Milito to make Turin switch?
Reports in Italy suggest that Juventus are closing in on the loan capture of Genoa striker Diego Milito.

The prolific Argentine was one of the Rossoblu’s star performers last term, as his goals helped fire the club back into Serie A.

However, his request for an extension to his current two-year deal was rejected and the club’s top flight status remains in doubt.

Genoa are awaiting the verdict into their alleged match-fixing trial, something which could take place later today.

That added doubt makes a move away even more tempting for Milito, especially to the champions of Italy.

It is expected that Bianconeri transfer guru Luciano Moggi will negotiate a deal to take the 26-year-old on an initial loan deal.

If both parties are happy this will then revert to a permanent £3m transfer.

The potential move must also place into doubt the Turin future of Marcelo Zalayeta.

The Uruguayan international struggled for first-team action last term and he has already seen Adrian Mutu jump ahead of him in the pecking order.

Ibrahimovic Profile: The New (and only?) King Of Juve
4/25/2005 12:26:00 AM
They say the cream always rises to the top.

http://media.goal.com/200410/3713_news.jpg

Evidence of the explosive natural ability of this Bosnian-Swedish forward has been delightfully palpable this season. For his technical ability to be matched by on-field productivity is a reality many experts and fans are digesting with pleasant surprise.

The delicious skills and outstanding solo performances of Zlatan Ibrahimovic (known as ‘Ibra’ on the football-crazy peninsula) are a shining light amid some dark times of suffocating constriction, deep in the bowels of a withered Old Lady.

I remember the first time I watched Ibra on a live broadcast from the Stadio Delle Alpi. What is now a relatively innocuous incident occurred that day that stuck in the memory - encapsulating much of the player’s style and character. An over-hit cross fell to the towering striker near the right corner flag in the opposing half. He controlled the ball instantly, shielded it easily and swept between and around three players to the very corner of the penalty area. Instead of centring or swinging in a left foot cross he glanced up briefly and fired a spinning snapshot from the outside of his right boot, that bended just over the far corner of the goal frame. It was a taste of the kind of improvisation and self-belief that was to follow. To have maintained this zest and unwavering enthusiasm in a team starkly bereft of the fantasy element of football is an achievement in itself.

Juve’s season hangs in the balance after some inept performances resulted in surprising and heavily mediated defeats. The recent Lazio encounter saw another listless display that heralded unlikely victory – it may be a stay of execution for the Old Lady and her Scudetto hopes. The two-horse race in Serie A seems to fluctuate each week, but Bianconeri backs are against the wall despite the Olimpico win. To say that Ibra’s fantastic debut term has papered over the multiplying holes in the La Vecchia Signora machine is a gross understatement. His three-match suspension could prove to be the major factor if Juve fail to secure the title. That is the mark of the man.

Some sublime performances have brought Marco Van Basten comparisons (ill-advised as they may be), and Ibra has become the undisputed main attraction at the Stadio Delle Alpi. A combination of desperate form and recurring injury has curtailed the influence of waning attacking teammates Alex Del Piero, David Trezeguet and Pavel Nedved. Indeed, we have now arrived at a point where, as a fan, the cultured conjurer formerly of Ajax is the only reason to watch Juventus play at all.

Late August saw a few raised Italian eyebrows when, on the final day of the summer transfer window, Luciano Moggi acquiesced to Fabio Capello’s wishes and rubber-stamped a bid in the region of fifteen million euros for the coveted Eredivise starlet. Italian fans had recently sipped a emotional psychological cocktail of admiration and grief when Ibra pulled off that delightful aerial back heel, against Italy, in Euro 2004. Looping over the clamouring defence, between the cross bar and Christian Vieri’s head, and finally nestling into the Azzurri net. The equalising goal proved crucial to the eventual elimination of Giovanni Trapattoni’s side at the tournament’s embryonic group stage.

The subsequent spending spree was surprising for a number of reasons. As a sporting institution, Juventus are the most unyielding and calculating in the modern game – especially when it comes to parting with the green. The Bianconeri rarely gamble. Huge foreign signings from outside Serie A are a rare, nay freak occurrence (Trezeguet, Darko Kovacevic and Thierry Henry were exceptions). When the financial bottom dramatically fell out from the increasingly ostentatious football world a few summers ago, Juve were well placed to comfortably adapt to the enforced economic austerity. Recruiting Ibra for such a sizeable fee was significantly more than a calculated risk. His average seasonal goal tally for the Dutch Eredivisie’s biggest club, Ajax Amsterdam, barely broke into double figures. The received wisdom among pundits was that this talented but temperamental lad was not a natural finisher, and that his top-drawer build-up play often brought no end product.

His summer stardom turned heads and extinguished many myths. In truth, his overall ability should never have been in any doubt. Sure, he was/is raw but there is so much to nurture and cultivate. Ibra’s choice of a move to the Orange ArenA proved an ideal stage to hone his considerable talents. Capello had been close to signing him from the Swedish league when in charge at Roma. No doubt the ex-Milan and Real tactician is happy he waited. Back then who knows where the hot-headed youngster would have found the space to flourish amid feverish squad competition, in a league teeming with canny defenders so adept at physically and psychologically submerging attacking flair.

Yet this year he has surprised many in adapting to the rigours of Serie A superbly, and so quickly – already out-scoring any of his yearly Eredivise tallies. The situation is quite ironic. One shudders to think what state the ultra professional organisation of Juventus FC would be in if they had chosen not to take the expensive, last minute risk of capturing Ibra in the final hours of the transfer window - it is not as if he resided at the top of many clubs wish lists.

The player still has his faults in front of goal of course – see the missed second-leg opportunity against Liverpool as an all-encompassing reference. These are the chances he spurns, those that he must learn to tuck away. But the superb hat trick (though admittedly against a defensively poor Lecce side) showcased his outstanding variety of qualities - Ibra is capable of scoring the most difficult of goals. He has the strength, touch, turn of pace, confidence and dribbling skills to negotiate the blindest of alleys and the heftiest of roadblocks. The more he nets the more confident he will become and the sharper in front of goal he will be – he has everything else a professional player could wish for. It’s clearly bad news for the rest of Serie A.

Fabio Capello, in utilising some bygone stereotypes, presented perhaps the best analysis of the Bianconeri's crown jewel. He recently proclaimed that Ibra married all the flair and technical prowess of a Slavic footballer with the drive, will to win and positive ambition of the Nordic equivalent. The mixture has proved as potent as it is entertaining.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is set to become the new idol of Juventus, a superstar for the present and future, who offers what all fans crave and gleefully receive when it is exhibited – something a little different.

what will they say in 2 or 3 years when someone (eg. real, chelsea) offers 70 million and we accept it.
not saying that this will or must hapen to ibra but juventus are a money making team, you've gotta keep this in mind, and i'll just leave it as that..........
but no doubt zlatan was the BOSS this season and unless injury hits him will be great (at least) next season.

Any news about that Pires/Tudor exchange? I hope it doesn't happen, we don't need old players, we need young replacements for some of our veterans.

Usually 15 is a number for side-backs, especially RBs, who's Moggi thinking of?

I'm happy if we keep Blasi. He played all year with a groin injury.

I wouldn't do the Tudor/Pirès trade. Pirès can leave for free if he makes a deal with Arsenal. We should keep Tudor as backup ot if he wants to leave let's buy Gonzalo Rodriguez of.......Villareal. ;)

I think a RB will come: Oddo, Miguel, Alves...

Tacchinardi joins Villarreal Thursday 28 July, 2005
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus midfielder Alessio Tacchinardi will play for Villarreal next season, the Spanish outfit have confirmed.

Reports this morning suggested that a deal was close and the La Liga club have confirmed his capture on their website this evening.

"Villarreal, Juventus and Alessio Tacchinardi have reached an agreement so that the player will appear in La Liga next term," read a note.

The 30-year-old has spent 11 years at the Stadio Delle Alpi following his switch from Atalanta as a teenager.

Economical details regarding the move have yet to be revealed.

The international becomes the second Juve midfielder to head for Spain after Enzo Maresca was sold to Sevilla earlier this summer.

Giannichedda alone isn't enough of a backup for Vieira and Emerson. Tudor isn't ideally suited for a place in midfield. Lippi tried and it didn't really work now did it ? He played there out of necessity. Tudor would be a quality backup as CB.

Emerson, Vieira, Giannichedda, Blasi (Y) very sound set of DMs.

As for Chiellini, hes the only backup for Zambrotta and so he'll stay. He'll get his chances.

Miguel / Oddo / Alves for RB ? I'd take Miguel. I don't know much about Alves but from what little i've heard he sounds just as promising. I'm not too thrilled about the possibility of getting Oddo ... 2 seasons ago yes... not now. But hey, i'd take him over Zebina so any one of those 3 would be ok really.

Mikey its all about having 2 11s both capable of winning -

Looks like Pesotto is staying, and he could be backup for Zambrotta, but I think Chiellini will stay. At least (if Lippi selects him) he'll be very fresh for WC. (:/)

Miguel has baggage, and the potential of a repeat of the Roma/Mexes disaster as a possible outcome. Dont know shiat about Alves, other than hes probably higher rated than he actually is and that he was benched towards end of last season. Id go for Oddo, the safe bet. A quality RB like him is more important than depth at a position (DM/Blasi) youre already pretty much covered in anyways.

Regardless, Moggi has built an excellent team, and hasnt spent too much money, very impressive. Like Inter and their 'LB weakness', Juve isnt so bad at RB. Zebina can always pull out an *ssclown performance for the kids, but that always makes for high comedy. And here's to hoping Capello makes the call that could complete the Italy backline in time for next summer (move Zambro to RB and let Chiellini rock out at LB).

Chances of Mancini leaving are very slim. They dont have to worry about losing him for free next summer, so there's no need for Roma to sell, especially to their best buds. ;)

Juve monitor new Cafu
Friday 29 July, 2005

Italian champions Juventus are today being linked with Brazil’s attacking right-back Cicinho.

The Sao Paulo player is widely considered as Marcos Cafu’s heir in the national side and has caught the attention of numerous clubs.

Cicinho, who is on the verge of gaining EU status thanks to his Italian roots, recently impressed at the Confederations’ Cup in Germany.

It was believed that Milan would make a move for the defender but the Old Lady of Italian football have emerged as contenders on Friday.

Although he recently extended his contract with his South American club until 2008, he would consider a European switch – even if that is only likely to happen next summer.

Whispers suggest that any proposed deal would cost any interested party a total of £8m, with 40 per cent of that fee going directly to the player.

The Bianconeri are looking for a new right-back and have been linked with numerous players this summer.

Lazio’s Massimo Oddo has been associated, as has Portuguese international Miguel of Benfica.

Juventus’ current first choice right-sided defender is former Cagliari and Roma player Jonathan Zebina.

Sorry for the double post :(

The new stadium has been postponed
29.07: The construction of the new Juventrus stadium has been postponed for the second consecutive year. Construction works were supposed to begin in the summer of 2004, but were postponed until this summer. But in July Juventus director Antonio Giraudo announced that the construction of the new Juventus stadium had been posponed until May 2006. During this season Juventus will only start building outside the stadium, but will not touch the stadium itself until the end of the season. This means that the capacity of the stadium won't be reduced this season. Juventus will build a new stadium inside the current Delle Alpi stadium. The running pictch will be removed and the spectators will sit only few meters from the pitch like in English stadiums. The new stadium will be given a sponsor name and will not be named after Giovanni Agnelli as the fans hoped for. The capacity will be reduced to between 35 000 and 42 000 seats. Juventus will also build outside the stadium. Juventus plan to build a hotel, a shopping centre, a Juventus store, a Juventus museum, a cinema, a bowling hall, restaurants and new offices for the club.

Cannavaro calls for back-up
Friday 29 July, 2005
Fabio Cannavaro insists Juventus will again prove their defensive strength this term even if he wants the club to bring in more new stoppers.

The outfit had the best defensive record in Serie A last term but they have lost numerous players at the back this summer.

Paolo Montero’s contract has expired, Ciro Ferrara has quit, while Nicola Legrottaglie has again been loaned out with Siena his new destination.

"There is nothing to fear. We will again be the best defence in the championship and we’ll prove that on the field of play during important games," the Italy captain told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

"But you need a big squad in today’s game and reserves for every position. That is the case here too and we might need something else in defence.

"Having numerous options available will allow players to catch their breath, it will also be easier to achieve our objective of fighting on all fronts until the very end.

"Who could we sign? I don’t know who, you need to ask our director general Luciano Moggi. He has no need for any suggestions because we all have great faith in his ability."

One new arrival who has impressed the defender though is Croatian centre-back Robert Kovac, a free signing from Bayern Munich.

"Kovac is a quality player with great experience," boasted the 31-year-old. "He needs a little time to settle but he will be very useful in such a long season.

"He’s a ‘German’ type player and very concrete. If there is a need to kick the ball into the stands then he doesn’t think twice about it."

Meanwhile, Inter midfielder Cristiano Zanetti is again being linked following Alessio Tacchinardi’s move to Villarreal.

The Bianconeri are ready to offer Inter the services of striker Fabrizio Miccoli for the former Roma man.

i hope that if the deal does come thru, though, that it is a player+$$ deal so that we hav enuff to secure a decent RB.

EDIT: @ shev7
if they were to ask for money they would not get it,
the main reason we are "linked" with this deal is to get rid of miccoli.
we need a RB 100000001 x more than friggin C. zanetti

Cordoba isn't going anywhere... They purchased Samuel to form a partnership in CB with Cordoba... Only concern is that tall teams may have a slight advantage over them with the exception of Cordoba who jumps like he's 10 feet tall... Does Samuel have "ups" as well??

No, but being Argentinian, he does have his assortment of dirty tactics such as unjustifiable and deplorable name callings, tugging and holding strongly, thoroughly examining an opponent's groinal region for ball cancer, and sacrificing harmless and cute little animals such as squirrels, hamsters and fluffy little white bunnies right on the pitch to distract the opposition.

Walter is great in the air :) Though he can't jump as high as Cordoba, he is so strong that he wins a ton of balls in the air.

Zalayeta key to Miguel capture
Saturday 30 July, 2005
Juve’s bid for Benfica defender Luis Miguel could take a decisive turn if Marcelo Zalayeta is included in the deal, claim reports.

The Bianconeri have long been tracking the 25-year-old right-back and face competition from the likes of Inter and Real Madrid for his signature.

It’s now suggested that the Portuguese club would favour a straight swap deal with hitman Zalayeta instead of demanding a cash sum.

The move would also suit Zalayeta, as the Uruguayan striker has requested a transfer so that he can play more first team football.

Juventus would not be too down heartened at losing the squad player, as they are already have Adrian Mutu, David Trezeguet, Alessandro Del Piero and Zlatan Ibrahimovic for that role.

Zalayeta rarely played from the start during his time in Turin, but scored some crucial goals, most notably extra time winners in the Champions’ League against Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, Inter have officially confirmed that Francesco Coco has left the Brunico training camp in order to negotiate his move to another club. It’s claimed that a deal with Dutch giants Ajax is imminent.

------------------------------------------------

(Y)sweet.........
hopefully if this deal come thru then we can get milito and our team will be set.
and with the c. zanetti move seeming likely that wuld be the end of our tranfer campaign.
starting w/ 0$$ and ending w/ 0$$ but now with a hell-of a better squad. :lui:

Juventus slams Milan's Gilardino
Juve transfer guru Luciano Moggi has stated that his club was not interested at all in acquiring Alberto Gilardino, and has made the audacious claim that Juve's strikers as a group are much better than Milans. “I don’t consider the Rossoneri to be superior to Juventus,” said the director general in an interview with Radio Radio. “They are on a par with us and Inter.”

“We did not challenge Milan for Gilardino’s signature because we have Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Adrian Mutu, Alessandro Del Piero, David Trezeguet and Marcelo Zalayeta,” assured Moggi. “It was an excellent move for them, but I don’t think he is any better than our strikers and our best tactic is to avoid clutter in the squad.”

He added in regards to out of favour striker Miccoli:“He is a player who always manages to score 13-15 goals per season. There aren’t many of his like around and Miccoli is also very young,” stated the director general.

“Inter have certainly reinforced their squad, especially with the arrival of David Pizarro and Walter Samuel. Milan and Juventus have also brought in champions such as Patrick Vieira, so we’ll see who comes out on top. I think we have created a strong foundation for the squad and we don’t need any other players.”

Milito walks out on Genoa
Sunday 31 July, 2005
Genoa hitman Diego Milito has alerted clubs including Juve, Inter and Real Saragozza that he is looking for a move elsewhere.

“There has been terrible chaos here,” said the striker after his club was demoted to the Third Division. “We had earned our promotion to Serie A, but if the decision is confirmed then I cannot avoid leaving. I will not play in Serie C1.”

Genoa’s celebrations at their first promotion in a decade were short-lived, as they have been pushed down to Serie C and docked three points as a result of a match-fixing scandal. The last game of the season, a 3-2 win over Venezia, was shrouded in controversy and the Disciplinary Commission ruled that there had been irregularities.

Now Milito – who has scored 33 goals in two seasons – is ready to walk out on the club that brought him to Italy. He is already a target for Juventus, Inter and Real Saragozza.

“The Spaniards know I will make a decision over the next few days,” he told ‘AS’ newspaper. “It would be great to play alongside my brother Gabriel at Saragozza and their interest makes me proud. It’s not entirely up to me, though, as Inter are also in negotiations with Genoa. Before making any choices, I must find out where the Rossoblu will be playing next season.”

Genoa have appealed against the demotion and will know their fate before the calendars are drawn up on August 12.

Zambrotta Happy With Juve Squad
The Bianconeri will play a friendly match today at Biella.
Gianluca Zambrotta and his team mates just returned back to training after a two-day rest.

“We really needed these two days of rest because it seems to me that this year’s preparation is really tougher. Last year, since I was coming from the European Championships, I worked less than my team mates. Now we need to verify our condition in the friendly match at Biella.

This year Fabio Capello will have an ample squad to choose from.

“We shall have many games and the fact that we have a really vast squad is a good thing: it will be an extra weapon. There are however many matches and there will be space for everyone,” concluded Zambrotta.

Juventus' Cannavaro backs Vieri over Inter Milan split
tribalfootball.com - August 1, 2005

Juventus defender Fabio Cannavaro has backed Christian Vieri's decision to leave Inter Milan last month.
Cannavaro quit Inter over a year ago and said of his former club-mate: "Vieri did the right thing to change his situation and join AC Milan.

"If things aren't going your way, you must change your environment. He was right to leave as the environment obviously wasn't healthy for him.

"But don't ask me if forcing players to make up their minds like this is a specialty of Inter's!"

i must be one of the few people against putting zambrotta at RB...chiellini has great offensive skills, but isn't good on defence, we have RB's who are good on defence but not good at offence, and some RB's who are good at offence and not good on defence.our current LB Zambrotta is quite possibly the best LB in the game today, why are we gonna switch his position?

unless Chiellini (under the discipline of Capello) becomes better defensivley, we should leave Zambrotta where he is.

theo
01-08-2005, 11:06:PM
Well I always was against his move to RB, because he is my favourite and he is the best on his position, but mainly because I think we're better with Zambro on LB and Zebina on RB (if we don't get a better one) than with Chiellini as a LB and Zambrotta on RB. But this is my opinion because they just got used togheter and it would be a mistake to change them so early. I mean when Zambrotta goes up (usually gets back :p), Zebina stays back, and they always switch that role, which is a great thing.

Capello Defends Del Piero
8/2/2005 8:49:00 AM

The Bianconeri’s coach also commented about the rivals’ latest purchases.
Juventus have strengthened themselves a lot with the purchase of Patrick Vieira from Arsenal, however Fabio Capello also believes that both the Rossoneri and Nerazzurri have improved a lot with their latest acquisitions.

“Milan have made an excellent purchase with Gilardino. Well done also to Inter for taking Pizarro, but he will not be able to play with Veron.”

There are rumours that Capello will be offered an extension to his current contract.

“I’m happy that the Bianconeri officials are getting along with me; also I’m getting well with them.”

Finally one last comment about Del Piero, as the Juventus boss believes that Pinturicchio should be left alone by the media.

“There’s always too much talk about him,” concluded Capello.
It would be great if he'd extend too.

Trezeguet: “I like the trident”

“It was the first match where I played for 90 minutes and I’m satisfied. Despite a very hard training at this stage, I feel good and had no problem keeping forces for the whole game.”
David Trezeguet, left his mark regularly against Biellese too; the Frenchman scored three goals, making the most of trident slashes: “It’s a new method that we’re practicing and could become a viable alternative. For us forwards it’s clearly harder, but I like it, because allows a more offensive football.”. David is particularly confident: in this season he wants to get over the troubles of the past: “During the last championship I had a lot of problems and, even if I was able to score important goals, I want this to be my resurgence season. The Company bought great players and this is an incentive for everyone of us, because it’s a clear sign of commitment towards winning all and we will do our utmost to make it happen.”

definitely more attacking free-flowin football when we use the trident.
but one thing i wonder about if we use the trident during the season is who will play the three in the middle.
a)Camoranesi/Nedved---Emerson---Vieira
b)Giannichedda/Blasi---Emerson---Vieira
c)Camoranesi---Emerson/Vieira---Nedved

in that last friendly we played C) w/ emerson but i only think that vieira didn't play cus it was a friendly and he was fatigued.

Mutu happy with fitness

http://skysports.planetfootball.com/images/playerpics04_05/football/italy/juventus/mutu_happy.jpg

Adrian Mutu says he is close to resuming full match fitness with Juventus after continuing his recovery from a seven-month drug ban.

The Romanian forward was sacked by Premiership champions Chelsea last season after testing positive for a banned substance, but was handed a lifeline by The Bianconeri in January as he returned to Serie A.

Mutu completed his comeback to first team action late last term and after being involved in Juve's pre-season campaign says he is close to recovering the fitness and confidence that made him such a highly-rated prospect for Parma.

"My condition is improving and I can say I'm at 80 percent, and in the next matches I'll have the possibility to take more confidence in the game and with my team-mates," Mutu told the club's official website.

However when Mutu does return to peak condition he faces the daunting prospect of carving a niche for himself in the squad of the reigning Serie A champions.

Coach Fabio Capello already has the likes of Alessandro Del Piero, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and David Trezeguet in competition for the attacking berths, although the former Parma man is not worried by the strong competition at Stadio Delle Alpi.

"We have many in attack and this is a good thing," Mutu continued.

"There will be a lot of matches so there will be space for everyone.

"All Juve's forwards are big champions and for me it's important to have the possibility to compare myself with players of this level."

Juventus taking the Miguel
Wednesday 3 August, 2005
Juventus are reportedly closing in on the capture of Benfica defender Miguel, according to reports.

The Portuguese international has been linked with the Bianconeri for some time and a move may be on the horizon.

Whispers suggest that the Italian club have already agreed terms with the player, but his contract dispute with his present outfit has blocked the switch for now.

There is some confusion over whether the right-back’s present deal has expired, thus meaning he is available on a free transfer.

Benfica insist he is still tied to them and world football’s governing body FIFA are set to soon make a ruling.

However, a Turin switch will apparently definitely happen even if it is unclear at this stage in what form that will take.

Juve will allegedly sign him on a free transfer or pay Benfica £500,000 for a loan, with an option to buy next summer, depending on FIFA’s decision.

A deal could be wrapped up on Saturday when the two European giants meet in a pre-season friendly.

Miguel would be in competition with Jonathan Zebina for a role on the right side of the defence.

-----------------------------------------

a loan?? i hope we could do better than that.
i really doubt fifa is gonna let him go free:kader:. it's a damn shame cuz that would be awesome.
that would make vieira the only player we really spent money on in this great mercato.
but we may still spend money on Milito if Zalayeta goes so that'd be just for the moment.

Well a loan is good, and I guess we'll buy him at the end of the loan. If I'd have to chose being like Roma or playing with Zebina one more season, you know what my decision would be.

squad:
1 Buffon
2 Birindelli
4 Vieira
7 Pessotto

9 Ibrahimovic
11 Nedved

16 Camoranesi
18 Mutu

25 Zalayeta
27 Zebina
28 Cannavaro

i took a close look at the squad and i noticed it might go really well with a formation that i thought of 5-4-1
i know that it is a highly unlikely formation for us to play during the season but here's how i would lineup with this particular squad.

---------------------Buffon/Chimenti--------------------[GK]
--------------Zebina---Cannavaro---Thuram------------[DF]
---Camoranesi/Pessotto------------Zambrotta/Birindelli---[DF/MF]
-----Mutu---Emerson/Blasi---Vieira---Nedved/Olivera-----[MF]

-------------------Emerson/Pessotto------------------[DF/MF]
----Camoranesi-----Nedved----Vieira/blasi-----Mutu----[MF]
---------------------Zlatan/Zalayeta------------------[ATT]

seems balanced as everybody would play in a position near to/that is thier own

Taking him on loan would be a brilliant move by Moggi, as it would probably rule out any 'Mexes' scenerio. They should loan Zalayeta in return as Benfica is desperate for a striker, and hes class.

i may be mistaken but i don't think roma went about signing mexes in this way.

Roma paid Auxerre the amount in the release clause that was in mexes contract, like how robinho had a 50 million euro one, mexes had like a 4-5 million one if i recall correctly, auxerre got screwed out of millions cuz mexes value was a lot higher than what roma or any team who matched that clause woulda paid,so auxerre decided to play dumb and say what release clause, and here's roma today, unlawfully screwed

Ibra & Mutu played well, Zlatan had a big chance but the ref saw a foul (OK, he's romanian :D). Camoranesi was very good, same wiht Emerson and Patrick. Nedved suffered at least 12 fouls. The hole defence was good, especially Zambro and Thuram, Cannavaro did perform good too, and it was Zebina's fault at the goal, he was just looking at the low cross passing by his legs, didn't react in any way. There are about 30 degrees (C) so they had a couple of breaks for them to drink water, but Buffon didn't got the idea, and Capello tried to call him to the bench, but he still stood in the goal, pretty funny to see his face :O:D.

They finished 6th in Divizia A (Romania) last season and they are one of the favorites to win it this year after bringing in some very good players they also have a very good coach in Olaroiu (coached Steaua for a while as well before being fired). They have some of the best fans in Romania as well. The temperature probably had a lot to do with the result it's hot as hell in Romania right now. You guys still should of beat them though.

Tudor in Stuttgart link
Friday 5 August, 2005
German giants Stuttgart will reportedly make a bid to sign Juventus defender Igor Tudor.

The Croatian, who can also play in midfield, is set for an exit after failing to impose himself in the plans of boss Fabio Capello.

The 27-year-old, who spent part of last term on loan at Siena, has already been linked with moves to Middlesbrough and Udinese.

Former Juventus and new Stuttgart boss Giovanni Trapattoni is keen on adding the versatile player to his squad.

The Bianconeri are ready to do business and are looking for a fee of close to £3.5m for the former Hadjuk Split man.

Tudor joined the Stadio Delle Alpi outfit in the summer of 1998 and has been a useful addition even if he’s been affected by injury.

Stuttgart have already gone shopping in Serie A this summer after signing Danish forward Jon Dahl Tomasson from Milan.

Montero joins San Lorenzo
Thursday 4 August, 2005
Paolo Iglesias Montero has left Italian football after the stopper joined Argentine side San Lorenzo.

The Uruguayan has spent the last 13 years in the peninsula during spells at Atalanta and then Juventus.

Montero has joined the outfit on a free transfer after his contract at Juventus expired, nine years following his arrival.

"I thank Italy for all that it has given me," explained the 33-year-old. "After such a splendid experience, I will return to play in South America.

"This is something that I have wanted to do for some time and that is why I refused offers from a number of European clubs."

Montero, the most sent-off player in Serie A history, has signed a one-year contract with his new side.

In other transfer news, Siena defender Simone Barone, who spent last term on loan at Napoli, has joined Verona.

Perugia defender Mauro Milanese has left the club after agreeing a one-year contract with Queens Park Rangers

Capello confirms Thuram U-turn
Friday 5 August, 2005
Juventus boss Fabio Capello has revealed that Lilian Thuram will return to international football with France.

The defender has been heavily tipped to come out of Les Bleus retirement after Zinedine Zidane and Claude Makelele made the same move this week.

Thuram, who quit after Euro 2004, is now expected to make his comeback to the side for the August 17 friendly against the Ivory Coast.

"Lilian Thuram has been selected. We received a letter this morning regarding a call-up for the Montpellier game," said Capello.

However, the master tactician seems to be far from happy with the situation, fearing it may affect the Bianconeri’s hopes of Scudetto and Champions League glory.

"It is very satisfying for the player himself but I fear that he could be over-used during the season," continued the Coach.

"I wouldn’t want the player, given his age and the amount of games he will play, to be affected physically in such a long campaign."

The 33-year-old is currently France's second-most capped player having made 103 appearances, level with former skipper Didier Deschamps and 13 behind record-holder Marcel Desailly.

The former Monaco and Parma right-back memorably catapulted France into the 1998 World Cup Final by scoring both goals in the 2-1 semi-final victory over Croatia - still his only international goals.

He will be joined in the French squad later this month by his Juventus colleagues Jonathan Zebina, Patrick Vieira and David Trezeguet.

Italian Supercup date set
Friday 5 August, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Italian Supercup between Juventus and Inter will be played at the Stadio Delle Alpi on August 20, announced the FIGC today.

This trophy is the Italian version of the Charity Shield and every year kicks off the new season with a challenge between the Scudetto holders and the Coppa Italia winners.

Juventus conquered the title and the Nerazzurri lifted the Coppa in May, but their record in this competition differs wildly. Inter have only ever won one Supercoppa, while the Bianconeri have already triumphed four times.

The game is traditionally played in the home stadium of the Scudetto winners, so the Delle Alpi will host on August 20 with a 9pm local time kick-off – 8pm in the UK.

This match could well represent the Inter debut of new signing Luis Figo, as he was not on the list of players eligible for the Champions' League preliminary round.

Injury crisis strikes Juve
Sunday 7 August, 2005
Just one week away from the Italian Supercup clash with Inter, the Bianconeri could be without Alessandro Birindelli, Giorgio Chiellini and Jonathan Zebina.

Former Fiorentina full-back Chiellini (pictured) lasted only five minutes of last night’s 2-0 friendly win at Benfica, as he was stretchered off with a suspected fractured nose following a collision with Alex.

His replacement was Birindelli and he was also carried away from the pitch after spraining his right knee. More tests are needed to know how long he’ll be out for, but there are reports the ligaments have been damaged.

Zebina did not even fly out to Portugal for this prestigious test due to an injury, while Gianluca Zambrotta was left on the sidelines with a cut to his foot.

Muscular problems have also hit Robert Kovac, while Igor Tudor is thought to be on the verge of a move to Supercup opponents Inter in exchange for Cristiano Zanetti.

This leaves Coach Fabio Capello with precious few alternatives in defence, though Zambrotta is set to recover in time for next Sunday’s showdown at the Stadio Delle Alpi.

The situation could further push Juve to move for Miguel, the young defender who is currently at the centre of a transfer row with Benfica. The player insists his contract has expired, but the club maintains there is another year left to run and FIFA are arbitrating on the matter.

“We played a great first half, even if we clearly don’t have full match fitness yet,” said Capello after the 2-0 victory in Lisbon.

“I saw a lot of effort and quality, while tactically are movements are coming together and even Emerson is starting to find his form. It was a tough test and we’ll be ready for the Italian Supercup.”

The Italian Supercup is Serie A’s version of the Charity Shield between Scudetto winners Juventus and Coppa Italia holders Inter.

Messina move for Milito?

There are reports that Juventus will sign Genoa hitman Diego Milito and immediately loan him out to Messina.

The Argentine striker is hot property on the transfer market following his 21 goals to earn promotion from Serie B last season.

However, he will demand to be sold this summer if Genoa’s appeal against the match-fixing penalty is rejected and the club demoted to Serie C1.

Inter and Milan are also interested in Milito, but it appears that Juve have the upper hand with the offer of regular first team football at Messina for his first top flight term. In turn, the Sicilians could release Riccardo Zampagna into the hands of Sampdoria.

Meanwhile, there are also claims in the Gazzetta dello Sport that Juventus have not given up on the idea of capturing Antonio Cassano (pictured).

The Italian international’s contract expires in 2006 and renegotiations have hit a major stumbling block. It’s even rumoured he could be frozen out of the squad if he refuses to pen an extended deal, but Roma can only sell him for £13m cash due to FIFA’s transfer embargo on signing new players.

It was suggested that Chelsea would come in with a £11m bid, but Cassano has made it clear he wishes to be reunited with Coach Fabio Capello in Turin.

There will be a friendly match between Roma and Juventus on August 9 and it could be the right time for the Bianconeri to offer him a three-year contract worth £2.7m per season.

Yes, in any other footballer's case save for King Recoba that goal would be deemed out of this world spectacular and be given its rightful place as one of those one in a million moments, but Heroic Zlatan is extaordinary personified, man. The dude's middle name is Awe-inspring for Godsakes!

Commonplace for Heroic Zlatan Awe-Inspiring Ibrahimovic and King Recoba.....extremely uncommon for others.

Birindelli injury blow
Monday 8 August, 2005
Juventus have been rocked by the news that Alessandro Birindelli is out for the next six months.

The 30-year-old, who has spent the past few seasons as a back-up player, suffered a knee injury against Benfica on Saturday.

Tests have shown that he has damaged ligaments in his right knee and he will be forced to wear a cast for a fortnight before it can be operated on.

Juventus Coach Fabio Capello (pictured) already has enough injury concerns ahead of the new season, but he would not be drawn into revealing any potential replacements.

“We will have to evaluate the situation before taking any decision,” said the tactician.

The situation could lead to the Bianconeri speeding up their move for Miguel.

The Portuguese defender is currently at the centre of a transfer row with Benfica.

He insists his contract has expired, but the club maintains there is another year left to run and FIFA are arbitrating on the matter.

It has also been reported that David Trezeguet pulled out of training today with an ankle complaint.

Capello will be hoping that it is not serious after the French international missed much of last season through injury.

Moggi: We Will Not Take Cassano

The Roma forward will not join the Bianconeri according to Luciano Moggi.
Following today’s news that the Giallorossi’s transfer embargo was lifted, many predicted that the talented but hot-headed young star will reunite with Fabio Capello at Juventus. However the Old Lady’s General Manager categorically denied that the Turin-based club will be making a move for the player.

“Cassano is not in our plans. It’s useless to insist on this, it’s a waste of time."

Moggi also commented the news that Roma’s transfer ban has been removed by the TAS.

“Good for them, the TAS’ judgement will allow them to operate in the market, as it should be. The suspension of the ban is a good decision."
In my opinion we don't need Cassano, even if Zalayeta is already leaving. DP and Mutu are the best solutions for our bench and I hope nobody joins/leaves.

I still think we'll end up with Cassano sooner or later. But if that means losing Mutu or Trezeguet then no thanks. Ideally he could be Del Piero's heir; hopefully on a free next season.

We're all set up front. A RB is all that we lack... and maybe a mid but it isn't mandatory.

didnt you say if the deals not made by this weekend it probably wont happen?

In the end I think Miguel will reconcile with Benfica and play another season before leaving after WC. I think there was a 30% Juve would sign a RB, but with Birindelli out they pretty have to (I cant remember is Pessotto left or right footed?)

... shouldnt Miccoli be on a new club by now?

bianconeri6

i think that they took longer than expected to come to a conclusion on his case (whether his contract has expired or not) and we can't try to accqire him without knowing whether to pay or not and if we are to pay how much etc.
it is in general a touchy time and we don't want to have a suspended transfer window or somthing like that for being too hasty when we have about a month left in the transfer window.

Capello To Make Changes Against Roma
8/9/2005 6:28:00 AM

Del Piero is expected to start in attack.
Fabio Capello will make some changes in tonight’s friendly match against Roma. The Juventus coach is expected to field Alessandro Del Piero alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic following the injury of David Trezeguet.

However, the Bianconeri’s mentor was quick to point out that he would have still made some changes even if Trezeguet had not been injured.

“Independently from David’s (Trezeguet) injury, I would still have changed the attacking duo that played in Lisbon. Against Roma I will change something; they are a squad which is on our same level of preparation. Roma is however a good team, with players of high quality."

That's impossible, he will not play for us anymore, first because he don't want to, second because he ended his contract with us (this doesn't mean he will leave free though, he, or the club who take him, will probably have to give us the money of his release clause), and third, even if he could play for us, he would be instantly murdered as soon as he entered the pitch.

Maybe they didnt go as extreme but Taddei and Trabelsi both had somewhat similar cases and eventually reconciled with club. Maybe he wont play, but I still think Miguel remains on Benfica's books until at least January.

Oh man, Trezeguet injured already in preseason, the Serie A season has officially begun. (Y) Seriously, if Chelsea really did offer $25M+ for Trez and Moggi turned it down, than he's not the 'genius' I thought he was.

Roma-Juventus 2-2

ROMA-JUVENTUS 2-2

MARCATORI: 20’ p.t. Del Piero, 34’ p.t. Chivu, 36’ s.t. Taddei, 47’ Del Piero (rig.)
