I got the first PM today with the following question:
Originally asked by Larry
Maybe its time to make a SG club for FM ?"

And I responded that I would start thinking about it soon. Well, now's pretty soon.

I was thinking about creating a team with just about completely random players, as there would be more fun in playing with a random team than always having this same kid scoring heaps...

The only set things would be name, birthdate, nationality, position, current ability, and maybe one or two boosted stats.
Potential ability would be, depending on which league the team will start in, distributed over two or three of the random categories. Current would be set depending on the selected category for the player and his age.

Nothing decided, though. I'd like everyone's input.

Also... my MSN is out again, so anyone who has a good site to have the rar-file uploaded, at 26.9MB...

Larry

Maybe SG Downloads might host it? Or an FM site if we asked them nicely?

so it isnt gonna be like SGCM then? e.g. we have our own names but dont neccasarily see how good we all are (randomly generated as you mentioned in one of the other threads)

well im up for it, though obviously last time i was mod, so looks like this time my potential is gonna be down here with the peasants :p :p

Anyone can apply, that was the rule when we had this for CM4...

rpvankasteren
06-01-2005, 06:24:AM
It still is. The 3 groups of potential would be distributed according to activity in the FM forum. (maybe I should make it CM5 forum, that way the CM5 forum might get a boost :p)

My idea is that one states what position one wants to play, and which two stats to excell in (start at 15?). Then the creator of the patch and the AI will do the rest.

How to do the distribution of the current ability though...
If you are, say, 25-ish, you should get ~95% of the potential, but how to do that without removing the randomness...
I'll test the player randomisation AI tomorrow a little... maybe.

Tom

and the mods get higher potential :( :(

Current Ability, well, I think if we all gonna have random stats, CA also must be random, or, all the players having the same CA, talking about Potential, if all the players has this random, it would be better according to the fact that we'll not like to play with the same players always :p

Well, hope this will go well :)

Cool, but I'll try SG first, they did host the previous versions as well. Just have to split up the file for e-mail, and then have them put it back together.

Oh, and btw, Nidoking and others also, don't sign up for it yet. The format still needs to be confirmed. :p

Hmm like NIDOKING said are all the current ability going to be same or will that be random as well? Also you said we are gonna have 2 ability that will be 15, is that only for technicel ability or for physical ability too? Like say if i wanted passing and shooting to be 15 but i also wanted acceleration and stamina to be 15 is that allowed?

:) That would mean 6 groups of potential... the difference would be humongous in game :(
I could just stick Dragan and Ahmed in with the other posters, that would be ok, 4 groups. :p

How about:
- FM/CM Mods and extremely high quality posters FM/CM-forum
- Other mods (including supermods) Regular posters FM/CM-forum
- Casual posters FM/CM-forum
- Others

The stadium will cost some maintenance, but I'm keeping the budget tight. How about £1M balance, and no transfer fee?

Yeah, good point, Rob, but don't sign up just yet.

Your preferred foot should indeed be free from the other things. R/L/Both, whatever.

Just no more than two sides (R/L/C) of a position, and only one line (GK/D/DM/M/AM/F).

Are we sure that its going to be in the English leagues? personally i think we should start in league 2.

Is the name definatly going to be SGFM?

however, as doggy quite rightly says, i think we should probably leave it for a bit while Ruud sorts it all out.

Good thing we're having SG for FM... personally I like the Soccergaming United name...
I also like the new system for ability and for the stats but I'm not so sure about the money... I don't know about others (since it's basically only me who posted at the old SGU thread for Cm03/04) but I don't sign other players even if I have a billion pounds so a bigger budget would help keeping the most promising players at the club...
Something else... I believe some people here on the boards already have their "player" on the game due to the picture contest promoted by SI/SEGA... would that cause any problems?

Tom
06-01-2005, 11:19:PM
meh not really, youd just have two Ruud van kasterens running around... a horrid thought really :p

rpvankasteren
06-01-2005, 11:21:PM
I was just testing that. I don't think so, but as new users with the name of one of the face-in-the-game people get the corresponding pic by default. Just checking...

The main problem with earlier versions though, was that they were too easy. I'm finding this problem again now. If someone is 25 (ie. me), he'll have to get a high current to correspond to his potential. so "if" I have -9 potential, I have to get 160 current as well, pretty good for league 2 (Div 3, remember) :S

We'd better start in the Championship, that would increase the difficulty, while keeping the ability problem low.

Of course, there's not so many ancient people like me here (right, Alex? :p), so it would only affect a couple of players.

True that... ideally I'd like it to be challenging enough in a low league but with the players growing up to be champions league quality... maybe start everyone as 16 yrs old? or would it be impossible even then?

rpvankasteren
06-01-2005, 11:30:PM
It would be possible. I could just start everyone at 0 current. Totally random.
But stamina problems do arise then. And you can still only sub 3 times.

Plus everyone below 17 has unprotected contracts...

Tom
06-01-2005, 11:35:PM
i dont think we should have anyone under 17 personally.

By the way Ruud, i have sneaky feeling i wont be able to use it, cos of my consantly updating beta patches :kader: which is rather annoying

TROD.

rpvankasteren
06-01-2005, 11:37:PM
I don't think so either, takes away a lot of the personality.

Why couldn't you use it? Doesn't SI want to know if unofficial updates mess up the new patch? :p

Kibe Kru
06-01-2005, 11:40:PM
Stamina would be an issue but it can be overcome by rotating and stuff... unprotected contracts are a bit worse though... is 17 the minimum? would it make it too little time for the players to fully evolve?
Depending on how many people we get we could make a future transfer system (or am I getting too crazy?)... like we have the casual posters and others at the start of the game, get the big posters at the end of the first season and the stars (1st category) at the end of the second season.. until then, have them playing at some minor clubs or their fav club and give SG lots of money to bring them after a while... unfortunately it'd mean some people wouldn't see them in the game at the start... (but they can't really complain as they're gonna be the stars of the game?)

Tom
06-01-2005, 11:51:PM
no i dont agree with that idea, it would be too hard to do and probably wouldnt work in most instances. No i think cos you're only editing the DB then the patches might not effect it :rockman:

I think the limit should be 17

I have another idea: give boosted stats out according to the group.

1: 4 stats

07-01-2005, 12:01:AM

So.. why is it more demanding than if you use like 5 leagues??

rpvankasteren
08-01-2005, 06:23:AM
Well, you can have a larger db-setting like this. This means opposition will be stronger in a game like this. Also, after 3/4 seasons, progression will become slower no matter what, so starting higher up does mean faster gameplay.

Thought of another reason: If we are to be at Conference National level at the start of the game, we'd never get beyond League Two, and if we are to get beyond League Two, the players will turn out so good, we'll be FA Cup winners in the third season.

Explain me a bit, I'm a bit confused :p

I suppose I'm on group 3, if not correct me, and I'm 19

So, according to that table, I'll be a player with CA91 and PA-7

If I guess well, the system is great, if not, explain me please :crazyboy:

BTW, could you put the variables for -7 as you explained -9?

It'll be a good idea if you explain everyone of this, so, clumsy people like me could understand better (H) :crazyboy:

I've been around for like 3 years since CM 4. So that's three versions of the game. And I post here often too.

How many actual people are we expecting?

rpvankasteren
08-01-2005, 06:42:PM
I dunno, maybe 20-30, if we keep all the info in the FM and CM boards.

Depends on if some supermod/admin is willing to post a board-wide announcement (we'd have a lot of group 1 people that way :))
We'd get at least twice as many sign ups that way.

Deutschland
08-01-2005, 06:44:PM
If we do hit it big, we could fill up reserves and the youth team (H) (yes I realise that would put me in the youth team. But I would play myself anyway :D)

adj137
08-01-2005, 06:44:PM
but then wouldn't there be like people from the fifa forums who've never played FM signing up, and then i'd have to play with them in the game:(

rpvankasteren
08-01-2005, 06:48:PM
So? They'd be really bad, compared to the likes of us, so you can sell them on.

Deutschland
08-01-2005, 06:48:PM
Thats true. I say we keep it to this forum, for the sake of the whole idea of playing with people you know ;)

Mm... but wemight aswell just chuck random players in then..because they mean about as much as some f**king FIFA fans do.:o :p

rpvankasteren
08-01-2005, 06:57:PM
The random players would be the gray ones you cannot sell... :brow:

Deutschland
08-01-2005, 07:04:PM
Nah, I mean, if some guy on the FIFA forums decides to sign up, he will be just like some random player in the team (NOT the gray ones, the REAL ones.)

Ah..damnit.. :(

Ok. A FIFA Fan you dont know/care about or A Random player you dont know/careabout? Not much difference :(

rpvankasteren
08-01-2005, 07:15:PM
The AI won't assign any contracted randoms to teams, though. You're stuck with the people who signed up, and greyed out filler players. Might as well fill all the squads.

One thing: I can't assign people to first team/reserves/youth team. The AI does that.

Deutschland
08-01-2005, 07:21:PM
Meh, never mind, this is going nowhere :p

Anyway. Will you wait and see how many people sign up from this forum first?

I think it should be restricted to people who have posted in here. At least.. once or something, who actually have the game. I mean, we'll have enough people to fill two teams with subs, with just people on this forum, don't you think?

Wait, sorry, I'll let you do your thing (H)

rpvankasteren
08-01-2005, 07:24:PM
If the sign up thread gets opened on monday, announcements could be posted on wednesday. That way regular posters will get first shot at signing up. We'll have 40 max sign ups (more will be too many), and people of group 1 have reserved spots.

Deutschland

I've been thinking for a sec:

18x first team
16x reserves
16x youths

50 total, so we'll have 50 spots, not 40. If we do get that many people, I'll adjust the budget accordingly.

doggy_j5
08-01-2005, 07:42:PM
do we really need 50?
i mean, we could just have 40
and give us money to steal all the good younguns on the game, cos (assuming out reputation is crap) they'd probly b the only ppl we could sign
and personally i like signing the youngstars like Ze Mario and Fabio Paim etc and lettin em come thru the ranks slowly...

PaPaGeorGeo
08-01-2005, 07:44:PM

In the sign up can we make it that the persons forum user name is like a middle name so then we can easily identify who people are

Deutschland
08-01-2005, 07:49:PM
No, first name and last name are your real names, your NICKNAME can be your forum name. But middle name sounds better? Dunno.

That would make Max Zlatan van Deurzen. Meh scratch that.

Seeing the people who posted in the stadium poll thread there are about 30 people intrested in this. I think we should stick to that amount of players.

We should reserve some spots to those who are of the FM community and open up the remaining slots to the rest of the forum. That would be the most fairest thing. I really want to play with the likes of Rob and Bobby.

That's sounds great, that way the people who actually play FM will be in the game but there won't be any grey players in the youth and reserves.
