View Full Version : Gheorghe Hagi stepped down as Galatasaray Coach (and Mondragon announces his leaving)
theedor 28-05-2005, 07:35:PM Romanian Footballing Legend Gheorghe Hagi announces his resignation tonight after his last league match in charge.. Gheorghe Hagi had made weird declerations during the whole year, and his last hopes had collapsed after Galatasaray failed to qualify for UEFA Champions League despite their victory, finishing the Turkish Super League in third position..
Also, Ali Faryd Camillo Mondragon (a really good GK in my opinion), announced his intention for leaving after failing to qualify for UEFA CL.. (this rumour is called back later)
really weird things are going on and we, Galatasaray fans, are all thinking that this is because our improvident chairman Ozhan Canaydin..
Fener_Bahce 28-05-2005, 07:41:PM I'm so happy that hagi left. No offense to galatasaray but hagi was a disrespectful disgrace to our league, and gala's team, he didn't suit such a big team with his animal like actions during games. I'm very happy he left, he was an unprofessional coach and gala will benefit from it a lot.
TURK_1975 28-05-2005, 10:24:PM We will remember Hagi as a player. IMO Hagi was also a great coach. He has done well with the players he had. Wishing him good luck in his career.
Mondi is not going anywhere.
Emre_5 29-05-2005, 01:31:AM wow

Yes his contract is till 2006. If Galatasaray gets a good offer on him then he can go if he wants to.
ttwellman 29-05-2005, 03:13:AM Good luck, Hagi. You will be missed and remembered as a damn good player.
Emre_5 29-05-2005, 04:51:AM i want a link to this...cause im watchin Turkish TV and nothing
Deisler 29-05-2005, 05:24:AM It's official: ERIK GERETZ is the new Gallatasaray coach.
Good luck to him and Gallata.
$teauA 29-05-2005, 05:43:AM I'll tell you why Hagi quit, he quit because a few days before the Turkish season ended he got a call from Steaua owner Gigi Becali who offered him a VERY good offer to coach Steaua next year and there's no way that Hagi is gonna miss an opportunity to coach the team where he won all of those trophies. I'm personally very curious to see how he will do in this new environment because if you look at his coaching jobs so far he has been very inconsistent so I'll patiently wait and see but if results won't come then he can leave, I'm sure no Steaua fans will care.
theedor 29-05-2005, 09:52:AM Gheorghe Hagi is a smart man that's for sure, he has the potential to become a good manager.. he was a great midfielder but he has a lot to learn to become good for a manager, I think the first thing he should do is to realize that..
and hagi also won trophies with Galatasaray.. he does not have UEFA and European Super Cup with Steaua does he :)
he's also loved here in Turkey, but I suppose he's the god in Romania.. so good luck with him..
PI-AIR 17 29-05-2005, 11:00:AM that's not good for galatasaray
$teauA 29-05-2005, 02:53:PM and hagi also won trophies with Galatasaray.. he does not have UEFA and European Super Cup with Steaua does he :)
:) lol
While he was at Steaua Hagi won the following:
- Champions League in 1986
- Super Cup 1987
- 3 Romanian Championships
- 3 Romanian Cups
He also reached the final of the CL with Steaua in 1989 but unfortunately we lost to AC Milan. And he also played in the Intercontinental Cup which we lost.

i personally think Becali is the biggest dumbass, and Zenga is/was way better than Hagi as a coach (i think)

Oh don't get me wrong I agree, Gigi Becali has the intelligence of a weasel but he has hundreds of millions of dollars that are useful to the club so....
diroix 29-05-2005, 11:29:PM is Eric Gerets good coach??is he prefer defensive or offensive football?
diroix 29-05-2005, 11:35:PM i hope Gerets will come with D'alessandro :D
Vagegast 30-05-2005, 03:42:AM D'Alessandro and Gerets hate each other, buddy.
