View Full Version : Changed goalie-abilities in the next FIFARTWC-Update...(?)

I am planning on changing the stats a bit for all goalies in the game to make it a little easier to score long range shots and also to score directly on free kicks from quite far away... Earlier the keepers made incredible saves when they threw themselves from one post to the other to capture the ball that was going straight to the top corner without even leaving a rebound... These unrealistic saves will be no more... Free kicks close to the goal will be much more dangerous...
What do you guys think? Is this a good idea? I am currently experimenting with the stats to see what effect different stats have on goalie play. I have noticed that awareness is a very important factor for the keepers. Also reaction and agility is important. I'd like to see goalies give up more rebounds but I don't know what stat I should change to make them do this...
If someone knows more about what all the different stats does for goalie play, I'd be really happy if you could tell me...

But, most important I need thoughts of this idea. Is it a good one or are the keepers good as they are, or maybe they are even to bad?

Hey Web head I like that idea a lot...anything to make the game even more realistic sounds good to me,& I hope to see it in the next installment of the mighty updates.

regarding what goalie skill might cause more rebounds, the only logical skill would be to decrease a goalies ball control rating although I have not tried this myself.

happy hunting.

Sounds good you like the idea. At this moment it looks as I wont just decrease some stats for the keepers but make a new rating system for them, they wont have any stats over 70...
I'd like more comments... :)

it sounds as if it makes the game more realistic

I have now done the changing of the goalie-abilities and it seems to work quite well. What I did was to set Agility, Awareness and Ball Control to a minimum (39). This has now made it possible to score long range free kicks and the keepers leaves much more rebounds.
It actually feels really good. Look out for this in the next release.

If you have any comments or requests, just post them.

Well, it's old but it's still the best soccer game for PC... And I am not the only one who believes this!

However.

The Goalie-Update has been released! It's in version 3.3! Get it from http://www.fifartwc.cjb.net

Hey Melia...The Web head is right on when he sais that "it's still the best Fifa soccer game ever".
And until a PC soccer game with this many teams, nations, gameplay style & options is released it will remain the best ever.
One more factor to consider is the loyalty of it's fans...imagine 3 years later & we are still getting roster updates, graphic updates, GOD we are even enhancing game play through updates.
I think we are all addicted!!!

Well on a more serious note all the real fans of this game owe people like Nike the Bike (or Web head as I so kindly put it.)
Dario Munoz, Ruben Sosa & others a great big thank you for all their hard work & commitment on this ongoing project.

P.S love version 3.3---It only seems to get better guy's, way to go.

hate to a kill joy, but i think keeping the stats for world class keepers as they are make for a more challenging game. how often do the top keepers get beaten in set pieces?

BTW

what makes RTWC so great is that you can have great keepers who have weaknesses.

eg, seaman has high awareness (91) high ball control (87)but low agility as he's getting on a bit (71) and that means his positional sense and shot stopping is very good. However is very slow in coming off his line so I have given him low acceleration (63) and even lower speed (59). So, in corners and free kicks I tend to aim the ball in the direction of the far post so Seaman has a hard time of chasing the ball! 4/10 times he will miss the ball, so giving my team a chance to score (if Adams or Keown don't get there first!)

also David James is a very good keeper excellent agility (91) and quick reactions (87) his weakness is spilling the ball and his poor positional sense. To get this on fifa RTWC, give him very low awareness(39) and low ball control (39, sorry Villa Fans)and it works he spills and he looks silly! One time a shot rebound off the cross bar and came off the back of his head and went in!!( I swear) Another time against Wimbledon in a scrap James made a great grab for the ball on the goalline won the ball then dropped it in the goal.

one more tip.

I heard that Paraguay's former Keeper took free kicks. Do it on fifa RTWC and then see what happens.
The opposing team has an open goal!!!!!!!!

Watch him run back to the goal across thje half way line !!!!!!!!!!

FIFA IS REAL!!!!!

Been there, done that! (Chilavert)

Well, I am not sure... (About keeper stats)
I feel that making the keepers worse makes it easier for the computer to score (not only the human) and it makes it possible for the human to score more long range shots. Only the fact that you know you can score on long range shots make you shoot more from distance, from where you also miss more shots... (Just like real life). Atleast I do...
Because it is easier for the computer to score you also have to play better defence as the computer wont miss when he is alone with the keeper as he would have done before.

I don't think you score that often on free kicks now either but now it is possible to score the ball into the top corner! This was almost impossible earlier as the keepers only let in low shots close to the posts...

Try playing the game without using the sprint button as this will also make the gameplay more lifelike!

I'd like more comments on this.

The goalie update is really good (finally not Superman is minding the nets), and I think washingtone 17 has a great idea in pointing out the keepers' weak points. I'm gonna see whether it works. Does any of you have a tip for making keepers like Barthez (agile, TOO agile and sometimes he's crazy when going out of his line with 178 cms...) more realistic? I would like to see their all or nothing attitude when leaving their lines an flew away without the ball ;)

The problem is that some of the stats are a little overrated... If you give the keeper 99 awareness for example, you can give him 39 on speed, reaction and agility and he still makes unrealistic saves...

There is no pleasing you, Webmaster!

IMHO, by 'disimproving' the goalie stats you are not making them goalies.

How many games did any of the top keepers (in Europe) let in more than three goals in a game? It might LOOK unrealistic due to the graphics, but the abilities are realistic enough.

There are ways you can beat good keepers outside the box or in direct free kicks.

Tip one. The element of surprise like in real football. e.g. if you have a player with high shot power as soon as he receives the ball, press you joy pad in the OPPOSITE direction of where you intend to aim your shot, then quickly move the pad in the direction you want the shot to go then press and hold down the shot button. IT WORKS!!

Tip two. In direct free kicks, the best you can hope for is top corner shots a la Becks.

I've given Becks 99 shot power and accuracy, yet, in real life, he only scored 2 or 3 goals from direct free kicks.

How many did Effenberg, Milosevic, Roberto Carlos or even Rivaldo score from direct free kicks?

Keep the Keeper stats it makes for more challenging game!!!

ps Emgergo, how did your experiment go?

OK, you might have a point, maybe I should put a poll on the site to see what the public wants... However, I find it realistic when I play but as I have said many times before, I always play 5 minute games and never use the sprint button as playing without it makes the game play more realistic and it is harder to dribble through and there will be fewer shots on goal. Many real life goals are scored from outside the penalty area and I still think that the old stats made it too hard to score from outside the box for it to be realistic. I agree that I made it easy for me when I lowered all three categories to 39 but if someone would like to help me tweak the stats to make it better he's welcome.
One point though!
The old keepers left too few rebounds for it to be realistic! That is a FACT!
