By the way, Marchionni just scored for Parma against Empoli.
And the good news keep on coming...

Yay, the best foreigner in Serie A enters the pitch for Trezegol. Let's spice the 2nd half up a bit.

Socrates
29-01-2006, 03:22:PM
Trez's first goal was very nice, the other two where tap ins. Good paly by DP on the second goal.

Ascoli is not doing so bad atm, they need to finish a bit better. Zambro has been pretty bad so far. Foggia keeps going past him like he isnt there, Zambro just keeps fouling him. Ferrante's goal was pretty nice too.

Ibra fouled Domizzi but nothing called instead Domizzi gets carded for complaining too much lol.

Juventino

No use calling for that Ibra foul on Domizzi, it was already the keeper's ball anyway.

Yea i just thought it was funny that he got carded instead haha.

1-3 FT. Good match for Juve.

I think it's good how we played the 2nd half, spared use some powers for the busy schedule the coming months.

Good win for us, raised the players' morale a bit.
We didn't struggle that much to win, we just played many short passes and then a long ball to Trezeguet or to Del Piero (rarely 'though). Trezeguet is the man of the match, no doubt about it. There were also notable performances from Del Piero, who had some great chances, and Nedved who made a lot of effort. All in all, a great win, but as I said, I just feel sorry for Buffon, he only had bad luck since that injury.

IceBlu

Trezeguet's first goal was quality! A left footed half volley isn't something we're used to seeing Trezgol doing.

The other 2 goals were routine for him :) Just when Toni was running away once again, Trez steps with a hattrick. Del Piero is in a rich vein of form. He was unlucky not to have scored himself but he created the 2nd and the 3rd for Trez to just tap in.

The press are eager to treat every minor slip up as the beginning of some sort of a crisis. I don't blame them since a neutral would like a more closely contested fight for the scudetto. But anyone considering Juve to be losing touch is fooling himself.

great game... finally i'm calm a bit. zebina did actually pretty well for a first league game after missing half a season...i personally never hated him... hope it all works out with him because we need his experience in the later and more important stages of the season... with all do respect it's hard to rely on cheillini/balzaretti... zebina is a great plus and i hope he improves even more.
Edit: also noticed this pattern of a blitz of goals in a short amount of time... same happend against Roma and some other team... deadly and useful :rockman:

Zebina given Juve chance

Monday 30 January, 2006

Jonathan Zebina has been given an opportunity to save his Juventus career after boss Fabio Capello blocked his sale to Tottenham.

The London club were close to signing the Frenchman before the January window closes, but Capello insisted that he still needed the right-back for the rest of the season.

"Jonathan Zebina, unfortunately, fell away last night with his going to Tottenham," First Artist agent Jon Smith told Sky Sports News.

"The Juventus Coach, Fabio Capello, just changed his mind at the last minute. So that's gone away."

Spurs stepped up their interest in the stopper after he conceded last week that his time at Juventus was coming to an end.

The former Cagliari and Roma man had infuriated officials after asking for a new improved contract at the Stadio Delle Alpi.

However, Zebina has this afternoon offered an olive branch to the outfit which may see him continue his Old Lady adventure.

"I’ve already said too much," he stated. "The club officials and myself have promised each other to only discuss footballing matters until now and the end of the season.

"We will act as intelligent people."

It’s believed that Zebina, who has missed most of this term with injury, asked for his current £1.4m a season deal to be doubled.

Zebina – who is fighting for a place in France’s World Cup squad – has also attracted the interest of Milan, Arsenal, Newcastle and Liverpool.

__________________________________________________ ___

Yeah I agree with Capello here. I'm not Zebina's biggest fan but unless Juve get a replacement they shouldn't sell him. He can leave at the end of the season when Juve have more time to sign a quality RB.

The (logical) options Juve have are :

1. Zambrotta at RB, Chiellini at LB
2. Balzaretti at RB, Zambrotta at LB
3. Zebina at RB, Zambrotta at LB..

of those No. 3 is probably the safest bet so its good that Capello decided to hold on to him.

Football Italia are doing a "all-time" greatest 11 lineup for all the major Italian teams...

heres what they came up with for Juve.

Dino ZOFF 1967-72
Became a national hero when, at the age of 40, he captained Italy to World Cup glory. But Zoff had continually proved to be a consistent performer for Juventus prior to that triumph when he established himself as No 1 in Turin for 11 years after joining from Napoli in 1972. Won six Serie A titles, two Italian Cups and a UEFA Cup. Would later have a brief coaching stint with the club before going on to mange the Azzurri.

Gaetano SCIREA 1974-86
Elegance personified. A sweeper from the old school who would become an international regular for over a decade. He read the game as if he had studied it the night before. Scirea was a model professional and born leader. Tragically died in 1989 in a road accident while on a scouting mission for the club in Poland. Was a key member in the Azzurri side that won the 1982 World Cup. Made 377 League appearances for Juve.

Antonello CUCCUREDDU 1969-81
Picked up a staggering six championships with Juve between 1971 and 1981. A powerful defender who went on to win international honours. Started his career in Serie C with Torres in 1967, before joining Brescia for one term a year later.

Claudio GENTILE 1973-84
They don’t build defenders like this anymore. Uncompromising stopper who became a regular for the Bianconeri in his second season in Turin. Signed from Varese, Gentile made man marking an art form. Like Cuccureddu won six Serie A titles. Gentile played a starring role in the 1982 World Cup triumph.

Antonio CABRINI 1976-89
Joined Juventus in 1976 from Atalanta and instantly became a hit on the domestic and international scene. Equipped with a graceful left foot, many believe Juventus have never really replaced him. Another member of the 1982 World Cup winning team, he made history by missing a penalty in the Final against West Germany.

Marco TARDELLI 1975-85
A midfield general who joined the Bianconeri in 1975 from Serie B side Como. His impact was so immense that, less than a year later, he had already made his full international debut in a 3-1 win over Portugal. A veteran of five Scudetto triumphs and a key figure in Juve’s European success in the early 1980s. Went on to both play and Coach Inter.

Giampiero BONIPERTI 1946-61
An attack-minded midfielder who holds a club record of 444 appearances - with 178 goals - in Serie A. Originally started his career as a striker before being slowly moved into a deeper position. Would go on to become club captain and play for the Azzurri 38 times. Also became President of the club before quitting in the 1990s.

Zinedine ZIDANE 1996-01
Joined Juventus in 1996 from Bordeaux. The talented Frenchman would quickly establish himself as the world’s best player. Won two championships, a European Super Cup, a World Club Cup and an Italian Super Cup. Left for £48m to join Real Madrid where he hoped to fulfil his ambition of winning the Champions League after finishing runner-up with the Old Lady on two occasions.

Michel PLATINI 1982-87
The most influential player in Juve’s recent history. A true No 10 and midfield genius who could score more often than most strikers and hit passes of 40-50 yards to a teammate’s feet. European Player of the Year from 1983 to 1985 and an important cog in the success of the Bianconeri and the French national side.

Omar SIVORI 1957-65
Volatile South American forward with the scoring skills of John Charles, who could easily replace Sivori in this line-up, and the disciplinary record of Paolo Montero. Netted 134 League goals for the club in the late 1950s and early 60s. Finished as Capocannoniere in 1960 with 27 goals and scored six in Juve’s 9-1 defeat of Inter in 1960-61.

Roberto BAGGIO 1990-95
For the early part of the 1990s Roberto Baggio was Juventus. Having signed on the eve of the 1990 World Cup Finals for a world record £8m, his sale led to riots in the streets of Florence. A pony-tailed genius who played his best football in Turin, Baggio ended his stay in 1995 when the club were crowned champions of Italy.

THE COACH:
Giovanni TRAPATTONI 1976-86 & 91-94
Coached Juventus in a club record 402 Serie A games over two spells in Turin. His first was significantly more successful than his last as Juventus went on to rule the roost at home and abroad. Labelled as defensive by some while with the Old Lady, Trap is Italy’s most successful boss ever.

_________________________________________________

So what do you think ?

I'd replace Zidane with Nedved. You can't possibly include Zidane and leave out Pavel. Deschamps should be in there somewhere as well.

Also, I'd replace Baggio with Del Piero. No all-time Juve list is complete without Del Piero.

In all fairness, its impossible to come up with a definite 11 because you're leaving out so many legends.

Bettega, Boneik, Charles, Kohler, Zambrotta, Conte, Montero, Capello, Brady, Jugovic, Laudrup, Boksic, Rossi, Vialli, Trezeguet, Davids, Buffon, Di Livio, Thuram, Pessotto, Ferrara, Schillaci, Ravanelli, Sousa, Moller, Locatelli, Vierchowod, Parola, Rava etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

Juventino
30-01-2006, 07:57:PM
Maybe Lippi instead of Trap, I know Trap is the most succesfull Juve coach ever, but Lippi did it in a shorter amount of time. Also Nedved and Del Piero in there somewhere. But I have double feelings with it. Zidane also won a golden ball with Juve, 2 CL finals... Baggio a golden ball, world player of the year... sheer magic. but I think if they make a new list in 10 years, Nedved and Ale will be there. But it's hard to make one for a club that already exists for over 100 years, and constantly had phenomenal players. We had some magic teams in those 100 years... I think it's the hardest leaving out Charles and Bettega. It's a fun thing to think about. :p

Real planning £30m Ibra raid Tuesday 31 January, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Real Madrid are lining up a sensational bid for Juventus striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to reports in Spain.

Los Merengues are desperate to return to their former glories and Spanish daily, AS, reports that they are willing to spend up to £30m to recruit the services of Ibrahimovic, whom Real President Florentino Perez sees as the ideal partner to Ronaldo.

The report seems to mirror reality with Ibrahimovic’s agent today confirming that the Liga outfit are keen on his client.

"I can confirm Real’s interest," Mino Raiola told Italian magazine Guerin Sportivo. "They tried to sign him a few months ago, but Juventus said no. It is clear that Zlatan is liked by the Spaniards."

The talented Swedish star has been a huge hit since signing for the Bianconeri for £11.5m in 2004. In his first season at Turin the 22-year-old became a linchpin of the side, scoring 16 goals on the way to Juve’s 28th League title.

This season, though, Ibrahimovic has not been as influential, scoring just three goals in 22 appearances, and has seen his place come increasingly under threat from the resurgent Alessandro Del Piero and the prolific David Trezeguet.

The international is still considered by Juve, and particularly Coach Fabio Capello, as the jewel in the crown of their currently indomitable side and would be reluctant to relinquish such a prodigious talent.

The temperamental former Ajax man, however, has yet to sign a new lucrative contract that was reportedly put before him several weeks ago and with Real Madrid throwing admiring glances in his direction, could be tempted to move to the Spanish capital.

However, Raiola insists that talks regarding an improved deal at the Delle Alpi have not begun.

"I represent Zlatan and I can say that we are not discussing a new contract and we have no appointments scheduled with regard to an extension," underlined Raiola. "There is no problem between the club’s directors and the boy is happy with life in Turin."

its not that they are counting his goals as half goals. if you do the mathematics he is getting 1 point for every goal. toni and the others are getting 2 meaning 1 goal counts as 2 points. and the fact that the italian league is far more difficult. so he is getting credited with full goals but not with the bonus.

transfer window is closed and no one came to juve. that is great! well atleast i dont think no one came. did marchionni officially sign for us?

i expected as much. juve go out and of course its an unimportant trophy. capello fielded a team to win, don't give that excuse.

i dont really see how roma are a disgrace, i guess it's just the easy insult.

MOM: mexes. he won literally every ball in the air, alot of the play came through him from the back and his tackles were precise. him and chivu solidifying our backline is a big reason why we are improving dramatically.

IceBlu
01-02-2006, 10:06:PM
it would have been an unimportant trophy even if Juve had stayed in. Capello fielded the weakest possible 11 last time around or else Juve wouldn't have been 3-0 down at home in the first place.

then when Del Piero came on and gave us some hope, Capello decided to field a stronger lineup.

The trophy is the least important on the agenda and the only reason its a little frustrating is that the club is 1 shy of the silver star. Otherwise it means virtually nothing.

i have to disagree, the penalty was the right call. it was forsure unintentional, perrotta was turning his head as it hit his hand but it deviated the ball from going into a scoring position.

it had to be called. even though im pretty sure it would have been cleared had it made it past perrotta.

although the disallowed goal was pure bull****.

did zlatan deserve the red? what happend anyway?

nedved horrifically tackled totti from behind(warranted a red card) and about 2-3 secs later, zlatan kicked the ball at totti while he was on the ground. then dacourt pushed zlatan in retaliation. i don't think ibra or dacourt should have received reds, but if one went the other had too. nedved though :nape:, ugly challenge from behind.

How can you support Italy with Totti in the starting 11?

The guy was diving all over the pitch and thought he won the CL with the way he acted after the game. You won a Coppa Italia ¼ final round you douche. lol

fact is everyone was diving on the pitch. i mean everyone. every tackle was late, players left there feet in. there is just bad blood. so dont just go off saying totti was diving all over the pitch, unless your ready to share the criticism. hell del piero was on the pitch for 30 mins and dove just as much. with you guys there is just no arguing with totti because your mind is set on him.

and imo, how can you not support an italy without totti in it. the only people who i have heard say this are juventus fans. i'm not just saying on this forum, i mean in terms of my city and some of my friends. because of totti's hate of juventus, i know it effects their opinion on him. of course you can look back on past tournaments but then again you can look back on many players and say the exact same thing.

italianstyle87
02-02-2006, 06:34:AM
don't come to the rescue of totti

if you're trying to place totti and del piero in the same league with reference to sportsmanship and professionalism you're a lost cause

fact is, totti is a damn c*nt of a bloke, and damn good player

both of these characteristics are products of eachother, but he's reputation on the world stage is poor, doubters of his national team worth are 100% justified

he'll have the team revoloving around him in germany, maybe this time he'll perform, or maybe he'll prove all his critics right again

As much as I want Italy to win the WC, I'd hate to see him go down as The One who led Italy to World Cup glory.

modena_10
02-02-2006, 07:36:AM
well your hate for him must be deep then. so obviously since you don't want italy to win with him and want him to suffer a career ending injury then your opinion is set in stone. but for me whoever will lead italy to glory, whether it be in germany or the future will have my support, regardless of who the player is or will be. the second the put on the jersey, the only thing that matters to me is the team.

italianstyle, i dont remember saying anything about totti's sportsmanship and professionalism in comparison to del piero. i merely said the players were diving, either to gain advantage on the foul or to protect themselves from chippy fouls.

and in defending totti, it's just something you do with your favourites. no one likes to see their favourite player ragged on. so when someone does insult them, that players supporter will come to his defence. i know many of you have done so with del piero, so you know where im coming from when i defend totti. simple as that.

Yeah well, in all honesty I wouldn't care who won Italy the WC either but I'd prefer if it wasn't him.

But if Del Piero doesn't get included in the squad and Totti ends up doing supremely well, I'd be pretty bitter.

oh my lord!!! i have just seen the replays!

first of all out of all the cards that were handed out in that mad minute id give nedved the most punishment. climbing all over totti, my god! but then again sometimes totti asks for it the cocky bastardo.

now on ibra and dacourt: seriously that ref mustve given the reds only coz he got caught up in the middle. that shouldve been a yellow to both players. the ref made it out to be bigger than it was. i say someone send this ref to the gallows. absolutely pathetic officiating there. might have cost juve the tie. we were badly hurt in that respect. a forward getting sent off is terrible.

good luck roma angainst palermo!

I don't know if Serie A is finally getting some consistency (although be it in the wrong place) but last week in Inter and Lazio's Coppa Italia game Burdisso and Di Canio were both sent off for stupid reasons. Di Canio put Burdisso in a head lock and Burdisso just pushed Di Canio to get away from him and they both got sent off.

I guess they are cracking down on stupid scirmishes or something. Who knows? :nape:

Juve set sights on ‘new Vieira’
Thursday 2 February, 2006
Juventus are contemplating a move for Ivory Coast international Yaya Touré, according to reports in Italy.

The combative midfielder has won over numerous admirers after a series of fine displays in the African Cup of Nations, with Chelsea and Arsenal among them.

Touré’s international teammate Didier Drogba has already reported back to manager José Mourinho with a favourable account of the player, whom he likens to Patrick Vieira.

"He is the new Vieira," said Drogba recently. "He even has the same body shape as him, as well as a similar game."

The 22-year-old, though, is said to be keen on a move to Arsenal, where he would team up with his brother Kolo.

"I am flattered by the interest that Chelsea have shown, but it would be pretty hard to beat playing alongside your brother," said the Olympiakos player recently.

Arsenal have only recently bought Auxerre midfielder Vasiriki Abou Diaby, however, and might be reluctant to invest in yet another young midfielder, even if they are still struggling to come to terms with the loss of the man to whom Touré has been compared.

Juventus, on the other hand, are interested in grooming Touré to become the successor to the Frenchman.

OMG... iv'e watched the replay too... one of the worst referee decisions i've seen... stupid referee trying to be a hero... zlatan actually pretty calm (more than usual)..dacourt deserved it... zlatan deserved yellow. bah another lame referre mistake just keeps destroying zlatan's reputation. i agree with Capello.
the look on zlatan's face says it all.. the same look i had after seeing this. just shameful

juveforever what are you talking about? why are you being so biased. yes it is great to be a zlatan fan and all but seriously think about what you are saying. why should dacourt go and not zlatan too? dacourt deserved as much as zlatan. but what they deserved shouldnt have been red!

i've watched it carefully. biased ? no... first of all i'm a JUVE fan. sure i like zlatan but... both of them deserved yellow.. but Dacourt was the one who ran at zlatan and started the whole mess. im not yet sure if zlatan kicked the ball at totti by accident (either way he deserves it). and finally it's my opinion. I always justify juve players no matter what... that's the kind of fan i am after cheering for juve for almost ten years now.

agreed. dacourt and zlatan should have both been cautioned. i thought nedved should have received the more serious of the offence.

but yeah, dondarini had bad game. of course the reds, the disallowed goal, and a bunch of obvious dives. i think coming into the tie, he felt he needed to assert himself and show the players he has control of the game because of past games where tensions got in the way of the play. but with his harsh decisions he affected the game in a different way.

Emerson is January’s “Player of the Month”

http://www.juventus.com/Allegati/f_Emerson%20194142089e095bc-d6ae-45af-b6f4-efb01932543.jpg

The “Player of the Month” is the award given to the Juventus players from the fans. And there were many of them, this afternoon, in front of the Juventus Store in Via Garibaldi. Several boys, girls, adults and kids, everyone was there to meet the winner of the month of January: Emerson. The Brazilian talent, great mid-fielder together with his mate Vieira, and inspirer of many, many Juventus goals, went to the appointment with the supporters and the journalists with the usual smile. It is always a pleasure to receive a recognition, especially when it comes from whoever lives Juventus as a flaming passion, and uncontrollable faith, an ordinary and infinite love.

http://www.juventus.com/Allegati/f_Emerson%20394159089e095bc-d6ae-45af-b6f4-efb01932543.jpg

Nice and helpful, the Puma answered to the questions of the many journalists crowd, even more numerous than usual because of the proximity of the Winter Olympic Games. They asked him about the recent elimination from the Italian Cup and Emerson showed all of his character. “Surely it is never nice to be eliminated from an important competition”, the Brazilian stated. “We played a nice match at the Olimpico but, also because of some bad-luck, it was not enough. Now what really counts it turn the defeat into a motivation. Sunday we need to play an excellent match against Udinese and go back to winning right the way”. Perseverance and willingness of winning, the recipe of a champion.

http://www.juventus.com/Allegati/f_Emerson94355089e095bc-d6ae-45af-b6f4-efb01932543.jpg

“Some people say that sometimes I act like a coach on the pitch. Surely I don’t like to lose, I always want to come out of the pitch as a winner and it happens that I try to spread this characteristic of mine among my team mates. I push them, I try to help them with my motivation when I see them in difficulty”. Once the questions from the press were over, it is the turn of the young Juventus Soccer School players. Little Gianluca Femia, Matteo Iannone, Fabio Luongo, Andrea Murdocca and Gioele Piacquadio did not have to be asked twice, and after a nice group picture and a video that will travel the world – to film there were even some Japanese cameramen – the young journalists interviewed the Brazilian champion. An afternoon to be told to all their team mates.

When the mini-press conference was finished Emerson came out of the store and from Via Garibaldi it could be heard a roar worth of the Delle Alpi. Always with a smile on his lips, Puma pleased tens and tens of supporters looking for autographs and memory pictures.

Emerson wanted Grand Slam
Friday 3 February, 2006
Juventus midfielder Emerson has expressed his disappointment at his side’s Italian Cup exit at the hands of Roma. "We wanted to do the Grand Slam," he said.

Juve are unquestionably having an extraordinary 2005-06. Eight points clear of their nearest rivals in Serie A and going strong in the Champions League, the Bianconeri clearly wanted to sweep the board this campaign.

However, Roma saw to that on Wednesday as Juve’s 1-0 win fell just short of taking them into the last four of the competition and, although the Italian champions have bigger fish to fry this season, the result still rankles with Emerson.

"We are disappointed at going out because we wanted to do well in the Coppa Italia in order to complete the Grand Slam," he said. "But it didn’t happen because we got the first leg wrong."

The opening tie saw Juve go a surprising 3-0 down on home soil, before staging a late recovery tanks to two goals by Alessandro Del Piero at the Stadio Delle Alpi.

But despite their concerted efforts and Patrick Vieira hitting the post late on, the Bianconeri could only muster a 1-0 win in Rome and went out on away goals.

"With a little bit of luck we would be talking about the next Cup match," added the Brazil international.

"Still, the disillusionment isn’t that great because we are still doing well and now we can concentrate on the League and on the Champions League."

One player who is disillusioned at the moment, though, is Zlatan Ibrahimovic whose increasingly disappointing season was compounded by a sending off after just 20 minutes in Rome.

"Zlatan is down," revealed Emerson. "This time he didn’t do anything wrong. He’s not agitated, he’s fine in training. He’s just going through a tough time with the Press at the moment. They are always on his back."

Ibrahimovic has just three League goals to his name and has not scored since November 19 – a return which is disappointing for a striker who scored 16 top-flight goals last term.

His red card also earned him a club fine as it is the second time this season he has been given his marching orders for a petulant reaction.

"We mustn’t forget that he has set up a lot of goals this season," continued Emerson. "That is very important to us."

what a guy! this guy is a champ! i tell you one think he is a very very good sportsman and tells it how it is. i mean we have all said that the coppa italia isnt important. but to juve it still burns. ofcoarse this is surely because of the fact that juve is a team built on skills and success. so as emerson said to go out of a cup is dissappointing.

i think the italian press should also wake up to emersons comments on ibra. it is not jst about scoring. he sets up goals which is important to us is what emerson said. i remember watching a zlatan ibrahimovic/domenica sportiva interview (which is available on google video by the way) 2 months ago. zlatan was asked the question about not scoring as much. he answered it similar to this: i am a football player, in football your main aim is to win for the team. if i see someone in a better position to score i will try to pass it to that player to score.

anyways its now back to the serie a with the match against udinese on sunday.

 Emerson

what a leader, he's an example to anyone. He's a real general in the midfield. Without him we're screwed.

other note, this Wednesday we play against a future Juventino...Marco Marchionni. Here's an interview with him about Juve and other stuff.(sorry, it's in Italian).

«Dall’esterno è difficile dirlo, vedi otto punti e ti sembrano troppi.

Proprio non ci pensa all’azzurro?
’’

Marchino, Marchino, Marchino.

«Finora l’ho sentita soltanto in tivù.

Ecco, vorrei fare come lui. Lasciare il Parma in A».

A stipendio come state?

«Siamo a posto.

Lei all’estero ci andrebbe?

«Come esperienza mi affascina.

Ronaldinho, ecco».

Prendiamo Del Piero.

«Ultimamente no, siamo sempre in campo.

Capello eyes Udinese danger
Saturday 4 February, 2006
Fabio Capello believes Udinese can pose a threat to Juventus this weekend, but has again suggested Zlatan Ibrahimovic is being victimised.

“Ibrahimovic is penalised far too often by referees and linesmen,” he said after the Swede’s red card against Roma in the Coppa Italia midweek.

“He’s a big lad and people who clatter into him seem to come off worse, but that strength only lulls officials into a mistake on who committed the foul in the first place.”

However, the former Ajax man was dismissed due to a scuffle with Olivier Dacourt when play had already been stopped.

“I know he reacts impetuously at times and I have chided him for this repeatedly, but he should not have been sent off against Roma,” continued Capello. “We are happy with his overall performances this season and the fact he has only scored three goals is irrelevant, as he has churned out assists.”

The Bianconeri have an eight-point lead at the top of the table and expect to pick up their 20th win in 23 games when struggling Udinese visit the Stadio Delle Alpi.

“I have seen definite improvements in the Friuli side over the last three matches. They did well against Roma last weekend while there were still 11 men on the field, earned an important point with Fiorentina and went through to the Coppa Italia semi-finals. With Sulley Ali Muntari and Vincenzo Iaquinta returning, their squad is also bolstered.”

Nonetheless, Serse Cosmi must do without the suspended Giampaolo Pinzi, Roberto Baronio, Cesare Natali and Tissone, while Marco Motta, Nestor Sensini, Chris Obodo and Juarez are also unavailable.

Juventus have to do without the suspended Patrick Vieira, plus Jonathan Zebina and Robert Kovac remain sidelined.

“There’s a long way to go yet and we must remain concentrated until the end, showing the same determination we’ve had until now,” warned the tactician.

I really don't understand what formation we are playing, I think it's 4-1-3-2 because our midfield is with Emerson, Nedved, Camoranesi and Mutu. But it's strange 'cause I see Nedved on the right, Mutu on the left and Camoranesi in a central position going to the left or to the right when he attacks. Pretty complicated, eh?

Let's hope we see a nice match today.

Final time, 1-0. I'm happy with the result, Udinese is always a tough team to play against. Mutu, Zambrotta and Del Piero stood out the most I think, Ibrahimovic and Nedved being the weakest links today. We could have scored more but De Sanctis had some very nice saves, at 3 or 4 difficult shots. Now off to Parma!

DP's goal was offside but I think that'S the 1st call we got this year. :|
A draw would have been a fair result. Udinese could of claimed a pk near the end but I think Vidigal handled the ball just before and might have been offside.

Less than average game.. capello with yet another new formation. luckily Alex is our savior yet again. I think nedved had a great match and was very involved. Zlatan is slowly regaining his confidence and i hope he improves and the bad luck leaves him. my ray of light was actually Balzaretti; the dude fought for every ball and ran like mad.. Good job from him :)
Oh and Milan dude; don't worry about us... i think you have bigger concerns at home in Milan...

So typical of people to make a big deal out of couple of decisions going Juve's way.

Inter are fuming at the offside goal.

This is like the first significant decision that has gone Juve's way all season... like Moggi pointed out, the clear penalty which wasn't given against Chievo; but no .. no one talks about that. And if i recall correctly, couple of legit goals were wrongfully disallowed as well but no one mentions that either. When the opposing team gets lucky, its a deserved win but when even a slightly controversial call goes Juve's way, its seen as an aid by the referee.

Referees make mistakes with the offside call pretty often really. This was Juve's first offside goal all season :| Why is that a big deal?

You know what though? With Juve taking on Inter next weekend, beating them like we did earlier in the season would be the ideal way to shut them up.

hey ice, dont worry mate. these guys are pathetic. they are so quick to judge everything. i mean first of all we must look at the goal properly. if no one has seen it i will upload it right away. the linesman wasnt positioned in the right area. it was the linesmans fault for not keeping up with play. so to everyone who is quick to judge things i suggest you take a look at replays to show you why the goal was allowed.

djperthglory
06-02-2006, 11:34:PM
guys here is the pic at the moment of release. you will see that the referees asistant is virtually in line with zambrotta who is passing the ball. he is 2 metres out of position and thats why the goal was allowed. why are some people just so stupid and judgemental all the time. 19 wins 2 draws and 1 loss we never had any comments. as soon as that record goes to 20-2-1 everyone starts jumping.

yes juventino ur right, but i wasnt talking about the camera view. i was talking about the positioning of the assistant referee. thats why the goal was given i mean if you look at where he is how is he meant to rule offside when there are 5 players in front of him?

One bad decision is one thing, two is bad, but 3 AWFUL calls in one game cannot be ignored.

Its true that Juve havent really had the help of refs this season (not like theyve needed it regardless), but this weekends game definately made up for lost time.

Wrong. One bad decision or three, it affected the outcome of One game.

3 awful calls do not compensate for whatever lost time you're on about since after all its 3 points.

The only reason people are mad is that Juve are so far ahead.

take the two points off juve, and inter would still be 6 behind, now what excuse is there?

Inter accuse Serie A officials of bias towards Juve
ROME, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Players and staff at Inter Milan have accused Serie A match officials of being biased towards Juventus after the Serie A leaders' controversial 1-0 win against Udinese at the weekend.

The result maintained Juve's eight-point cushion over Inter before their top-of-the-table clash at the San Siro on Sunday.

Inter were especially angry over Alessandro Del Piero's winning goal, which video replays showed was scored from a clearly offside position.

They also pointed out several other incidents that had favoured Juve, including a misjudged call for offside when Udinese striker Vincenzo Iaquinta went through alone on goal early on, the 37th-minute sending off of Udinese midfielder Sulley Muntari for a non-existent foul on Pavel Nedved and a rejected appeal for a penalty.

"It's impossible that Juventus gets favourable treatment from the referees," Inter coach Roberto Mancini said with deep irony. "I've seen the television images and I say that Del Piero's goal was good, Muntari's red card right and Vidigal's penalty appeal without any basis at all."

His bitterness was shared by the club's president Giacinto Facchetti.

"Why should we be amazed? Juve has so many resources it can draw on," he said.

Juventus's director general Luciano Moggi hit back at the accusations, pointing out that his side had the best attack in the division, despite being given only one penalty all season.

"In football a referee can make a mistake just like a striker in front of goal. The important thing is to overdramatise the situation," he said.

Some of Inter's players, however, could not hide their frustration.

Midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron claimed the bias towards the team from Turin was long-established.

"Those of us that have been playing in Italy for 10 years are used to it," he said.

"The whole thing is absurd and in all this time nothing has been done to change it."

Inter captain Javier Zanetti was more moderate, but said he hoped the refereeing was of a higher standard when they played Juventus on Sunday.

"Well done to Juventus for winning thanks to a goal scored in offside. These things never happen to us," he said.

"In 11 years in Italy I've seen it all -- sometimes even worse than this. But all we can do is believe that referees act in good faith, otherwise we couldn't continue playing.

"As far as Sunday's match goes, I'd like it if (Pierluigi) Collina could act as referee. Unfortunately he's no longer (refereeing)."

Juventus - Parma | Serie A 24th Matchday

Wednesday night the twenty-fourth match-day of the A Series will be played, with Juventus busy at the Delle Alpi against Parma. Only three days after the match against Udinese, Juventus is thus back on the pitch in front of its supporters to try to achieve the twenty-first win, the 13th consecutive at home in this marvellous season. However, the opposing team is not an easy one, and it will make things tough for Juventus.

The Udinese ranking, even after some leaps of recover, keeps on being risky, and in order to conjure the recession nightmare or the playoffs away, as it happened last year, Beretta’s boys need to gain points in every occasions. This is why they will not hold back even in front of the league leader. With 26 goals scored, Parma is one of the most prolific teams of the medium-low chart. Keeping the goal feeling, would allow to Beretta and his players to totally head towards salvation and to play its own cards even at the Delle Alpi.

Against a Juventus that with Udinese achieved the twelfth consecutive home win. A suffered success, earned thanks to the determination of the players that, gritting their teeth, were able to pass the aware rear guard of Udinese, with Del Piero scoring after having got close to the goal for almost one hour. Having done twelve, against Parma Juventus aims to doing thirteen…wins at the Delle Alpi, obviously.

Moggi said it best, last weekend was the 1st time Juve got help from the referee this year and said that we lost a Supercup because of the ref vs INTER and that the count so far is about 8-1 for INTER in the "help from the refs" department. So Inter should shut up.

Juventus work on Inter Milan video nasty
- February 8, 2006

Juventus are reportedly working on a DVD that shows favouritism from referees towards Inter Milan!

Tuttosport says Juve officials are working with RAI TV executives to put together the 'anti-Inter' video nasty. The move comes after high-level Inter officials suggested Juve were favoured by match officials following Sunday's controversial victory over Udinese.

The DVD highlights six games this season where Inter appear to have enjoyed the rub of the green from referees: Juve-Inter in the Supercoppa, Lazio-Inter, Siena-Inter, Inter-Parma in the Coppa Italia, Inter-Cagliari and Treviso-Inter.

Asked about the DVD this morning, Inter coach Roberto Mancini shrugged: "They're free to do what they like ..."

Increased the lead, but there is a bitter sweet feeling with a missed penalty meaning Juve could have been 2 extra points clear.

Maybe both Inter and Juve had an eye on the weekend, Ibra only played half a game, looks like he was rested, even Zambrotta came off early, and Camoranesi didn't start. All of these players tend to have auto-starting positions

It's just on to Inter now.

Fabio Capello: “We earned a point today. There are a few regrets, as it could’ve been another two in our tally, but we were lucky with the other results rather than our own. This frozen pitch is causing us problems, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Gianluca Zambrotta picked up muscular injuries and the full-back will definitely not be ready to face Inter on Sunday.”

Damnit... that's a pretty big blow... we're already so thin on those areas. He's the only certainty.

ibra needs to play, he always causes some sort of havoc against inter

imagine chiellini and balzaretti starting in the full-back positions :|

i'd even prefer thuram out to right-back and kovac starting in the middle

IceBlu

wouldn't worry too much about it. Perhaps some mind games there since Capello was all too eager to talk about the injuries to his players right after the game. No diagnosis can be complete so soon after a game and Im sure further tests will be conducted to find out how serious the injuries actually are.

I think both will play tbh.

As for the draw... whatever. If both Inter and Juve won, the difference would be same. Now Inter lost and Juve earned a point. So its all good.

Zlatans bald look suits him (Y) .. .loved how he signalled to the bench after he scored. Hope for at least 10 more from him this season in all competitions.

I hope Capello will find the right formula for the defence... Zlatan should play because he always annoys Inter's defence and he also scored 2 goals against them in pre-season. hope Zambrotta's injury isn't severe... 3 more days..

Samp set 'to boycott Juve'
Saturday 11 February, 2006
Sampdoria have threatened to boycott their game with Juventus in protest over television rights.

“If things don’t change before Saturday March 4, then we will not run out for the Juve match,” warned President Riccardo Garrone.

Samp are among the clubs battling to get smaller sides a fairer cut of the television rights pie and blame the big three for scooping up the majority of the profits.

“When Juve come to Genoa, as I’ve already explained to director Antonio Giraudo, they will be met by an empty stadium. The Bianconeri and Milan are the leaders of the major clubs who in these years have prevented the smaller outfits from having the resources they need to survive. It seems that they are determined to be the only ones benefiting from the cash-cow that is the Champions League.”

Lega Calcio President Adriano Galliani and Vice-President Maurizio Zamparini had suggested there was hope of reaching an agreement, but Garrone has slammed the door on compromise.

“Things have to change, as we want to see where this is going and make sure any written agreement will guarantee our future in the division of television rights. Once upon a time a handshake deal was enough, but that’s no longer the case.”

This is just perfect.

Juve are playing just well enough without peaking too soon yet increasing the lead at the top to go comfortably into the CL without having to push excessively on the domestic front.

Its funny how Inter were looking to cut the lead down to 6 ... instead its a 12 point lead for Juve. 12 clear of 2 teams who are going to fight for 2nd place. Just 13 rounds remaining.A possible 39 points.

They can't even lose gracefully. Anyone with half a footballing mind would conclude that Juve were easily the better team. Instead Mancini contributes Juve's win to Nedved's dive. Howcome he doesn't mention that the freekick Adriano "scored" shouldn't have been a freekick either? Heh. It was worth it though.. the look on their faces when Paparesta stood their with his arm raised while the morons celebrated.

Great game. Inter always focus on the wrong things. Maybe if they stop citing conspiracy theories as the reason for their failures, they'll win something once in a while. As for now, its back to the usual, "sell the entire squad; buy an entirely new one" for them.

Moggi had the last laugh yet again.

“Inter are a quality side who are having a great season and I think they should be pleased with second place, but I fear their unhappiness with that scenario could see them lose that to Milan.”

Figo furious at Nedved
Monday 13 February, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luis Figo was among many Inter players furious at Pavel Nedved’s alleged gamesmanship during their defeat to Juventus. “It is shameful,” he said.

No love was lost during Sunday’s ‘Derby d’Italia’ and the recriminations continued long into the night with Nedved accused of diving by the Inter camp.

Nedved tumbled to the ground under a challenge by Ivan Cordoba with five minutes to go, earning his side a free-kick on the edge of the area from which Alessandro Del Piero won his team the match – and probably the Scudetto.

Adding his distaste to Coach Roberto Mancini’s own post-match comments of disapproval regarding Nedved’s “diving”, Figo expressed great anger at the Czech Republic midfielder’s antics.

“What has happened here is shameful,” he told reporters outside the ground before speeding away in his car. “We should all go home - we should all go on holiday.”

Juventus’s general director Luciano Moggi, however, hit back at the former Barcelona and Real Madrid star with some venomous words of his own.

When told that Figo left without answering any questions Moggi said that it was just as well.

“He was right not to say anything else,” he said. “Someone who signs contracts for fun should always shut up.”

Dejan Stankovic also vented his frustration at Nedved’s theatrics, which perhaps explains why he locked Juve’s players out of the dressing room for a few minutes after the game.

“No way was that a free-kick,” he said. “It wasn’t a bad foul. He just goes down whenever there’s a challenge and this episode cost us three points.”

It has also probably cost Inter their last realistic chance of winning the title, given that they are now 12 points behind the defending champions.

-------------------------

Indeed, Moggi. Sore losers. What the feck is Figo still doing at the top anyway? I have no idea on what basis he's still a regular at Inter.

Del Piero aiming for new highs
Monday 13 February, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not content with scoring the goal that looks to have earned Juventus their second straight Scudetto success, Alessandro Del Piero has already set his sights on three more targets this year.

Del Piero came off the bench last night to score his side’s spectacular winner against Inter with a free-kick five minutes from time and, with the League title almost certainly assured, the 31-year-old club legend is already setting himself new goals - the Champions League, the World Cup and the Balon d’Or.

Juventus play Werder Bremen in the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 next week and are strong favourites to win what would be their third European Cup win.

Then Del Piero is hoping to win a place in Marcello Lippi’s World Cup first XI and make a real mark on the tournament.

"They are all achievable objectives," he said. "I'm really delighted at how I've been playing in the autumn of my career - as someone defined it."

Pinturicchio has had to get used to playing the role of super sub on numerous occasions under Coach Fabio Capello’s reign - with David Trezeguet and Zlatan Ibrahimovic vying for the same place - but his enforced absences have only brought the best out of the skilful striker.

Super Ale’ came off the bench to score the winner against Udinese last weekend and also scored a vital goal in his side’s 1-0 win over Reggina recently, but last night’s against Inter – his 190th for the Bianconeri – was the most important of the lot.

"I don't know if the goal against Inter was the one that will decide the title. We have still got quite a few matches ahead of us," he added.

"But without doubt it is a great advantage. From now on all we've got to do is the thing we do best - keep our foot on the pedal.”

Forza Ale. (H)

finally Mancini has settled

MORATTI ON DEFEAT TO JUVENTUS (FROM INTER.IT)
Monday, 13 February 2006 00:35:18

MILAN - Massimo Moratti spoke briefly to Sky Italia after Inter's 2-1 defeat to Juventus. "It was a nice match between two strong teams," he said. "Juventus showed they were in better form than they seemed to be in their last few matches. Inter were missing in attack, which has happened lately, even if we were a bit unlucky with the post Recoba hit in the final stages. If that ball had gone in the match would have finished in a draw, which would have been the right result."

Asked if he is worried about Adriano's form, Moratti replied: "When I mention the attack I'm not just referring to Adriano. We have a lot of strikers and for one reason or another they're not managing to kill off matches at the moment."

Very friendly guy this moratti is isnt he? to say something like that on the clubs official site is very nice i must admit. also for him to say something against his team speaks very highly of what type of executive member he is.

Moggi hails historic Alex
Monday 13 February, 2006
Juventus general director Luciano Moggi has hailed Alessandro Del Piero’s goal on Sunday as one of the most important in footballing history.

Del Piero came off the bench to score Juve’s winner against Inter last night in what has almost certainly decided the destiny of the Scudetto.

After Pavel Nedved was adjudged to have been fouled on the edge of the area, he rose to the occasion to curl the ball home and virtually assure his side of another title success even at this early stage.

The moment was particularly sweet for Pinturicchio, who has returned to scintillating form despite suffering at the hands of Coach Fabio Capello’s strict squad rotation policy over the last two seasons.

“I think that Del Piero’s goal, which was scored with the assuredness of a sniper, will go down in the history of football and proves, as if proof were needed, the value of this player,” said Moggi.

“I always saw Del Piero as being this good,” he added. “The emotion of his goal gripped me unlike any other because he has suffered so much and his joy made me so happy.

“I backed him even when everyone was criticising him,” he continued. “In the end, though, everyone was saying: ‘Thank God for Del Piero’.

“Now everyone is stating that he has returned to his former greatness again, but in truth he has always been great.”

Figo isn't letting it go. Now he is accusing Moggi of meeting the ref before the game, which Moggi categorically denied.

Even if Moggi did meet the ref so what :| its not like they haven't met before and a 2 second convo before the game is going to change anything.

And FFS! The refereeing was FINE. That freekick call on Nedved would have been given by most refs. If anything Inter got away with so much. Paparesta was consistent.

I never liked Figo but I didn't think he was this big an asshole.

Juve set sights on Spalletti

Juventus have dropped the biggest hint yet about whom they want to succeed Fabio Capello when he leaves in 2007. “Luciano Spalletti is a great Coach,” said chief executive Antonio Giraudo.

The Bianconeri landed a coup when they lured Capello away from the Stadio Olimpico to take over as Juve boss in the summer of 2004 and Giraudo hinted that they may raid Roma again when the time comes at the end of next season.

“Spalletti is a great Coach,” he told Sky Italia television. “He is one of the best and he also has the esteem of Marcello Lippi, in whom we place a great deal of faith.

“We have tracked his progress and we will continue to follow him because we are convinced that he is one of the best - not just in Italy but at international level.”

The Roma tactician has made all the right noises about being happy in Rome, but there is no doubt that he would find the plum job in Italian football difficult to resist.

“I am very settled in the capital and I want to stay here,” said the Tuscan tactician yesterday.

Spalletti guided Udinese to the Champions League for the first time in their history last season before leaving for Rome, where he had to contend with a ban on buying players, a disgruntled dressing room and injuries to key players.

Now, though, his hard work is beginning to pay off with the club from the capital shooting from mid-table into Champions League contention after having mustered a club record of nine consecutive League wins.

Spalletti has also received numerous public endorsements from his players, including Francesco Totti, Simone Perrotta and, most recently, Amantino Mancini who rates him as better than Capello.

“Spalletti is an honest person and as a Coach he is more tactically-minded than Capello,” he said. “They are very similar to each other in the way that they manage the side.

“They are very serious in training, when you must always give 100 per cent,” he added. “But technically speaking, Spalletti works more on tactics.

“As a man he is completely straight-up with you,” he continued. “He stayed close to me through my difficult times and he is still here now that things are going well.”

Moggi v Figo goes to court Tuesday 14 February, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The verbal battle between Inter star Luis Figo and Juventus director general Luciano Moggi has become a legal one with both clubs threatening action.

Figo has been put under investigation for his allegations that Moggi was in referee Gianluca Paparesta’s office before Juve’s 2-1 win at the San Siro on Sunday.

“Figo’s accusations are serious, absolutely without foundation and downright false,” read a statement on the official Bianconeri website. “They were made all the more serious by their international context.”

Inter hit back almost immediately with a press release of their own. “FC Internazionale considers Juventus Football Club’s action against Luis Figo as an inappropriate act of arrogance.”

“The Nerazzurri club reminds that groundless assumptions made about the professionalism of Figo were attributed to Luciano Moggi by the Press. FC Internazionale will defend the reputation of its player in all courts of law and will, if necessary, request punishment for whoever has called into question his honesty and rights to freedom of speech and expression.”

The bitter recriminations at the end of Sunday’s Derby d’Italia look set to drag on, as both sides are ready to take the matter through the sporting justice system and perhaps even the libel courts.

Don´t understand this behaviour by Figo. So much fuss about nothing. I don´t think it was really a controversial refereeing. Golden oportunity to stay silent and let it go. The game didn´t deserve this much controversy. Although not an asshole, he does get upset when his team loses, it was always like that. Never lacked professionalism or passion for the teams he played, that probably explains his outburst. But even as countryman, i don´t really think he´s right.

Mancio tirade earns touchline ban
Tuesday 14 February, 2006
Inter Coach Roberto Mancini has received a one-match touchline ban for insulting the referee after their 2-1 defeat to Juventus on Sunday.

The tactician was furious that Alessandro Del Piero scored in the last five minutes with a free kick he claimed Pavel Nedved “dived” to earn.

“Mancini accosted referee Gianluca Paparesta after the final whistle and repeatedly shouted at him,” read the report from the Disciplinary Commission.

“He also loudly stated a vulgar insult about one of the opposition directors, who was also in the players’ tunnel at the time. As Mancini is not new to these incidents, he will also be fined £1,370.”

Juventus Vice-President Roberto Bettega has also been handed a £670 fine for his part in the fiery finale to this game.

It has not been made entirely clear what happened in the players’ tunnel on the way back to the locker rooms, as Dejan Stankovic closed the doors for a couple of minutes, leaving television cameras and the linesman outside.

Juve to poach Viola star Pasqual?
Tuesday 14 February, 2006
A new vicious row between Fiorentina and Juventus is set to explode as the Bianconeri try to prise Manuel Pasqual away from their rivals.

The two clubs already clashed last summer over the futures of Fabrizio Miccoli, Giorgio Chiellini and Enzo Maresca – the Turin giants coming out on top for all three – and the Della Valle brothers could be left empty-handed once more.

Pasqual has been one of the most impressive players for Fiorentina this season, but he is only co-owned by the club with Arezzo.

They snapped up 50 per cent of his contract for £1.7m, but hesitated in making the move permanent in January.

It’s now reported that Juventus have contacted Arezzo to buy out the remaining half of the left-back, which would set up another bidding war to decide his future at the end of this season.

If two clubs cannot reach an agreement after negotiations, they go into a blind auction where both sides put a figure into a sealed envelope and the highest bid wins.

Newspapers note that a signed piece of paper gives the Viola an option to sign the player from Arezzo for another £1.7m, but it has emerged that deal has no legal standing for the FIGC.

His price-tag has certainly rocketed since he made his mark in Serie A, as in 22 appearances this season he has put in 91 crosses, made three assists and aimed 19 shots on goal.

The wide man will turn 24 years of age in March and has been tipped for an Italy call-up by Azzurri boss Marcello Lippi.

lol  no need to get personal is there? and it's not like Figo never dived in his career... I admit I overcritisized him in that first post, but the post you're quoting is reasonable in my opinion... as you can see, I did say he's still good in matches versus the smaller teams, and sure he's their best player this season, but that doesn't make my post above any different. Did you see him on sunday? He couldn't even get past Balzaretti, the player you would expect he can handle out of the Juve team. Afterwards, he cries like a little baby, blaming all but himself and his team. Those players won't win you a scudetto, even if they're great vs. Lecce and the likes.

Ibra close to new deal
Wednesday 15 February, 2006
Juventus are on the verge of extending Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract, the club have confirmed.

The two parties are understood to have been in negotiations for some months in an effort to prolong the Swede’s stay after his stunning impact at the Stadio Delle Alpi.

Now Antonio Giraudo, the club’s chief operating officer, has suggested that an agreement is on the horizon.

“When the contract is signed then we will announce that fact, but we already have a deal done,” Giraudo confirmed.

“When there is the desire from both parties to continue together then there are never any problems in finding a solution. That’s the case here.”

The words of the official will come as a massive boost to fans who were growing concerned about the constant rumours linking Real Madrid with a £30m swoop.

However, Ibrahimovic – who has scored in the club’s last two League games following a lengthy goal drought – now seems destined to stay for some time to come.

Football Italia understands that Ibra, an £11m signing from Ajax, will prolong his stint by a further three years until 2011.

The Swedish international, who is somewhat of an ‘untouchable’ in the plans of Fabio Capello, will also net a significant pay rise.

Although he is such a key figure in Turin, the 23-year-old nets substantially less than his fellow strikers David Trezeguet and Alex Del Piero.

It’s believed that Ibrahimovic will be brought closer to his more illustrious colleagues thanks to a £3m a season deal.

Trez suffers ankle injury
Wednesday 15 February, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Juventus star David Trezeguet looks set to miss Saturday’s game with Messina after spraining his ankle during training.

The Frenchman pulled up with the injury during today’s session in Turin and, although club doctors assure it is only a slight sprain, he will not be risked for this weekend’s Serie A encounter.

The medical staff hope to have Trezeguet fit for next week’s Champions League tie with Werder Bremen.

In the meantime, Alessandro Del Piero will be given his opportunity to start alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has recovered from a muscular problem.

Coach Fabio Capello rarely rotates his squad, but with a 12-point lead at the top of the table, he can afford to rest a few players at the Stadio San Filippo.

Fabio Cannavaro has so far been ever-present in Serie A, but looks set to sit this one out for Robert Kovac. Jonathan Zebina is also expected to step in for Federico Balzaretti, while one out of Emerson or Patrick Vieira will also be left on the bench.

wow pavel and lilian. great achievements! they have really been 2 of the key players in juves success in the past few years. especially pavel. it goes without saying he wsa our most influential player in 2002/03 (a year which was marred by a certain yellow card that proved costly against real madrid).

guys i was just thinking wouldnt it be funny if both the milan teams were to drop points this week? i mean we still have the 2nd part of the derby della madonnina to come and if that ends in a draw juve can be celebrating a scudetto as early as the last week of march. well depending on milan and inter dropping points and playing the derby to a draw.

on this rotation of players. i think capello is doing the right thing. it is fair enough to say that he should rest these players before ucl ties. we will pretty much be having cl games till the end of the season now. so we need to rest players. plus with a 12 point gap at the top we can afford to experiment. getting 3 points against messina with an experiemental side would just show that we have got depth. most sides fail because of lack of depth. if we can eve get domenico criscito to play and do well it will be the start of something good for him too.

Sampdoria, Inter Milan had Marchionni deals BEFORE Juventus
tribalfootball.com - February 16, 2006

Parma winger Marco Marchionni was all set to move to Sampdoria before a delay over contracts being rubberstamped let in Juventus, it has been revealed.

Marchionni has committed to Juve for next season, but it emerged yesterday that he had already agreed terms with Samp and was prepared to move to Genoa in the summer.

However, a delay in drawing up the contracts opened the way for Inter Milan to come in with an offer THREE TIMES bigger than Samp's.

Marchionni immediately agreed to Inter's offer, however as the Nerazzurri board dithered, Juve director general Luciano Moggi stepped in with a contract offer matching Inter's.

Moggi had the forms all drawn up and made sure he had Marchionni's signature last month after a series of meetings with the player and his representatives.

The FA have reacted with surprise at reports linking them with Fabio Capello and stressed that no decision on who will take the reins has been made.

LINK (http://home.skysports.com/list.asp?hlid=364615&CPID=219&clid=&lid=2&title=FA+scotch+Capello+England+talk)
A host of names have been bandied about with regard to succeeding Sven Goran Eriksson as England manager.

Alan Curbishley, Stuart Pearce, Sam Allardyce and Martin O'Neill are high on many lists, while Juventus coach Capello was thrust into the frame a couple of weeks ago.

The rumour mill increased on Friday as reports in Italy suggested Capello had been sounded out about taking charge after this summer's World Cup finals.

This latest report has prompted The FA to clarify their position, with director of communications Adrian Bevington insisting no decision had yet been made.

"We just feel it is important the public do understand we are not in the process of actually speaking or approaching individuals or clubs at this moment," Bevington told Sky Sports News.

"It is unfair for them to keep reading things in the papers about this individual, or that this manager will be sought out by The FA over the next few days or that we have already approached X individual, or that there is a row between one member of The FA and another member of The FA over which candidate should be appointed because we not have reached a situation yet where we have decided as to who we want to go out and speak to and that won't be decided for a few weeks yet."

Bevington admits he was taken aback to see stories concerning the possible appointment of Capello.

"I understand we have allegedly approached Fabio Capello and have offered him a plush pad in London and a huge salary," he added. "It is news to us and is all I can say on the subject. I don't know where it is coming from."

Manchester City hit out at The FA on Friday over the continued speculation surrounding Pearce, but Bevington says such talk comes with the territory.

"When you have got a recruitment process which has just commenced, there is always going to be speculation," said Bevington. "That is unfortunately a part of football but is also a fabric of the game

"We have got sympathy with those who are being touted around by the media. The last thing we want to do is have any interference with the role they have with their clubs.

"At the moment we do not have a firm shortlist, what we have done is finalise the nature of the recruitment process, that will be discussed further at a board meeting on Monday week, the 27th, and that is where we are at the moment."

Members of The FA's selection panel, including chief executive Brian Barwick, have stated their desire to bring in a British manager. Bevington admits that is the ideal scenario, but says they will appoint the best person for the job - regardless of nationality.

"I have been with Brian Barwick and he has said that in an ideal world he would like to have an English manager; I think every fan would feel that way. But this does not necessarily mean we will go for an English manager.

"We have to keep an open mind and that is where we are at this stage.

"We are not ruling anyone out because of their nationality, we are simply saying we want the best man for the job, we will go through the recruitment process and we will not be rushed.

"We have a manager in place at the moment, Sven has done a very good job and we are looking forward to this World Cup and we do not want this recruitment process to get in the way of the World Cup preparations.

"It is not helpful every day seeing these misleading reports."

Eriksson does not want the new manager to be hovering over the squad in Germany and Bevington insists the Swede will get his wish.

"Brian has said in an ideal world you would like to have it done and dusted so you know who will be in charge for the next campaign.

"Sven and Brian have said that this is Sven's squad, it is the pinnacle of his reign and he would prefer to be allowed to manage the team at the World Cup in Germany with the group of people around him who led us to Germany."

The FA will keep the public up to speed on the situation, as Bevington concluded: "We want to get it right. What I will say is that when we have some news, firm news, I will be more than happy to come on to Sky Sports News and let the world know where we are."

Capello silences Juve accusers
Friday 17 February, 2006
Fabio Capello has told Inter to keep quiet after a week of controversy and prepares for Juve’s trip to Messina, but the England FA insist they haven’t contacted him.

“I don’t like talking about players I don’t know and sticking my nose into other teams’ business,” slammed the Coach. “Even when people do pass comment, they ought to know what they’re talking about.”

The Bianconeri’s 2-1 win at the San Siro sparked a week of seemingly endless sniping, with Roberto Mancini accusing Pavel Nedved of being a “serial diver” and Luis Figo suggesting he’d seen Juve director general Luciano Moggi entering the referee’s office before the game.

The Portuguese international later retracted the statement, pointing out he’d only seen Moggi walk past and that he had been “misinterpreted” because he gave the interview in English.

“One should always talk about what they’ve seen and not what they’ve been told through second or even third-hand information,” continued an angry Capello.

Inter patron Massimo Moratti also waded in this week by suggesting Juventus were “irritating and their behaviour totally unacceptable.”

“Are we unlikeable? If we are disliked because we are successful, then that is a situation we are happy to contend with. We hope to be just as unpopular around Europe.”

The Turin giants must first work on maintaining their 12-point lead at the top of Serie A and travel to relegation battlers Messina on Saturday – a team they have never beaten on Sicilian turf.

“It won’t be an easy game against an organised team that is very rarely beaten at home. We mustn’t make the mistake of assuming we’ve already won and taking them on with the wrong approach. Being 12 points clear does give us a comfortable cushion, but there are many games to go and it’s not over yet.”

Capello can count on David Trezeguet after he recovered from a knock to the ankle, but has to do without Giorgio Chiellini, Gianluca Zambrotta, Jonathan Zebina, Marcelo Zalayeta and long-term absentee Alessandro Birindelli.

“I’m going to have to invent a new defence, as I haven’t got anyone at my disposal. Thankfully Trezeguet is fine, as he just took a knock in training.”

Meanwhile, the England Football Association has denied reports that they have pinpointed Capello as the successor to Sven-Goran Eriksson after the World Cup.

"There have been no approaches made by the FA to any individuals or clubs regarding the recruitment of the next England coach. Nobody has been authorised to lead any formal approaches,” read an official statement.

You know Juve haven't beaten Messina for like.... ever!

Quoting Football Italia.

"Yet this has never been an easy fixture for the Turin giants, who had never won at Messina in Serie A and hadn't scored here since 1964."

Given that, a draw is perfectly acceptable.
