6.5% stakeholder, who is equal 10th with £470million.

The list is headed once again by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, whose wealth has increased in the last year by £2billion, making him worth £7.5billion.

Birmingham owner David Sullivan and chairman David Gold are seventh and ninth with £550million and £495million respectively.

David Beckham is the richest player involved in the English game having amassed a fortune of £65million.

Arsenal's Dennis Bergkamp (£37million), England striker Michael Owen (£30million), Manchester City forward Robbie Fowler (£28million) and former England captain Alan Shearer (£22million) come in behind him.

Fowler has something like 250 houses in his property portfolio. He made a hell of allot on sponsership deals when he was in his prime at Liverpool, this guy used to be as big as Beckham is.

Owen is along the same sort of lines too, he brought a whole street for his family and he owns a load of other property. Also he makes a hansome amount of his boot deal with umbro and other sponerships

Abramovich makes £2b in one year.

The Russian oil tycoon’s fortune has jumped to £7.5 billion from £5.5 billion a year ago, when FourFourTwo compiled its inaugural list, or the equivalent of £3,800 a minute.

:eek:

And that's not counting his share in the Sibneft oil company. World Soccer magazine says it's worth £5.3 billion. He also owns half or Rusal (another oil company) and 26% of Russia's national airline. Plus, he's governor of Chukotka! (H)
