Its about the commercialisation of the game, stupid kick-off times, all-seater stadiums, not being to stand, lack of atmosphear due to vocal supporters being scattered around the ground so the club can accodomate the corporates in what used to be the Stretford End, overpriced tickets and greed at the top levels of football. The takeover was just the last straw that broke the camels back.

Many of the supporters attending at FC United had been going to Old Trafford for decades, but they've decided they've had enough of being ripped off, many had already been priced out of the game years ago by corporate greed. Manchester United no longer wants its local support, they would rather have Asian tourists who will go into the Megawhore and come up carrying bags of crap. There will be more clubs being run by fans/supporters trusts in the future and that can only be a good thing for football.

I see your point, and i agree with you, but do you still care about Manchester United? I mean, you're still watching them, supporting them?

I'll always love Manchester United, that will never change, you don't just turn it off like that. I'll watch the lads in the pub, on the tele or by online streams but there is no way I will ever contribute one penny to paying off that debt. By definition, I'd be classed as a 'fan' and not a 'supporter'. FC United of Manchester has my support. If people don't like that, then I couldn't give two ****s about it, if they want to pay for someone else's takeover then thats up to them, I don't care.

There's nothing wrong with trying to increase the profile of lower division teams.

Personally, I don't see how FC United can be doing anything but good. If it can help improve attendaces and boost money and interest in lower divisions then that's got to be good, hasn't it?

Barrie George is amazing for his age (born 1986) and he plays for the partially-sighted England national team (he isn't partially-sighted, but they don't have to select a partially-sighted goalkeeper), the lads only a few months older than me.

There will be a 30 minute documentary on FC United of Manchester at 7:30pm, Monday, BBC1 North-West (948 for those of you on Sky Digital).

Just wanted to flag up our half-hour special on Monday night on Inside
Out at 7.30pm on BBC 1 in the North West. It's also being shown on digital
channel 101 in the North West and BBC Digital channel 948 nationally.

You know it's based around the formation of FC United.

As well as interviews with Ryan Giggs, Lee Sharpe, Sammy McIlroy and
Peter Hook from New Order, it includes exclusive behind the scenes
access with the players, manager and fans. There's some great stuff.
Including Joz Mitten, the centre forward, who is a plumber, and his
pre-match routine can involve being up at 08.30am on Saturdays fixing
leaky toilets, and Karl, the manager who is up at 3am every day working
as a delivery driver.

We have followed fans who have switched with heavy hearts from Man
United to FC United and those who have stayed at Old Trafford. We got
exclusive access to the first game at Leek, which had to be delayed for
15 minutes to get all 2,500 fans in. There's a classic moment when the
harrassed, middle-aged secretary of Leek predicts a catering crisis by
saying, 'We only normally order 24 pies , we've ordered 650 and it won't
be enough!'

We have contrasted FC United's start to the season with that of Man
United. We also have contributions from the award-winning sports writer
and author David Conn, and Henry Winter from the Daily Telgraph.

The film addresses the feeling in football that the commercialism,
six-figure salaries, and TV rights have taken the soul out of the game.

Nice to see that FCUM has been promoted in 3 successive seasons, from the 10th league of england to the 7th. They're now in the Northern Premier League Premier Division, that is 6 leagues below the EPL... Hope to see them play in the top flight someday although I must admit that its gonna be tough and will take a long time.

Anyway there was a historical match between FC United of Manchester and Bucheon FC 1995(Korea) was held in Korea yesterday.
This friendly match is an event of an enterprise(SK group)
I hope to see both team in top league as soon as possible. Oh! Korea doesn't have a relegation/promotion system. Ouch! I don't know why we don't do promotion/relegation system.

But referee ruined this match :( Ahh.....

After an exhausting flight half way around the world, the FC United team, officials and fans finally landed in South Korea at about 7am (11pm UK time) and, after a brief rest and brush up, some were whisked off to a press conference to launch the trip officially.

On the table were Andy Walsh (General Manager), Team Manager Karl Marginson and players Sam Ashton and Jerome Wright as well as players and officials from Bucheon FC. Some pictures from the event can be viewed here.

We will try to keep this piece up to date with the latest happenings as they, er..., happen.

After Saturday’s success for the ‘All stars’ team in Leek, FC United begin their pre-season campaign for real in a very different location as they take on Korean side; Bucheon 1995.

Margy has named a strong squad with a good mixture of freshness, youth and experience as United make the trip east for Saturday’s game.

One of those names in the squad is Ben Deegan who signed over the summer from Ashton United and managed to bag himself a second half hat-trick on his debut against Leek as he looks to fill the void left by Kyle Wilson; who was snapped up by Macclesfield Town at the end of last season.

Saturday’s match is a great opportunity to take FC United around the world and face another club who were formed in similar circumstances to our own formation.

Bucheon 1995 were officially formed on 1 December 2007 but the wheels had been set in motion almost two years before this as fans looked to take a stand against their top flight club, Bucheon SK, being moved 300 miles south to the island of Jeju-do to occupy the last vacant 2002 World Cup stadium.

Bucheon fans couldn’t believe their club was being uprooted and so decided to form their own club and the idea that eventually became Bucheon 1995 was put into motion.

Initial sights were set on joining the Korean National League for the 2007 season but strict financial regulations of the league meant that this had to be re-assessed and the club opted to work towards joining the K3 league for the 2008 season.

The club received financial sponsorships and indeed got enough backing to be formed for the 2008 season and in October 2007 it was officially announced that the team would be known as Bucheon 1995.

Saturday’s game has been labelled as the “World Football Dream Match” by our hosts and they hope to have around 20,000 fans inside the stadium on to see the two clubs play.

Notable names on the Bucheon squad list include Park Ji-Sung (not that one) and Kaka (who actually comes from Congo and not Brazil). Joking aside though, the game should be a great footballing occasion and those lucky enough to be out there will sample a great atmosphere of two football clubs with values and principles.

This is usually the point where we encourage you to get down to that football ground but obviously if you’re not already there or planning to go, Korea is a bit far to go on the spur of the moment.

Supporters can listen to the match on FCUM Radio from 10am on Saturday via the website as United look to get into their stride before the big kick off against Boston on 15 August.



FC United leaked two late goals to go down 3-0 to Bucheon FC 1995 in South Korea on Saturday – a score line which didn’t reflect a decent performance against an experienced side.

The Koreans broke the deadlock just before the half hour mark in what had been billed as World Football Dream Match 2009. Captain Park Mun-Ki was able to score a free header due to some lax marking at a corner.

United pressed for an equaliser for the rest of the game but they failed to test out goalkeeper Park Jung-Tae, mainly due to coming up against a hard working and well organised Bucheon rearguard.

Manager Karl Marginson made five changes in the second half to give every member of the squad the experience of playing in Korea and although his team toiled they couldn’t find a way through.

The hosts doubled their lead two minutes from time through a Kim Min-Woo tap-in after an unfortunate fumble by substitute ‘keeper Grant Shenton from Jang Jae-Wan’s free-kick.

And Bucheon scored a somewhat flattering third two minutes into stoppage time with the goal of the game through Jae-Wan. The left winger capped a great performance with a fantastic solo run and finish.

The three goal margin will have been hard to stomach for the men from Manchester as they certainly hadn’t played badly. United’s best football came in the first half and the first real chance of the match came their way through Carlos Roca in the 21st minute.

Jerome Wright won a corner on the left wing after being harried by two Bucheon defenders. Wright whipped the ball in and it evaded the heads of several players before falling for Roca on the far side of the box. Roca faked to shoot with his right foot and instead cut inside before unleashing a curling shot with his left. Jung-Tae looked beaten but the ball flashed agonisingly wide of the left hand post.

Less than five minutes later, Carl Lomax threaded a ball through to Ben Deegan down the right. FC United’s new striker had escaped the attentions of the defence so Jung-Tae had to rush out of his goal to close him down. Deegan tried a chip but it sailed over the bar.

Bucheon then took the lead on 29 minutes. United will be disappointed with the manner in which it was conceded and also that it was the Korean’s first real threat on goal other than a couple of soft free-kicks from the edge of the box.

Darren Lyons was introduced for right back Danny Stott at the break and the veteran player-coach nearly had an immediate impact on the game. The former Bury winger lofted a perfectly weighted corner in for Deegan but somehow the striker glanced his unchallenged header wide.

United were restricted to half-chances throughout the second half and it was the hosts who started to look more threatening with Jeong Hyun-Min and Jae-Wan using their electric pace to forage down the flanks. In fairness, although Adam Tong and Nick Swirad were being stretched, the centre-backs were dealing with the attacks reasonably well.

With eight minutes to go Min-Woo clearly dived to win a free-kick on the edge of the box, an incident which Swirad took issue with. Lee Bum-Joon hit a dangerous free-kick goalwards but Ashton saved well.

It was to be the keeper and matchday captain’s last action of the game as Sheldon was introduced. The former youth team shot stopper started off well as he plucked a dangerous cross by Kaka out of the air at the back-post but two minutes later he had a moment to forget.

Min-Woo went down easily again on the edge of the box after a challenge by Tong and Jae-Wan curled in a low free-kick round the wall to the left post. Sheldon was there to gather the ball but it escaped his grasp and Min-Woo managed to stay on his feet on this occasion to slot the rebound into a gaping net.

And unfortunately it got worse for United. With two minutes of the allocated four gone in stoppage time, Jae-Wan ran at the United defence beating Shaun Williams and although substitute Ryan Lyons managed to force him out wide, the winger had too much pace for the youngster and slotted the ball through Sheldon’s legs on the edge of the box.

It was a disappointing result but surely not something that will overshadow a great experience for all the players, staff and supporters that were lucky enough to be in Korea.

FCUM is now in the 7th tier. Started off in the 10th. This season they reached the play-off finals but got beaten :nape: Its the 3rd season in the 7th tier now. They got promoted each each year during their first 3 years. Hopefully they'll get promoted this time. They got very close.

Yes they started badly. At mid-season they were around 14th but then managed to climb up to 4th. Thats the beauty of smaller English Leagues. So unpredictable!

That's the beauty of smaller leagues in general. Less predictable, more action, better supporters and so much to fight for. That's why I always love when smaller teams go far in the FA Cup like Crawley did last season. It's always great to see the reaction from the dedicated fans. Respect.

Anyways, I really hope the club can work their way up. It's awesome to see those kinds of things happen and I can only wish the best for them.
