Inter and Rangers going well uefa.com

After securing victories in their opening group games, FC Internazionale Milano and Rangers FC hope to continue their positive start to Group H. Inter overcame a tricky journey to FC Artmedia Bratislava to score the only goal of the game in Slovakia, while Rangers needed a late winner to beat FC Porto, the 2004 champions. The Scottish champions now face a difficult game at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Last meeting: It is 21 years since the clubs met in UEFA club competition. In the 1984/85 UEFA Cup second round, Inter took a three-goal advantage after their first leg at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium thanks to goals from Antonio Sabato, substitute Franco Causio and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

In the return match at Ibrox, David Mitchell scored after five minutes but Alessandro Altobelli equalised ten minutes later. Rangers recovered well, with Iain Ferguson scoring twice to give Inter the tie by 4-3 on aggregate after several uncomfortable moments.

First meeting: That tie had mirrored the first, and other, encounter between the clubs in the 1964/65 European Champion Clubs' Cup quarter-finals. Inter won the first leg at home 3-1 after gaining a 3-0 lead within 51 minutes with goals from Joaquín Peiró (2) and Luis Suárez.

However James Forrest's goal after 64 minutes gave Rangers a degree of hope, and when Forrest narrowed the margin even further after just six minutes of the return leg, there seemed time for more goals. But the Inter defence held firm, and the Italian side went on to beat SL Benfica in the final.

Inter against Scottish clubs: Inter have found every meeting with a Scottish club to be closely contested affairs. Rangers' rivals Celtic FC have also proved to be difficult opponents. Celtic became the first British club to win the Champion Clubs' Cup in 1967 with a 2-1 win over Inter in the final. And five years later, in the semi-finals of the 1971/72 competition, Inter were 5-4 winners on penalties against Celtic after the tie had finished goalless.

It's gonna be really weird with no crowd.

I'd normally give Rangers no chance in this one, probably 3-0 Inter, but with no crowd or atmosphere, it might be a strange game.

The TV stations will have to turn down the pitch-side microphones, otherwise we'll hear all the players shouting and swearing :f***:

I really dont know whats gonna happen, one week we tie Falkirk the next we beat Porto. If we come out of this with a point I'll be extremly happy. Just hope we dont get pumped or I'll never hear the end of it from my Italian friends :( .

It's on TLN for those of you in Toronto(probably other parts of Canada aswell) who want to watch it.

does TLN have that guy who sounds like he's talking on a cell phone while listening to the game on the radio?

Adriano should be played for 45 minutes only. He looks tired. We need him against Juventus next week. It'd be better if Recoba, Martins, and/or Julio Cruz get played in this match.

A 1-0 goal win should be enough to get another 3 points.

Id play:

:::::::::::::::::: Recoba :::::::::::: Cruz :::::::::::::::::::::::::::
::::::::: Solari ::::::::::: Pizarro :::::::::::: Ze Maria ::::::::::::::::
:::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Cambiasso :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
:: Wome :::::::: Samuel ::::::::: Mihaljovic ::::::::: Cordoba ::::::::
::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Toldo ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

being without a crowd, this game is gonna be boring.

1-0 Mihaljovic (if he plays)

Here's the team I'd like to see tomorrow...

-------------Recoba-------Martins

--Solari-----Cambiasso----Pizarro----Ze Maria

--Wome-----Samuel----Materazzi----Cordoba

-------------------J. Cesar

If that team starts, then I'd expect Martins to score atleast a goal with someone else scoring to win the match 2-0.

I think it'd be best to rest Adriano, Stankovic and Figo for this one. With Veron suspended Pizarro will take his spot. Hopefully he impresses.

Final score: Inter 1 - 0 Rangers

Strange game. Bizarre atmosphere with no crowd. Once Inter got their goal, they seemed mroe than happy to sit back and settle for 1-0. Rangers never really looked like getting the equaliser.

Best moment was when the car was on the pitch near the end.... "taxi for Solari".

Good grief, Solari should hang his head in shame after such a miss. Luckily Pizarro scored though and it didn't come back to haunt us. As much as the team has been playing well I really feel we blow way to many chances. The scoreline could have been atleast 3-0, but yet again we only manage to score 1. Hopefully our team goes back to it's high scoring ways fast or we might slip into another "draw-spree."
