Venue: FIFA World Cup Stadium (Westfalenstadion), Dortmund

Wednesday, 9 pm CET

Group standings:

Germany 3 +2
Ecuador 3 +2
Costa Rica 0 -2
Poland 0 -2

What the coaches say:

Jürgen Klinsmann: We know that it will be a very tough match. Poland will be doing their utmost to remain in the tournament. It’s the last chance saloon for them and this means that it’ll be one heck of a match. We will have to come out playing positive and aggressive football.

Pawel Janas: The points we failed to pick up against Ecuador will have to be made up for against Germany. We need at least a draw, otherwise we’ll be on the plane home.

Confirmed German lineup:

------------------- Lehmann ------------

Friedrich -- Mertesacker -- Metzelder -- Lahm

------------- Frings ------- Ballack --------------

Schneider ------------------------------Schweinsteiger

--------------------------------- Podolski ----------
------------ Klose ----------------------------

It's definitely going to be a special game for Klose and Podolski to play against their country of birth. So far the two teams have faced each other 14 times: 10 German victories, 4 draws.

Why is Dudek not the GK of the Polish team? I guess he didn't agree with the NT coach?

I have a gut feeling that Germany will win this 1-0 goal by Podolski.

Klinsmann should have let Borowski as the starter, ahead of Ballack... Borowski played very well... I hope Germany keep showing some good football, and if so... i hope they do win! :)

I have a gut feeling that Germany will win this 1-0 goal by Podolski.
Dudek hasn't been playing in Liverpool for a very long time so the answer was obvious - he couldn't play in WC if he wasn't playing in a club. Another top player, Frankowski who was a goal machine in WCQ, had a terrible season with no goal at all so again - he's out
plus they both are very old and could have had too much influence on other young players, what was the main reason of a disgrace during the last WC - new coach wanted to change smth then (what doesn't change a fact his decisions are mostly just absurdic)

both Boruc and Kuszczak have had a very good season so there they go, the third one is a rookie to get some experience

Same story was with Romario in last WC, loved by many, superstriker in Qualifications but finally was out of the WC and Brazil won it later on
I wish same story could have been said about current Polish team :drevil:
but hey, it's good to have dreams, Ger - Pol: 1-2 (6)

After the poor perfomance of Poland against Ecuador, i don't think Germany should have too many troubles here, but i don't think there will be many goals anyway, i say a 2-0 will do.:jambo:

You see, now doesn't that just prove that "Germans" cant play up front :jambo:

"German striker will play for Poland"

Our opponent have trouble! German players are supporting for Poland. They prefer to wear Polish kits.
Łukasz Podolski and Mirosław Klose are playing for German National Team, but they won't do our wrong. On our side is Michał Delura (German U-23 NT): "I will sing <<Polska! Biało-czerwoni>>" blah, blah, blah etc etc

Germany is wasting too many good chances. Poland is doing alright for now, but they should be down 2-0 or so by now, if Podolski/Klose put their chances away. The atmosphere is great, and so is the intensity. Makes for a really good game. Hopefully second half is just as good.

Yeah I was impressed by Odonkor too, but you could kind of tell that he didn't have world class skill. His energy and speed off the bench were what turned the game around, and that final cross was perfect, but you could tell that he just wasn't quite in that top class of players in terms of skill; there's a reason why he comes off the bench is what I'm saying.

Odonkor was the super sub that woke the Germans up, for a while there it looked like they would be satisfied with a draw, but he came on and started running up and down that right wing and feeding energy to the crowd and his teammates. Great sub by Klinsmann (Neuville as well).

Deserved win for Germany (Y)

I know Poland played theirs butts off but when it comes down to it Buruk saved their asses from a 3 or 4-0 beating. Poland showed me absolutely nothing in both games they played.

Have you been laying down money on this tournament, Crazy Ivan?

Yeah I was impressed by Odonkor too, but you could kind of tell that he didn't have world class skill. His energy and speed off the bench were what turned the game around, and that final cross was perfect, but you could tell that he just wasn't quite in that top class of players in terms of skill; there's a reason why he comes off the bench is what I'm saying.
I agree.
This was the first time I saw him play and the way he got into the match showed he has loads of will and commitment, and really wanted to make an impact in the game.....
sudden sprints, spontaneous crossing, but there were moments in which he showed his lack of experience by losing the ball kind of childishly.

still, being only 22 I can see his game improving if he's given the chance to compete at a high level more often.
unfortunately Dortmund are kind of an average team these days....

and Vince is right, Friedrich is too freakin poor (N)

Breathtaking stuff in the 2nd half. All those saves by the Polish keeper, then the 2 balls hitting the bar, and i was laughing my arse off at Germany's fate. But Neuville came to rescue with a nice goal, and the atmosphere on Westfalenstadion is something out of this World.

Score should have been 3-0/4-0, but the polish where very lucky on this night but they also played well. All in all= Camon germany!!!

Is something lost in translation here or is that a boast?

Hooligans fight with anybody. They don't need a reason.

Dont look too deeply into it Da Kid. Due to a hooligans very small brain, they couldn't tell you why they do what they do, even if you asked them. They are retarded sub-humans who do not know better.

wonderful atmosphere in Dortmund, really shows the beauty of the sport. the game was also awesome to watch and the final score was definitely just.

Personally, I think your LB Lamb is freagin amazing down the flank. My first 2 games watching him and he really amazes me. Great ball handling ability, nice shot, accurate long and short balls, very good decision making and a hell of a cross.

Unfortunately for the Germans, while the defense looked better today (Not really challenged today) at the end I can't see them getting by a solid team. I don't see them getting past the quarters, perhaps even the second round. There defense will be their doom.

Poland in attack was very poor. Germany had too many 100% occasions (Klose, Podolski, Klose once again etc.), Polish defenders in these situations played bad. However, they were fight in this match and this is positive point of this match for Poles.

Tell me the reason Friedrich is starting. Schneider HAS to start at RB, there should be no doubts about that after tonight's game.

Yes I agree. Schneider is a fantastic player, but we don't really lose all that much if he plays defense instead of attack. In defense he is a huge upgrade over Friedrich though and someone else like Odonkor or maybe we could pinch the midfielders in a little bit and have them play a little total football and switch up positions. Like have Kehl play holding midfielder and let Ballack, Frings, and Schweinsteiger roam. Or have Frings play holding midfielder and let Ballack, Schweinsteiger, and Borowski roam.

I didn't realize how young Odonkor is, I thought he was 27 or so.

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..............
and my dream isssssssss...over.

my opinion is the Poles played the awful, terrible, "can't" football and should commit seppuku, or at least pack their luggages and go out the tournament with those last bits of honour they have

only Boruc played the top notch, awesome saves was keeping us for a long time hoping they may score as well and it'll finish 0-1 but no...

Another player worth mentioning must be Jelen, for trying, in opposition to Zurawski who played like a rookie, he showed absolutely nothing except of bunch of irrationall misses and unability to move forward as the striker should do, oh yeah hold on a sec, there was one crappy shot right in the middle of goalkeeper...He probably cannot play on his own in 4-5-1 and without assistance he doesn't exist - should be changed after the first half

Janas literally pissed me off waiting for subs to the end of the match,,WTF was he thinking?? They went off to play for a draw and not make it or brake it, ffs...Sobolewski had a yellow and few warnings, would be nice to switch him earlier wouldn't be?

I barely understand ppl calling this match as the best of the WC so far, they played just craptastic with some good saves and a bit of drama in the end

this is the attitiude they should demonstrate in Ecuador-Poland game before, was expecting way more for a last chance match with Germany, while I've seen no attack at all, except few moments improving our statistics

Kudos to Deutschland, the better won.

We played for the draw with a defensive tactic against one of the most goal-huntting happy teams of the tournament (H). We should have at least been more offensive, as we had the most to gain from a goal (no else is Greece, but Greece, and they didnt even make it to this WC). Again I hate Janas, what a f*cktard. But congrats to the boys, you played with your hearts on your sleeves for the whole 90 mins :jap:.
What a way to win it tho for Germany! In any case, we will still have Klose, Podolski and Borowski to support lest they make it to the final. Vorwaerts Deutschland :)
And then there's always Australia :alex: (H)

We still have a minute chance of going thru tho: CRC beats ECU tonite and we beat CRC by a 4 goal margin (6) :jambo: :boohoo:

And thankfully it wasnt one of our own who stabbed us in the back, it was a Swiss lad (H).
