AS Roma History

A.S. Roma (Associazione Sportiva Roma) is a Italian football club. Nicknamed the giallorossi, it plays in Serie A. Roma's home uniforms are dark red shirts with dark yellow borders, white shorts and black socks.

The emblem is the Capitoline she-wolf lactating twins, symbol of Rome, superimposed a bipartite golden-yellow over red shield; official colors are the same as those of Rome, red for imperial dignity, gold for the Christian God.

The current stadium is the 82,656 seater Stadio Olimpico, which is shared with S.S. Lazio. The two teams compete against one another each year in the Rome derby, a major and emotional event in Italian football.

A.S. Roma was founded in July 1927, when Rome already had three teams in the Italian football league - Alba, Fortitudo and Lazio. The Fascist regime's idea at the time was to merge all the Rome clubs into one which the many newly-arrived immigrants could identify with, Lazio considered very much a patrician club of the Roman social elite, and strong enough to challenge the northerners. Lazio refused even a meeting but Alba, Pro Roma, Fortitudo and Roman attended and Roma was formed. Roma was named after the city and with the red and yellow strip of the Roman club. The initial stadium was Motovelodromo Appio. They took part in their first league in the 1929-30 season.

A.S. Roma won their first scudetto in the 1941-42 season. The second was won in the 1982-83 season and the third in 2000-01. They were runners-up in 1930-31, 1935-36, 1980-81, 1983-84, 1985-86, 2001-02 and 2003-04. They were relegated only once, at the end of the 1950-51 season.

The club has won the Coppa Italia seven times: 1963-64, 1968-69, 1979-80, 1980-81, 1983-84, 1985-86, and 1990-91, and the UEFA Cup (Fairs Cup) once in 1960-61, defeating Birmingham City. In 1984, A.S. Roma lost the final match of the European Cup, played in Rome, against Liverpool F.C., after a penalty shootout.

Pay some more attention in your history classes. ;)
Those humans you see are actually the founders of Rome, Romulus and Remus, according to the roman mythologie. They were found by wolf, who instead of killing them, looked after them and fed them with her milk. :) It's a nice myth eh. ;)

Totti signs Roma deal
by Nadia Carminati - created on 31 May 2005

The Giallorossi have spent several months locked in talks to persuade Totti to extend his spell with his boyhood heroes.

For his part, Totti has repeatedly affirmed his desire to stay in the Eternal City, despite frequent interest from Real Madrid.

Totti's deal had been due to expire in 12 months' time but Roma have now avoided the potential catastrophe of the Italy international leaving for nothing.

The Serie A side have announced that the team's skipper has signed a deal which will keep him at Stadio Olimpico until 2010.

There is also a commitment from Roma for Totti to take up a position on the club's management staff when he retires from playing.

Totti's decision to pen the terms on offer, which will reputedly earn the forward €10.4 million per season, will be a major boost to Roma.

The club have endured a turbulent season, with four coaches having been in charge of the team during the past 12 months.

With the futures of Totti and key striker Vincenzo Montella now secured, Roma are likely to turn their attention towards cajoling Antonio Cassano into agreeing a new contract.

Mikey

good to see Totti committing (Y).

Hopefully Cassano follows suit very soon, would hate for them to lose him on a free or a cut rate price. Maybe they resigned Montella a bit too early, since he signed his form dropped dramatically.

I think the outlook for next season looks great, they just need to sign the right coach. Right now Zeman, Cosmi and Trappatoni are the main candidates. Out of the 3 I think Il Trap is best choice as he can restore some sorely missing discipline. With Zeman theyd be very entertaining, thats a guarentee. This would be Cosmi's first job with a big club, but i hope he remains with Genoa. Roma is almost guarenteed to be signing Taddei on a free anytime soon, and thats a good signing.

never seen the Roma logo that up close, pretty graphic (C)

Why Totti signed with Roma… Wednesday 1 June, 2005
------------------------------------------------------------------------Francesco Totti has revealed the reasons behind why he’s decided to commit his future to Roma.

The Giallorossi hero is now tied to the outfit until 2010 after he last put pen to paper on a new contract.

"I’ve been assured certain guarantees regarding the squad, the club and the new Coach," said Totti on Wednesday.

"I’ve taken this step because it is something that I really wanted to do. I just can’t see myself in another shirt."

Totti has been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Inter and Milan but he’s again underlined how important his hometown club is to him.

"There is a desire to see Roma return to the levels of the past," he added. "Winning a title here is worth the same as winning 10 at another club.

"This is the most beautiful month of my life. We’ve qualified for the UEFA Cup, ensured survival, reached the Coppa Italia Final and my marriage to Roma and (girlfriend) Illary.

"Antonio Cassano? I would be disappointed if he left."

Totti will net a massive £7.5m a season, but can the club offer another player such a deal? "Only if Ronaldinho arrives…" smiled Totti.

It’s also believed that the Roman will continue to work for the club once his playing days come to an end.

"I’m just thinking about being a footballer right now," he underlined. "We’ll see what happens but I am happy with this shirt both on and off the pitch."

Roma were understandably happy that their symbol would be staying. "This agreement is important for the President and the club," said chief operating officer Rosella Sensi.

"Francesco has tied his name to the club and the fans. He is a symbol of Roman football in Italy and the world, as well as being a great man on and off the pitch."

Meanwhile, Totti has tried to explain why he’s been omitted from the latest Italian national squad.

"It was a decision that needs to be respected," he added. "Marcello Lippi phoned me on Thursday and he explained the motives behind why he’s left me out – even if I can’t tell you.

"I’m saddened because I wanted to be a part of the Norway game which is very important."

i would still rather have totti than ronaldinho (H)

Juventus make Cassano bid Wednesday 1 June, 2005
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus have reportedly made Roma an initial player plus cash offer in their bid to sign Antonio Cassano.

Director general Luciano Moggi is understood to have met with Giallorossi chief operating officer Rosella Sensi on Tuesday to start talks.

The Bianconeri are ready to hand over Adrian Mutu and £9m for the Italian international forward.

Moggi made contact at the request of Fabio Capello, who bossed the youngster during his time in the Italian capital.

Juve are also keen to wrap up the deal as soon as possible given that Inter and Real Madrid are also interested in the former Bari starlet.

The Stadio Olimpico side will now have to decide what to do with Cassano as his contract expires in 2006.

The club have already extended the contracts of Vincenzo Montella and Francesco Totti but an agreement with Cassano may be difficult.

The cost of keeping the 23-year-old would be high and it may make more sense to cash in on him, especially as they will now be paying Totti £7.5m-a-season.

It was believed that Juve would offer cash and Shabani Nonda to the Giallorossi but that now looks unlikely.

Reports in Italy today suggest that Nonda has failed a medical and therefore will not complete a summer move to Juve from Monaco.

Bayern Munich stopper Robert Kovac has passed his medical and he is set to be confirmed as a Juve player very soon.

Meanwhile, Olivier Kapo could be heading back to France. The winger has failed to settle in Turin since his move from Auxerre and Monaco are keen on his services.

newest rumour:

inter will buy udinese's pizzaro, then send him along with ze maria and cruz to roma in exchange for cassano
-------------------------

that sounds might tempting, especially if inter gives us some money too. thought i still don't think i would accept. if roma can build a midfield as effective as the emerson-dacourt partnership was then totti and cassano will own the serie a again like 03/04

ForzaNerrazurri

Pizarro would be more usefull than Cassano at Inter. IMO

Inter and Juve don't need him.

Mikey
01-06-2005, 10:43:PM
Juve has Mutu so the need for a support forward isnt that huge.

Inter could actually use him more as Cassano-Adriano is better than Martins-Adriano.

I dont think Mancini can control Cassano though, and i think Juve's offer of Mutu + cash (if they increase it to maybe $13M) is better than what Inter is.

Cannavaro makes Cassano call

Friday 3 June, 2005

Juventus stopper Fabio Cannavaro has told Antonio Cassano to snub a move to Inter in favour of a Turin switch.

The Nerazzurri have joined the Italian champions in the race for the youngster who looks set to leave Roma.

Reports yesterday suggested that the Milan giants were keen admirers but Cannavaro believes his club are in pole position for the talent.

"I can’t say too much otherwise (director general) Luciano Moggi will fine me," smiled the Azzurri captain.

"All that I will say is that I don’t think he will join Inter, who already have Adriano, Obafemi Martins and many more.

"He would face stiff competition for a place at Juventus too, even if there will always be room for a player like him in a team."

Meanwhile, Messina say they are ready to sell Alessandro Parisi to Juventus during the summer.

"Alessandro has been here with us for two years in which he has demonstrated that he has enough quality for Juventus," said owner Pietro Franza.

"I would be more than happy to sell him to the Bianconeri."

The left-back, capped by Italy last season, is currently on tour with the Bianconeri in Japan.

Placente apparently was in Rome to take a medical and will sign a 4 year deal.

I dunno how true this is cause i would imagine we would of seen photos or reports of it.

Also Cassano's agent met with Rossella today, hopefully finalizing the new deal hes signed with the club.

i think its pretty much a done deal.

He just quit his job with Udinese.

santino
07-06-2005, 04:32:AM
spalletti should be the coach

placente and ze roberto should sign

juninho pernucambero(sp?) should be bought, and bonnani(sp?) should be bought.

also, cassano must sign a new deal.

then we'll be good :)

tottiiii
07-06-2005, 04:51:AM
Have you ever seen Bonnani play ?

i have not, i know hes scored 8 goals this season and is a big strong guy.

Anyways, i cant see us landing Juninho unless he admires Roma and wants to come to play with some of our players. plus no CL so that will probably eliminate us off his list.

santino
07-06-2005, 04:54:AM
i never have but he's been rated highly, if he could be nay use at all on the left wing then we might as well go for him.

and true about juninho but u never know, he's a bit older and might want a new challenge

Mikey
07-06-2005, 05:04:AM
santino, if you want all those players, either Mancini or Chivu will have to be sacrificed.

Ze Roberto is free, and we all know how much Italian clubs have a fetish for that type (im shocked Juve hasnt tried to snag him and than make him part of deal for Cassano). But I think he'll likely resign with Bayern, or go to some EPL club like Middlesbrough who will give him a huge contract.

It would take a big transfer fee to get Juninho, and Roma arent that kind of club.

Never heard of Bonanni, what club does he play for?

I could see Placente coming, and Roma need a LB.

santino
07-06-2005, 05:11:AM
not really mikey, chivu wouldn't have to be sacrificed, mancini maybe.

bonnani --> serie b player, apparently a hot prospect, i think he's at vicenza but don't quote me on that

juninho--> apparently has a release clause that's low and affordable for us

placente--> might already be ours

nonda--> might already be ours

modena_10
07-06-2005, 05:26:AM
i definitely wouldnt mind ze roberto or juninho, still know very little about nonda though.

placente would be nice depth considering we are losing dellas and ferrari may be leaving

santino
07-06-2005, 05:29:AM
the good thing about placente would allow cufré to move into CB when needed.

and nonda's is a big striker, tall, good in the air, good with his feet, and ridiculously injury-prone:(

Mikey
07-06-2005, 05:40:AM
Nonda was the top scorer in france a few years back, and is a quality player, but has been injured a lot past 2 seasons. But hes free, and Roma has sh*t all in depth in attack, so hed be a great signing.

Santino, do you think Mancini will actually leave? BTW about how much is his wage?

santino
07-06-2005, 09:36:PM
i can see mancini leaving but i wouldn't mind having him stay either, with him, taddei, and panucci covering the right side we should be good.

i dont recall how much his wage is but i could research it for u later tonight.

tottiiii
07-06-2005, 09:37:PM
What killed management was paying 15 million for Pelizzolli or 30 million for Batistuta and only getting 2 good years out of it...although we won the championship so it doesnt matter lol.

the wages shouldnt be a problem as long as we are not giving 3 million a season to 33 yr olds like we did this year.

Totti makes a lot of money but thats because Roma have exclusive image rights to him...he makes Roma a lot of money because of this so its not as absurd amount as people think...apart from what every footballer makes being absurd.

I read about Roma asking about Ricardinho of Santos.
Be nice if we could get him...i think he would do well in Italy, hes not a fast player but hes talented on the ball and has good vision...can also strike free kicks well.

Kuffour signs Roma deal Thursday 9 June, 2005
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Serie A side Roma have confirmed the capture of Bayern Munich defender Samuel Osei Kuffour.

The Ghana international has signed until 2008 after his contract with the German champions expired.

Kuffour, who was also linked with Inter and Juventus, will net £1.4m-a-season – excluding bonuses and image right fees.

"I’ve chosen Roma because I want to enjoy my football," he said after his surprise arrival in Italy last night.

"This is an great club. I turned down more important offers because I want to win things here.

"I’m absolutely delighted that I can now play with champions such as Francesco Totti, Antonio Cassano, Vincenzo Montella and Cristian Chivu."

Kuffour becomes Roma’s second free signing of the summer after the capture of Siena’s Rodrigo Taddei last week.

The stopper will also be joined in Italy by former Bayern teammate Roberto Kovac, who has completed a free move to Juventus.

The signing of Kuffour is now likely to see central defender Matteo Ferrari leave, after a nightmare first campaign at the Stadio Olimpico.

i like this signing, adds some needed depth. its all just a question on how he will re-adapt to the italian game from the the german game.

Kuffour was a good player in Bayern was also a fan favorite. He will be missed He is a nasty CB with alot of Fighting spirit in him. Can be good in Aerial Attacks but speed kills him. But age wise its good to use him as for depth. He also played as a RB he did ok-maybe good. His crosses thou were bad he was good at running to attack and passing on the ground. Good leader too, maybe he will calm down Totti, Mexes, and maybe Cassano.

decent signing IMO.

not the best player to get, but:

1.free
2.wage is kinda high, but that's what roma's been doing lately
3.good backup, will add toughness to our defence
4.experienced, we'll have someone over the age of 20 on our bench

PAYUP ROMA :p

FIFA Tell Roma To Pay The Price For Mexes
6/10/2005 1:06:00 PM
Football’s governing body FIFA sentenced that Roma have to dish out 8 million Euros to Auxerre for the Philippe Mexes transfer coup, on Monday

Roma were hoping to pay a maximum of 5 million Euros, while Auxerre, the club Roma ‘snatched’ Mexes away from last August, wanted 18.

Roma are expected to appeal the decision to TAS, who however sided with the French club earlier this season on the six week ban from official competitions FIFA decided to punish the player with.

11-06-2005, 06:11:AM
the main worry is will he be able to play a whole season without being hurt...if he can he should be very good.

Hes very strong and fast...good with his feet.

Regarding the mexes case, heres the deal...Mexes and his agent signed a contract with Auxerre and it had a release clause on it, But Auxerre said that wasnt the real contract and the one they had didnt have such a clause in it.

Thats the main problem...Roma are appealing the decision it hasnt ended here.

Basically a lack of common sense on so many people and this is what happens.

How there is even a question regarding what contract was valid is amazing...Apparently since Fifa ruled we have to pay im guessing the one without the release clause is the one they are holding true.

Mexes said he signed that contract with the clause it and just left.

so who knows now.

santino
11-06-2005, 07:13:AM
exactly totiiii, it was one thing to suspend mexes for leaving and joining roma to play pre-season with them, but he was punished on that.

we paid the release clause and that should be it. fifa and uefa just hate us now cuz of the champ league incident.

modena_10
11-06-2005, 10:07:AM
this is just a screw job, i thought this had finished after the suspension but apparently fifa and uefa want to really rape us and make an example of us. we paid the release clause already, mexes served a suspension, why do they still want more.....ridiculous

thanks and great job uefa/fifa

Roma came out brilliantly, owning much of the play, Cassano was playing brilliantly. Adriano's first goal was a 40 metre bomb and the second came off a cross where he just beat Ferrari to the ball. I though Mexes would have started.

Oh man, this is great. Il Imperatore has been spectacular so far, he's really in the groove. Great job by Roma exposing our weak central defense at the beginning of the game. I was ****ting my pants for the first 10 minutes. But after that it's been all Inter controlling the game. Ferrari is lucky not to be sent off with a 2nd yellow card. Collina gave him a break when he obstructed Martins when Martins was going to clearly outrun him.

Stankovic better be taken off at half time for Cristiano Zanetti. I have no idea what he is doing out there, he's pure crapola.

Coppa: Adriano magic mauls Roma

Roma played some wonderful football, but two moments of sheer magic from Adriano have given Inter a 2-0 first leg lead in the Coppa Italia Final.

This is the last chance for both sides to earn some silverware and there was another aspect to the Stadio Olimpico setting, as so many members of the Inter squad – including Coach Roberto Mancini – had played in the Rome derby with Lazio.

The Giallorossi were not pulling their punches, as within 24 seconds Francesco Totti had set up Antonio Cassano and goalkeeper Francesco Toldo was forced to save with an outstretched foot.

Inter also pushed forward when Adriano hit the back of the net with a header, but Pierluigi Collina disallowed the goal for a push on Matteo Ferrari.

Totti and Cassano again combined brilliantly moments later on the counter-attack, but this time the ex-Bari starlet’s finish thumped the base of the upright with Toldo beaten.

Giuseppe Favalli nearly scored an own goal when his flicked on header almost redirected a corner kick into the net, then Toldo got down well to block Cristian Chivu’s drive.

A spectacular Cassano overhead kick on Totti’s chested assist was captured by the Inter goalkeeper, though an offside flag also stopped the move as the two Italian internationals were on stunning form.

Sinisa Mihajlovic curled one of his trademark free kicks inches past the post and Toldo firmly held a Chivu set-piece in an extremely entertaining encounter.

However, despite all the pressure, it took a moment of sheer magic from Adriano to open the scoring in Inter’s favour. The Brazilian took Gianluca Curci by surprise when he unleashed a missile from all of 40 metres that the goalkeeper could only get a fingertip to. L’Imperatore was not set to feature in this Final, but he flew home from international duty and immediately made his mark.

Ferrari had already been booked and was fortunate to remain on the field soon after, as he clearly dragged Obafemi Martins back by his jersey, but Collina was lenient.

The Nerazzurri all but put the Coppa Italia in their trophy cabinet on the stroke of half-time, as Adriano got in front of Ferrari for a powerful header on Ze Maria’s free kick from the right.

In the second half Ferrari was again extremely lucky to avoid a second bookable offence for body-checking Martins and Roma threw on Vincenzo Montella for the trident attack. Within minutes he’d brought a save out of Toldo and Totti complained of Giuseppe Favalli’s handling offence as his cross was deflected, but it was clearly an unintentional contact.

There was further controversy moments later when Montella tapped in Mancini’s deflected shot, but the goal was disallowed for a debatable offside decision.

Roma were livelier in the closing half-hour and Cassano battled his way through defenders only to see Toldo smother his shot. Mancini was forced to limp off with an injury and made way for youth team player Greco, so he is a doubt for Wednesday’s second leg.

Roma were very unlucky in the closing stages when Cassano sprung the offside trap to flick on Perrotta’s cross and Toldo took the sting out of it with his palms. Moments later Montella again tested the goalkeeper’s reflexes, as Inter’s defence lost its focus.

It will take nothing short of a miracle for Bruno Conti to turn this result around at the San Siro on Wednesday evening, as Inter look set for their first Coppa Italia trophy since 1982.

Roma 0-2 Inter

Lima On Way Back To Rome
-----------------------------------------------------------------------The Brazilian midfielder is rumoured to return to the Giallorossi following an experience with Lokomotiv Moscow.
In the coming days, the Italian club is set to meet with the player’s agent to discuss a two-year deal. Lima is ready to decrease his 1.5 million Euro net wage in order to join back Roma, even though there are other European clubs after him who can guarantee him that amount.

The 34-year-old will also obtain an EU passport in June, therefore making his transfer even more appetizing for the Giallorossi.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Juve close in on Cassano Wednesday 15 June, 2005
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Juventus will complete the signing of Roma’s Antonio Cassano once they raise the funds to finance the move.

Reports are gathering pace that the starlet will be heading to Turin, after a deal is understood to have been agreed with both the club and the player.

The Giallorossi have allegedly accepted an £11m cash only offer, with Cassano set to be handed a five-year contract.

The Stadio Delle Alpi outfit are hoping to get a large chunk of that fee with the sales of Fabrizio Miccoli and Marcelo Zalayeta.

Fiorentina are set to hand over £5m to Juve in order to complete his full signing from the Bianconeri.

While the Italian champions are confident they can net around £5m from the sale of forward Marcelo Zalayeta.

Cassano is also a transfer target for Inter but it does seem as if the Old Lady of Italian football are in pole position to sign him.

In other Juventus transfer news, the club are today being linked with the Arsenal pair of Sol Campbell and Patrick Vieira.

Players heading out of Turin include Igor Tudor, Stephen Appiah, Nicola Legrottaglie and Manuele Blasi.

The last two men are being strongly associated with loan moves to Lazio, while Tudor may opt for Sampdoria.

How did she get high quality players to sign for us, and extend contracts of Totti, De Rossi and Aquilani by showing them a ambitious project? Look, you are obviously clueless to what happens in the Roma world so I suggest you do some research or keep your sexist comments to yourself.

Totti has Champions' dream Thursday 16 June, 2005
---------------------------------------------------------------------Francesco Totti has pledged his future to Roma and claims he will help the club to win the Champions’ League.

“I have signed a contract so that I’ll end my career with the Giallorossi because I am happy here,” he confirmed in a television interview with Sky Italia.

“I belong in this city and know how important it is for the Romans to have a local lad playing in the team.”

Totti’s future was in considerable doubt this year with reports of offers from Real Madrid, Inter and Chelsea.

The lack of success at the Stadio Olimpico – only qualifying for the UEFA Cup via the Coppa Italia Final and barely avoiding relegation – has not changed his mind on staying put until 2010.

“I have a dream for Roma and for myself, which is to help this club win the Champions’ League,” confessed the captain.

Totti will wed girlfriend Ilary Blasi on Sunday and she will give birth to their first son later this year, so with this new contract his life should find some stability.

However, there was a report that he had told a RAI journalist after yesterday's Coppa Italia Final defeat to Inter that he wasn't sure if he'd still be with the club next season. "He was trying to stir up trouble," assured the Italian international.

There was also a curious incident in which Totti discovered he has a famous fan – new 100 metre world record holder Asafa Powell.

“I met Asafa in an airport once and he said he was a huge Roma fan and wanted my autograph. He trains regularly in Rome and often comes to our games. Now it’s my turn to say how much I admire him for his achievements.”

Ferrari Wants To Follow Prandelli At Fiorentina
6/17/2005 6:56:00 PM
The Roma defender has declared his interest in joining the Viola.
Matteo Ferrari went through a terrible first season in Rome and is now considering whether to continue with the Giallorossi or leave his current club.

In recent days Fiorentina have reportedly expressed their wish of signing the young defender and reunite him with his former mentor at Parma: Cesare Prandelli.

“If Prandelli wants me in Florence I wouldn’t think twice about it. I read about Fiorentina's interest in the newspapers but I had too little time to think about anything else except Roma up till today.

“I must take important decisions about my future and I know that I have the respect and appreciation of the new Fiorentina coach.”

Roma appoint Spalletti
Friday 17 June, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As expected, Roma have officially appointed former Udinese boss Luciano Spalletti as their new Coach.

“I can safely say that Roma, its players, fans and the Eternal City are very exciting for a tactician,” he said after penning a two-year deal with an option to extend for a third.

The Giallorossi have confirmed in a statement that Spalletti will earn £1.4m per season plus bonuses for hitting certain targets.

The deal had been in the air for several weeks, but had been held up by the Friuli outfit’s refusal to release him from his contract.

A meeting with director general Pietro Leonardi on Thursday finally allowed the two to part company and Spalletti is now free to start his career at the Stadio Olimpico, while current boss Bruno Conti returns to the Roma youth team.

“Now I can breathe a sigh of relief,” he told Spq Radio. “I was never really worried, but clearly the consensual break with Udinese allows me to choose my future destination without pressure. I think the agreement suits both the Friuli outfit and myself.”

This is a major step up for the 46-year-old, who before joining Udinese had sat on the benches of Empoli, Sampdoria, Venezia and Ancona.

He came to the Giallorossi’s attention following this season’s remarkable fourth-place finish that qualified Udinese for the Champions’ League preliminary round.

Spalletti has already drawn up a shopping list for the Giallorossi and it’s believed he wants to bring David Pizarro with him from Udinese. The Chilean midfielder is also a target for Inter and Juventus, but the presence of the Coach at the Stadio Olimpico could sway him.

The main problem seems to be his £10m price-tag, so it’s possible Roma will instead turn their attention to Real Madrid benchwarmer Jose Maria Gutierrez, known to his fans as Guti. The talented player would cost just £5.3m.

Spalletti will already find three new arrivals, all of them on free transfers, as Siena’s Rodrigo Taddei, Bayern Munich defender Samuel Kuffour and Shabani Nonda of Monaco have all penned contracts over the last couple of weeks.

Finally to have Spelletti officially, now he can get to work.

i hope Dacourt leaves, not on form enough to really make an impact during the season.

Ferrari would like to go with Prandelli to Fiorentina...who knows what happens with that. Could be a case where he leaves and then turns into the player he was at Parma..so i dunno what will happen.

VDV is no longer wanted at Inter and 'rumors' are Inter would offer him plus 5 mill for Mancini..might be totally bogus though.

Pizarro is a good player but i dunno how much i would want to spend on him.

Guti, good player with a lot of skills but Madrid rate him highly...

Gotta put our trust in Spalletti though.

Zeman expected Roma call
Wednesday 22 June, 2005
Zdenek Zeman says he was expecting to be the new Roma boss after holding talks with the outfit.

The Czech tactician left Lecce this summer after speaking with Giallorossi officials, but they have since opted to hire Udinese’s Luciano Spalletti instead.

"I was contacted by Roma and I spoke with both (chief operating officer) Rosella Sensi and (director general) Daniele Prade," Zeman told Retesport on Wednesday.

"We spoke about the club’s future and they asked me to be patient as they had a few problems to resolve, issues that they seemingly haven’t been able to."

The capital outfit’s snub may now have cost the 4-3-3 man a place in Serie A as he was specifically waiting for the Roma call.

"I didn’t want to talk to other teams who were interested in me because I felt tied to Roma," he added.

"Then, after they signed Spalletti, Prade phoned me to inform me that they had taken that decision."

Rosella Sensi yesterday confirmed that she had spoken to Zeman but insists that they didn’t offer him anything.

"We talked but not about a contract," she said at Spalletti’s official presentation. "Our considerations since then led to Spalletti."

However, Zeman was seemingly a serious contender given that the club discussed transfer issues with him.

"We spoke about signings and sales, mostly about sales. They want to sell Antonio Cassano and also Amantino Mancini."

Both players are of interest to Juventus and Inter.

Miccoli wouldn’t reject Roma
Wednesday 22 June, 2005
Fabrizio Miccoli wants to stay at Fiorentina but his agent has opened the door for a switch to Roma.

The Italian international is currently part-owned by both Fiorentina and Juventus following his Tuscan move in August.

It had looked as if the Viola would buy him outright this summer after a splendid first season at the Stadio Franchi.

But reports recently have suggested that Miccoli could be re-signed by Juve and then offered to Roma in their attempts to net Antonio Cassano.

"It is the player’s desire to stay in Florence," his agent Francesco Caliandro told Nuova Spazio Radio.

"However, any decision which is made will be accepted without any problems by my client. That includes Roma.

"Fabrizio is a model professional and he has the maximum respect for any job offers which he receives."

In other transfer news, Sampdoria have signed Luigi Sala from Atalanta. The 31-year-old defender has arrived on a free transfer.

Samp have also renewed their ownership of Corrado Colombo, last season at Livorno, and Biagio Pagano.

However, both the attacker and midfielder are expected to spend next season on loan at other clubs.

The most powerful man in Italian football, Juventus general manager Luciano Moggi, has confirmed Juve are interested in signing Roma starlet Antonio Cassano, but then added the Bianconeri don’t have the money Roma want in exchange for the player’s services.
“The Cassano rumours aren’t fantasy stories. We are interested in signing the player, but unfortunately we don’t have the economic resources to do so,” Moggi told Italian television station Telelombardia.

“Roma aren’t looking for players, they want cash from Cassano’s sale,” he added.

Parisi eyes Roma switch Friday 24 June, 2005
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Messina defender Alessandro Parisi has revealed that he would be tempted by a move to Roma.

The full-back has been a revelation for the Sicilian outfit this season, helping them to a fantastic seventh place finish in Serie A.

And his good form hasn’t got unnoticed in the Italian capital.

“It would be beautiful for me to play for Roma - it is a great club and a great squad,” Parisi stated.

“Even though I’m very much tied to Messina and Sicily, I would give serious consideration to the offer from such a high-profile squad”

Juventus have also been touted as a possible destination for Parisi, who made the breakthrough into Marcello Lippi’s Azzurri squad this season.

The Bianconeri even took the 28-year-old on their end of season tour of Japan.

Reports suggest that representatives Bolotnikoff and Franchi are inside the Trigoria training ground for negotiations that could reach a positive conclusion before the end of the evening.

Left-back Placente had long been linked with Roma, but is now a free agent after his contract with Leverkusen expired.

It’s believed he has been offered a three-year deal worth £600,000 per season, whereas Placente is holding out for £1m each term.

Argentine international Placente had also been suggested as a potential transfer target for Manchester United, Milan, Juventus and Chelsea.

If he puts pen to paper, he will be the fourth free agent Roma have captured over the last month after Monaco’s Shabani Nonda, Rodrigo Taddei of Siena and Bayern Munich defender Samuel Kuffour.

i dont think placente would be worth 1M a season, but we would probably overpay and sign him for that

Does Chivu have the pace to play the left permanently?

Reports in Portugal say that Abel Xavier will play for Roma one more year.

Why would Roma extend this dude's contract? :o

because he's a pimp legend

i don't think so yoss, he's a lot better as a central defender but can be used on the left, not as a permanent left back tho, he doesn't made cafu/maldini like runs

He started his career on the left if I'm not mistaken. He played at Craiova on the left, then for the romanian NT in 2000 on the left, and for Ajax on the left, but I might be wrong

he doesn't made cafu/maldini like runs

add zambrotta to that list (C)

and i really dont want chivu on the left. i think he is 10x more effective in the middle. if he can create a bond with mexes in the middle, it could become realy special and quite the tandem

Cool. I'm only making that inquiry from an Inter perspective since we've got a somewhat vacant LB spot.

He can play anywhere...****, i wish he played in midfield last season so we would actually have a complete midfielder who can win the ball and pass it well...but then who would cover for Mexes and Ferrari. :boohoo:

Anyways...Placente would be quality. Dunno if that means the Chiellini hypothisis is garbage but who knows.

for sure Maresca is 100% Fiorentina's ....who knows where the other two men will go.

Mancini turns his back on Roma
Saturday 25 June, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Amantino Mancini’s new agent has confirmed that the Brazilian has no intention of staying at the Stadio Olimpico, alerting Juve, Inter and Real Madrid.

“Amantino wants to leave Roma,” announced new representative Gilmar Veloz. “At this moment in time he is not at the centre of any negotiations, but the club knows full well what his intentions are and he has already put in a transfer request.”

Mancini was a gamble when he was signed two seasons ago as a replacement for Marcos Cafu, as he had spent most of the previous campaign on the bench at Serie B minnows Venezia.

However, he turned into one of their most impressive players and scored some spectacular goals, including a backheel flick in the Rome derby.

It has become clear for several weeks that he wishes to move on and even changed representative – taking on Emerson’s agent Veloz – to facilitate the next step in his career.

Inter, Real Madrid and Juventus have all expressed an interest in the winger, although reports suggest Mancini wishes to join Fabio Capello and Emerson in Turin.

The situation could yet turn ugly, as he only renewed his contract with the Giallorossi a few months ago. “I wasn’t his manager at the time,” explained Veloz. “At this stage, it’s all up to Roma.”

Should Juventus fail to capture Mancini, then they are looking overseas for viable alternatives. These include Arsenal man Robert Pires and Real Madrid starlet Guti.

Dont mind the first part, its about the last part.

Sheva "offered to Real Madrid"
Saturday 25 June, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Transfer guru Ernesto Bronzetti has revealed that Milan once offered Andriy Shevchenko to Real Madrid, while Walter Samuel is on the verge of joining Inter.

“I was on the boat on the coast of Ibiza with Real President Florentino Perez and Rossoneri Vice-President Adriano Galliani when Shevchenko was offered to us,” revealed the consultant. “The striker was coming off a difficult period of his career, but Perez preferred to sign Ronaldo instead.”

As Ronaldo left Inter in 2002 and Shevchenko had scored just 14 Serie A goals that season, it is easy to track back to the time of this sensational offer.

Real and Chelsea have repeatedly made £30m bids for the Ukrainian in recent years and all have been rejected out of hand by Galliani. There were even reports that Ronaldo was interested in a return to Serie A football.

“It’s all talk! Ronaldo and David Beckham are the only players they will never sell because they are talented and precious commodities on a media level.”

Bronzetti continues to work for Madrid and gave the ‘Corriere dello Sport’ newspaper some insight into the rumoured double move for Walter Samuel and Santiago Solari.

“The deal to bring Samuel and Solari to Inter should be completed on Monday or Tuesday. We are waiting for the Confederations Cup to end, as Samuel is a consummate professional and wants to concentrate on Argentina’s campaign.”

The Santiago Bernabeu outfit has also been linked with a bid for Antonio Cassano, but again Bronzetti believes otherwise.

“The only Coach who can control Cassano is Fabio Capello, so he’ll go to Juventus. I expect Roma’s Amantino Mancini to do the same.”

If Mancini does go to Juve then I guess that would leave Esposito to Inter. He has reportedly said he wants to join the Nerazzuri. Wasn't he also linked to Roma? I doubt it since you got that other guy... what's his name? Mancini's replacement on the RW?

im lost here, we signed taddei to strengthen the squad, not so he could take mancini's role and we could sell mancini

IMO if mancini doesn't want to be here then he can get his ass outta here, he was worthless with the exception of 2 games this season.

Placente-Roma: A Yes Is On The Horizon
6/25/2005 3:01:00 PM
Several newspaper reports in Italy are signalling that AS Roma are on the verge of signing Diego Placente on a free.
The Argentine defender’s contract with Bayer Leverkusen expires next week, and a number of European clubs are after his services including Atletico Madrid and Tottenham.

However Placente has express a desire to play in the Italian Serie A, and would prefer to experience calcio in the passionate Italian capital.

In this moment there are two things holding the deal back from completion.

Roma are offering the player 900,000 euros a season, while Placente wants at least 500,000 more.

In addition, the Giallorossi would like Placente to sign a three-year contract, while he wants a four-year one.

Roma’s objective is to wrap things up quickly, as next week FIFA might force them to suspend all transfer activities as punishment for the Mexes affair.

i hope he signs, a natural LB would help us.

and **** auxerre and their stupid mexes ****, they lost him for cheap, deal with it

Pizarro and Ricardinho for Roma
Sunday 26 June, 2005
David Pizarro has confirmed his desire to join Luciano Spalletti at Roma, while the club is also in talks for Brazilian midfielder Ricardinho.

“David was already interested in joining the Giallorossi before, let alone now that Spalletti is in charge,” explained his agent Fernando Hidalgo.

The Chilean midfielder has also been linked with Juventus and Inter over the last six months, but seems to have set his heart on the Stadio Olimpico.

“Udinese know that he wants to leave. As soon as a concrete offer is received, we will go to the directors and put pen to paper. Roma are without a shadow of doubt his preferred option.”

Pizarro is not the only South American who is of interest to the Giallorossi, as reports suggest they are in negotiations for Ricardinho.

The 29-year-old Santos midfielder is considered to be a perfect replacement for Emerson and already has an EC passport. His price-tag is £4.4m, but Roma face competition from Real Madrid and Turkish outfit Fenerbahce.

"I consigli alla Roma li ho sempre dati, ma prima non li ascoltavano. E c’era chi pensava solo a difendere il suo posto. Ma ora hanno capito che non dico stupidaggini e infatti non arriveranno più Perrotta, Ferrari, Mido e Mexes, che non doveva costare e invece è costato otto milioni. Cassano? Non può interessarci. La Roma deve incassare, la Juve non può spendere. A Roma ora le cose sono cambiate".

hey tottiiiii, whats your source?

pizarro would be great, pricey but great. i know absolutely nothing about ricardinho, any info would be nice.

No newpaper insider but a friend from another board who gets the latest on whats going on in Rome. A former Roma Boy actually, hes a lot older than me or you. But he will be the first to say its never 100% certain. Especially with Roma. He said that Cassano wants to stay(which was pretty much always the case), but Roma were set on selling him..But now he is trying to let them know he really wants to stay and Rosella might decide to work things out and get a deal done. But again, no one knows for sure but a small group of people.

Ricardinho is a left-footed midfielder who players for Santos right now...

Hes a good passer and can hold the ball well. Emerson type player but not as physically dominating. i believe he is 29....Good freekick taker as well. Id like to have him judging from what i have seen since he is very good on the ball. But i dunno how he would go from Brazil to Italy .
