View Full Version : England's Last Champions League Spot
Fernandez 21-03-2005, 09:54:AM As we all know, it seems that the attention has focused on that last spot for entry into the UEFA Champions League tournament. Any team that finishes fourth will get it unless Liverpool wins the Champions League. I think I've heard from a football show that if Liverpool win the trophy, the FA will get to choose who to let in. The teams that I think are going to battle for the spot are Everton, Liverpool and Bolton, who has done remarkably well.
Here are the fixtures of the respective teams.
Everton:
West Brom (a) 3/4
Crystal Palace (h) 10/4
Manchester United (h) 20/4
Birmingham City (h) 23/4
Fulham (a) 30/4
Newcastle (h) 7/5
Arsenal (a) 11/5
Bolton (a) 15/5
Liverpool:
Bolton (h) 2/4
Man City (a) 9/4
Tottenham (h) 16/4
Portsmouth (a) 20/4
Crystal Palace (a) 23/4
Middlesbrough (h) 30/4
Arsenal (a) 8/5
Aston Villa (h) 15/5
Bolton:
Liverpool (a) 2/4
Fulham (h) 9/4
Charlton (a) 16/4
Southampton (h) 19/4
Aston Villa (a) 23/4
Chelsea (h) 30/4
Portsmouth (a) 7/5
Everton (h) 15/5
Rocky 21-03-2005, 09:58:AM im the first to vote:D id give it to 'Pool
rony31 21-03-2005, 10:04:AM Bolton or Everton since they dont have to face the new and improved (and ROBBED against Tottenham) Man City
Vagegast 21-03-2005, 10:16:AM Nothing against Liverpool, but it may be fun to see some new and fresh faces in the Champions League next year. They get credit for reaching as far as they have but I find them annoying to watch in the league sometimes. Most inconsistent team in the EPL.
santino 21-03-2005, 10:28:AM Let's go Everton!!!!!!!!!!!!:D
Everton because they actually try to play football. Not like that fat walrus **** at Bolton who tells his players to kick the opponents and thump long balls.
John_Arne_Riise 21-03-2005, 11:09:AM I think Liverpool should get it. have to claim all 3 points in at least 5 or 6 of their remaining games. Cant see Everton beating Man Utd, Arsenal and Newcastle. And their match on the last day against Bolton could be crucial.
Siawash 21-03-2005, 11:49:AM I'd say Everton, they have done so well in the league this season (Y)
Norwich. - They are a dark horse.
henry#14 21-03-2005, 12:36:PM Liverpool will probably sneak it.
Mikey 21-03-2005, 12:44:PM I hope Bolton or Everton get the spot. So like Italys 4th place team (samp, udinese), they can get knocked out in the 3rd qualifying round :(
TOON ARMY 21-03-2005, 02:33:PM I think Liverpool will get it now. The 2-1 win yesterday will boost their confidence no end.
However Everton and Bolton can consider it a great season finishing in the UEFA cup spots. Let's not forget where Everton were this time last season.
Bilo90 21-03-2005, 02:55:PM liverpool's fixtures are so difficult.. look at this,
Liverpool:
Bolton (h) 2/4
Man City (a) 9/4
Tottenham (h) 16/4
Portsmouth (a) 20/4
Crystal Palace (a) 23/4
Middlesbrough (h) 30/4
Arsenal (a) 8/5
Aston Villa (h) 15/5
those are amazing teams, palace are the only ones in which they have a very good chacne of winning.
Joe Star 21-03-2005, 04:14:PM Ahh who cares about 4th place! Liverpool has the Champions League in the bag man! No worries (H) .....i wish :(
the holder of CL will auto qualified? am i right?
Hendrik 21-03-2005, 04:46:PM Yep, instead of the 4th placed team.

I'm not so sure about that because i heard its up to the respective FA's to select the team when a situation like this occurs. Either way its hard to see the FA choosing Everton if Liverpool do(which is next to imposible) win the CL

Well, u heard wrong
The situation is that any country has a maximum of 4 teams.
If Everton finish 4th and Liverpool finish lower than that but win the CL the 4 qualifiers would be the top 3 plus Liverpool as holders.
Jono82 21-03-2005, 06:11:PM My heart's with the toffees, but my head's with the redshyte
darkaznknight 21-03-2005, 06:19:PM YEp that's right. Also Liverpool will be getting fourth spot anyway. I imagine it as this.
(points jus random to show what i'm saying)
AFTER ROUND 37
4th-Everton 64
5thBolton 64
6thLiverpool 63
Then Everton and Bolton DRAW!
4th Everton 65
5th Bolton 65
6th Liverpool 63
Then Liverpool WIN THEIR LAST MATCH!
4th Liverpool 66
5th Everton 65
6th Bolton 65
BOO YEAH!
But more realistically i reckon this will be the final 4th,5th and 6th placings and points.
4th Arsenal 69
5th Everton 51
6th Bolton 46
I did mention liverpool finshed 3rd undefeated in last 8 matchs on 71 points didn't i?
:D
Bonzi 21-03-2005, 06:52:PM  do hope Everton will finish on the fourth place
manutd4eva 22-03-2005, 01:03:AM Everton.
Just because it will piss off the Liverpool fans.
Djibril Cisse 22-03-2005, 04:02:AM Everton i would love them to finish 4 and win their qualifers i would like to see them try to kick the lumps out of Ac milan but not at our exspense (H)

Bobby 22-03-2005, 05:34:AM I think everton, I wish Charlton could get there.
Kibe Kru 22-03-2005, 07:39:PM The holders do not auto-qualify... if Liverpool win it's up to the FA to ask UEFA to include Liverpool instead of the 4th placed team... but i believe Liverpool will be the 4th placed so it'll be all fine...

Bolton or Everton since they dont have to face the new and improved (and ROBBED against Tottenham) Man City They deserved it after getting robbed against United.
I'd like to see Bolton get 4th place, but it looks like Everton will manage it.
Who would've thought we'd be talking about Everton and Bolton for Champions League at the start of the season? I had Everton as potential relegation candidates in August! We should've bought Tim Cahill....fkin chairman refusing to pay agent's fees :f***:

Not at Selhurst they don't! They only beat us 3-2 at Anfield on a 90th minute penalty.

Everton.
Just because it will piss off the Liverpool fans. Unless of course Liverpool win the CL, then it'll be the Everton fans screaming murder (thought it wouldn't be the first time Liverpool have screwed a team out of the European Cup :( )
(Yes Palace actually finished in 3rd place once upon a time and qualified for the CL because Liverpool were banned, but the ban was strangely lifted early and Palace were screwed).

PS: Aren't you glad i didn't quadruple post?
Joe Star 23-03-2005, 01:29:PM Qualification for the competition is decided by competitor teams placing in their domestic league championship, on a quota system, with countries with stronger domestic league competition allocated more teams. Clubs that play in stronger domestic leagues also enter at later stages of the competition.
For example, the three strongest domestic leagues, as rated by UEFA, place their champions and runners-up directly into the group phase, and their third-and fourth-place teams enter at the third qualifying round. Domestic league champions from countries rated by UEFA as poor recieve no place in the Champions League, and instead recieve entry to the secondary UEFA Cup.
There is one exception to this rule; the current Champions League titleholder automatically qualifies for the group stage, regardless of where it finished in its domestic league.
I guess i was mistaken. So if Liverpool win the CL Everton are so screwed (H)
manutd4eva 23-03-2005, 01:43:PM But Liverpool won't win.
I think Pool will get it. If we can get our act together we are capable of doing it, especially as Everton are sucking major balls lately.
Ebonix 23-03-2005, 04:32:PM I think we (Liverpool) will get 4th place. Everton's form has been poor since they lost Graveson, I think it'll effect them even more next season. Liverpools games should at least be draws and the other teams fixtures are slighty more difficult.
barthez4 23-03-2005, 06:59:PM i hope that Bolton get it, though i can't see them faring well in Europe. liverpool are a longshot to win the CL, but it could happen. i dont write them off just yet. 2 more injuries and i will though, they'll have kirkland playing striker and benitez as a left back.
i think it'll either be bolton or pool.
Atlas 23-03-2005, 08:07:PM I hop Liverpool gets it. the likes of Morientes, Gerrard, Alonso, and Biscan deserve CL football. :p
Payaah 23-03-2005, 08:33:PM What happened when Madrid won CL, and finished like 5th in La Liga?
ScimitarPES2 23-03-2005, 08:38:PM Bolton have the easier run-in, Everton have the points advantage and Liverpool have the class. I think it'll end up being very close. My vote went to Everton as it would be a shame to see them lose out after being near the top for so long. If not, then Bolton. No offense to Liverpool or their fans, but I'd love to see a different team in the CL for once.
Zlatan 23-03-2005, 08:49:PM Although I have a certain 'feeling' for Liverpool I think Everton are going to get the spot. 4 points may be too much.
If they try, Liverpool could make it to the CL.
But that needs a lot of work, so they reach Everton.
Raikkonen 23-03-2005, 09:57:PM What happened when Madrid won CL, and finished like 5th in La Liga?
We qualified for the next CL tournament, and Zaragoza (i think it was Zaragoza...), who ended fourth in La Liga that season, had to play UEFA Cup ;)
you can imagine how 'happy' they were... :crazyboy:
mannyb28 24-03-2005, 03:39:AM Liverpool could pull it off
Lonestarr022 24-03-2005, 07:07:AM I think Everton will h0old on, Maybe if there were 15 or so games to go maybe, but i think its on ly 8 left right?
btw it would be funny if Everton finish 4th, but Liverpool win the CL, meaing Liverpool would play in next season's CL, and Everton wouldnt, but i doubt that will happen
