View Full Version : Are there players you guys are fans of (and not actually the club)?

Besides your own club, do you guys cheer for other clubs just cause of a specific player?

This is saying that your really a fan of the player rather than the club (like when he leaves the club, you could care less about it and suddenly find yourself a fan of the new club)

Just thought it was new to post of (instead of Clubs) players you actually follow.

For me Id have to say a few choices:

I got attached to the Mexican team: "Toluca" cause I think they have 2 of the best players ive ever seen (that could play in any league but are comfortable in Mexico: Jose Cardozo (Paraguay....THE Man).......and Vicente Sanchez (Uruguay)

But I bet once they leave I wont really care for those clubs.

Another example was Diego Forlan's run to Man U....I never really liked Man U at all but Forlan made them watchable until he left. Just hoping for him to get subbed in was enough tension for me :funny: :p

Other Favorite Players have to be: Saviola (Monaco), Chevanton (Monaco), Montero :rockman (Juventus), Pato Abondanzieri (Boca Juniors) <one of my fave goalies>, and Marcello Gallardo (one of players I grew up watching as a kid) (River Plate).

I usually am a fan of players and therfor their teams because Im from Brasil but I want to cheer for european competitions

Im a Palmeiras fan because Im from Brasil, and R9 is my fav, I love RC and Figo therefore I cheer for Madrid.....

its a funny way to look at it, but when you realize that clubs are only businesses then it makes them less appealing. Individuals are what make up a team, but business men lead a club.

I guess its kind of reverse

I have mad respect for Pavel Nedved. I have a Nedved Juventus jersey even though I'm not a huge supporter of the club. There are a few players like that. Jon Dahl Tomasson is obviously my f'n boy, but I have no feelings one way or the other about Milan. And I also like Figo a lot, but I hate Madrid.

Call me romantic but I disagree.

I think the club is more important than the players it has. I think every club represents some people and therefore it's like if every club has a spirit.

Players come and go, most of them only for money, but clubs always stay.

Yes, of course! And, there's nothing wrong with that.
Me being Peruvian, I have to foot for teams that have Peruvian players in them. For example Bayern has two (Pizarro and Guerrero), Aston Villas has Solano, PSV has Farfan, etc... I will cheer these teams on as long as they have these players.

I agree, Jari Litmanen was the man! I followed every team he played for, especially his glorious years at Ajax. Jari will always be one of my all time favorite players.

Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Patrick Vieira (Arsenal), Scott Parker (when he was at Charlton), Drogba (Chelsea) are a few of my favourite players. 3 of them are Chelsea players, 1 Arsenal player, and I'm a Manchester United fan :(

Elber and Effenberg during their Bayern days - Effenberg's steely determination and Elber's deadly finishing skills; I enjoyed watching Bayern play back then.

Giuly - no explanation necessary.

Morientes - Won me over with his performances for Monaco.

van Hooijdonk, Hakan Sukur (again... few years ago)

Puyol - Best defender in the world in my opinion.

Maldini - Legend

Canizares, Baraja, Aimar

Giovane Elber and Andriy Shevchenko

Giovane Elber - great personality on and off the field

Fernando Morientes - great player, too bad he plays for a club that prefers bigname players

Thierry Henry - I love to watch him

Ruud van Nistelrooy !!! :D since PSV!!! Best thing: he joined Man U! It was all perfect!

I'm a Beckham fan too, but I did not like him joining Real... hope he does well though, obviously

Also Litos, currently at Malaga... I don't even care if Malaga win or loose, as long as he does well, since he's a personal friend :D

i agree with you. I would only consider 1 or 2 clubs who "Sold their soul" ...Real Madrid and I dont know who else. I dont even look at Real Madrid as a Club anymore. (Real madrid magazines....comics....jerseys....cups......just all a business. Its worst....its like a cold hearted enterprize that has no idea how to run a football team....just throw money at everything. You know they Bought Beckham just to ensure full stadiums and so ppl can buy his jersey.)

Atleast Man U kept the Club "Feel" and actually is active in the community as FAns are active in the Club. The rest of the business just helps the club economically and I have no problem with that.

I love the small clubs worldwide
(especally England and Argentina) that are like 1 huge community. All build and paint the stadium....they come to the club meetings.....they help out and support their team.

But I believe that every team has to be a business....its just the way it is.....but as long as they dont screw up the sport...i wont mind.

Didier Drogba, one of the best player in Marseille ever but now he's in Chelsea...
