The Whitecaps of the USL are getting a 15,000 seat waterfront stadium in Vancouver. That's good news for the sport in Canada. (Y)

With Toronto getting one for it's MLS team, and Montreal building one aswell.

Toronto aren't getting one for sure because this city's full of hicks that don't think soccer would be a worthwhile sport for the city :nape: read an article in the Toronto Star about it today (N)

they say it'll cost about $60M US to build it, and Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment are willing to provide $8-10M, and the rest might have to come out of taxes

if there were an MLS team in Toronto though, it'd be here by 2007, and with a salary cap of about $1.8M (or so I hear that's the cap for the MLS), ticket prices would be nice and affordable and I'd be there constantly (H)

Help?

My hometown!

That'll be amazing, about friggin' time. I used to live like 10 mins away from thier current stadium (many years ago), which isn't really that bad but they definately needed upgrading. BTW, that "historic Gastown" they mention in that article is actually a heroine-addict infested dump these days, but it's all good..

Toronto is focussed on landing an NFL franchise....and by the way, there was big news about the MLS in Toronto this week....Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment have until the end of October to table an offer for a franchise so there IS a chance of landing a soccer stadium.

I doubt the NFL will expand into Canada. The league is big enough as it is and I think the next relocation/expansion, if it ever occurs, is supposed to be in Los Angeles.

I really hope we can get the stadium. Only half an hour away from where the stadium is proposed to be built, I would be attending many games

Brian is right, the Governator is lobbying really hard for a NFL expansion team in LA.

hopefully the stadium comes about, and canada can start competing with their neighbours to the south.

yeah everything ive read recently all points towards that (obviously i dont live in the US but try to read alot!) from what i can gather the Canada are seemingly doing OK on their own, and if you think that Oakland is the nearest thing to LA then its surely only a matter of time before a franchise lands back there.
