View Full Version : Boro - away kit "tidied up"... plus some waffle :p

Been very busy with sex, drugs & rock'n'roll (yes it's a tough job but one of the perks is beer :p)

Got a lil time off so I decided to clean up my boro away kit and post it here.

My first ever effort (the home kit) was subject to a bit of p!ss taking but boys will be boys and I wasn't discouraged (yeah it was sh!te but I was able to see where I could improve). This is my 2nd effort and it is a tidied up version of one I posted last week - there was the odd minor mistake which I never spotted till I actually watched some archive footage of the lads. Once again I'm going to make a "bold" statement (hehe) and say it's the most accurate I've seen - the others I've seen have obvious mistakes. I ain't saying that to get anyone's ego boiling over ;) What I am saying is if I had seen a better one before now I wouldn't even bother posting and also if someone does post a better one - I will gladly bang it in MY kitserver folder cos I ain't that up myself I'd settle for the lesser one.

Once again I would encourage others to have a bash at making kits even if they haven't any idea. I had none a couple of weeks back and it didn't take long at all to pick it up. It's just basically colouring in. :D

I used paint shop pro - I coulda used photoshop but couldn't be @rsed learning 2 proggies.

I started with a clean kit template. I created separate transparent overlays for the red and blue parts (you can cut out bits you don't want to colour and also add bits as well). I used these overlays to add the colours and also to select areas underneath the colours on the template. With the areas selected I was able to adjust the brightness and contrast individually for each colour - as mentioned previously the colours are transparent overlays so the contrast etc has to be applied to the surface of the actual kit template. Then I googled the logos & badge and resized, adjusted etc and pasted onto the kit. I also did some general drawing as well as some tidying up with the pen & brush. I saved the bmp and processed it (adjusted properties, opaque & transparency) for use in the kitserver with Graphic Studio 04 11 11.

Now I know my help is quite general but in order to be more precise I would have to get into the realms of a paint shop pro tutorial and you need to use the proggy to get to know it (besides I ain't a guru :p). The fact that you are making a kit makes no difference. You should experiment and see what the program can do. Everything can be reversed as well. You can even scribble on a kit roughly (I suggest making a layer you can turn on & off for this but it's not absolutely necessary) and see how it looks in game to give you more idea as to how objects & colours appear on it. That will help you when you come to more precise work is involved. Look at other kits to help you get to grips with stuff like the collar and how the different parts join together. Once you get going you can even start messing with overlayed textures to get even closer to that dream shirt!

I do wish I could help more and I apologise to those who find this is no real good to them at all but I'm sure if I can do it then many others can.

If the bmp doesn't show copy the link into your browser and keep trying (sorry but it's lycos and I'm too lazy to sign up elsewhere). I've also upped the gif which you can convert but in that case use Graphic Studio to set all colours to opaque and just the green one to transparent.

sorry but that isn't very good!

you need to do the colours on the loser layers then have the white kit as the top layer with multiply property. Also go to brandsoftheworld for logos and resize the errea using the resize option. Put the badges in a layer above the colours, but below the multiply. Then the very top layer should be the bright green and other transparency bits.
Use the draw tool to mke lines and shapes with antialiased edges.
have a look at mine for eg, even though it has many obvious mistakes

Don't apologise m8 - I think the sharing of ideas, tips and information is all good. I did use the line tool as well btw :S. The badge on the shorts is under the blue layer - I just realised... but in any case - I'd have to still say it ain't that bad bearing in mind my experience.

Thanks very much for the tips - I think a few could benefit. I dunno when I'll get round to messing again - You will prolly have fixed yours by then tho and like I said before I'd rather have a better one - Not asking btw - just if it happens... in the mean time I'm gonna have a bash at playing the game a bit more.

I won't be doing anything to mine as I think it is ok.
I'll wait for your better version as mine isn't good enough apparently

OK jim - I took on board your points and once again adjusted - I cut a hole in the blue layer to show the badge on the shorts... (hehe never mind the quality - feel the width lol) adusted some lines, logos etc and the job is about as good as I'm gonna get it - cos frankly I'm dead happy with it :)

If ppl mainly want a kit that has been constructed with real panache and an impressively polished bmp then they must use yours jim. If they want the team "in game" to look like they are wearing the boro away kit with the correct colours accurately placed etc. then they should use mine ;) I'm a boro fan m8. If it was another team I wouldn't give a sh!t ROFLMFAO. Now mine still ain't perfect but I'd have to say it's the better one. I have your other 3 boro kits btw - all excellent. I do appreciate the time taken and am very happy with them. So don't feel unappreciated. Next time you're down tescos get yourself some carslberg specials and I'll give you the money when I see ya (I assume you are a real "biker" and you are old enough btw).

Also, I don't mind if ppl want to use yours jim - from me, no tears or quips about not being appreciated or feeling my efforts are not good enough. My images and discussion are given absolutely freely with no obligation for anyone to say anything in the way of thanks, praise or any sort of gratitude whatsoever. You are not restricted in saying totally negative stuff either. Call it sh!t if you like - as you can see a lil criticism doesn't hurt and actually has helped improve things (imho). I didn't do this to win prizes or acclaim, or to be the best - else I woulda really tried... None of that stuff's important.

I did it cos I wanted the correct away strip, could have a bash and it was quite fun. If just one boro fan out there enjoys it as well then that's a bonus :)

the new gif for those who can't get the bmp above....

I disagree about accuracy, yours looks brown and also I'm sure the front of your collar is the wrong colour!! plus the short stripes are not like any pic I have seen.
I made mine from in game pics so am interested as to the whereabouts of these inaccuracies you mention and I agree that criticism can only lead to improvements but I feel your claims to 'accurate in game experience' are somewhat short of the mark IMO, but it's up to the guys out there to choose the kit they prefer.

hehe - lmfao - we getting there eh... yep - I buggered the shorts up (from a training photo in a match proggy - my bad) collar I ain't certain of yet cos the pics I got defo look blue but there are some I can't tell now so I'll look again (I have pics of various shirts of the same style used by the club and the colurs differ slightly). Your sleeves are defo wrong m8, they don't have the stripe under the arm - it's all one colour ;) As for the colour - I just watched footage and the colours in game - I disagree... the "red" in game is fine but maybe the blue could be darker.

I will tidy mine up of course when I get a min but to be honest - now that I see the shorts - yours ain't that far off. I think if the sleeves were right I'd have it ;)

Cheers man - u get those C-Specials down yer neck ;)

nice one jim - I'd gone so far with mine - to swap the collar and shorts wasn't a big deal and now as far as I can see - although there are differences both would be fine for the boro :) ... tho I do prefer the shirt front & shoulders on mine if I'm honest. I dunno whether to darken the red on mine a bit more... but I'll not worry too much about it. Yours is good enough if ppl want the kit.

If I'd seen that updated kit before I started mine I woulda been perfectly happy - but in any case I enjoyed tweaking mine and learned a few things - cheers :rockman:

Might be a while before I do another 4ker tho hehe!

The colours on your kits are poor..

When you do the colour make the layer type "multiply"..thats the best imo..

OK - tbh I didn't actually know wtf the multiply function was but I managed to find it and have now adjusted mine yet again.

Anyone reading this thread for the first time might think the "banter" doesn't make any sense but if you understand that I have resubmitted my kit about 4 times throughout the discussion (and jim has also changed his), it might make some sense.

Thanks very much to jim in particular, and also to the other guys who passed comments. My kit wouldn't be anywhere near as good if it wasn't for them. I know it ain't perfect but it's a LOT closer than yesterday - I reckon if I nick jim's socks and paste them into mine it'd look better LOL (his are right btw - the broad band in mine was actually meant to look like 2 bands were merging - artistic license hehe).

I love to learn - just wish I had more time...

that is much better mate, here's to more improvement. :D

PS I told you to use multiply in my first reply ;)
