The European Championship's has only 16 teams, even though there are around 40 teams in UEFA. I'd say though that they should change it to have 32 teams. Look at all the good or at least decent sides that were missing the last team: Ireland, Turkey, Belgium, Poland, Austria, Ukraine, Scotland, Norway, Finland, Serbia, Slovenia, Slovakia, etc.

Also, I don't think that Azerbaijn, Isreal, and other teams which are really in Asian should be in Uefa. They should be in the Asian federation AFC. It'd benefit them anyways since they'd have a better chance to qualify for the world cup.

The quality of the EC is just fine the way it is now. No other international tournament is as balanced as the Euro. The Euro qualfyiers are also very entertaining with many surprising results.

No one wants those teams except for the Uefa. (C)

Even I who have endured seeing Romania miss the last two major tournaments and possibly a third in a row think that is a stupid idea.

Does anyone know exactly how the new format for qualifying for EURO2008 will go? I know that there will be less groups but each group will have more teams and I'm also pretty sure that the group winners will qualify automatically while teams that finish 2nd and 3rd will play a home and away playoff after a draw has been held deciding who plays who.

Nah, decent teams always miss out of tournaments. It's just something you have to live with.

16 teams is just right. More teams, more confusion.

More teams, more one sided results.

Well Turkey who finished 3rd in the WC probably deserved to be more in it then Bulgaria or Latvia. The qualifying thing isn't completeley fair.

Not that I'm some sort of a Ultra-super-mega-fanatic supporter of Latvia, but Turkey did NOT deserve to be in the Euro more then Latvia, I don't give a rats ass how well they did in Japan/Korea. We beat them 1-0 and they could'nt even hold onto a 2-0 lead. Also Bulgarians were brilliant in their qualifying group and that is all there is to get into the finals...deservedly.

16 is gr8. The euro the way it is, i believe is even harder than the world cup, coz there in the group rounds crap teams from outsite europe loose easilly from the big NTs. The euro is a lot closer quality wise in the group stage. Maybe there aint no brazil or argentina to watch in the 2nd round and after, but certainly from my point of view the closer compation in the group stage makes it little harder. WC is still better tho, just.. less hard overral (imo always)

yeah, less teams means better quality overall... you don't have the punching bags (or at least shouldn't) and every game is top quality..
