View Full Version : Lisbon Derby: Sporting x Benfica [P+R]
Punkt 07-09-2005, 05:47:PM first big match of the Betadine league :p (next saturday 9.30pm GMT)
Sporting has 6 points in 2 games. they lost Rochemback to Boro but signed Wender and the promising João Alves both from Braga.
Benfica had a terrible league start with 1 draw and 1 home defeat. Karagounis and Miccoli will debut with the red shirt.

sorry but that's not gonna happen :ewan:
PSVFOREVER 07-09-2005, 06:10:PM You do know it's Koeman, dont you? He isnt that good.
Punkt 07-09-2005, 06:11:PM it's enough to beat Sporting.
and he already won a dutch league against PSV. so he isn't that bad.
Vinnie Jones 07-09-2005, 06:13:PM Rofl can´t argue with the experience. Psv is being extremely emphatic.
Punkt 07-09-2005, 06:16:PM PSV is being extremely biased...

:)
Nakamura 07-09-2005, 07:13:PM Petit won't face Sporting. He had his first training session in 2 weeks this morning, but after only 20 minutes, his injury bothered him again.
So, I'm guessing Beto will take his place in the starting eleven.
Vagegast 07-09-2005, 08:39:PM PSV is being extremely biased...I'm afraid he's right.
10Ruud 07-09-2005, 09:21:PM 0-0 draw
Parasol 07-09-2005, 09:42:PM 0-0 draw
not possible. Sporting will miss key defenders and Benfica has some fast attackers. Sporting will play more offensively allowing counter attacks for Benfica, so is expected some goals for both teams.
MaSsiVe 08-09-2005, 12:49:AM draw written all over it, I say 1-1 (Liedson, Geovanni again(6))

Right..
Vinnie Jones 09-09-2005, 04:35:PM Essa conversa de coitadinho do Peseiro já enjoa, only shows that he isn´t man enough for the job.

Goo Goo boy 10-09-2005, 04:39:AM Erm, "a bola" is saying Benfica will play like this:

Anderson-Luisão-Rocha
J. Pereira-M. Fernandes-Karagounis-Nélson
Carlitos-Miccoli-Simão

Miccoli as a striker? Carlitos?

Anderson-Luisão-Rocha
J. Pereira-M. Fernandes-Karagounis-Nélson
Carlitos-Miccoli-Simão

I hope so, Carlitos and João Pereira are 2 of the worst players in the Liga!
Punkt 10-09-2005, 10:09:AM worst players in the liga? não exageras nem nada...
they could be the worst in the big 3 (Paito, Tello, Pinilla, Silva aren't much better) but worst in the Liga?! more than 50% of Liga teams would love to have Carlitos and JP in their squads...
Tiago_10 10-09-2005, 10:14:AM João Pereira isn't that bad. Just because he sucked in one match doesn't mean he's a bad player. Carlitos ?? Yes, he's really bad.
But I rather see Léo and Nélson, I guess.
And wtf is this ? 3-4-3 ? For our league, with our players with their mentality ?
There he goes making inventions again.. This is not looking good.. I'm starting to believe those dutch fans are right about Koeman.. Hope I'm wrong :(
ADC1987 10-09-2005, 10:15:AM I think it will be a polemic match, like every year :)
I hope for a draw (and a victory of Porto vs Rio Ave)
I predict a 3:3! A crazy Result, one penalty for both.
2 x Simao
1 x Miccoli
1 x Sá Pinto
1 x Moutinho
1 x Liedson
Porto would have 2 Points to Sporting and 7 to Benfica :rockman:
POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORTOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :rockman:
SCP19O6 10-09-2005, 10:20:AM OK, I may exagerated a bit, but in comparasion to what a player should worth to be playing in a team like Benfica, they are really bad.
Tiago, João Pereira is a spoiled brat, that's what I think of him!
And yes, Sporting has bad players also, and Porto too, btw.
Tiago_10 10-09-2005, 10:29:AM ^ Your right about Carlitos. Don't know what a player like him is doing in Benfica. He's had many chances and failed.. This doesn't necessarly mean he can't play reasonably today, if he does start. I just don't find it likely, and don't think it's a good a option to start him.
Vinnie Jones 10-09-2005, 11:01:AM Geovanni isn´t starting against Sporting? Didn´t Koeman do his homework/research? He always plays great against Sporting. I can´t believe i see Benfica fans defending João Pereira, he is crap and his constant antics are even worst.
Tiago_10 10-09-2005, 11:16:AM Nelo Vingada would be greatful if he'd ever go to Académica.
Now, you can like his attitudes or not, and I too think he's a brat. However, he isn't that bad of a player like SCP1906 said.
Nakamura 10-09-2005, 11:20:AM João Pereira isn't crap... He IS a spoiled brat and an idiot, but he's a nice player. He was much better than Alex, for instance, in the pre-season and people say Alex is good. I don't know why people always mix up the aspect of JP attitude and behaviour with his footballing skills. Granted, he's not a a very good player and he never will be, but he's also not as bad as most people make him. Yes, he sometimes has awful games (like the one against Académica) but I've also seen several games where JP was quite good indeed, defending well, showing a lot of determination, making good runs and crosses, assists and even scoring.
As for Carlitos, if you ever saw his games for Estoril in the 2003/2004 season and also on the U-21 squad, he was simply amazing! I had very high hopes for him when he cam to us (and Porto even tried to sign him). But he seems to be yet another example of a technically very gifted player that is very weak mentally and that can't adapt and handle the pressure of playing for a big club... Deep down I still have hope he can change that and start using his head, but honestly I can't see it happening.
Vinnie Jones 10-09-2005, 11:39:AM You can´t take another person´s opinion Tiago? I think he is crap and isn´t worthy of playing in Benfica. About Académica needing João Pereira, i don´t have any complains towards Nuno Luis ( you prolly don´t even know who he is). He is a humble, experienced player, who hardly does any mistake. He prolly earns 1/3 of what João Pereira earns and yet contributes much more to a team than João Pereira could ever do. Since our defence in one of best assets, what isn´t broke shouldn´t be fixed, so i would prefer to leave it like this. I would prefer to have Vasco Faísca back from the Belenenses bench and adapted as RB than having João Pereira. His performance against Académica was terrible and his antics disgraceful. But each to his own, i can´t be bothered wasting my time with you, you won´t change my opinion and i won´t change yours. Your arrogance closely matches the kind of atitude that João Pereira displayed in the Calhabé (Municipal de Coimbra for the ones who are young).
Tiago_10 10-09-2005, 11:58:AM What ? I didn't mean to change anybody's opinion, just stating my views about his football skills that have nothing to do with his attitudes, otherwise players like Roy Keane for instance would be just utter crap. I have my opinion and you have yours and that's how it should be. Just don't think it's fair to trash talk him like that, saying he's one of the worst players in the liga, when clearly in our league there are players way worse than him.
Also didn't mean to be arrogant. I like Académica and in my opinion he would have a place there. If you don't agree that's fine.
Nakamura 10-09-2005, 12:02:PM You can´t take another person´s opinion Tiago? I think he is crap and isn´t worthy of playing in Benfica. Wow, Vinnie! Sorry to butt in, but I'm surprised to see your reaction, given that I didn't see anything offensive or arrogant on Tiago's answer. I merely saw him contesting what you said... I don't intend to be here defending anyone or playing the advocate, it's just that i'm really surprised at your reaction.
Of course each person has the right to have its own opinion, but in the same way you said "I can't believe that there are Benfiquistas defending him", we can argue that we don't think he is as bad as you are making him. For Go'ds sake, he's even an international player at all the youth levels! And by defending him as a player, we aren't defending his attitudes or beahviours, I think that's obvious.
Virgo 10-09-2005, 12:10:PM I hate Joao Pereira. One of those persons that make me want to get in the TV and slap him. The kid is a major arsehole and a mediocre player.
Vinnie Jones 10-09-2005, 12:15:PM Well i didn´t say that he was one of the worst players in the Superliga, i said that he was crap (it may be harsh but i don´t really think that he is that good) and that he doesn´t have the caliber to play in a team like Benfica. Every team has his fair share of crap players, João Pereira isn´t certainly one of the worst in the Superliga, certain names of cheap brazilian players come to my mind but he isn´t a good player in my opinion. I admit that his "tiques de vedeta" and arrogance may help some ppl form their opinions about him but i already saw him in the Tv and on the stadium and he didn´t impress me.
And your remark did sound like arrogance, i was prolly a little hasty but im used to hearing it all the time. Just because a player is in Benfica, Porto or Sporting, ppl instantly think that they have a place in the smaller teams. Fortunately the reality proves it wrong and the gap btw the so called "grandes" and the so called "pequenos" is smaller and i can honestly say that although the "3 grandes" without any doubt are better, that they also have weak spots and players who i definitely wouldn´t want in my team.
Im also used to the "oh i didn´t really mean that, i like <insert random smaller team name>", it´s extremely condescending in my opinion but hey maybe in your case it´s really heart felt.
Anyways this has nothing to do with the thread in question, so i´m going to stop here.
Virgo 10-09-2005, 12:32:PM Lineup projected by "O JOGO"

seems solid, although I dunno what to think of the 343.

it's not a 343 but an offensive 541 with simao and miccoli on the wings. at least that's what this lineup makes me think of.
Virgo 10-09-2005, 12:51:PM ... quite the difference between 541 and 343 eh? :D
And Simao and especially Miccoli aren't pure wingers so no way they're playing stuck to the wing. Add Nelson and Leo to that equation and you'd have 4 players stuck to the wings when attacking? Don't think so.
Parasol 10-09-2005, 02:36:PM no, Leo and Nelson helping on the wings when attacking. do anyone know what tickets are still available and their prices?
Tiago_10 10-09-2005, 03:05:PM "oh i didn´t really mean that, i like <insert random smaller team name>", it´s extremely condescending in my opinion but hey maybe in your case it´s really heart felt.
I just wanna make it clear I'm not cynical to make such comments. My grandpa's club was Académica and I sympatize (sp?) with the club, that's all.

Ok, now I'm convinced, Koeman has to go..
To start a crap player who should have been dismissed before the season even began over Nuno Gomes and Mantorras is insane. There's no logic for it at all, especially in a must-win game like this.
Virgo 10-09-2005, 10:01:PM Man I gotta buy a Carlitos jersey, he's so insanely crappy that he's almost good (H)

Virgo 10-09-2005, 10:21:PM R.Rocha sent off...direct red card... only in Portugal...
Vinnie Jones 10-09-2005, 10:31:PM I gotta agree with you Virgo. Although it was a harsh tackle, i think that a yellow card would have been enough. The game only had one yellow card yet and was being played in a pretty correct way by both teams. I don´t understand the criteria.

::shinji:: 10-09-2005, 11:06:PM I wonder what retarded formation experiment Koeman will come up with next week?
SCP19O6 10-09-2005, 11:06:PM 8
I have to say that Benfica gave us 45 minutes of advance, and that the sent off of Rocha was exagerated.
Overall, a fair result, and too much suffering at the end, with a good reaction from Benfica.
MotM: Tonel, not a single flaw from this guy!
Virgo 10-09-2005, 11:09:PM 1 point in 3 games... brilliant (H)
Vinnie Jones 10-09-2005, 11:10:PM What´s happening with Manuel Fernandes? He´s so out of form, kinda like Lampard.
Tiago_10 10-09-2005, 11:11:PM Man, that 4-5-1 or 3-4-3 was so uneccessary.. That red card was exagereated .. But that doesn't explain the defeat and Koeman does have a huge responsibility on this.
::shinji:: 10-09-2005, 11:11:PM CL here we come!!!!!!
Virgo 10-09-2005, 11:13:PM yes Manuel Fernandes is playing like sh*t, the guy wouldn't miss one pass last season... I've seen him miss 2 passes in a row today in 2 or 3 seconds.
Punkt 10-09-2005, 11:14:PM congratulations to Sporting.
in the first 45 minutes we pratically were a bunch of confusing players and Koeman is the guilty with extreme controversial players choices and tactics. we returned to "normality" in the second half and played well IMO. RR sent off was crucial and even with 10 men we had a good reaction and 2 good chances.
Koeman must stop the inventions at once. why Carlitos for god's sake? what he was expecting of a player that made ZERO on every game with our shirt? :kader:
BTW Liedson if it's true what he did to Rocha it's a shame. (N)
Vinnie Jones 10-09-2005, 11:16:PM Rofl im imagining if Liedson went to the premier league. He would be hated in Diouf´s proportions.
Parasol 10-09-2005, 11:17:PM 1 point in 3 games... brilliant (H)
31 games to play
93 points to win
as for RRocha, didn't you guys seen what liedson done to him when he first won the ball? he simply slapped Rocha in the face!! Rocha, as a warrior he is, kinda ignored that and kept playing to help his team, result: Rocha sent off, Liedson scoring the winner. Hope this time sumarissimos exist.
SCP19O6 10-09-2005, 11:18:PM This year 4 go down
Vinnie Jones 10-09-2005, 11:18:PM I don´t think that his slap was intencional but i did see him in provocative way saying Bye Bye to Ricardo Rocha, dispicable behaviour.

SCP19O6 10-09-2005, 11:49:PM Veiga called "papagaio" to SLB's Presidente do Conselho Fiscal :o
Virgo 10-09-2005, 11:56:PM huh?
Nakamura 11-09-2005, 12:25:AM Man, we are really trying hard to make even more history: as we already have the most number of 1st Division titles and cups in Portugal, we're now working to get relegated so we can win the 2nd Division championship... :D :(

[dfm] 11-09-2005, 03:25:AM Sporting deserved the victory, maybe with a bigger goal difference, anyway Benfica can only complain of his coach and his decisions... RR sent off might be a little bit exagerated but in the rules that kind of tackles are supposed to be a red card, the problem is the refs not always follow the same criteria...
BTW, 8 pontos! (6)

Anyway, I just came here to say (again) how good Liedson is. That header was simply AMAZING. How many players can do that, uh? He could very well beat Jardel's goal record if only he got the same amount of penalty kicks.
