He is fantastic!, if only he can play Luxumberg everyday! I think a change of scenery might do him good, I think if England put him on the bench they might be better off, but probably not.

I think we will see him continue to be one of the top scorers in the Premiership for a few more years. Do we so soon forget that the man has more goals (18 according to Soccernet) this year than anyone in the UK except Wigan's Barlow (20)?

I think he's been experiencing a bit of fixture overload recently, though he'd never admit that... England's Euro 2000 campaign, the UEFA Cup, the battle against relegation, etc. Let's also not forget that Newcastle has been absolutely riddled with injuries. Dyer, Ferguson, Ketsbaia, are all just now returning to the picture.

If Ferguson can maintain his health, they will form quite a threat. Once Duncan entered the Roma match today, the Roma defense looked scared at trying to keep track of Ferguson and Shearer at once.

He's Way too old to be playing football if u ask me. Did u see the way he played against Roma. He should have had the 1st goal when Roma's goalkeeper gave a floppy throw. He took a long time just to get to the ball.

You can argue that he doesn't have the dominating quickness he had (before his injuries) in his Blackburn days, but to argue he's too old is absurd. If Newcastle were to put him up for sale right now, the bidders would line up with record-breaking bids.

He's a very gifted player, but has not got a good understanding with Michael Owen when they play for England.
And if he wants to win some silver ware before his playing days are over, I do feel he's going to have to leave Newcastle.
I don't think however, which some so many young potential forwards Keegan can choose from, that Alan Shearer will be either not in the starting 11, or not in the squad for the WC 2002. Afterall, Shearer will be about 32 by then.

Yep, shearer can still strike as good as any, but he's not the player he was. He's just not creating enough for others, and when playing for England it's as if he just seems to be non-existent.
I think that Englands problems begin and end with Shearer. He shouldn't be captain, Adams should, Adams is a natural leader, he's absolutely inspirational at the back. To me a captain shouldn't be a forward, it takes their focus off their main task. Shearer shouldn't even be in the starting XI, even if he's form does get a lot better for Newcastle he's not played well for England for quite some while.
Up front for England should be Phillips and either Owen or Cole.

Are you people MAD? Shearer is Britain't top striker, and he has been for 7 years now. What's all this "sack him from England" stuff? (terrible English, mind) He's the top scorer in England at the minute, and with Shearer and Ferguson as England's top-scoring partnership, Newcastle United have the ability to terrorise defences.

Did it ever hit you that he retired from international footy??? He announced it before Euro 2000!
