I wanted to know if when playing the MLS league, if this league will use these specail rules the MLS uses:

1) Playoffs
2) Clock counts down
3) the MLS's version of the shootout when game is tied
4) 1 season point for winning game in shootout

Hopefully those special rules will NOT be included in FIFA 2000 - especially since numbers 2, 3 and 4 may very well be gone from MLS (in real life) by next season! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

I like realism. Therefore, my proposal would be...

Include it all. HOWEVER, allow the user to switch these rules on or off, just in case MLS changes its rules.

For that matter, how about total customization of league rules?

Possible customization includes, in addition to MLS rules...

* J-League tiebreaker/point system - why not?
* Old FIFA points (2 for win) - good for use with classic teams
* Use MLS shootout in place of penalties as cup tiebreaker
* Division play (hey, MLS has that!)
* Suspension for yellow card accumulation
* Number of teams promoted/relegated

Other stuff (game rules) suggested in the total customization paragraph in my post in Kewell's FIFA COMPILED SUGGESTIONS DICTIONARY.

I remember seeing one of those one time. It looked pretty cool.

I do like Elninho's proposition of including it all. This way, I would be able to turn off the shootout and the countdown clock. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

playing with MLS does use injury time after the regulation time has run out... i thought that was kinda odd. I haven't been to many games lately (the crew is too boring to watch whenever i go) so I can't remember if this is standard, though I don't think it is

Tomas,

MLS currently has a clock that starts at 45:00 and counts down to 0:00 each half, and is stopped when the ball is out of play (like in the other American sports leagues).

However, MLS is seriously considering changing it so by next season the clock will start at 0:00 and go up to 45:00 by halftime, then up to 90:00 by the end of the game... and use injury time when necessary (like soccer/football leagues do around the world).

So perhaps FIFA 2000 having MLS have a count-up clock and injury time like everyone else may be a reflection of what'll happen to MLS (in real life) in 2000 (either that, or the programmers just didn't want to go through the hassle of putting in MLS' uniquely weird rules http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/biggrin.gif).

Hope that helps! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Actually, they start at 45:00 and just count backward to 0 without stopping the clock for anything except for injury.

The Ikster,

You're right... I stand corrected! http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hopefully, that will be a moot point by next season. I'd like to have MLS play with a count-up clock and (more importantly) no shootouts (i.e. games either end in a tie or an overtime).

I hope so, too.

the 1 thing that hasnt been touched is the playoff system of MLS< I wonder if that will be in the game as an option,whats everyones opinion on post season play in MLS in general? It has its ups and downs, having a playoff system isnt that traditional but the playoffs do give you 1 big champion and not a seperate league and cup champion

Well, in a sense, we still have that. The winner of the MLS Cup is considered the league champs. Then, we have the U.S. Open Cup, which the Rochester Raging Rhinos won three weeks ago.

Ikester gave me an Idea for American soccer in itself, from mentioning the US open cup and Rochester from the A league won it, maybe we could combine the 2 leagues, MLS will be known as the "American Premier League" and the A league will be "American 1st division", then we can get some of the semi pro clubs to form 2nd, 3rd divisions ( Just a thought, probably a stupid one http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/biggrin.gif )

There are no such things as stupid thoughts, just stupid people. (To borrow a phrase from Mr Garrison from "South Park".) I'm not calling you stupid, by the way.

This is what I see happening: once the MLS is on its feet and have enough teams in the league (I say about 20 or so), they'll begin the promotion/relegation with all levels of American soccer. (What would be funny: if an MLS team, within 2 years, end up in the D-3 league. That's a bad name for a league, I think. I'd rather say that I play in the USISL, which is what the D-3 league is a part of.)

The Ickster,

I agree, Inter Milan USA's idea is a good one... but we'd have to wait until MLS becomes a little more established. http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/smile.gif

And I think that in America, Divisions 2-4 (A-League, D-3 Pro League, and the Developmental League) are all controlled by the USL (United Soccer Leagues), whose old name was USISL (United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues). http://www.soccergaming.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
