Maybe they could add it as an extra but a whole game based on it would be a waste of time

Well being the ref is def a nice extra IMO, because if you faver one team then you could look the other way for them. I mean just think of it being a ref for a league yea it may get boring but what if your playing with a friend he's playing the game and your the ref. Now you could either favor him, be against him or do it 50/50. Just a thought

That's actually a pretty good idea. It would work pretty well especially in multiplayer like he said. But if I was the ref to give my friend a hard time I would purposely call stuff against him. If they did do it, though, there would definately need to be an anti cheat mode or something

Well look at this way, it gives you a diffrent perspective to the game, in gran turismo 4 theres a "B-Spec Mode" where you dont actually race the car but tell the driver to try and pass the car or drive more aggressive and when to pit etc.. But by no means this isnt the MAIN reason to buy the game and it wasnt there main focal point only a nice add on. Now in the ref mode it doesnt mean they'll have it for online play.

Exibition Ref match:

Here they'll be a few option,
comp vs comp (you as ref)
comp vs human (you as ref)
human vs human (you as ref, 3rd controller)


The REF Mode:

Here you'll have a career mode were your only ref and not be able to control a team. You'll pick the league you want to start off in or the computer will give you a choice in lower leagues but to me picking any league would make it better. Now you'll start off by referring just regular matches, you'll have a meter showing how well you ref and this will depend on, how many cards you give out, how many cards you give for like stupid call (like calls that dont seam right or the league board thinks you handled it bad) etc.. If you do a good job they ask you to Ref the leagues championship match, then if you do good there and keep a nice record they'll have you to ref like the uefa cup matches (possible championship), Champions League matches (possibly championship match) etc.. Now you begin to build up your ref status as being the best ref in the world. You also may be called for international matches to ref. This could go on and on and maybe have a max of a 20 year career.

Now whats the benifit of this mode, well not only do you control a team in the regular career mode to be the best team but in this Ref mode you'll work towards have a great fan support, and you work towards beig the best ref around by winning medals or such, Maybe by referring certain events you unlock special things like some amazing looking stadiums or diffrent ref kits etc.. I mean the possibilities are endless and if they were to add sometihng like this, there is always room to inprove but if they add it they'll have to make it absolutly right the first time.

Now this doesnt mean you HAVE to like this idea or play it at that, but to me its something diffrent, and yet another way to look at the beautiful game, not only from a coach or player or even a fans point of view but also the refs point of view aswell.

Hey thanks, you just got to sit down and explain what you mean like I did.

I personally think this is a nice feature to add because of the fact that if you want to get away from playing with teams and typical career mode, this is the answer, to me its very inovative if they implement it correctly.

Now Ive been thinking how you would gain Fan support. Well if you keep the game 50/50 lets say then the fans will be pleased, and if you dont give out many Red cards the fans will also be pleased aswell seeing how your not a harsh Ref, BUT if you dont give out a red card and a player got injured lets say then the majority of the fans will turn on you. This part is a little tricky on how you'll become the greatest Ref.

Now if anyone has any suggestions lets hear them....

i don't think they're talking about career mode man, they mean like if two people are playing and a third person could be the ref, or P1 vs Computer and P2 is the ref.

it mite b critical of me to say this, but i think it would be impossible to get a mode like this sorted, graphic wise . Wud u control the referee and see him through first person perspective ( more professional) or using the default fifa camera, the same one for playing matches ?
i think it would certainly be fun, trying to improve a 'reputation' level, locally, nationally and contintentally . controls would be easy , maybe the shoulder buttons on consoles could be the commands , like foul, play on , yellow card, red card.

haha that would be cool.......they should put in a feature where we can throw stuff on the field & injure the players :p. But seriously the ref mode is indeed a good side idea. Maybe career part is too extreme but being a ref in an exhibition match would be cool especially when playing with fiends. :kader:

Well heres the kicker, this thread isnt about Gameplay, that what ruins the forums is that in every single thread you guys talk about the same thing. This thread is about a REF MODE, not GAMEPLAY.

Now im not insisting EA to make this there main focus, nor add this to there game, Im just giving my ideas for this mode if they were to consider it. Just saying "oh this mode is dumb" doesnt help much just explain why you wouldnt like it or have it in. Just stay on topic and this forum would be a great one. Just b*tching about something and saying EA will never do this or that doesnt help anything. If you feel that EA wont update there game then why bother posting. Just let the people who enjoy the game post here.

Now yes gameplay should be updated but theres a place where you could talk about that, we dont need every single thread to turn into a "lets update the gameplay" discussion (sp).

Plain and simple stay on topic and everyone will be happy.

if u wanna be a ref why don;t u just sign up and be a real ref, sure u would get to send off 5 madrid players to win barca the match just lyk that but real life is easier and better, i don;t think fifa needs this

Thanks if EA is really reading these forums, I just want them to know what people's ideas are for makign the game for the people and trying out diffrent ideas. This is almost like the B-Spec mode in Gran Turismo 4, where instead of actually racing, your telling the driver when ti pit stop and when to race more aggressive and when not to. its just a diffrent way to look at the sport. Now with this mode its a way to look at the sport and play it through the eyes of a Ref, trying to pay attention when its a good slide tackle and when it isnt. When its a handball and when it isnt etc.. It may not be super duper fun for some people but its something diffrent. Now like I said I dont expect EA to use this Idea its just that an Idea. Something that maye turn out good if they were to really put effort into it.

Hehe EA never hires guys with bright ideas. They need slow guys who take years to come up with ideas to maximise profits :D. So i guess you dont quallify Rport3 :p
