View Full Version : Collars out of style - why?
jumbo 07-10-2005, 01:55:AM What up.
Collared shirts were big during the 90's. Remember Cantona always wearing his up. Dwight Yorke. Any Man Utd fan will tella ya. And the Italians.
2000's - no more collared shirts. They're not on Nike kits, not on addidas;, not on kappas, etc. What happened?
untouchable 07-10-2005, 01:58:AM I dunno, I preferred collared shirts myself.
Callum 07-10-2005, 02:25:AM I agree, adds more class.
Rochester Rhino 07-10-2005, 02:58:AM umm, some of the adidas teams ahve collars, real madrid's home does
James007 07-10-2005, 03:19:AM one team is Celtic, when i think of them i think of collars... but no more.
the Adidas collars for this season isnt a proper collar. It cant even be put up ala Cantona.
If Im not mistaken, Ukraine's Lotto has a decent collar cos Sheva does it Cantona style.
Rochester Rhino 07-10-2005, 03:50:AM I didnt know there was a proper and unproper collar, what makes it unproper?
jumbo 07-10-2005, 03:58:AM the collar that is on real's kit doesn't fold. it's kinda short and doesn't fold which makes it not a proper collar :)
I dont know how to explain :$
but check these collars and see the difference

JFG_Lancer 07-10-2005, 04:36:AM I love collared jerseys. I wwn't buy a jersey if its not collared it sucks that Adidas didn't make better collars this year
newbie original 07-10-2005, 04:43:AM I think Arsenal has collared jerseys this season.
Internazionale 07-10-2005, 05:11:AM I personally don't mind if there's a collar or not. As long as the first time you see that jersey is attractive/stylish one from your eyes, that's all matters to me.
mannyb28 07-10-2005, 06:49:AM God I miss collars

PSVFOREVER 07-10-2005, 03:04:PM I prefer collars, although putting it up like Cantona is something only the rich people do, here in the Netherlands we call those people kakkers
Ebonix 07-10-2005, 03:08:PM According to teams there kits just follow fashion, its a matter of copying what everyone else has.

Just a few examples of big clubs/nations that wore collars, and now they dont. In englands case, they have changed to that tiny little collar.

One thing I've always thought about Bayern's shirt is that it looks a bit retro
jimorrizon 07-10-2005, 05:38:PM I personally don't like collars so i prefer the new style....
Juventino 07-10-2005, 05:48:PM I prefer collars too. I loved Juve's Kappa jerseys in the 90's... all collared. I hope we'll see the trend returning.
WilliamFAlmeida 07-10-2005, 06:01:PM I HATE COLLARS!
they are so unconfortable!
The only collar I ever liked was the ones on the Brasil away kit from 2002
Dan the monkey 08-10-2005, 04:36:PM I prefer collars, although putting it up like Cantona is something only the rich people do, here in the Netherlands we call those people kakkers
haha really? in England its all the working class chavs (poor) people that put their collars up.
Klobb 08-10-2005, 05:10:PM One thing I've always thought about Bayern's shirt is that it looks a bit retro
Yeh, thats the look they were going for.
Ebonix 08-10-2005, 05:16:PM Super! As for myself, I prefer collars. I've got a fairly large neck and theres never enough space in the shirts with no cut at the front

newbie original 14-10-2005, 02:19:AM I agree that style defnitely plays a huge role in the decision....clubs follow eachother too much...which is why this year' s Arsenal jersey looks really good. The maroon shade is brilliant and the collar just adds to it....retro or not!
Siawash 14-10-2005, 02:23:AM birminghamfan, the picture isn't working. (N)
TheBlueBalla 14-10-2005, 03:52:AM I prefer collars, although putting it up like Cantona is something only the rich people do, here in the Netherlands we call those people kakkers
We have names for those people here in America too (H) but now im gonna use kakkers cause nobody knows what it means
need I say more?
