So true, man. Some reviewers are so biased towards FIFA games. I hate it too when couple of my friends saying, "What now from FIFA 06 ? It's still crappy games from years to years." Suck, suck, suck, that's what I've got from my buddies.

Don't you realise most of these reviewers are former fifa fan boys? His critism about how the ball is like stuck to the players foot is so true and nobody could complain about that but that review is actualy pretty damn biased.

I could spend a good amount of time here bashing fifa but i could easily spend as much time praising it too. I would personally give it a 7 but fifa definately needs an overhaul next year. I don't enjoy scoring exactly the same goal over and over, maybe because i havn't played it long enough but i seem to score the same goals all the time and that ruins the attacking play.

Next year they need to work on the psychical (don't bash the spelling it's a bloody hard word to spell) side of things because currently, defending in this game is the most unrealistic representation in a modern game i have seen. There is no shoulder barging and holding the players off here and i think that itself would hold a totally new element to the game.

Now, just compare the overall "GAME" to PES... they still have those crappy menus and button clicking and moving sound (I remember that in my little nintendo from the 80's), the music on-screen is that generic keyboard :sb9: , the sound of the crowd couldn't be more generic and the master league is nothing but an attempt to have any worth career mode.

Gameplay is still king, but just gameplay doesn't make a game perfect, no matter how much you fanboys think so...

I love to play PES, but I hate it as a game... it's not a game in my point of view, it's a great simulation... there's no challenge beyond the 4 lines in my point of view... whereas in FIFA you have a much greater depth outside of the four lines, and it just feels like a game from the 21st century,

not an 80's game with good graphics and gameplay...

Fifa's gameplay may still suck compared to PES, but think of it, it is solid to an extent, so if the review was 5 out of 10 for gameplay, that would make a little more sense...

Why get upset about the review? Who cares? Ive played it and approved it for myself, I havent let anyones review influence me. I love it, and my review and yours is the only one that matters. Have you never seen a good review of something you thought was a pile of tosh? Reviewers are humans with different needs from life including gaming. Reviews are influenced by the reviewers needs and predjudices. I take all reviews with a pinch of salt.
Oh, and I bought my full game today. Looks like nearly every other person in the store was buying it. I was chatting to the shopman and he said people were waiting outside this morning for him to open the shop and sell it. Not the world PES fanboys want to live in. They want a world were there are no Fifa buyers.
In a few weeks people will be queing for PES5. This is choice, we all have choice so respect each others.

Reviews often have to be as short as 100-200 words. Do you really think magazines could fit everything in if they let every single review be 500 words or more? It's actually - and I speak from experience on one of the biggest magazines in the country, here - a lot harder to do a good review in under 200 words than it is when you're allowed over 500.

You may not agree with the review, and that's fair enough. But in terms of being a good, short review (and blame the magazine's editor for only allowing a short review of such a top-line game - an oversight there, I think) it actually communicates all the relevant information really well.

I also had read that review and really i didnt even take it serious...if you read well then you see that the guy might only have played one match and then stopped...He actually thinks the game is still the same cus in the previous years not much had changed. He gives me the idea that he 'suspects' nothing has changed in fifa06 but he doesnt know for sure so he just gave it a low rating! VERY unprofessional review. If you want a good review then just read that of Wolf...he gave a great review AND he doesnt get paid for it like that other guy who gave us a review of 50 words.

Three gripes about the game wich is seriously doing my box in

1. You can't do decent tackles anymore (without getting yellow/red)
2. The passing and through balls really really suck, when you getsome to make a run down the wing and you hold or press /\ the ball ends up going 7 inches in front of my player, so that the other team steals my damn ball.
3. The ball goes through the net.

Like I said at the first place, the point is, this is not about FIFA or PES, this is about discrimination of one game in which everything works fine; controls are fine, sound is great, graphics are fine, game play is fun; it has longetivity in a single and multiplayer mode, lot's of unlockables, and even some extra stuff, etc... It is really a good package. It has everything that you can whish from a computer game.

If we are going to be picky and "fair" we could give 50% to GTA San Andreas since the controls are not as good as they should, graphics is not top notch, there's a lot of bugs, jaggies etc..., sound is great, physics of cars and everything else is ridiculous, guns sound crappy, there are some very boring missions, no multiplayer, etc... and GTA SA becomes one of the GREATEST games of all times, praised like a God, and given 98%, 96% even 100%...

FIFA does suffer from few things but that's why it is FIFA (same as GTA SA suffers from few things), that's why it is a computer game and that's why it's not perfect and never will, and that's WHY it doesn't deserve 50%.

Graphics in PES/WE are much better than in FIFA.

even if it was like that, i would still prefer PES, cause i almost always play with friends in PS2 or online in PC and we wouldnt give a **** about all that, cause its all about gameplay...

playing online PES4, it lagged, so people put the resolution down to 640x480, no sounds, etc... and is still more enjoyable tham FIFA with everything top notch.

GTA is a game that have no other equal to compare to! Despite your opinion on that game (you say the controls arent good and so on) GTA has no competitors in its genre. FIFA has.

Everybody is entitled to their opinion. Reviews are means to guide you or give an idea of what a game would look like. If the guy rates it at 50 but you feel personally that the game is fun, then why bother ? He got his opinion, you got yours. Time to grow up and make your own decision, why does a review bothers you so much ? I don`t deny that I read reviews ( for games, movies, etc ), but I will definitely follow my decision no matter what the reviewer says.

If some dude just changed the names for instance instead of fifa 06 to Pes 5 then pes fans will all be talking about how great the new pes manager mode is and crowds menus etc. even though the gameplay wasnt as good but is pritty close they'll rate it a much higher game. I have to heavily disagree with those that actually stated that 150 words are enough for a review. Most serious reviews take nearly 500 words, sometimes more.

180 words in a composition/letter/review was the top limit I had when I was still learning English and was 12 years old. That limit went to 220 for low and 300 for high, once I got to the Proficiency level of English.

This, my friends, is not a serious review. He doesn't even state clearly what his points are, he doesn't prove them, and he goes around to bash the game in a review that a 13 year old kid could write.

But I'll take his points one by one.

Player animations? There, I disagree. I like the animations much better than any other game, because the players actually feel like they're running (I don't like PES' running animations at all, just imho.)

First Touch? It's still something that I miss every time I play PES4 or 5 with my friends. Just a single move of the stick, and you've went past the defender, or have lost the ball and are up for a nice counter-attack by the opponent. Either when the player's receiving the ball or when he's with the ball on his feet, you can pull quite good stuff with First Touch. I, for one, use it all the time.

Ball Physics? I agree, they're not good, and I miss some realistic ball physics from the FIFA series. But just the arguments he uses to comment on the physics, make HIM look more ridiculous than the physics themselves.

So, there are my 2 cents on yet another review or comment on FIFA.

I don't like PES, but i must say that FIfa 06 is the biggest piece of cr@p i have ever seen from ea sports. Nice bling bling game with many features, but the gameplay is impossible, it is not realistic. How can the computer win all the tackles? You can play with ronaldinho and still lose the ball to a 2nd league defender, what's going on with the referee? I get red for a tackle from behind, the computer yellow. This game is not playable, too bad because the feeling is great.

play with tempo, walk, make crossings, send payers on run...everything is there...

after being annoyed playing we9, i played the fifa 2006 demo and after hearing wolfs comments i agreed. i was all set for fifa untill the pes5 demo came out. but i was still looking foward to fifa , because i thought about the good season mode that lets u play the cups aswell, so finnaly its out and i get it im all excited,everything is good, but then i played the game :(. i just dont get it, i can see what they were trying but it just doesnt work, they have admited that they dont know how to make the game and they have tried to copy we's design but it just doesnt work. i remeber what ppl have said about playing it on world class and the game is more realistic, well thats a load of crap, the computer plays the exact way every time, no matter the team or the ai lvl (dance around in the middle- wide ball out wide, cross in,rinse and repeat) also what is with this game? is it me or do u find urself falling asleep in a middle of a game, its not that i dont a tight stuggle but in pes conserving a lead for 85mins is fun, in fifa it feels like ur running up hill with a boudler attached to you. i tried for 2hours and tried the next morning, eventually i just gave up and uninstalled and played the pes5 demo, 2mins in i was i home. maybe i have just gotten used to pes all these years but i have played every fifa since the original on the snes and i have played every we/iss/pes and since we4 which ea responded with 2000 i have never gone back. i only kept playing fifa cause i didnt have next gen console, but since konami finnaly answered the call. i never have to suffer fifa again. oh also any1 that thinks that fifas menu system is better, needs their head checked, it takes for god damned ever to choose 2 teams and get into a game in fifa, i guess its ok on console where u dont havae mouse but still

The faces aren't generic, there's sound on the crowd, more than one stadium, etc etc...
Graphics in PES/WE are much better than in FIFA.

I Didnt say people prefer to play tetris or pang instead of FIFA 2006....
I said that between two games were one has an overall better performance in stadiums, atmosphere, etc... and the other has much better gameplay, i certainly give more importance to the gameplay.

but EVEN if it were so extreme as you said:

even if it was like that, i would still prefer PES, cause i almost always play with friends in PS2 or online in PC and we wouldnt give a **** about all that, cause its all about gameplay...
Let me give you one example:
playing online PES4, it lagged, so people put the resolution down to 640x480, no sounds, etc... and is still more enjoyable tham FIFA with everything top notch.

things you talk about are good... for 5 minutes, or for 1 day or 2...
after that you skipp animations, etc etc...... ITS THE GAMEPLAY MAN

Ok, I agree with you now, except that I wouldn't choose to play PES alone, just because it's a boring Master League and it doesn't get me hooked. I do own both games every year, and I end up getting tired of playing one, then I go to the other, and so on... but I end up always doing my career mode on FIFa and not in the Master League, I don't know... I just do...

But I think PES gameplay is definetely better, nevertheless, I enjoy playing FIFA as career, but in PES just enjoying the ways I can score and pass and shoot and so forth... but I just hate playing it in the Master LEague, I almost always just play single matches against known teams... Besides, there are so little teams to choose from compared to FIFa that's just sad, and since I don't mod my console, I have to put up with the generic crap....

yah pes does have better gameplay but it has a season mode of the snes days, im surprised they didnt update it from pes4, pes5 is just a patch.

I'm a Pes fan cause i love the game!!!! I dont compare it to FIFA cause i played FIFA 2006 alot, i give it a chance, not played 5 minutes and said it was sh't!

i saw many reviews of fifa 2004, 2005... 80%, 85%... and to me thats ridiculous.... putting FIFA 5% or 10% behinf PES....

Sorry Mate, but this is going completely different direction.

I think your second last paragraph says it all, if they gave 80% or 85% to FIFA 2004, then giving 50% to FIFA 06 is ridiculous, that is, unacceptable. And that;s my point from the beginning, guys from C&VG UK obviously "judge the book by its cover".

I don't say that FIFA 06 is awesome, but is nevertheless best FIFA and is very enjoyable. It's good game and great package. It's great as PES companion and gives different type of football game, FIWC, excellent online play etc. If you like football games (like myself) and have been playing them since the first Atari Casette Soccer came out in 1984, then you know what I'm talking about. This isn;t about bashing out one game and praising another., bashing someone elses opinion etc...

And NO, I certainly do not have a problem with anyone's opinions and accepting them. I know for a fact (since I work for one of those magazines) that magazines, and review sites are there to offer public an open minded, fair and unbiased review, not personal opinions of reviewer. That's why there are scores for gameplay, graphics, sound, longetivity, etc... in order to remove those personal opinions and biasness of a reviewer. This is why I have a problem with abovementioned review.
