View Full Version : New Canadian National Jersey colours and Crest
pasion1 20-04-2005, 03:43:AM They said like a month ago that in a little while they are going to completely change the (God awful) Canadian Soccer Crest.
I think they should change the jersey to a new colour. The Red is so "3rd Division Pitty CLub" looking. I hate it.
Japan also has a red and white Flag but they have that awesome blue jersey which looks great internationaly. (Just Like Italy who has no Blue in their flag at all........or Holland (kinda).) or like Australia and their Green (they have none in their flag)
I think Canada should change to a new Colour. We could start a petition to the CSA too (they want our art work for the new crest so why not this).
Blue would look cool.....but I dont know. Some colour that has nothing to do with Canada. Purple? Silver? White (with a bit of red) instead of the other way around <which doesnt look good at all..the all red)
What do you guys think?
JFG_Lancer 20-04-2005, 04:41:AM They should get a blue and green kit
kickin_kyle 20-04-2005, 04:44:AM Canada has always had red and white for sports teams though.
Rochester Rhino 20-04-2005, 04:45:AM I think they should stay red, they've always been none to be red, being another color would just look wierd, regardless of the color being on the flag or not, it's just the traditional color for canada.
pasion1 20-04-2005, 05:12:AM Canada has always had red and white for sports teams though.
so did Japan until the mid 90s (they had white with red or blue slashes on the shirts)
But they should atleast change the jersey from all red to red shirt with white pants. (Or maybe add gold lines to it.....something). I really think the kit is one of the worst currently available.
If they change the crest, theyll surely change the uniform a bit (Like the CSA crest for now <the white ball with white leaf> fits the all red jersey. But making the crest golden <as I heard they might> would have to change the jersey......so im still hopeful.
kickin_kyle 20-04-2005, 05:21:AM i mean for all sports. i dont see any reason to change the colours, red has always been associated with Canada.
it doesnt look that bad..

So did I, Janan's B-ball, Volleyball, All Olympic teams had white and red. But for Soccer they only changed to Blue.
And also thats what I was saying with that "If Canada gets a GOld crest" , theyd have to change the jersey too (atleast a little). Making it light red (kinda like a scarlet) would make it work.....that would look really good
mark77 20-04-2005, 05:29:AM They should keep the jersey red and change the shorts to black.

What do you guys think?Just because the colour isn't in a nations flag doesn’t there is no meaning for it being on a countries sporting strip.
From the year 1907 orange is the main colour of the Dutch national jersey. Orange refers to the Dutch Royal Family also called 'the House of Orange'. Since the colour was introduced it is the main point of identification for the shirt.
The same goes for Italy, as blue was the colour of Italy's former royal family.
Australia wears green and gold because it is a] Our national colours, and this is because of the plant in Australia the wattle which is green and gold.
Countries don't wear colours because it looks good, there is always a reason and significance behind it
::shinji:: 20-04-2005, 01:23:PM Stop talking about Japan already, what they and Australia, Italy, do has nothing to do with us. Besides they wear certain colours for particular reasons, not just because it's cool. Personally I think the red is fine, we've even wore a black away kit before which was pretty sharp too. I wouldn't mind if they mixed it up a bit and wore white shorts with the red jersey or something. Blue would only be ok if it was some kind of special comemorative kit or something, considering Canada actually had an official flag that was blue until 1957 I think it was..
A new more traditional looking crest would be nice though. Hopefully they have a contest or something to design it cause' I'd definatly get in on that
Punkt 20-04-2005, 01:39:PM Canada's kit is awesome. and they must stay with the red that is the national colour. this things don't change.
newbie original 20-04-2005, 03:03:PM Stick with all red. Only change could be the shorts to white. Cannot go with green or blue :nape:
pasion1 20-04-2005, 05:08:PM So any ideas on the new crest?
I know Australia recently changed theirs too but I didnt like it too much (Can be seen on FIFA World Cup.com)
I was just thinking that Canada isnt doing too bad. Gold Cup is starting in July and Im looking forward to that.
What do you think is the ranking between all the English Speaking nations worldwide (IE North america, UK, Australia)
Id say (now) its
England
USA
Rep. of Irealand (though might be better than the States)
Scotland
Australia
Canada
Wales
Northern Ireland
hmm...on second thought were not doing that well. But there isnt a HUGE difference between Canada and Australia or Scotland Id think.
::shinji:: 20-04-2005, 06:48:PM we're probably on par with Northern Ireland, Jamaica....as far as the English speaking world we're definatly better than New Zealand and some of the Carribean Islands, other than that nothing comes to mind. We used to be the second strongest team in Concacaf after Mexico at one point beleive it or not, but that was like 20 years ago :(
Lack of funding has been a big part of our decline. In my opinion we had better players then with more passion for the national jersey, guys like Lenarduzzi, Carl Valentine, Bruce Wilson, etc always gave 100% for the NT, not this half-assed crap you see from Radzinski these days..
you should try to find some video of Canada at World Cup 86', sure we narrowly lost every game but we always gave a good showing and didn't get owned. We even had the European champ France on the ropes to the point where they were clearling balls off their goal line. Today we wouldn't stand a chance against the French.
curswine 20-04-2005, 07:44:PM Canada has always struck me as being a dark green country no idea why its just what I associate with Canada so maybe a rendition of Lokomotiv's kit might be in order.
oh and Japan is blue because the imperial army used to wear blue in battle
Bobby 20-04-2005, 10:30:PM I'd say Canada is on the 3rd level in North America, lack of an organized league hurts them alot.
Mexico and USA obviously being the top tier. Costa Rica, Jamaica and Honduras being 2nd. Then a wad of teams, then the St. Kitts group.
They should wear red tho, it's their national color.
ottawaguy 21-04-2005, 12:58:AM I hope they keep the colours but revamp that awful looking crest. It's like an imitation of the old adidas logo. Maybe better kits will lead to better results :)
Dimony 21-04-2005, 12:01:PM Why paint a car that doesnt have an engine?
bjmenge 21-04-2005, 03:12:PM I think Canada should consider doing something similar to what the U.S. Soccer Federation did a while ago, when updating their crest.
At the 1994 World Cup, the US team wore kits that featured this logo on them:
http://img91.echo.cx/img91/843/uslogo4sm.gif
I think we can all agree that it is rather cartoonish, and is not a traditional style football crest. Personally, I hate it, now that I look back on it.
Shortly thereafter, the USSF revamped their logo/crest, incorporating some of the old logo, but removing the ugly "SOCCER" from the bottom, and adding some elements from the US flag. This is the result:
http://img91.echo.cx/img91/4615/usbadge7py.gif
I think it is excellent and I'm proud to see the US players wearing it. I really like how it kept some of the old, added some new, and turned out as a very nice football crest.
I think it is important for Canada to keep the maple leaf as an element of their new crest because, to the best of my knowledge, it is a symbol that is very representative of the nation. Much like the stars and stripes for the US. Trash the ugly "CANADA" writing and the half of the ball, but keep the maple leaf.
::shinji:: 21-04-2005, 04:37:PM yeah that new US crest is pretty nice, sorta NFL-ish, but a lot of new crests sorta have that look to them like Arsenal.

We (adidas) used to have 'wattle gold' as our home kit since the 1920's and right through the late 1990's up till 1998 then Adidas thought they might do a switcha-roo on us and make the AWAY one Green and Gold trim as home, and Navy Blue for away which was pretty smart.
Nike decided to go back to basics and used Gold and green trim as home again and Green-Gold Trim as away.
So Australia went full circle! (H)
But i am not familiar with Canada's history behind Red as their colour beside they old flag was the British Red Ensign and now the modern flag is red and white. But canada's logo and kit is pretty smart, too bad they don't play often to show it off! :(
