View Full Version : Top Twists
Callan 08-12-2004, 01:41:PM I just watched Saw. From what I have seen:
1. Usual Suspects, The
2. Sixth Sense, The
3. Village, The
4. Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back
5. Shawshank Redemption, The
6. Fight Club
7. Saw
8. Unbreakable
9. Se7en (Not really much of a twist)
10. Confidence
Apparently films that have good twists are:
Primal Fear
Citizen Kane
The Others
Matchstick Men
But I am yet to see these.
John_Arne_Riise 08-12-2004, 01:48:PM The Others with Nicole Kidman had a very clever twist at the end.

I hear it is like the sixth sense just no where near as good.
ronnifan9 08-12-2004, 02:38:PM saw....has to be at the top of my list among with unusual suspects.....but my favorite has to be MOMENTO
Callan 08-12-2004, 03:45:PM Memento didn't blow me away at all... I didn't see the big fuss with that film.
The thing I liked about Saw was it was clever, the thing I didn't was that the *killer* was basically a no-body until the end of the film...
I mean, the usual suspects, he is right in front of us, the sixth sense is so obvious but goes so unrecognised, the village is tricky, as it is meant to be, star wars is shocking, fight club is clever... saw is good, but when you see the killer you are like... ok who the hell is that? Then you see flashbacks and you realise... but they needed the killer to be a character a bit mroe involved... but it was still well thought out.
PhiLLer 08-12-2004, 05:13:PM Matchstick Men has a brilliant twist, didn't see it coming at all.
Primal Fear is not so much a twist as it is a bit of a surprise.

Sir Calumn 09-12-2004, 12:15:AM I havent seen very many, but this would be my toplist from what I have:
It's a convention defying top 11 as I couldnt whittle it down.
[Spoilers Coming Up]
1. Citizen Kane "It's his sledge!"
2. The Usual Suspects "It's the cripple!"
3. Dead Man's Shoes "He's dead!"
4. Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back "He's his father!"
5. L.A. Confidential "The Police-Chief's a crime boss!"
6. The Shawshank Redemption "He didnt do it, but he still dug a tunnel!"
7. Fight Club "They're the same person!"
8. The Conversation "It was them who killed him!"
9. The Great Escape "They all die!"
10. Miller's Crossing "He didnt change sides!"
11. The Seventh Seal "Death won the chess game"
I bet I've missed some though...
Also, I have done a list of the top 5 most surprising deaths, ie people you dont expect will die but do:
1. Marian Crane (Janet Leigh) in Psycho
2. Randell MacMurphy (Jack Nicholson) - One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
3. Luke (Paul Newman) - Cool Hand Luke
4. Captain American and Billy (Hopper and Fonda) - Easy Rider
5. Everyone - Dr Strangelove

I tried my best not to read what is quoted there, or the last 5 that you wrote down.
But good stuff, I will see the ones that I have not.
PhiLLer 09-12-2004, 05:28:PM Ah bollocks! I read the spoilers:(
John_Arne_Riise 09-12-2004, 11:09:PM I seen Saw tonight. And its fair to say the ending did have quite a twist to it. But the movie in general was nothing more than average i guess.
Sir Calumn 10-12-2004, 12:20:AM LMAO sorry. Hopefully the spoilers dont give too much away.

Not really... only the entire twist... that's why I tried not to read it ;)
Sir Calumn 10-12-2004, 11:29:PM Sorry, I thought I made most of them too vague, apart from the one's everyone knows already :(

TROD. They escape, they get rounded up, they get shot- or atleast that's how I remember it :p
no they dont, 2 escape, so all of them dont die.
TROD.
Sir Calumn 13-12-2004, 03:48:AM Oh well, most died then. It was still a good twist goddamit
$teauA 23-12-2004, 12:19:PM Citizen Kane
Matchstick Men
Both had really good twists, didn't expect either of them. Isn't Citizen Kane rated as the best movie of all time?
Sir Calumn 23-12-2004, 11:41:PM Yup, its in the top five of about every critics toplist and every public poll ever done - and deservably so.
Victorious 28-12-2004, 04:32:PM Saw had a great twist. Shawshank redemption too. Best prison movie ever.

The twist in that movie was HORRIBLE. STUPID. CRAP! So retarded. I hated it.

Hakeem 28-12-2004, 09:02:PM Prison Films? anybody seen Animal Factory (Y)(Y)(Y)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0204137/
Sir Calumn 28-12-2004, 09:29:PM Never even heard of it, looks good though, I never knew Steve Buscemi had done any directing.
