I havn't played it but check out a game called Libero Grande. I'm not sure who the developers are but it sounds like the sort of game you're after.

I find that a good idea,
but it should be made so that you start of
as a player in a B league and work your way
up to the national team,big club,big PAYCHECK!.

I used to play like that with a mate in Actua Soccer....you could make space and split the defense etc..

Shouldn't be too hard to implement aswell. The only problem was if you played upfront you had to rely on a solid defense.
