I've been playing FIFA since the Genesis. So I'm always excited to see another year of FIFA. With that said, EA has come a long way and I hope next year (2006) they include somethings.
I'd like to see...
- Players, both offense and defense, play more frenentically around the box. I can't count how many times a defender, especially the wings, just look at the offensive player dribble straight to goal. On the flip side, I can recall countless times when my forward will just leisurely run to a ball. EA should implement a 'zone' or 'area' around the goal box where players will play more aggressively. Look at real soccer games. Coaches will rip their players if they at all lack aggressivness on both sides of the ball around the goal box.
- Players go to balls. There will be times when my player will wait for a ball to come to him, only to have it stolen by a player running to the ball. This occurs usually when the ball is slowing rolling to him or is deflected to him. If there's one thing my soccer coaches kept drilling into me was always GO TO THE BALL!!
- A different career mode. It takes so long to get to sign with the upper echelon teams like ManU and Real Madrid, that by the time I do sign, nearly all of the good players are retired and now are represented by their 'reincarnated' younger self. It sucks.
- A wider field. I think the field is too small this year. The game relies now solely on short passes. I can't lob anything over a defenders head, nor can I switch the ball effectively.
- Players should move when they don't have the ball. On throw-ins its just plain silly. How many times will you see players just stand their waiting? That's ain't real at all. Then when you throw the ball in, it takes forever for the player to get the ball under control and by that time the ball is stolen.
- Players need better control of the ball. Off-the-ball is great, but it needs to be tweaked. In front of the goal, if you are trying to score you don't want to tap the ball 5 yards in front of you. Instead you'd want to have it die in front of you so you can take a shot. Or better yet, you could wait until a defender's on you and then tap it left or right and shot it.
- Where is the shielding? That's one of the most important and most pivitoal part of soccer. In 2005, there is no shielding. Using your body is important in soccer and in 2005, well you can't. It would make sense if you could use your body to chest the ball down on a header or when the ball is coming, shield the ball from the defender.
- More reactions! Players do not have steel bodies. If the ball is kicked into them, they will react. If you get hit in the nuts, you will fall. If you get smacked in the head, you will go down. No one is impervious to a ball struck by Ruud.
- Players should be able to 'roam' free. When chasing after a player, its hard to run anyway but a straight line. Let's say you are trying to steal a ball and the offensive player has his back to you. In 2005, you can only run straight to him. Then your screwed. He's by you and then he's at the goal box and then he shots, he scores, and you lose.
Those are just some of the changes/improvments/problems I'd like to see fixed.
