I've read it somewhere that slightly better graphics and better animation. But not really a major facelift because of the ps2 limitations already going to be reached. Gameplay-wise nothing out yet.

It will definitely be a noticeable improvement, but no more than it was from PES3 to PES4. They have squeezed almost as much as they can from the PS2, atleast graphically, so don't expect much in that department. With gameplay there are certainly elements they can improve though.

i hope for more tricks especially the jayjay-okocha-trick, the rabona-CROSS and maybe some more and QUICK free-kicks, QUICK corners and throw-ins, of course

I don't really think that much can be changed. Konami said that they had a whole load of stuff to implement, but said the ps2 was too weak to implement them now.

I guess all they can do really is just adjust a few slight weaknesses; player balance, goalkeepers not being able to save at near post etc.

They said they're going to implement more tricks in this one, the elastico will be available! :lui:

But what I'd like to see most, are variations of shots. When players shoot on pes4/we8, its 90% of the time power drives, or slide shots, I want more placed curling shots, like Beckhams against Wales. I HAVE scored about 15 or so like that, but I want it able to press something like r1 and shoot, to do a different type of shot... Catch my drift?

I don't really mind how much they change it, as long as they don't make it worse! :clapwap:

One thing is for sure, no money will be leaving my bank account in order to play PES5. It's completely obvious that they have nothing else to offer on the PS2, so PES5 will simply feature a few superficial changes in a desparate attempt to create the impression of a new game.

Of course, PES5 on PS2 will be PES4 re-incarnated and the fanboys will be wanking away as they cream themselves over the "brand new, super-perfect gameplay which makes PES4 look like crap", although any objective person will realise that it is basically exactly the same as PES4 with very minor tweaking...and £35 for the privelege of playing the what is essentially an insignificant patch is simply laughable.

Unfortunately, if history is anything to go by, PES6 on PS3 will probably be a re-creation of PES5 (and unfortunately, PES5 will be much the same as PES4) but on a new machine called the PS3, (Konami happily admitted that PES1 on PS2 was basically an attempt to convert ISS Pro Evo 2 to a new machine, but were only too happy to charge £35 for the privilege of playing it), so PES7 (in 2007) is likely to be the next real step forward.

They release 3 versions of the same game every year, but make any real progress, on average, only once in every 3 years.

Happy wanking, fan boys.

I'd actually be quite happy to wait 2 years for PES5/WE9, so it had it's debut on the PS3. I think the game would benefit far more if they spent that time really improving things instead of rushing out a version that clearly won't be THAT much better, while having to develop a new engine for the PS3 at the same. Both games could suffer otherwise.

i'd like to see little superfluous detail, like bandage tape on ring fingers, taped up ankles (from the boot up to the shin, not just a strip) different wristbands, more boots, dynamic weather?, more customizing ability to each player to make a team more unique.

ML definitely needs to be looked at. I reckon SWOS still has one of the best management systems of any football game, although it was quite simplistic. They should use this as the basis for the ML and build a modernised version of it. I still love the fact that SWOS had every player from every league in every country, and you could play manage a lower div team in their own countries league all the way to the top. The transfer system was also a work of genius. How great would PES/WE be if they did this!

I will like to see the keepers bug removed and online lag should be reduced or eliminated. The lag is hazardous.

Also Konami should specialize on making few video games instead of trying to make soo many games the same year. Before their specialty used to be just soccer but now they make 7/8 different video games apart from soccer, and that is not good cos they will not have enough time and manpower in perfecting WE/PES.

That is what happened to EA sports, they have their hand in almost every brand of games that come into the market. In order to make profits, they end of making crappy games.

aqua
05-05-2005, 08:36:PM
Even if they don't emulate SWOS (and I am 100% certain they won't), let's hope that they at least do something with the custom leagues and cups and ML structure.

The game has 200 teams yet we can only play with 32 teams in a cup!! What is so hard about allowing us to play with 128 teams so we can have a true FA Cup?

We cannot even play true Champs' League format with home and away in group stages. This is not exactly hard to implement. It's 2005, for fock sake!! Perhaps they are deliberately saving it for a future release so they can declare it as an amazing new "must buy" feature :nape: .

And for goodness sake, please let's not have a ridiculous 8 teams in ML Division 2. I still find this unbelievable. And an FA Cup only for Div 1 teams...do me a favour .

They spend huge amounts of time of adding intricate details to the ML and all those pages of after-match stats which nobody understands or bothers to look at, yet they get so many of the simple league/cup structural things wrong!!! Year after year, they totally miss the target.

If only they were a British games company....

I remember reading somewhere that PES5 was already finished, and that Konami had already began working on PES6. I don't know how much of it is true, but I think it is, since most people already speculate that PES5 is just going to be a small facelift and not a huge upgrade.

Kibble
06-05-2005, 01:42:AM
Future PES games just have to be more customisable. So that you can literally create any league/cup/career you want. With loads more teams, it would truly be miraculous if you could just create any tournament or career you wanted from scratch, shaping the structure of things etc. This may be too much to wish for, but one day...

Jus a few tweaks to the gameplay will make this game a whole lot betta.

-Animations: Few new shooting animations- full body realisitic shooting style
- Better 1 on 1 chances of scoring being able to place the ball past the goalie and not havin to chip or take it round the keeper all the time
-Better first touch from a long ball into ur path
- Better getting the ball into the danger zone from crosses

Pro Evolution Soccer 5
PS2/PC/XBox - PAL Regions Only

Release: October 2005
Price: PS2/XBox £29.99 - PC £17.99

Konami will be releasing what could quite possibly the final installment of Pro Evolution Soccer on the current consoles in October of 2005. Details of Pro Evolution Soccer 5 are few and far between at this time. However, some features which you can expect to see are:

Improved Graphics
Once again player models and animations will be refined to look smoother than ever. Do not expect a huge over-haul in the graphics until the next-generation consoles, however.

New stadiums
Although not yet confirmed which new stadiums will be making an appearance in Pro Evolution Soccer 5, PESInsight expects at least 4 new stadiums to be in the game. Hopefully one of which will be Real Madrid's Bernabeu.

Online Play
Again, not confirmed, but Konami are hopeful that Pro Evolution Soccer 5 will feature online play on the Playstation 2, as well as XBox and PC. The latest release in Japan features Online Play on PS2, and, assuming this goes well, the game should also be online in Europe come the release in October.

Bigger Editing Mode
In Pro Evolution Soccer 5 you will now be able to create even more accurate kits than ever before. In PES4 we saw the introduction of a sponsor editor, but sadly many kit styles (especially striped shirts) were missing from the game. This will not be the case in Pro Evolution Soccer 5.

Thanks for the info, all though not an all round information disclosure, I think you can read between the lines. As per Seabass (Konami PES Dev) interviews, PES5 will have little or no room for any real improvment on the PS2.

I would say like the little posted by poorCH , you'll get a few more stadiums and maybe new offical leagues and kits but not much more! You may be able to edit leagues (I hope they allow you to build your own and not just have a 20 team template as per PES4).

As for gameplay and AI or any of the big changes that will be in 2006 with PES6 or whatever they call it then, on the PS3 Xbox360 and PC.

Improved gameplay and physics - we don't need cosmetic changes, we need better passing and shooting system, better net and ball physics, even more realistic player movement, better AI and refs, better netcode and online mode... I don't think it's necessary to go on with the list. But maybe a stand-alone PC editor with the feature to add whole new leagues and edit everything in the game.

They need to make the gameplay better should be number 1 on thier list. The defence and keeper should be smarter, seriosuly sometimes the defence is dumbfounded by a through pass:| they either stop when the ball is coming and let it roll past em or they turn back and start running the other way :nape: They keeper are just idiots at times. I wanna also see more freeflowing pass like the one from football kingdom, also the ability to curve shots on your own, and curve passes to. Make the game much harder.

Spot on. I think the gameplay is the most important for me. People go on about Fifa being crap because of the scripting. I agree the scripting makes that game very frustrating, but I also find the scripting frustrating in PES. Eg and this is just one example, when the oponent has the ball and I try to position or move my player to the best position to tackle/shepherd there is scripting which makes him resist for long enough to put my defender at a disadvantage. He may try to run towards the ball but the best position is to aim him toward where the attacker is going with the ball, the scripting makes this difficult even though I am controlling the player. So improving player movement for one would immensly improve this game

Something I'd like to see changed if possible? extend the proximity of change of controlled player(s).

Example: I use manual control to change the player I want to control, but I find that when a cpu player gets the ball say 25yrds out from his own box, out wide right or left and my 2 forwards are in about the middle of the park same distance out! When the cpu player charges up the to the hafl way line with the ball, I want to bring my midfielder or fullback out to challenge him. But I can't , for when I click the shoulder pad to highlight a player I want, the icon just jumps between my 2 forwards as the are the only players in that half of the park.

It really is annoying when that happens , there are many more examples of it, I just wish konami would do something about it.

Seconded. Agreed. Signed. Spot on.

Especially the last part. Write a PC version for the love of god. Make use of the PCs advantages. Give us some dev kits. The ability to tweak and mod it. And I am not talking damn boot colors or Nike footballs. Physics, AI, Deflections, Behavior.

Absolutely agree and this is an important point, the need to switch to any player you wish and I cant see why it cant be implemented, but its the same in Fifa too which I also play.

Referees- not that important, but PES 5/WE9 could be maybe the first soccer game to have referees with whistles! In most games you can hear the whistles, but when you look at the ref he is just standing there. Also, add a few varied animations for cards and whatnot.

Also, better looking kits

Linesman running the touchline and signalling.

Improve some of the pitch textures

use the power bar for goal kicks.

OVERARM KEEPER THROW- can't be too hard, fifa has done it since at least an extremely long way back

Improve the edit mode

Better kits for the international teams

Personally I want some stuff people rarely mention.
I'd like music to play like FIFA's, that meaning no music for an specific area only, but music for the whole game, and you can play them randomly or make your own order.

Oh, and I absolutely loved WE8LE music. I hope they follow the same line.
And I hope they go back in a future to a WE6FE style interface, colourful menus, some eye-candy you know. WE7 and WE8's haven't nice on the eyes at all.

Pes for the last 2 years has been held back by the PS2.

There is no hardrive and the PS2 only has 32 mb memory and 8mb memory card.

IF konami improve the graphics they would then have to sacrifice number of teams/A.I. If the PS2 had a hardrive they could easily add as many teams they want, and use the hard drive as cache. They could easily do this for the XBOX and the PC version.

Things which could easily be fixed for PS2 version:
1) Power bar for goal kicks and throws, 1 press for height and 2 press for length.

2) Option of power bar for through balls. If you hold the button for a second a
power bar will appear. If you just press it normally you would get the standard through ball.

3) Option of power bar for passes using left stick. If you hold the button for a second a power bar will appear. If you just press it normally you would get the normal pass.

4) Improve manual cross. In PES4 you only get 1 height. They could use the sensible soccer/kick off aproach.

5) Power bar for throwins 1st press for height and 2nd press for power.

6) Fix the heading system. heading in PES is a joke. You have no control on when you jump, heigh of header, power of header and even direction of header especially for clearances.

7) Fix the slide tackle system. You should be able to control or at least affect the direction the ball wil go after a tackle. In anco's kick off if you reversed the stick after a slide tackly your player would keep hold of the ball after a slide tackle.

8) Stamina bar for the game. The faster you go the less stamina you get. This would stop people taking one fast player and running around the pitch at top speed for minutes. This should then allow konami to stop using speed cheating for the cpu player such as John Terry catching up with Henry who is ten meters away.

9) Stop player jumping/kicking/heading the ball without you pressing a button. This has got worse with each release of PES, konami thinks this is gameplay when it is infact a bug.

10) Update the tactics system. You should be ablt to select which players go up for or defending corners and freekicks like CM4.

PC version:
1) Linesmen/Manager/Physio
2) Add as many teams/players you want.
3) Longer replays.
4) Select your own music for the game. Save money by not using music most people don't ;listen to.
5) Season builder like CM4.
6) Real time lighting for stadiums from sunset to sunrise.
