View Full Version : Well Sh_t?! IGN scored it an 8.4 !!!!!!!!! Tomba 19-04-2006, 01:48:PM Very very cool review on top of that famitsu gave it a 31/40 not bad at all. 360 version tho ausbarca 19-04-2006, 02:19:PM sumtin aint right, lyk i hope ea have made a good game, i have played nthe demo, mixed emotions, but in the past critics have been known to go easy on ea RobbieD_PL 19-04-2006, 03:04:PM yeh im surprised they got so annoyed over the absence of a manager mode... :o , Isn't taking your country to World Cup glory enough? Rport03 19-04-2006, 03:57:PM Thats why I dont usually take review scores into consideration because like the manager mode for example, true they could of added it in for a international campaign but the whole point of the game is The World Cup Tournament. I mean this isnt a FIFA 06, 07, 08 etc.. game so I for one wouldnt expect to see it. ive seen many games get bad scores but yet end up being some awesome game. oh well. donovanfan3456 19-04-2006, 05:49:PM do you have a link? nickclubman 19-04-2006, 05:49:PM i think that is a fair review for the basis of what they reviewed the game on. It is a fun game to play and there is a realistic feel to it and I enjoy the speed of the game. I'm playin the demo on semi-pro so i am killing the cpu, but it is still an improvement. NK. AlienSeafood 19-04-2006, 05:59:PM is the gameplay more like WE/PES? according to ign it is... Nuno 19-04-2006, 08:28:PM The impression I got from IGN is that it mimicks the WE control scheme a bit more, but WE still has more moves. I hope they have a demo of it on the Xbox live marketplace. I'd like to try it before I buy it. ausbarca 20-04-2006, 03:03:AM from what i saw from the demo the gameplay has changed only slightly but it is better than 06 Iggy 20-04-2006, 02:36:PM Jesus Christ... 2006 FIFA World Cup is a delightful celebration of the Super Bowl of soccer valioso 20-04-2006, 02:52:PM Jesus Christ... 2006 FIFA World Cup is a delightful celebration of the Super Bowl of soccer is an american site :boohoo: QPRBrad 20-04-2006, 05:22:PM Jesus Christ... 2006 FIFA World Cup is a delightful celebration of the Super Bowl of soccerI noticed that too. I hate American review of footy games. :( Keegan 20-04-2006, 08:03:PM Comparing the World Cup to the Super Bowl is almost blasphemy... (sigh) Iggy 20-04-2006, 08:04:PM is an american site :boohoo: Well allright, but how the hell can you compare World Cup with superbowl? Compare it with Champions League? Allright, it can pass. But for fuc.k sake, it's god damn World Cup. But, then again, they have world series of baseball, and I can't see any non-american club in it. Broodrooster 20-04-2006, 11:55:PM I can't beleive IGN thinks that WC 2006 is getting more near PES/WE if you look at the gameplay. Yes,.. there is a small improvement if you would compare it with Fifa 2006, but honestly it get's nowhere near the PES Gameplay (I'm not a fanboy,.. I like the Fifa presentation a lot better, but let's be honest)... Fifa will allways be the game for people who love to watch soccer PES will allways be the game for people who love to play soccer RobbieD_PL 21-04-2006, 02:50:AM WC 2006 9.0 Presentation Every national anthem, facts about each country, every World Cup stadium -- EA nailed the international spectacle that is the World Cup. 7.0 Graphics The cutscenes and replays look terrific, as do player animations, but regular gameplay is only decent, visually. That's videogame soccer for you. 8.0 Sound Excellent work in the audio booth and with a responsive, riotous crowd. We're not sure which country will appreciate the song list, but it's probably not this one. 8.5 Gameplay Yes it's a good imitation of Winning Eleven, but FIFA does manage to innovate with star players, shooting and PKs. Imitator or not, this is a fun soccer game to play. 6.0 Lasting Appeal World Cup games are traditionally shallow and, while this is the deepest World Cup game yet, there should be more bang for your buck with some kind of manager mode. 8.4 Impressive OVERALL WC 2002 8.9 Presentation Top notch - All the trimmings one would expect of a global sporting event are here. The action replays rock. The menus are clear and simple - but perhaps ready for a facelift. 9.1 Graphics Gorgeous. The faces, the animations, the stadiums - Simply wonderful. 9.2 Sound Very impressive. Commentary is good and not as repetitive as previous versions. The roar of the crowd as you score your fourth goal against Germany to will the tournament send shivers down the spine. 9.3 Gameplay The bugs of the last version are gone and the game profits immensely because of it. Nice solid earning curve and world class head to head action. 9.1 Lasting Appeal Play through with every team, explore the different formations, play multiplayer - this will last longer than the actual real life tournament. 9.3 Outstanding OVERALL 4 years later & a decrease in rating of .9, almost a whole rating integer... My rating 4 FWC just from the demo: Presentation 9.6 Every national anthem, facts about each country, every World Cup stadium -- EA nailed the international spectacle that is the World Cup. Qualifying regions included as well. It's not just RTWC its the WC! What we always wanted ever since FIFA RTWC 98! Graphics 8.7 The cutscenes really capture the pagentry of the WC (even with my Radeon 9200). The player animations/skill moves look great as well. Most faces are again great, but not all, (even in the demo) a small downside. H/E i hope that there wont be any night time glare, b/c if there is i'll leave it as it is. Having Dusk Day & Night vesions of stads are fantastic. Sound 8.7 Excellent work in the audio booth and with a responsive, riotous & multilingual crowd. Natinal anthems and as we seen in videos the WC hymn add epic touchs to the games of the finals. Commentary is well done, but shucks, I would have prefered Martin Tyler... :( Gameplay 7.9 The new shooting system of FIFA WC is the only new +, as far as gameplay goes. The freestyle moves are great but still from FIFA 06, so they're nothing new. Shots more logical, unlike the WE imitation freekick & corner system. Maybe I'm wrong but i havent heard any positive help otherwise. Lasting appeal 9.6 If WC 2002 had a lot of things to do, multiply that by 100 for WC 2006. With not only the World Cup to vye for (with every team ;) ), The Global Challenge mode really extends this game out for some time to come. And the Achievements are worth it too. Not only can you win the World Cup, you can beat every other team in the game while you're at it. All these allow for the purchase of unlockabales to gameplay, classic players & balls, and all sure to improve your FIFA WC 2006 experience. ronaldo9 21-04-2006, 03:00:AM Fifa will allways be the game for people who love to watch soccer PES will allways be the game for people who love to play soccer -------------------------------------------------------------------- culden't say it better my self when u play pes is like if u on the pitch your self, as u can do almost everything u want. playing fifa is like watching football becouse of the licanse, crowd atmosfer, and comentators are spot. i wuld give the demo a try in my xbox360, hope is good, but don't thing i will buy it, as i will wait for fifa 2007 for xbox 360, that where i thing fifa will have true generation gameplay with new engine, well hope so. also can't wait to see pes how it will look like in ps3. Limberopoulos21 22-04-2006, 02:51:AM I've played both, neither game is anything special. I'll be honest and I'm not biased towards either game. Everyone says pes has better gameplay, but other than that it has nothing, like 3 year olds designed the rest of the game. To say the truth neither game has good gameplay, I find both games to be boring after just a bit, but i don't expect better they're just video games. pes lacks big time in every other componenets, when you play it feels like your playing just another video game, while fifa feels more real, more authentic, sure gameplay isn't as good, but pes beats it by very little. Overall both games have their drawbacks and I wouldn't put one over the other. Either way go to the proper forum and praise pes more there. valioso 22-04-2006, 07:09:PM I've played both, neither game is anything special. I'll be honest and I'm not biased towards either game. Great post man, I agree with you 100%. nickclubman 23-04-2006, 01:05:AM Great post man, I agree with you 100%. Hey man. Yeah the deal with FIFA vs. PES is obvious factors, but neither really makes a massive difference. PES isn't made by God, it's just a video game and it's not THAT good! Sure FIFA's gameplay isn't up to par with that of PES, but then again there's not some massive gigantic gap between the two, there is obviously a noticeable difference in difficulty and the rewarding feel you get from scoring a goal (that of which PES is more rewarding to play I think), but I wouldn't go cut my dick in half so I could stick it through Konami's CD. I think the true fans for either game will obviously shout out what they think and have a go at each other because they have their own opinions... Like me for example...all that I just typed was an opinion. I'm not some stubborn gamer who points to what I'm saying and says 'listen to me, I'm always correct, anything you say that is not agreeing with my football game preference, obviously leads to your lack of football knowledge and enjoyment of the sport!’ I think people forget what 'video game' is all about. If you enjoy it, play it..if you don't...DON'T PLAY IT! Peeps should stop arguing which game is better. I went through that stage when I was 16 and it got me no where on here. Now where’s my girlfriend :hump: I need attention after all this typing. NK. CopeCOwBoy 23-04-2006, 01:22:AM Well allright, but how the hell can you compare World Cup with superbowl? The only competition in the world that has the attention and importance of the World Cup, is the Olympics. This game really promises a lot, taking your team to qualify the World cup step by step, is something that just regular PES and FIFA games can't give you. I know a lot of friends that are PES-fans; but had played and liked FIFA 98 RTWC and Korea-Japan 2002 . Just because all that enviroment and realism of the game's scenario and pomp. Emotive celebrations, full-stadiums of people holding flags and confetti, what a rush :rockman: That's a big reason that even could make you forget that this game has an inferior gameplay to PES, if you like football and if you are a true passionate of your NT .. definately you'll play this game :jap: DenniZ 25-04-2006, 10:21:AM Fifa will allways be the game for people who love to watch soccer PES will allways be the game for people who love to play soccer Sooooo true. thisempty 25-04-2006, 03:48:PM ign is full of crap. they're americans, they shouldnt be allowed to review a football game, lol (soccer for them). ok, sorry for some americans who love and understand soccer, but come on, fifa world cup is still very beyond pes5 gameplay wise. i have an open mind, i always try the latest fifa, i wished it was better than pes, cause it has all the teams, players, atmosphere, menus, sound, etc people can wish for. And in pes you have to patch the game. and that kind of annoys me, cause with xbox360 i get this feeling that i'll be playing pes6 and wont be able to patch it and make it perfect like in pc. So, in THAT aspect fifa kicks some serious ass. but i played the demo of fifa world cup for 3, 4 days.... and it was cool. i imagined the game on xbox360 and i couldnt wait to buy it. gameplay was ok, very sattisfying. the shotting is alot better, etc. except for through pass. every through pass would put my sriker face to face with the goalkeeper, i couldnt stop scoring the same goal every time. but i guess (wish) thats just cause of the difficulty level of the demo. but after those 3, 4 days i kept playing fifa i went back to try a pes5 match... and OMG, it felt like a all new game. its like it was the first time i played pes, it is so so so much better than fifa... just when i went to play that match of pes i realized how fifa was not that ok as i was thinking and feeling it was. playing pes again, made me realise how bad the ball feels in fifa. it feels like a baloon, like it has no heaviness. in pes you "feel" the ball. and theres just so many thinghs that fifa still lacks compared to pes. i know pes has its faults, but spending 3, 4 days in the fifa demo and going back to pes seemed like pes was perfect. i say all this with no joy, cause i wanted to buy fifa world cup for the xbox360, but i just wont now. i'll wait for pes6, which is going to take a longgg while... im sad, cause i'll miss all the greatness of fifa (graphics, atmosphere, licenses, sound, etc),but i just wont spend 70 euros knowing that i prefer to play my patched pes5 on pc. starhannes 25-04-2006, 04:02:PM love and understand soccer :kader: first talking about it then using it urself :P anyways its deff better than 2002! god i hated that game! gameplay was absolute ****e! CopeCOwBoy 25-04-2006, 04:55:PM The only realistic part was when he was talking about how barley anyone cares about it here. thisempty 26-04-2006, 02:12:AM :kader: first talking about it then using it urself :P anyways its deff better than 2002! god i hated that game! gameplay was absolute ****e! well, i was refering to the americans, and thats how they call it... thats why i used it senden 26-04-2006, 02:21:AM The reviewer is clearly either a clueless American or drunk/stoned... I would have given the game based on the demo a 5. The gameplay itself, was half decent but releasing a game at full price which is basically a stripped down version of fifa 2006 and a flashier version of a cup game mode, shows nothing but the fact that EA have absolutely no respect for football fans nor fifa fans. There is absolutely nothing to justify the full price tag in this game and for that, it really makes me angry, now if the game had a price tag of say £20, then it would probably be worth it. Not to worry though, after the world cup, this game will be in the bargain bins for a tenner. portofan61 26-04-2006, 04:57:AM I bought it for the xbox 360. Is it fun? Kind of. Graphics are pretty sweet (except for the crowd, I think the crowds suck! Especially for a next gen game...crowds in FIFA RTFWC were much better), and there's no slowdown like there was before...good framerate. It always comes back to the gameplay. Maybe I've been playing way too much WE9 since it became compatible for the 360 (I don't want to start the battle, I'm not a fanboy), but the ball physics suck. And this whole new predetermined shot power? Crappy. There's no way that no one on the Portugal team can't rip one into the back of the net. The only way I can score is from crosses or the stupid Strip-the-ball-off-the-crappy-defender and pass it right by the goalie's legs....boring. Maybe I haven't played it enough, I don't know. I do have some sense of enjoyment, mainly from the presentation side of things, but I dont get the excitement, or anywhere near the "randomness" of goals in WE/PES...goals still feel generic. I don't understand how EA can toot their horn about a 10 million dollar motion capture studio but can't match the ball physics or attention to detail in gameplay that WE/PES offers. If you invest in those kind of resources, do something with it! Keep in mind, I WANT EA TO GIVE US AN EXCELLENT game. I'm not an advocate for Konami. PES has plenty of faults too, but fortunately for Konami, not really on the gameplay side of things. If EA really concentrate on their gameplay for Fifa 07, no doubt it will be spectacular. But as it goes so far, it's mediocre. I don't know why the IGN reviewers thought this game was so much better than FIFA RTFWC, except for maybe on the framerate side of things, as well as more challenges. Keeping my fingers crossed for future versions.... ::shinji:: 26-04-2006, 11:24:AM are the games at least challenging? I haven't played a FIFA game since 2001, always was a WE/PES fan, but recently I was very dissapointed with WE9 because of the fact that the computer NEVER scores! I'm getting tired of the lack of offence so I'm looking to try something new. Just wondering if WC2006 at least offers some competition? DenniZ 26-04-2006, 11:46:AM are the games at least challenging? I'm no EA fan, that's for sure, but I have to admit this is a fun game to play despite it's few flaws here and there. I'm glad I got it. |
