Actually Keane is from Ireland and the Republic thereof

If we were to lump Duffa, Given, Keane, Keane2, maybe Holland, O'Sheasey with "Britain" then that constitutes something of an improvement

see that big isle on the right? we call it Britian. it involves England, Wales, Scotland. the northern part of the isle on the left is called Northern Ireland. Britian + Northern Ireland = United Kingdom. everything that's "under" this northern part is called Republic of Ireland, and it's indepedent state. you understand me now?

Don't try and give me a Geography lesson son.

The United Kingdom (UK) is the nation state consisting of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The UK is a nation you little ****e.

However, Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland have their own national teams as they are countries in their own right but they are politically governed by Westminster.

Well.. they have separate teams on footie because FIFA recognizes England, Scotland, Wales and NI as separate federations... the international olympic comitee however does not... i'm not sure whether they have separate national olympic comitees but I'm thinking they don't... also, the first international match was between England and Scotland, while I'm guessing the UK competed as a single team in the first olympics...
The UN recognizes UK as a single member too

Scotland has its own parliament for devolved issues.

Scotland has its own parliament for devolved issues.

The Scottish Parliament was reconstituted as a body which deals with matters which have been devolved to it by the UK Parliament!

Basically it is constrained very tightly by Westminster and can therefore not govern Scotland fully.

There are several areas of national policy, which are reserved to Westminster, and the Scottish Parliament has no power over. Foreign and Defence policy are debated and legislated at Westminster, as are employment, social security and fiscal policy, as these policies affect the United Kingdom as a whole. Also economic decisions including the nationalisation or privatisation of national utilities are taken at Westminster. As Scotland is still an integral part of the United Kingdom, the national policies listed above are beyond the jurisdiction of the Scottish Parliament.

Don't think Roy Keane, Shay Given, Robbie Keane, Damian Duff or Kevin Kilbane would get in that team ... They are Irish!
P.S.
I did a wee bit of searching on the web and it seems we have seperate national teams because Britain was instrumental in founding International Football.
The first ever international match was between Scotland and England in 1872 in Glasgow. ( 0-0 score. )
It also seems that the Fifa vice-president always has to be from one of the home nations. The current vice-president is David Will from Scotland.

look the UK is a collection of 'nations' as such... Wales,Scotland and N.Ireland long ago used to be independant areas.
Nowadays all the 'nations' have their own independence parties, plaid cymru and the SNP whatnot. They're all accountable to the govt. in London in terms of politics but FFS why would the Scottish want to be on the same football team as the English.

The whole point of it being the UK in the Olympics is because the IOC don't recognise the concept that Scotland etc have their own national pride, people in england would never consider supporting a scottish player as part of 'Team U.K'

Being that he is a resident of the United Kingdom im willing to bet he is much more knowledgeable about the collective and individual cultural identities of the peoples of Britain and the UK whereas (was that the word you were looking for?) you, as I am, are just an outsider with no real understanding of the situation and feelings of those people involved. On top of that your atrocious grammer/spelling gives you no credibility at all

You douche. LOLZ BBQ (do I even need the eyes rolling here?)

For some of the more obvious questions people have on here about political history and the like, i suggest www.wikipedia.org. Of course, its not great for everything, but it will do just fine for many of these point of clarification that will be/should have been cleared up by the average Middle School Social Studies text book. Im not trying to be an asshole, im just trying to help (Y)

By treaty i think, but yea....they were apart, that's why NI is still there.
The treaty you speak of was that which, I believe, established Ireland's independence as a free state in 1921. For more info on this, see the movie Michael Collins (or if your not lazy, read a book) but as I recall, the issue of ceeding the 6 counties which made up most of historic ulster to Britain (Mayo, Armagh, Derry, Antrim, Tyronne, and Monahaghn and yes, I had to look the names up) divided the Irish patriots, like Collins and DeValera and sparked a civil war. It was an issue of conceeding the north to Britain, or potentially having no independence at all.

'Least, thats what I heard
