I mean under Protasov he didn't even have a chance to show what he can do. Anyway, I don't really want Nicolita to leave us this soon, let him go after a couple of more years, please. And about Ogararu, he is the best right-back in Divizia A in my opinion (was in Pirturca's views last year), so if he goes his absence will be really felt.

Apple theft
Football was Nicolita's way out of poverty. He has learned to grab his chances with both hands ever since he and a sibling were almost lynched by angry spectators who caught them stealing apples from a garden following a game involving his local side. That team, FC Unirea Faurei, gave Nicolita his first paying job, and he remembers spending the first €9 he earned on a pair of training shoes. What money he had left he gave to his mother, who brought up the midfielder and his four brothers and sisters alone. "I was tempted to buy other stuff, too, but I desperately needed trainers," he said.

Collision course
At 16, second division FC Dacia Unirea Braila spotted Nicolita's talent, and he was soon on a collision course with the big time, making his debut for Romania's Under-21s in August 2003 before earning a move to Divizia A side FCU Politehnica Timisoara in summer 2004. Money continued to be an issue for Nicolita. He turned up for his first training session at his new club by train and barely had anything suitable to wear.

Steaua call
However, things were to become much easier six months later when he was brought to Steaua for a fee of €100,000. "It was the greatest experience and the biggest opportunity of my life," Nicolita said. "It changed everything." It did not change his outlook on life, however, as he continues to demonstrate the hard-running and clean-living attributes which have contributed to his rise to stardom.

Career high
He reached another career high on 12 November last year when he debuted for the senior national team, but things have not always been easy for Nicolita, whose Roma origins have made him a target for racist abuse from the stands. Nicolita is doing his bit to combat the problem in Romanian football, fronting Steaua's anti-racist initiatives and making a public appeal to fans from both sides on the eve of the UEFA Cup derby in Bucharest. Middlesbrough next

By the way, here are your answers Paulo: Daniel Niculae is a good striker, one of the most promising talents in Romania atm. He's about 23 years old, complete type of striker I can say. About Marius, I don't know. He's a penalty box player, didn't perform so much at Sporting Lisbon and since he transferred to Belgium I didn't see him play. Not in the national team's plans for sure.

For the return leg I hope Olaroiu decides to put Oprita on the right win in place of Nicolita, he has played there before and he excelled. In attack I would pair Dica and Cristea and in midfield in place of Paraschiv either Lovin or Cristocea but to be honest I would go with Cristocea; his performances in the league have been impressive.

Oprita really surprised me with his performance last night, best game he's ever had IMO. I like your line-up, Lovin is more defensive than Cristocea, so Cristocea is the right choice for the beginning of the match.

I don't really remember much about Steaua up to about when I was 8 or so, before then it's just a blurr of lots of CL matches which we mostly lost and winning championship after championship but I couldn't tell you the players.

He is a very solid offensive coach and I hope we'll see him at Steaua again someday. Just look back in the beggining of this thread and check out some of the score lines we had with him as manager. Now only the remnants of his offensive schemes are seen on the pitch when Steaua plays. The slow, boring style of Olaroiu is quickly stamping itself allover the players.

We will play our strongest side against Sportul this weeked. Olaroiu has not lost a single match when that 11 has started. Even when Protasov was our manager in the first half of the season we did not lose a single game when we started that 11. Let's hope that streak will continue!

Ogararu is officialy gone :(. He will play in the last two games which is good news because we definitely need him. He has been great for us on that right flank for a couple of seasons now and he's definitely gonna be missed. We're gonna need to go shopping for a RB in the off season because I don't think Balan is a good enough option and don't even get me started on Petre Marin on the right :nape:

I followed Steaua closely (well I have to since my gf is Romanian AND from Bucuresti ;) but I like the way they play football and im delighted that George Ogararu will play for my club in august, he's a great player from what I heard and I believe he will do well.

Once again proving that we're the best team in Romania. The Champions League is waiting for us and the Dinamo/Rapid fans will once again be watching us making a name ourselves in Europe, on the TV, best feeling in the whole world. Goodbye and respect to Ogararu, glad he's joining a top club and not some team from a talent-sucking footballing country like x (add one of Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Cyprus, China, Bulgaria or Turkey).

Jucătorii au sărbătorit pe teren, imediat după terminarea meciului, alături de suporteri, iar în vestiar au făcut baie cu şampanie

Sărbătoarea Stelei de ieri, de la Vaslui a început în momentul în care crainicul a anunţat că meciul Jiul - Rapid s-a terminat înainte de final. Toată banca de rezerve a roş-albaştrilo a aşteptat fluierul de final în picioare, în timp ce fiecare jucător schimbat de Oli mergea în mijlocul galeriei.
În momentul în care arbitrul a pus capăt întîlnirii, Olăroiu a bătut aerul cu pumnii şi a urlat de fericire, aflîndu-se la primul titlu din carieră. "Esteeee!", a strigat Oli, în timp ce pe teren au intrat 200 de fani ai campioanei. Jucătorii au zbughit-o către vestiare. Nu înainte de a scoate un banner pe care scria "Campioni 23".

Ajunşi aici, s-a dat frîu liber bucuriei. "Campionii, campionii, ole, ole, ole", au început să scandeze steliştii. Au fost aduse peste 20 de sticle de şampanie, pe care şi le-au turnat pe cap. Au urmat tricourile special făcute de Steaua. Galbene, cu cifra 23 pe piept, care indică numărul de titluri cucerite de trupa din Ghencea. Fiecare l-a îmbrăcat, după care s-a continuat cu scandările. Olăroiu şi-a dat şi el liber sentimentelor. A fumat ţigară după ţigară, s-a fotografiat, le-a dat autografe copiilor, era tot numai un zîmbet. "Doamne, cît mi-am dorit acest titlu", le-a zis jucător în vestiar, care l-au luat şi l-au aruncat în aer de 3 ori.

La ieşirea din cabine, în drumul lor spre autocar, steliştii au dat nas în nas cu Porumboiu. Acesta le întindea mîna, dădea noroc cu fiecare, însă stătea cu capul în pămînt. Pînă la autocar, Ghionea, Goian, Ogăraru şi ceilalţi n-au uitat să ironizeze Rapidul, să-l amintească şi pe Oleg Protasov ca artizan al acestei victorii şi să anunţe noua ţintă a echipei: grupele Ligii Campionilor.

NEŞU SPRE UCRAINA

După plecarea lui Ogăraru la Ajax, pentru 4 milioane de dolari, Steaua este foarte aproape de a-l vinde şi pe fundaşul din cealaltă bandă a terenului. Mihăiţă Neşu este dorit în curtea lui Dnepr Dnepropetrovsk, echipă antrenată începînd din decembrie 2005 de Oleg Protasov, fostul tehnician al Stelei.

Agenţii de jucători cu care Protasov lucrează l-au informat pe Neşu că echipa ucraineană e gata să ofere 1,5 milioane de euro în schimbul său. Mai mult, stelistul a primit asigurări că va avea un salariu anual de 300.000 de euro, adică de 5 ori ami mult decît are la Steaua. "Neşu va pleca la Dnepr atunci cînd această echipă va face o ofertă concretă. Deocamdată, n-a făcut aşa ceva. Chiar acum cîteva minute am vorbit cu Protasov şi mi-a spus că nu-l vrea pe Neşu", a declarat ieri Mihai Stoica. Totuşi, înaintea meciului de la Vaslui, unul dintre conducătorii Stelei a susţinut că "foarte probabil îl vom vinde pe Neşu în această vară".

Tehnicianul ucrainean este la a treia tentativă de a aduce la Dnepr un fost elev de-al său din Ghencea. Mai întîi a făcut o ofertă de 5 milioane de euro pentru Rădoi, respinsă de Steaua. Apoi, chiar a bătut palma cu Florentin Dumitru, însă transferul a picat din cauza problemelor medicale de la genunchi ale mijlocaşului. După meci, Gigi Becali i-a reproşat pe un ton violent această idee tactică şi chiar a fost la un pas să-l demită pe ucrainean. După 5 luni de la acel episod, adică în momentul în care a părăsit Ghencea, Protasov a explicat: "Toată lumea m-a înjurat că l-am folosit pe Neşu mijlocaş cu Rosenborg. Să vedem ce o să mai zică lumea atunci cînd acest fotbalist va ajunge unul dintre cei mai buni mijlocaşi stînga din Europa".


Nu e în graţiile lui Oli
Unul dintre motivele pentru care Neşu va fi lăsat să plece în această vară este şi acela că nu este pe placul lui Cosmin Olăroiu. Deşi în prima parte a sezonului Neşu a jucat ca titular în 23 de meciuri din 25 posibile, Olăroiu l-a scos din primul 11 imediat după ce a preluat echipa. Astfel, în primăvară, în Cupa UEFA, Neşu n-a mai jucat ca titular decît dubla cu Heerenveen şi turul cu Betis, după care a fost folosit numai Petre Marin. Şi în campionat, el a evoluat doar în 6 din 15 etape.

I like however how already there are three players that have signed for clubs in strong championships. Ogararu to Ajax, Radoi to Tottenham and Niculae to Auxerre. This can only be good for the development of the Romanian NT as they get ready to enter EURO 2008 Qualifying.

He said in a recent interview for a Romanian newspaper that if indeed Ajax and Steaua were to play eachother he would give it his all to beat Steaua even though his heart will always be there. He said that he needs to help the team he now plays for not the team he supports :D

I hope he ends up being your starting RB and shows what a quality player he is.

One thing is for sure, with Ajax he plays against real big teams in Europe so he can show how good he is there. The selection is big but I think he will replace Trabelsi.

We need a good (starter) right-back, Balan really needs some more playing time if Olaroiu sees him as a starter. As for the left-back spot, I really don't know. Petre Marin needs no presentation, the only fact that worries me about him is his age, so he'll probably be rotated with Nesu. On the other hand, Nesu is pretty good, and has a lot of potential, though he's a bit shaky in bigger matches or when directly opposing a better player (Joaquin).

Well we did buy that Israelian guy from Maccabi Tel Aviv, Saban, so I think he's gonna be our new starting RB and now there's rumours that we could get Espinoza who started all 4 matches for Ecuador at the WC.

And as for the friendlies, it seems that Steaua will go to another tournament, this time in Mierlo (Holland). Haven't heard anything of the teams that will participate, but hopefully it will help us more than the previous tourney.

I think he is a good acquisition and I hope he will get used to the atmosphere in the team ... cause Steaua is like a big family.
It is said that he is a better defender than Ogararu but he hasn't got the same technique. Well, we'll have do see how good this defender really is.
Hope he will help Steaua to qualify to CL Groups.

I doubt we'll play any strong teams, we never play strong teams in pre-season friendlys so I dont expect anything different this time.
