Fans attack keeper after Fenerbahce defeat
ISTANBUL, Dec 15 (Reuters) - Angry fans punched and kicked Turkey's national goalkeeper Rustu
Recber after Fenerbahce were knocked out of the Turkish Cup by second division Pendikspor.
Pendikspor beat the wealthy Istanbul side 2-1 to the fury of a group of fans who besieged
Fenerbahce's ground for hours, threatening players inside.
Captain Recber received the worst of the treatment late on Tuesday. Fans opened the doors of his
car as it pulled out of the complex and kicked and punched the 'keeper as a club official in the
passenger seat tried to protect him.
Police arrived soon afterwards and the fans dispersed. Newspapers said Recber was slightly injured
and shaken by the attack.
The Turkish Cup result made front page headlines and came after a poor run of domestic league
form for Fenerbahce. It greatly increases the pressure on Czech coach Zdenek Zeman.
Fenerbahce are fourth in the Turkish first division, six points off the pace set by Istanbul rivals
Galatasaray.
