Probable line-ups:

Arsenal: Lehmann - Laurén, Touré, Senderos, Cole - Vieira, Edu - Ljungberg, Reyes - Bergkamp, Henry

Bayern Munich: Kahn - Sagnol, Lucio, Kovac, Lizarazu - Salihamidzic, Demichelis, Frings - Ballack - Pizarro, Guerrero

Let's hope for an entertaining game. And a win for us, obviously :)

If i was Bayern manager i would take Kahn and Makaay with 9 defenders and defend like crazy. Makaay being hte only attacker and everyone else just stand in front of Kahn(H)

so 1-0 Bayern
Makaay

Yep, Makaay will definitly miss the game with a thigh injury.

Guerrero is more likely his substitute.

one of arsenal's starting 11 will score an own goal :D

seroiusly, this IS the match where arsenal can shock the world and stop being called euro flops (or get respected more in Europe) ..... but it probably won't happen. Arsenal will be missing campbell in defence.

Pizarro and Guerrero should be the striking duo. It all depends on the line-up that day. Pizarro could well be the lone striker.

I would just stack the Defence and Midfield to prevent Arsenal from scoring. You guys have a nice lead 3-1 i dont see the need to score just play good defence and the match is yours.

If we play for a draw, we're probably screwed. We need to score a goal early in the match to settle the game.

my prediction 0:0

scholl & makaay are injured.
but the whole defence (especially lucio, kovac, demichelis) & kahn are top at the moment.
maybe ballack heads one, but corners and freekicks must be used effectivly for that.

Anyway. We'll go through. Hopefully. I don't think it will be another Thierry Henry show, it doesn't come on 2 matches in a row.. It'll probably be our front 3 doing the damage again.

Jose Reyes and DB10 must start.

Hendrik

I'm very confident about this game. Our defense has been outstanding in the last couple of weeks, it's not easy to break through the center line of Lucio, Kovac and Demichelis.

Makaay's absence does hurt but Pizarro was more consistent in the past games.

Pizarro14
07-03-2005, 07:57:PM
Vince i think if guerrero starts he will do well. This kid is so gifted and has great awareness on the pitch. And yea our Defense setup is so hard to break now. we found our missing key, all i'am saying is if we start Guerrero-Pizarro is that it won;t be as bad as some people say. But as soon as Makaay heals 100% bring back makaay. ;)

All these comparisons of Arse's situation to the team against inter last year are a lil misguided. Bayern are not that Inter team, they will defend, they will be organized, and in my opinion, complete collapse is out of the question with a team system like theirs. Besides, if by some miracle they go through, that means the Blues go through, then its Wayne Bridge time again (H)

If arsenl get an early goal- anything can happen. Milan had a great defence last year but deportivo tore them to shreds- Arsenal tend to score goals in quick succession - so dont rule that out either

In the EPL maybe but not in CL and Bayern isn't easy, they are a well organized team, and since Sole is out it is very difficult for Arse to keep a cleansheet. And don't forget Bayern has won the CL before, they are among Europes finest. And with Lucio in a good mood I can't see Arsenal scoring a lot of goals. And Henry hasn't quite proven himself in the CL so far this season.

Hendrik
08-03-2005, 04:45:AM
With Makaay being out Bayern might even play a 4-5-1 although I favour the two striker tactics.

The team will be well organised like it's been in the last couple of weeks. We successfully kept a clean sheet in 6 of the 7 league after winter break.

Kahn, Lucio, Ballack and co. have already been to a final of the CL and the WC they surely know how to play in games like these.

I'd Like to see Arsneal take this line-up

-----------------Lehmann------------------

--Lauren----Touré---Senderos----Cole

--Ljungberg--Vieira--Fabregas--Reyes

------------Bergkamp--Henry------------

I'd prefer Fabregas over Flamini because we need to attack. Fabregas can open up defenses really well and he might prove priceless.

Eng4WorldCup
09-03-2005, 07:11:AM
and i prefer flamini because we MUST be more dominant in midfield to be able to help the forwards. i highly, highly doubt wenger would start fabgregas over flamini. also pires is back, and although he will probably start on the bench, we may have him in there form the start

bigp
09-03-2005, 08:15:AM
I would start Flamini since Bergkamp is back to split open the defense. IF we're losing then throw in Fab and Pires. Man, Bergkamp is the key to this game as I AM CONFIDENT with Senderos and Toure.

Kickoff is only 6 hours away from now and I'm already nervous.

As for a possible next round opponent, the winner of Monaco/Eindhoven or Leverkusen/Liverpool would be fine with me. At least no ultra defensive Italian team or the Russians.

Arsenal 3-1 Bayern Munich

Bergkamp 2x
Henry

Bayern: set piece, probably Jens being too ambitious

Arsenal in penalties

I don't think it is possible for Arsenal to keep a clean sheet but the late goal in Munich will haunt come back to haunt them.

Bergkamp will bring out the young Dennis for this one. He will do his job and take the pressure off of Henry. But Henry will step up and hopefully become the big game player everyone criticises him for.

It will take some luck and the Gunner's need one of their back to back goals in two minutes like Middlesborough. It is a shame they are not playing against Middlesborough.

Come on you Gunners

congrats to bayern- u deserved it over the 2 games- good things to build on 4 arsenal sendaros who was so good, flamini.

I think we should revert to a 3 man midfield. replace ljungberg get another right midfielder, get a defender and a goalie- and another striker.

We held a clean sheet without our 2 best central defenders, our spirit can't be denied. We'll have a better shot next year, we'll finally have a bit of money with the loans being paid off and the stadium having been paid for.

We can bring in a player with some bite, something we're missing without Parlour.

We should go for the FA cup, and not give up on the league, i can still see Chelsea docked points for the Cole episode, and we can catch United.

Gilberto was on the bench tho, great sign.

Flamini shouldn't have come off. Put Cesc on the wing instead.

Senderos needs to stay awake. Other than that we got our
Adams-like Campbell replacement.

its all good- jus got a bit wound up b4 the match i suppose- congrats again u guys deserved to go through- and u play some nice football.

From arsenals point of view- sendaros came of age today- i jus hope we consolidate and maybe get trabelsi- someone versatile who can play all across the back, maybe kompany. I also think it is important to replace ljungberg. More experience up front ( depends on aliadiere and Van persie) and a sound goalie.

No, he's just a bit un-aware at times,
vital moments eg.
I've seen this at a numerous amount of occasions.

Flamini impressed me more though. I've got to say.

We put on a very aggressive performance in the first half but seemed to overpower a bit at that time. Arsenal easily controlled the game in the second half but our defenders Lucio and Kovac did a good job.

I think it's deserved that Bayern go to the rext round, they were the better team over 3 halfs.

cesc on the wing? u, my friend, is on crack

overall, i was in skool the whole game. the first update was at halftime 0-0, second update was 1-0 with 2/3 mins left.

well, i did expect us to go out, and im happy we at least won the game

also, on the bright side henry is 7 goals away (H)

now imagine that comes against spuds/chelski (H) (H)

I think that if Bayern's defense can hold true for the rest of the CL, they've got as much of a chance as anyone.

And Senderos does look good, big and strong just what you want from a DC in England.

Respect to Henry, what a goal against Bayern. I did expect Arsenal to switch up a gear and put more pressure on the Bayern defence after that goal. But after that goal it seemed to me as if the whole arsenal team was content with that one goal lead and didnt create any clear cut chances.

Btw that Vieira's "flick, turn and shoot" is really wonderful, although it didnt go in. Never thought he could have done that. He must have learned that from Bergkamp?

Although Arseanl failed again in Europe, I think they still have a lot of positives to take from this defeat. It proves that technically Arsenal aint worse than other European elites. Plus they do have a very good squad of players especially the young ones with the likes of Cesc, Flamini, and that young defender(what's his name again?) etc.. It's just Mr. Wenger's lack of flexibility in tactics that cost them dear. In this aspect I think they are very similiar to Barca.

Oh and at last, I only watched the 2nd half and I think Reyes is shiit and is well past his best already, did nothing except that wonderful last min tackle.

Sensational for a short period of time (at the beginning of this season)

+

Has been crap since then

=

Flop

=

A player that's past his best at a very young age.

And out of the games I watched Reyes play this season, he certainly falls into that "flop" category.

Moreover, obviously by saying he's past his best I was trying to emphasize how crap he's been and to be harsh on that gypsy. How some of you read into it is really funny.

Mother of god, that is a world class beating. Was there a reason they continued to score even after there was no possible doubt? I know some were penalties, but i wouldnt want to publicly embarrass a team like that unless they were like mortal rivals or at least a domestic side. Ahh, poor werder bremen
