loublaze33 24-02-2005, 12:57:AM How are you getting on with your careers? I lost Scholes, G.Nev and Giggs to retirement after two good seasons with them...2007 I think. Lost them all at once so it kinda hurt! I miss the guys but the replacements are ok...esp Keano's replacement who's already 84 after a 76 skill rating when he first signed! I signed Jouquin, well actually added him to the team at the very beginning and he and C.Ronaldo terrorise the flanks. I bought Vincent Kompany from Anderlecht and the young CB is doing fine. Chelsea have been at my heels ever since my career began and they've just won the EPL and i'm looking to end a disapointing third in my third season and first without Giggs, Scholes and them. Best game so far was CL 2nd leg qtr final against Anderlecht. First leg at OT was 1-1 and I scored a late goal away in the very last minute through Ruud! I vowed not to replay any CL games so that was amazing! Ruud is now 32 and still going strong as well as 30 yr old Saha. Can't wait to see who thier replacements will be. Has anyone who has gone further or completed a career ever been through a phase where your first 11 is totally new generation from the starters in 05? And do you play Howard or Carroll ( Howard is rated higher). I play Carroll and I sold Djemba-Djemba and FLetcher even though they had high ratings ( Djemba was 84 when I let Chelsea get him!) Kleberson has been great lately in midfield ( 93 at peak form) and the Millers, Phil Nevilles and Chris Eagles of this world are still fringe players
taipan 24-02-2005, 05:47:AM im in my second year and i only lost keane
ijan_hackers 24-02-2005, 08:31:AM I'm also a manchester united fan. i have played until 15th season and the ONLY player that still playing with mufc is Wayne Rooney. but, i noticed that the other old player still play with mufc, but in the different names. for example, if you play, you will hear the commentator say nistelrooy name, but the player name is different. for example, see the picture i included.

replace keane with hargreaves
replace scholes with bommel.
eassam 24-02-2005, 03:02:PM for g.neville get zambrotta or any italian club defender.
Hambo 24-02-2005, 03:08:PM the nistelrooy thing is quite interesting.
where do all the new players come from. after 15 years about 1/2 the players in fifa must have retired. what does the game do about new players, do they just get made up and appear in your team ??
James007 24-02-2005, 06:16:PM exactly :)
too bad their aint a youth team of real youth players u can choose from :p
Hambo 24-02-2005, 06:21:PM i bet ther must be some comedy names randomly generated somewhere in there then :D
eassam 24-02-2005, 06:38:PM yeah like ruud shevchenko
loublaze33 24-02-2005, 10:04:PM They're called replacements! Every time a player retires they generate a replacement. The spooky thing is sometimes the commentator calls them by thier predecessors names and even the face comes back sometimes!
10Ruud 25-02-2005, 01:57:AM Career mode sux......let's hope they can fix all the bugs for FIFA 2006.
goal_machine84 25-02-2005, 04:23:PM Well i am into my 9th season. The only old players left r rooney, ronaldo, ferdinand, brown,o shea. I dont sell any replacements apart from a few. 50% of my team is new and made up of replacements of my team or the ones i bought from other teams. Its gr8 but i am having a problem keeping a clean sheet. I play world class and its damn difficult to keep a clean sheet.
Anyways...i am gonna stay here with Man Utd till the end. Good luck to all the managers

I must really suck because I play in semi-pro and find it hard to score many goals! I don't concede a lot so theres a lotta 1-0s
James007 25-02-2005, 07:05:PM :o you do suck man... semi pro? hard to score? play more (H)

Yea man I need to play more and more. i just got winning 11 8 for PC last week and i've barely even touched it. The menus are horrible and the graphics suck compared to FIFA.
mutiger 26-02-2005, 05:10:AM Don't be so hard on yourself Lou...
This game can test you on just about any level. I play with the keyboard only and on semi-pro level...and I'm just now starting to come around to win consistently.
By the way...when I got to Man united in my fourth season...Gary neville and Keane had just retired...and I saw that Carroll and Scholes and Phil Neville were getting old as well. I knew from these forums that these guys would retire soon...so I sold Scholes and Neville and Carroll (Neville and Scholes to Liverpool!)...got a whole bunch of cash and bought Kaka to replace Scholes, Cafu's replacement from AC Milan (a 20 year old who was an 85 when I bought him...and 87 now) to play at right back and Ferrera's replacement Juventus (19 year old who was an 84...now 85) for added depth at CB. Also picked up the young striker Mitea from Ajax along the way...have shipped out Fortune, O'Shea and Bellion also...building up a bank roll for the upcoming off-season. Keane's and Gary neville's replacements are pretty serviceable...although none have gone above 77 during this... what I believe to be...their first season.
Kaka is now up to 35 goals in 41 games. I play him as a CAM in a 4-3-1-2. I kept Giggs...but I know he will retire this year, so I bought Solari from Real Madrid to back him up. I hear a lot of talk about Joaquin...who does he play for? Sorry for the ignorance
RVN is now 31...and still scoring a bunch...not as much as Kaka...and Saha, Smith, Rooney and Mitea all have good scoring records. I am thinking about off-loading RVN while he can bring in the BIG bucks so I can buy a great LM or CB...I'm still a little weak at the back...
What do you think Lou? Rest of you guys are welcome to chime in as well...I could also keep RVN and ship Saha since he's only one year younger...hmmmm
Feel free to help out!
Cheers,
mutiger

Nice going man....if u r looking for someone in the back then i suggest u get him from Italian seria A. They have the best defenders.I am sure u will get descent defenders in all positions who r young and rated around 80.believe me they r worth it. I have Kaka and Ronaldinho who play as playmakers and Keane's replacement is amazing(rated 93 now). I also got F Torres to partner rooney.
In short....for defenders look in Italy
for midfield look in spain and england
for attack look anywhere but fifa has a thing for European players so buy them from european clubs. Enjoy!!

Not too bad muti, but why did you sell those guys? Sometimes it pays to stick with the replacements who eventually equal or do better than thier predecessors and thats free money! However thats your way....but I bet you wouldn't wanna see the skill levels the replacements reach at the other clubs a few years later! Seems like Kaka is doing good for you! I just bought him in my 6th overall ( third with man u) season and if he doesn't justify his signing i'll sell him in summer. He seems okay but not really exceptional. I expected more pesonally. Saha is still a great goal threat at 30 and keeps Rooney on the bench (super sub). 4-1-2-1-2 is interesting as like to have a CAM but its not so good on the wide players for me. I like to attack from the wings. Get Jouqin. He plays for Athletico Madrid. I believe he's one of, if not the fastest player(s) in the game. Right now I think I should buy a GK. Howard has dissapointed and Carroll is getting old. Maybe I should go for Cech or Dida's replacement. Rio Mavuba, Kaka and Kleberson are now running things in midfield with joaquin and Ronaldo cruising down the flanks. Phil Neville will retire soon and I swore never to sell him even though he doesn't get that many games. Midfield is always tricky but once you find a combination of players that works you tend to keep them playing. As a result players like Miller and Eagles play once every blue moon but its always good to have backup.
Oh yea....keep Keane's replacement. It's my third season with him and he's now and 84 skill player and peaked at 87 in one game with boosted morale. The replacements improve skillwise at a faster rate than anyone else!

I almost got Torres but opted not to. I didn't wanna end up with a team full of stars like a world 11. So I decided to keep some ordinary hardworkers like Eagles and Miller
James007 26-02-2005, 10:42:PM lou blaze where in atlanta are you?
and i think eagles and miller both can get pretty good if u let them ;)
barthez4 27-02-2005, 02:49:AM when i got here (4th year), Scholes had been traded to Leicester City (i didn't know where he was though, i only looked for bigger teams), Keane had retired and his replacement was at 87 already.
i've bought a lot of replacement players. i bought Scholes' replacement this season, but hes a failure so far. i also bought Antonio Cassano from Roma, who was an immediate success. Another forward is Kakhaber Siradze (replacement of someone...) who is in his 3rd season at United now, and at 78, but he starts due to his incredible form. He is my 2nd leading goalscorer this season. Ryan Giggs' replacement started off very good, but this season he has yet to do very well. Jerome Rothen is now the normal starter on the left side. Gary Neville's replacement is doing fairly well so far, but i have bought Cafu's replacement, a 23 year old RB from AC Milan, his name is Vivaldo Richarlyson or something like that. He's already a 91. I have Lorenzo Amoruso (Blackburn) replacement, whos at 81 and swaps games with Rio due to form. Heinze is in his last season i think, or maybe his second last. I need to get a good left back before this season is over, because his replacement will not be that good due to his mediocre stats. Phil Neville has never played well for me in defense, but him and O'Shea have been very good in central midfield.
I'm currently playing a 3-6-1.
Season 1: Won the treble
Season 2: Won double (league and ECC)
Season 3: winning league, still in all competitions.
mutiger 28-02-2005, 09:47:AM Thanks for the help guys...
I have been using Seun's best players to sign list from earlier on this forum to come up with some players...here's the deal.
I finished winning the treble...taking the league championship on the season's last day with a 2-0 win over Chelsea. Then a couple of easy wins...one over Watford in the FA Cup final...and a surprisingly easy 3-1 win over Stuttgart in the Champions' League final.
In the off season...Giggs retired as expected...so I sold off some of my CMs because I have a surplus of them. So out went Severin and Djemba-Djemba. I also decided to keep RVN and sell Saha. Well...the board wouldn't let me sell Saha! So I had to try something different...I put Smith up for sale...finally getting him to Liverpool...now he's with Scholes and Phil Neville. So...I have more than 90,000 points. I go to pick up Joaquin...and he turns me down! So...I say "to heck with this!" and I bid on Denilson...who's also with Real Betis...also a LWM...and he turns me down! So now I'm starting to sweat...I was looking for a good LM to back up and take Solari's spot on the left in place of Giggs.
I took Goal Machine's advice...went to Italy...found a 20 year old CB who was an 87 already...paid 35,000 for him...and he's been tremendous...up to 89 just two months into the new season. He's tall, thin...and is beginning to gel with Ferdinand. I also needed help at left back as well as left wing...so I solved my problem by going out and getting Hargreaves from Bayern...who's upper 80's and still young...can play almost anywhere. I also have Giggs' replacement who's in the low 70's, but has come up two points with very little playing time...so I have the left side taken care of...just not as well as I had hoped. Since I had the money...I went out and bought another striker...who could also spell Kaka at CAM...call me a chauvenist...but I bought Donovan...he's young...he's an 87. He scored the winner in the Super Cup against Real Madrid.
Sold a couple of other spare parts...Gary Neville's replacement who was a 77 and second choice at right back behind a Cafu replacement who's up to 89...and Ricardo's replacement at goal keeper. Picked up Hamburg's first choice goal keeper (one of my former teams)...and I'm still looking for a real LW with more than 22,000 left. Maybe Beasley in January.
Now into my fifth season...have won 10 trophies...and just like ManU in real life...we're off to a slow start...1-4-2 and 14th place...but just three out of 10th...but 12 points behind Arsenal at the top.
Thanks for the help you guys...keep me up to date with your career/ManU progress. There is one thing I would like to see in career mode. While you're coaching...you got offers from other teams...you know...kind of like if you're in your third or fourth year at ManU...still winning everything...you could get a big money offer from say Juventus...or AC Milan...some owner who promises to pour big money into the club if you'll come and coach them...kind of like Chelsea. That would keep the game challenging once you've reached the top of the management hierarchey.
Cheers guys!

good luck for the final. You guys who can get the italian CBs are lucky! AC Milan, Juventus, and Inter Milan all don't have more than 18 outfielders in my career! Its a shame coz Milan for instance have all defenders at 97!
