Sorry i think i know wut it is but i aint sure, im too tired lol. Please explain the ragdoll effect ,cuz i don't know eighter! :( dumarse 26-01-2005, 10:05:PM It the effect that many FPSs use now in order to make objects react realistically to some kind of interaction like barrels floating and bodies being thrown about...like...well...ragdolls http://www.pcgameworld.com/redirect.php?url=http://www.havok.com/xtra/demos/demo-ragdoll2.html This shows what it could be like, we wouldn't want it as extreme as this though, but i believe it can work deftonesmx17 26-01-2005, 10:49:PM ragdoll would only really make sense to add to the ball, which already has ragdoll physics, unless you are talking like having the ball hit the keeper or a player in the back or face and pushing them with the ragdoll effect, then that is the only way i could see it helping a soccer game easy definition of ragdoll for those who dont understand the other one ( i am only trying to help, not say you are wrong)--- giving a 3d object the effect of "real" (simulated) gravity is a ragdoll gagiz 27-01-2005, 02:31:AM I think it would look cool! SuRFy 27-01-2005, 04:45:AM So it will be more realistic ? romero 27-01-2005, 05:16:AM i dont think ragdoll would make it look more realistic but make it look like .......ragdolls. its only good when someone gets shot but a tackle doesnt make you fal like you died, except if the player is diving. deftonesmx17 27-01-2005, 05:29:AM I think it would make a fall to the ground more realistic. Though I do believe the effect should not come into play until the player hits the ground. A body would bounce, just not much, when it hits the ground on impact after tripping wrong or geting pulled down to the ground the way they do in FIFA 05. This is the only way it would help though, or if a player could get knocked out with the ball. A knocked out person would fall just like a dead body. I don't think EA would even bother to add effecst like the ball literaly knocking someone out for a few years. Maybe when we have more powerful game systems. LilPlayaJosh 27-01-2005, 06:19:AM EA already uses ragdoll effects Fight Night 2004, but I dont know about in a soccer game though... dumarse 27-01-2005, 10:18:PM You wouldn't use the effect to the extreme so that it loos like the players have been shot! but i think that the predictable animations that you have for taking someone down are starting to look really old now. P.S. i just bought PES 4 for PC and it sux i hate it deftonesmx17 27-01-2005, 10:21:PM [i] P.S. i just bought PES 4 for PC and it sux i hate it [/B] thats why ya dont buy games unless you try them and like them  i also dont understand your the only other one that understands that it would look great, it is possible for a programmer to decide how much ragdoll effect is there, guys stop acting as if we are talking about adding the extreme, FPS have extreme ragdoll effects because they are programed for the effect of someone who just got shot. Quboid 27-01-2005, 10:54:PM I've always thought ragdoll would be good in football games. They work off a skelton system with joint resistance and movement, so when the ragdoll effect kicks in, the movement is both realistic looking (if done well) and none repetative - the animation is calculcated each and every time based on the present circumstances. At present, due to processor limitations mainly, these only kick in in shooters upon death and likewise, I think they'd only kick in during fouls in a football game. This would mean that whatever angle, power and height the contact came from, the fouled player would collapse realisticly. dumarse 28-01-2005, 02:32:AM They wouldn't use it all the time, they couldn't because i think it would be difficult to keep the players upright all the time!! it would only come in when there was a tackle, or rebounds, ( only on the ball once it had left the players foot) and goalkeepers saving the ball and the such like Personall i think it would be great just an idea for EA, but apparently there are more than expected against it. Keep posting i really like to hear other people's views! :crazyboy: TNeumann 29-01-2005, 12:59:AM cheers big dave, had fun playin wiv that skeleton ;) yeah ragdoll would be great, espeically for the falling of players dumarse 01-02-2005, 12:04:AM Damn i thought the poll would be more successful than this :( Iggy 01-02-2005, 06:53:AM I can see that you guys don't actually know what is the purpose of ragdoll effects in games. Ragdoll effects represent the dead body, or the real physics of a dead body. So, when you shoot a guy, he will make some cool moves, but those moves aint natural for the living man. So, when developers make games, they "attach" Havok engine to characters (or things, so non-living models), so they could make those ragdoll effects, after you kill them. FIFA needs realistic falls, and if I may notice, you wont see any footballer that falls like a dead body, after he gets fouled. You can't use Havok partially (like, only for few segments of falling on the ground) for characters. ntigers2004 02-02-2005, 04:48:PM if it makes fifa more realistic gameplay wise and everythign else wise HELL YEAH BRING IT ON!!!:rockman: ntigers2004 02-02-2005, 04:53:PM i think what u r all arguin about is what ragdoll is, now can some one just plz find a RIGHT definition as to what the hell reg doll is and how it will improve fifa's gameplay or just fifa as a whole Iggy 02-02-2005, 06:21:PM and how it will improve fifa's gameplay or just fifa as a whole it wont soccerulez 02-02-2005, 08:39:PM The gameplay is utter sh*t:f***: MasterM 02-02-2005, 08:47:PM Originally posted by deftonesmx17 This is the only way it would help though, or if a player could get knocked out with the ball. I don't think EA would even bother to add effecst like the ball literaly knocking someone out for a few years. well in fifa some shots go like 300mph, if you get hit by one of those you are dead, so ragdoll would be usefull in fifa. For fatalities with the ball. ntigers2004 03-02-2005, 03:33:PM hahahahaha or just random deaths ntigers2004 03-02-2005, 03:34:PM it wont then why bother? dumarse 03-02-2005, 10:02:PM anything will improve that gameplay, hehe i appear to have started an argument in the PES forum |
