If you get a free kick right on the edge of the opponent's box, here is a little tip:

Align your player so he faces the empty side of the net — a player with decent curling wouldn't hurt also.

Then just tap the long pass button as little as you can.

If you're lucky, it'll go straight into the net leaving the goalkeeper no chance of saving it :)
