Most people say the current Bayern team play a sweeper 3-5-2 or a 3-4(diamond)-3.

NOT on FIFA '98 RTWC.

I find they play more realistically a 5 (sweeper)-2(diamond)-3(flat) formation.

It works.

IMHO, Bayern's Strengths lie on three counts.

1 Their organisation
2 Their ability to defend a lead
3 Their clinical counter-attacking capabilities.

They are not a team full of flair and creativity, but they are strong, committed and have excellent technique.

All defenders have at least 87 tackling ability and have high ball control and awareness. I guess if their 5 defenders have a weakness it is their immobility (except Lizarazu and Salihamidzic (when he plays wing back). One on one with a quick attacker they might be exposed but that is only if you are able to isolate them (with another 4 defenders and Effenberg as cover it's a bit hard) AND you also have to beat Kahn (easier said than done).

The back 5 gives the team the foundation they need. All defenders are comfortable on the ball and can therefore support the two world-class midfielders in central and wide areas in the middle of the park.

Jeremies and Effenberg compliment each other very well.

Effenberg has excellent distribution and tackling. Make him a bit of a nuttier and he will defend his back 5 admiringly when needed.

Both have high awareness and ball control and obviously both can pass very well. They also have high Shot Power and Accuracy.

As Jeremies has a limited number of points to muck about with, I gave him 39 speed, acceleration and tackling but that does not effect his game as his high reaction, awareness and passing helps him distribute the ball quickly and effectively.

With the three attackers I chose to play Elber as target man plus two wingers Scholl on the left and Salihamidzic on the right (both can play on either flank and both can also tackle quite well).

Of course, this leaves Jancker on the bench, but this is exactly what Ottmar Hitzfeld did against Real Madrid and Valencia in the Champions League this season.

More over with wingers, Bayern have players with higher ball control and creativity who are able to expose teams in counter attacking moves.

To make the counter attack moves more effective give Bayern an all out attacking strategy

Watch out for Jeremies in set pieces!!!!

(sorry a bit rushed)

FIFA '98 RTWC is real
