I doubt Henry would join Barça to rotate. He would want a starting place week in week out, considering his ego.

And his skill.

aggressive reply:

at Arsenal, no one comes close to Henry; at Barca, Henry will be #2 behind Ronaldinho; and if he plays well, he'll be on par with Eto'o, who is a huge fan favourite ... if all he wants is to have his ass licked and not challenge for every trophy every season as Barca do, then he can stay in London ...

however, if he's willing to shelve some of that pride, then he can come on over to the best team in Europe ... because, as you have noted, the man has skill ...

arrogant answer:

let Barca beat the Ars in the UCL final, and he'll be catching a flight into El Prat in no time ...

pragmatic view:

let him first decide to come, then we'll see where he plays ...

I said i pretty much doubt he would join to rotate, as he can acquire a first team position in any squad in the world, that's a fact. And when you're skillful as that, and we add some arrogance, well, you know. That's my opinion.

And when you're skillful as that, and we add some arrogance, well, you know. That's my opinion.I think Eto'o is the only player who Rijkaard has not included in rotations. He has not had any rest this season. Some people think that it's because he would get mad at Rijkaard if he doesn't play.

If Henry comes, none of them would have a rotation role, but, in one month, maybe they would have to play 5 games instead of 6. That or Rijkaard changes the tactic to 4-2-4, something I wouldn't like. 4-3-3 is perfect, we can play all kind of games with that tactic.

Maybe we're talking too much, we don't know if Henry will come. If signing Henry means that we don't have money for a CB, then I hope Henry stays at Arsenal. Honestly, a world class defender would make me happier than Henry. I'm fully satisfied with Ronaldinho-Eto'o-Messi.

Let's come back to real life.. any news about Kaka-Nesta injuries?

Ricardo Carvalho has been performing even better than Terry...

I don't know what has gone to Mourinho's mind to sell him, really... he's losing a key player there, in my opinion... but, the man knows what he's doing.... i think...

If Barça can afford to buy Carvalho, i think it would be one of their best signings for next season... (Y)

Carvalho has been Chelsea's weak link a lot of the time.

I watch many chelsea games, and really me and the commentators don't have the same opinion... :)

I'll juss assume that you're from that group of chelsea fans (or gloryhunters maybe), that were saying Ricardo Carvalho was the guilty part for that goal by Ronaldinho, in the Stamford Bridge game (first leg against barca), where Dinho totally owned Terry... but some twats were trying to make a villain out of Ricardo Carvalho, and never mentioned his efforts against Barca, in the both legs... they were just focused on praising Terry's efforts.... but really... Ricardo Carvalho played better and more calmly than Terry.... but you'll never agree wit me, right?!

Just a biased point here-

For English clubs, the grass is rarely greener on the other side for players who made their name in England.

Look at Stam, Overmars, Petit, Anelka, Vieira etc.

So if you get Henry he'll probably flop. Just think about it, tell your club that HE WILL FAIL! HE WILL NEVER SCORE!

FC Messina Peloro 1-3 AC Milan

Milan came from behind to earn an important 3-1 away win at Messina on Saturday. Goals from Marek Jankulovski, Gennaro Gattuso and Alberto Gilardino cancelled out Giuseppe Sculli's opener in a hard-fought game that saw Messina finish with just eight of their players left on the field. Sculli, Antonio Noverino and Salvatore Aronica were all shown red cards while Clarence Seedorf was also dismissed for the visitors after a dispute with Aronica in the last minute.

Milan's win could yet prove crucial to the title race as Juventus succumbed to their sixth Serie A draw and are only three points clear of the Rossoneri. However, Alessandro Nesta, Kaká and Massimo Ambrosini, Kaká's replacement on Saturday, all picked up knocks and could need treatment ahead of the trip to Barcelona. Coach Carlo Ancelotti was already without Filippo Inzaghi and Alessandro Costacurta (flu), while club captain Paolo Maldini stayed at home to recover from a minor muscular problem. Playmaker Andrea Pirlo, meanwhile, missed the match through suspension while concerns about Cafu's ankle subsequently proved unfounded.

Ancelotti deployed his strongest available lineup, with the exception of Rui Costa, who replaced Pirlo and was pleased with the result, although not the injury developments. "The race for the Serie A title is not over yet," said Ancelotti. "We still have three games to finish top. Our target is to win them all and to do everything we can. At the moment, I cannot talk about the conditition of the players that picked up injuries but Kaká was hit hard. We will attack against Barcelona as we did during the first-leg game."

Nervy night

Milan will be in action at Camp Nou the following day against a Barcelona team shorn of Oleguer Presas, who is the only other player from the four semi-finalists to be banned for Matchday 12. The defender was yellow-carded in Barça's 1-0 victory at the San Siro which has set them up perfectly for Wednesday's conclusion. Rafael Márquez, Carles Puyol and Mark van Bommel are all in for a nervy night, though, as one wrong move could sideline them for the 17 May showpiece in Paris, should the Spanish champions make it.

Who do you think will replace Oleguer? I REALLY REALLY HOPE that neither puyol nor marquez pick up a booking, or else we will be really screwed. especially if puyol gets booked. assuming we go through, of course.... :fool:

Surely Belleti will replace Oleguer. If the macth against Milan goes well, i mean, 2-0 for Barça in the first part, or 60 minutes, they will be replace sure by Rodri and Gabri or something like that. Both, Puyol and Márquez are so much important on this scheme for to dont go to the final due to another yellow card.

By the way, nice pool on Sevilla...my god...

but I don't think I can hold onto top spot though; I didn't know you couldn't make transfers for the second leg :(

as for the match ...

I agree that with Puyol and Marquez treading a fine line, Rijkaard will probably take the first chance he gets of taking both of them off ... I'm just worried that if we weaken ourselves that little bit, Milan might pull that last-minute trick in our own backyard ... early goals for us will help, but I hope that we just don't rest on the lead and let Milan dictate ...

I don't think it would be a tragedy if Van Bommel gets suspended for the final. Motta, Edmilson, Iniesta, Deco, and hopefully Xavi will all be there and can make up a 3 man midfield.

Losing Maruqez would be bad, but we can throw someone else in there and hopefully manage. If Puyol gets suspended, I'm going to cry. If both of them get suspended, I'm going to jump off a cliff!

I agree, in the interest of everyone involved, why don't they just get rid of these stupid suspensions for the final. The scenario we find ourselves in is proof enough that the rule should go.

Is it possible for us to win the league this weekend? I don't think so, but that would be awesome if we could do that too. I really hope we win it at home, and I hope that Xavi gets to play soon. It will be AMAZING seeing him play again.

Oh my word, how amazing is Iniesta. He has been our best midfielder for ages now. He wins the ball so effortlessly, has amazing vision, and never gets tired. What a quality youngster. I see no reason he shouldn't be in the Spanish squad for the World Cup, he's much better than some of the other midfielders that get picked. Having him run the Midfield along with Xavi might be just what Spain needs to kickstart their international campaign (along with getting rid of Raul, of course).

when xavi is back to full fitness, do you think that iniesta and xavi will start together in midfield? i definately think that Iniesta should stay on, and xavi should replace edmilson. I can't remember what our starting lineup was at the start of the season when we went on that amazing run where each game was 3-0, 4-0, but we should try to get back to that again.

terrific finish from Ronnie, and applause to him for giving the credit Belleti, who did provide a good assist ... we're in total control of the game, although that we did escape with that goal ruled offside ... it was tight to say the least ...

Chalk up another win!

Ronnie's first half strike settles it ... some nervy moments from the defense, especially towards the end, but Valdes was brilliant!

biggest cheer was for one Hernandez Xavi, who made a successful return! :clapwap:

poor Eto'o ... what's with season finales and him? bloody deja vu so far (once again he's second in the Golden Shoe race AND has a striker in red-hot form breathing down his neck for the Pichichi) ...

let's hope he forgets last season, and gets it right this time ...

anyway, good win ... no damage suffered ... let's keep on keepin' on!

So Messi set to play on Wednesday against Cadiz?

they're playing Celta mid-week ... but nah man, Messi won't be risked at least until next week ... he really badly wants to play in the Champions League final, and feels that his patience will reap dividends (he rushed back from injury last time, and that did not work out at all for him ... so he's making 100% sure this time that he'll play in the final v. Arsenal, and then go on to star in Germany ...)

great to see Xavi back. get him some games like 3-4 and he should be ready for the finals. Him and Deco in that midfield will destroy Arsenals mid, plain and simple.

"destroy" is such a powerful word ... try it, say it ... DESTROY!

and you're absolutely right ... they more than have the ability to do so, not only due to skill, but mere mental toughness ... Deco is one of the most brilliant thinkers in football, hence his overwhelming success with Porto, Barca, and the Portuguese national team ... Xavi is no slouch either ... he's not spearheading the Spanish midfield by being a slouch!

and if the Arsenal midfield can be destroyed, then it'll be annihilation at the back ... Arsenal have shut out everyone in knock-out stages, and Lehmann, Toure & Co. have been great ... but they quickly forget that they played two legendary teams that were in horrendous form ...

Real Madrid have shown such terrible cohesion this season that their inability to score against Arsenal was not at all surprising ... they really on a major ebb as a whole ...

and when they played Juventus, the Bianconeri had hit a slump big enough for them to go from being runaway league leaders to throwing the title away ... that was a shadow of the formidable Juve side that can be seen on paper ...

Villareal lack pace, and Roman did not get enough support to carve open Arsenal in London ... with better finishing Guille Franco could have tied up the game three times over ...

but with Samuel Eto'o, Ronaldinho, and Ludovic Giuly or hopefully a fit-again Leo Messi, there is blistering pace on all three fronts ... Ronnie, Deco, Xavi can pull the strings and thread the needle over and over again ... once more, there's not one player doing the job, but THREE! ... and Deco, Iniesta, and at the back Puyol are such ball-winners ... none of that crap Javi Venta was allowing them in the first leg of the Arse-Villareal game ... all we need to do is stick to the basics, and the game is in the bag! and of all the people, Arsene Wenger will know this all too well ... will be a terrific final, and hopefully a glorious night for the BLAUGRANA!

Tot el camp,

Som la gent blaugrana,
tan se val d'on venim,
si del sud o del nord,
ara estem d'acord, estem d'acord,
una bandera ens agermana.

Blaugrana al vent,
un crit valent,
tenim un nom, el sap tothom,

BARÇA!! BARÇA!! BAAAARÇA!!!!

Jugadors,
seguidors,

Tots units fem força,
son molts anys plens d'afanys,
son molts gols que hem cridat,
i s'ha demostrat, s'ha demostrat,
que mai ningú ens podra torcer.

Blaugrana al vent,

Ok, so the Team have completed their last training session in Barcelona before setting off to Paris.. This is it, ladies and gentlemen. It's what everything comes down to... Every training session, every match, every hour spent by a member of FC Barcelona working on tactics, preparing the players for the next match, pointing out their mistakes and letting them know how to correct it, every injury healed by our doctors, every tear, every drop of sweat, every smile and every celebration will come down to a single match on Wednesday. The Champions League final. In Paris. Against Arsenal.
I cannot stres enough how proud I am of our Team. Not only have they won the league with ease, but they have also impressed with their attractive football. Few teams can achieve both results and attraction. We're that kind of team and I can only be happy and proud about it. We're not like some clubs who have stains on their cups. Ours is one shiny trophy that we're not letting go of. We're top of Spain, looking down on Madrid, Valencia and other strong teams who have failed to put a dent to our title challenge.
It doesn't get better than this. We have got the chance to make history. I can say that I've never seen a more successful Barca and I hope we can go all the way. We are very close and are strong favourites to win it. It's just one match so anything can happen, but I remain confident in our players. They have performed like champions this season and I'm glad we have developed the kind of attitude winning teams have. We've rearranged our priorities and that has brought us to Paris. The whole Club has done a great job on every aspect of the football business. We're in constant growth and there's no better way to crown it all than with the biggest trophy imaginable.
I'm not underestimating Arsenal, on the contrary, I approach them with respect, but to be honest we could have had it worse. If someone asked me at the beginning of the season if I would mind facing Arsenal in the final, I would have said "no", and that's what I base my optimism on. Objectively speaking, we are better than Arsenal. We have better players and should win. All we need is Lady Luck not turn her back on us. We don't even have to be lucky. I just hope we won't be unlucky, and everything will be ok.
I've already informed my girlfriend and my dad that we're watching the final, everything is almost set, all that's left is for Puyol to lift that beautiful trophy.

Visca el Barca!

Congratulations to all you Barca die hards, ole, DT, Solaimaa, ZKA, Panxoman, etc. We'll deserved victory after you dominated statistically, and it was very touching to see Belletti and Larsson do so well. Thank you guys it's really crazy to win it again after so many years and i was thinking about players that were in the team those 5 years, some great, some a bit disappointing but would've been nice if guys like Cocu and Luis Enrique could've been a part of the squad (at least on the bench!).

Now we must enjoy but i was thinking since Henry is not coming (good for everybody) and Henke is going to Sweden (unfortunately) what do you think the best option for his cover is?. There's been also talk that Giuly may go or he may stay so i hope he sticks another year.

The press have been talking about Forlán for a while and again today. Somebody that could be available like Van Nistelrooy? Trezeguet? Crespo? Kuyt? Farfan? or older names like Iaquinta, Rosenberg or would you bring back Saviola or give Maxi a chance?...Or would you break the bank for somebody like Torres?...Not Drogba please...

It seems they have far too much cava (something close to champagne) in the truck.

Once in the stadium, all of them were supposed to make a speech, but after Rijkaard and the captains had spoken, the microphone suffered a sudden technical problem that couldn't be solved ...On the radio they said that those problems are usually very easy to repair …

They guessed that some players had drunk a bit too much and it was wiser to not give them a microphone… you know :lui: :fool:

Not confirmed.

Thanks to everybody who congratulated us on the title.

It's beautiful to be champions of Europe. And we've won the 50th edition, too. It's just incredible.

----------------------

I was at school and we had gym class just two hours before the match. I was nervous about it so a friend of mine joined me in slamming the ball into the net as hard as possible. I let off some steam and went on to meet my girlfriend and take her to my house to watch the Final. First I watched the preview of the match with her and then we joined our parents to watch it with them. I was on the edge all the time, but I calmed down after we had conceded because I didn't know how to react. One of the things I said was "Typical Barca, we can't have a nice, quiet final...", but luckily we prevailed. After the match I watched the celebration, hugged my girlfriend and my parents and escorted her home, then played the Barca anthem, and went online to watch pics, read comments and enjoy myself.
Simply beautiful.

Perfect night.

It's in Athens on May 23rd.

Right now we have to keep the group.

Although I know some of you didn't want Henry to come, I've heard that in fact he already had a pre-contract signed with Barça. The mistake was that there was no penalisation clause if one of the parts decided to break it. (we should learn from madrid to do this)

Henry felt guilty for missing so many good chances in the final and decided after the match to follow in arsenal to give back to its supporters what he thinks he stole to them with his mistakes.

Barça planification for next season has changed now as everything was planned to have Henry playing here.

I'm not very keen on Forlan ... one of the players that is right now the more possible striker to come to substitute Larsson. Anyway is much too early and just rumours rumours

Because the season is very long and having 4 great players for 3 spots is good.

Besides, this is a after WC season and players will be tired and maybe more relaxed. You need someone good enough to put some pressure and motivate them.

If Messi, Etoo and Ronaldinho have someone pushing from the bench who can steal their spot in the starting line-up, they can not get relaxed... and it's very different to have Henry pussing from the bench (or rotating in the line-up spots) than someone like Maxi or Forlan.

I don't want Forlan either. I think we need some tall striker.

According to Mundo Deportivo, this might be the new design for the 2006-07 shirt:

http://www.elmundodeportivo.es/mundo-img/20060529a/60_archivo55_graphic_10_1_2_20060529_YBA05M1.EPS.j pg

Similar to the centenary shirt and same type of model they're making for Atletico. The collar will have the club's emblem " Més que un Club" (More than a Club) and the shorts will be blue again. The new second kit will be bright orange, and the bright yellow will be the third kit now. It's not confirmed yet but that seems to be the idea.

Always at beggining nobody likes the new kit (i rebember that the red shorts and the yellow 2nd kit didnt like) So now another new first kit and returning again to the blue shorts. I think that is a matter of time, i meant that nike always has the reason in this sense, you see for first time the shirt and you think.."pfff....hmmm....i dont know", but after a few matches you cannot imagine your team without this new shirt (finally the yellow shirt has been a totally success). One of the things that i like is that from one of the sides the player will be totally in blue. And it remembers a bit to the centenary one (2 strips), and the other one is the orange color from the 2nd kit, like a reminder from Wembley. So, personally i like more red strips, but it will be cool, overall for the "més que un club" on the back neck.

Take care

There are kits you like from the moment you see them and you grow to love them so much that you compare them with every other kit your team has, and there are kits you don't like which you grow to like or tolerate simply because it's your team and your favourite players.

Totally agree. Indeed the basic idea is BLUE shirt and RED strips, from here you can make a lot of combinations like this last one that is in this last "group" that you are talking about. But i add another "group" of shirt, did you remember the Kappa kit? With the White Strip along the arms, pfff...this is the kind of shirts that i think that a fan will never tolerate although it will be your heart team.

I haven´t see too the orange one, but for that i heard, seems to be identical to the yellow one, but in a fluorescent orange, is not exactly like the 92´s, is more a shinny orange. In a few days F.C.Barcelona will anounce the shirts in his website, with detailed photos, etc.

For the moment we can take a look to this photoshop pics of how it will be look the new one, from "El Mundo Deportivo" newspaper

I don't think it's a matter of Ajax not being able to find a quality player in their youth ranks, it's more a matter of ten Cate wanting to work with players he knows everything about. I'm surprised they've signed a new forward so soon. I was expecting some drama with Forlan or someone else. Supposedly Manchester United and Arsenal wanted to sign Gudjohnsen but Mourinho didn't want him to go to any of those clubs, so instead of making it more difficult, it was easier for Barça.

On top of that, the beauty of Eidur is that he is team first, 100%. He will sacrifice his personal glory or his best position to fill the roles the team needs him to. He did it this year regularly at Chelsea, sliding to midfield when his scoring was down.

He was very proud to be a Chelsea player, and selling him to anyone was, in my opinion, a mistake. But at a club as big as Barca, with fans like yours he is getting just what he deserves. He will be just as proud or even more so to wear your colours and will be a class act off and on the pitch. Congratulations on signing him.

I am surprised he wont be taking the number 22, but at least I have an excuse to get a Barca shirt if the opportunity ever comes along, now :)

He's a good player. But has never recaptured his form from 3/4 years ago when he actually scored more than like 5 goals in a season.

Perfect. That's what we were looking for. We didn't need a golden boot, we needed a replacement for Larsson. If I'm not wrong, he's not played always as a striker, so the goal rate is not very relevant.

However, not bad statistics.

"During his six seasons with Chelsea, Gudjohnsen scored 78 goals in 263 matches, and is the second overseas player that has played more matches with the 'blues'. He has also been a great provider of goals last season he made 9 goal assists for Chelsea, superseded only by Frank Lampard (17)."

We're lucky Iceland didn't qualify. If they had, we wouldn't have got Eidur so quickly and so easily. I'm delighted with the signing.

As for Messi's number, I expect him to pick 11. He switched from 30 to 19. What's so special about nineteen? I don't think it was taken before... I think he had to pick a number lower than 25 because first team players in La Liga can have a number as big as 25, not bigger. With the pro contract, a new number. As for number changing, it can be done until the registration window closes, which is the end of August I think. Whether he sticks with a number or changes it five times is irrelevant.

I think we will sign another player. The summer hasn't even started yet. I don't see Zambrotta as an option because Juve won't be relegated. It's naive to expect otherwise. I'd be satisfied with Alves, Navas or G. Milito.

Good signing. A bit expensive but it's to be expected as big clubs always tend to get sticked a couple of mil more than other clubs. I've seen quite a bit of him and I agree that he's pretty good technically and reads the game well. I think he had a much better year last season for Chelsea and this year he didn't play as much or shine as much but that's likely because he was used as an attacking midfielder instead of striker. He's still pretty young or at his peak so that's a positive as well. He'll be a good replacement for Henke as a rotational striker.

It'd be nice to get a couple more signings. A good center-back and, like DT said, one or two fullbacks would be great and would push our players in those positions to perform better.

Also i've read we just signed a 7 year TV deal for 1,000 million Euros. It's a substantial yearly raise over the current deal. Good for the finances.

In defense of Eidur, his goal scoring record this year was awful because 1. Drogba was better and healthier, and Crespo was back with us, and 2. Mourinho converted him into a midfielder. Last year it should be noted that he bagged 14 in all competitions when he was still the second choice

His best work was as a linkup man for Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink four years ago. I know your team is blessed with attackers, but if you make him Etoo's partner up front, he will make him the world's deadliest striker, hands down

Good, because he'll play with Eto'o. Eto'o wants to play every single minute and he is rarely substituted. Gudjohnsen would play as a lone striker only if Eto'o is injured or suspended. Maybe in Copa del Rey too.

He'll be more to come in when we need another forward, or to substitute Messi or Giuly, or when Ronaldinho can't play.

About Juve. I think it's too evident. A lot of people involved who have lost their job already. From what I've heard/read, it's almost sure that they'll get relegated. I think the surprise would be that they stay in the Serie A. That doesn't mean that we'll get Zambrotta or anyone else for sure though.

have you heard that unicef will be on the shirts next year?

Barça should think about it twice, if nike happens to use child labour, we will easly get the tag of hypocrite. Maybe Barça and Unicef teaming together can do good (we will also assign 0.7% of the income to charity), but it also can affect both image.

As long as we don't have a sponsor on our shirt.

Nike produces Barça shirts in Morocco, not in Asia. Besides, It's the same for almost every brand. Most big companies produce or use produced goods that come from asian countries where human rights are not respected.

We won't be getting about 20M euros/season due to this agreement. That's a lot of money. Saying no to this is not easy, speacially if no other club does and we have to fight with them.

Getting a charity on your shirt would be class. Props.

If we're going to break the tradition, I'm glad it's for a worthy cause. I would feel proud.

However, I think a logo in the sleeve would make everyone happy.

That makes no difference, nike allegedly uses child labour and Unicef is for universal primary education

I'd like to see it on the sleeve.

Maybe I'm wrong, but preserving tradition is more important than promoting Unicef. We'd break one of the things that make us unique in order to promote an organisation the whole world knows about. If we can help them by putting their logo on the sleeve, ok, I'm all for it.

But if we're really going to break the tradition, I'd go with Unicef. Somehow I wouldn't want to receive money for the printing. That way we'd still be special, even with the printed shirt.

I wouldn't mind to wear advertising if our economy needs it.

as the economic problem is under control, the Unicef option is a good one.
