View Full Version : Roger Ebert's Best and Worst of 2004
Hakeem 21-12-2004, 11:29:AM I dont care what Ebert thinks about movies, cause lots of times I love movies he hates and viceversa, but he's known as the only Movie Critic in the US capable of making people go see a movie just cause he liked it (or not go if he hated it).
here it is:

7. White Chicks
8. Resident Evil: Apocalypse
9. The Whole Ten Yards
10. The Village
from his Worst list, Troy is my 15th film, and The Girl Next Door, Alexander and The Village are in my 20s :p
check the link to know his special mention awards as well as his favorite documentaries.
Callan 21-12-2004, 01:17:PM What's the big deal with this guy? Ebert this, Ebert that... I have never read one of his reviews and frankly, going by that list I don't really want to.
:kader: :kader:
The Village should be one of the best, from what I have seen this year anyway. Kill Bill 2 was good, and Eternal Sunshine should be in there as well.
John_Arne_Riise 21-12-2004, 03:16:PM Well i havent seen a lot of those movies on his list, but 2 of some of my favourites this year are in his worst. The Grudge and Resident Evil.
Sir Calumn 21-12-2004, 06:12:PM Dont think much of that list.... and I dont think much of anyone who publishes a list like that before 2004 is actually over. I will do one when I have seen Garden State, Napoleon Dynamite, House of Flying Daggers etc.
Hakeem 21-12-2004, 09:07:PM well, 2004 is probably done for him already. and yeah, if you dont know him then you cant care about him, Im just saying cause he's the biggest critic here in the US.
in case you might know him, he's one line "Thumbs Up" or "Big Thumbs Up" are in most DVD covers (if he gave the movie the thumbs up)
Sir Calumn 22-12-2004, 01:26:AM LOL, the Barry Norman of the US I guess. I suppose critics see the films about a week before the release so he has probably seen everything which is to be released to the public in 2004.
Vagegast 22-12-2004, 03:13:AM People listen to him because he's been doing this for a while and because he's simple (the two thumbs up thing).
Sadly to say, like Hakeem said, there are people who go to blockbuster and if they see the "Two thumbs up" quote on the cover, yeah they'll rent it.
SlayerDeuS 22-12-2004, 03:20:AM He's quite possibly the most reknown movie critic in America is all............
Virgo 22-12-2004, 03:58:AM those picks are just hilarious
Callan 22-12-2004, 12:32:PM And one more thing, anyone who thinks Alien Vs Predator is better than the Village has problems. :kader: that movie sucked shocking.
Sir Calumn 22-12-2004, 07:24:PM The Village was alright, not great, but alright whereas Alien vs Predator was a steaming pile of.......
Digitarius 23-12-2004, 02:05:AM Aliens vs Predator is brainless, yes, but it's a good laugh, if only to laugh at how stupid the plot is.
The idea was great. All we wanted was to see two alien lifeforms square it off and blast the living daylights out of each other. But instead we have a pile of pathetic scientists crawling through dark tunnels. Not enough action for what was a simple, brainless, action 'thriller'.
House of Flying Daggers was excellent, much better than the lacklusture storyline of Hero. Ending was naff but I suppose I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Resident Evil: Apocalypse was awful. Terrible storyline and the action wasn't exactly impressive either. Still, Milla Jovovich looked mighty fine...
Hakeem 23-12-2004, 12:16:PM yep, Milla's nipples were huge :hump:
bjmenge 25-12-2004, 01:13:PM I've only seen The Girl Next Door and Kill Bill Volume 2, off of that list. I've learned not to really care what any movie critic says because, most of the time, movies that I end up really liking get awful reviews. :p
yoyo913 25-12-2004, 01:19:PM What a sh!tty list...

problem with that list (well, not a problem actually) is that its not comparable with Eberts cause you guys get lots of movies after the new year so half of the movies in those 2 lists are from 2003 and they probably havent seen all the movies released here in December which is when studios release their Oscar hopefuls
$teauA 27-12-2004, 08:30:AM The Girl Next Door was great, screw that dude.

Luckily for me, I cant remember most of what I saw at the beginning of 2004, so my personal favs probably will be comparable with Americans :p
mannyb28 08-01-2005, 02:22:AM white chicks

pasion1 12-01-2005, 09:34:AM **** roger ebert. He gave Troy the worst movie of the year.
